Filthy! I booked this hotel for a week. July 19-26. It was a get away vacation for my daughter, 2 year old grandson and my self. Check in was quick and easy. The lobby was dated and smelled strange. We had reserved a ocean view room overlooking the pool. The hallway smelled of smoke, sweat and mildew. We had a corner room. It was extremely dated. The pool was nasty. All kinds of things in the bottom and floating on top of the water. There were Gnats everywhere. We ordered lunch from the tikki bar. It was decent, but you could not eat poolside because of the gnats. The bartender said that it was a problem all over St. Augustine Beach. (Not true). When we got into the room later, it had not been cleaned. The bath room is tiny and full of stains. Wear flip flops to shower and do not let your children SIT is the tub, shower them off. I was horrified. The air conditioner was extremely loud. I had booked a room with queen beds, these were only full size. One bed had a duvet, the other only had a sheet. The next day, I had to chase down some towels. I had stripped the beds and put all the bed linens in the floor so the housekeeper would put clean sheets on the bed. As I was taking the duvet cover off the bed, I noticed some red spots on the duvet. They had not been visible because they were facing the mattress near the foot of the bed. I don't know if it was blood or not. I probably don't want to know. The housekeeper had been by late in the afternoon. When my daughter answered the door, the housekeeper told her she was there to lean the room. (This was late in the day) My daughter explained that I was in the shower, we were going to eat and could she come back in 30 minutes. The housekeeper very rudely told my daughter "No, it is time for me to go home and I am leaving. " She tossed some towels to my daughter and left. The trash had not been removed for 2 days. As we were leaving to go to dinner, there she was hanging out with other staff members who were all talking and smoking. I had spent the day on my phone trying to locate another hotel with availability. I was luckily able to find one right down the road from this nasty dump. When we got back from dinner, we packed our belongings and I went to the lobby. I explained to the general mgr. On duty why I was checking out several days early. I also showed him pictures I had taken on my phone of all the issues in the room. A picture is worth a thousand words! He did apologize and credit my Visa for one night. I really should have requested a full refund due to the time and trouble I spent finding another hotel and then packing up a weeks worth of luggage. At this point, I just wanted out of there. My grandson has started breaking out in a rash, so we also had to get him Benadryl… the rash could have been from the filthy room, the nasty pool or the swarming gnats. This place needs to be reported to the health dept. While I was speaking with the mgr, the housekeeper walked by (4 hours after she told my daughter she was going home. I do not plan my day around the housekeepers schedule, she should do her job in the early part of the day while the guests are out at the beach. Perhaps not smoking and chatting with other employees) The website pictures are extremely deceiving! FYI: there were no gnats at the hotel we ended up at! This hotel does not have low standards, it had NO standards.
