Outstanding staff, very well maintained exterior, and ideal location. Unexpected bonus with afternoon drink service. Facility is older than it looks, and the interior shows it in places. I suppose that the indoor pool is a blessing in the winter, but I tend to find such pools unpleasant and wish this one weren't there — though I did not notice it in my room. I have stayed here before and likely will again.

Very disappointed because after a 48h stay I had put a rather favorable comment on this hotel on the central reservation, but it was not to mention the unpleasant surprise that awaited us to know a debit of 300 dollars on our payment card! What was supposed to be a mistake with a refund within 48 hours is turned into an outright refusal of refund due to degradations in the room! Which was totally untrue. We are currently in dispute through the reservation centre. This is absolutely unbearable and unfair because we are not even sure we will be reimbursed!
And in that case it would be expensive at night!

Room was clean and neat, staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed out stay. The only thing we did not like was the traffic getting to the hotel. We did enjoy our stay.

Older hotel/motel with very nice, slightly dated furnishings. The rooms were large and very clean. The pool area was nice and quiet for being close to the rooms. Parking and location were good. I would recommend for a very nice place on a budget.

We really enjoyed our stay at the BW Rio Grande Inn. It is located at the end of the main strip and was perfect for walking to all the shops and places to eat. It was quiet and clean. We loved having an indoor pool and the breakfast every morning was really good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Better than the 4 star hotel I stayed in a few months ago. The free continental breakfast is good. The bed is comfortable. Free happy hr. Indoor pool. Walking distance to everything, including the train. Nothing to complain about.

Good location in Durango. Walk to downtown. Great staff, attractive, professional and attentive. I am a BW fan, from their business model to their convenient locations to their diligence and consistent attention to details, and value. This location is a great example!

The staff is the best and friendly. We had an issue with the room and my husband brought the matter to the attention of maintenance. It was taken care of while we were out of the room. The hotel is convenient to town and the parking is free. Both are big considerations while staying in Durango. The breakfast staff were very friendly too and arrived early and start husseling to get everything just right for guest. I would say the overall hotel room needed a little more attention to cleanliness. The hotel is large and it’s a favorite with groups. We will return.

Our room was clean. We stayed in a Standard 2 Queen Bed room. A little small for family of 4. No private area for dressing. Our room was quiet, didnt hear our neighbors. Limited parking close to your room. All employees/staff very polite and helpful. Great Location for going downtown to enjoy shops and restaurants. Within walking distance. The pool has early hours for operation, closes by 9 pm. Couldn't use the pool with our evening schedule. Wish it was opened longer. A bit confusing to get to at first, but then easier once you learned the streets. Breakfast good. Food fresh and hot. Moderate selection available. Food hostess kept dining area clean and food replenished. I'd recommend this hotel.

Usual holiday inn Express, but very good service. Let our soccer team there for a tournament have a pizza party and take over the pool one evening. I lost my hat there, but they found it and sent it immediately. Will stay there again.

The room was very clean and the service was friendly. The best part was how close it was to downtown Durango. We were able to walk anywhere in town right from our hotel.

Is within walking distance to the historic downtown area and just around the corner to the Steam Engine Teain Station.
The staff were exceptional and pool area was well maintained.

Every thing here was amazing. Only thing that was off was that there were buggers on the shower wall as well as an abundance of hair. I have no other complaints. Everything else was amazing, pleasing to the eye, accessable, and accommodating.

Room keys didn't work at check in or any other time we tried to enter the room, so we had to keep going to the front desk. The room was a lot smaller than we were lead to believe. The room itself was outdate, the white appliances were turning yellow from age. The room door had a gap big enough that you see outside. The bathroom is small and you hit the shower when using the toilet. There was hair on the bathroom floor. The ac/heater was broke. To get to the pool you had to walk a far way outside and around the building. The complimentary mangers thing is free cocktails. Not really a "free and good" thing if your pregnant, so not worth it.

Amazing staff! Beautiful pool! Comfortable beds! Yummy full hot breakfast! Walking distant to the train, downtown shops, lots of restaurant options. Stay here 2 and both times blew us away. We took our family of 9 and had a great time. My husband and I had a get away here, very romantic for 2. You will not be disappointed. Planning our next time…

Beautiful place. Management was awesome. We were only going to stay for one night but management gave us one more night for free because our jetted tub was not working. Definitely going to stay here again.

Hotel was great during our stay. It seemed as though there had been recent renovation to our room. Free breakfast now includes some dairy free options that haven't always been available. Staff are courteous and friendly.

Room was clean and spacious. Bedding was fresh. Premium cable channels. Complimentary breakfast everyday was great! Eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, oatmeal, waffles, bagels, toast, muffins, fruit, juice and coffee. Delicious. Two free cocktails per night, per person. Will stay again.

Staff tries hard but this place falls just short of anything great. Here's the deal — they give you drink tickets when you check in, great! But then the bar is only open from 5:30-7:30, so you have to set an alarm and make sure you don't miss it. But really, 3 stars because they have a nice pool in the center of the place that is surrounded by the coldest air possible. They need to heat the common area BAD!

If going off of rooms alone, this place would get a 4-5 star rating. The rooms are very comfortable, have nice amenities like fridge and microwave, and stayed warm with ease. Add in the good breakfast and nice staff, this place is mostly great. What made me give it a 3 star was 2 main design choices that took away from privacy and comfort. First, all rooms with an indoor entrance have double doors with large glass panes. On the inside of the room, there are drapes, but they were flimsy at best and made it easy for people to see in the rooms. Second, all indoor rooms face the pool. Even though the pool is listed as open till 9pm, the pool didn't clear out till 9:30pm. Add in the fact that as people strolled in later in the evening, they used the pool area and elevator right next to it as an extension of the lobby and would talk loudly as they came and went. It took well close to midnight before it got consistently quiet. I guess I could have called and complained, but I would have been calling every 5-10 minutes as other guests showed up. Overall, these 2 annoyances have me reconsidering staying at this otherwise nice hotel.

Very clean, family friendly hotel. Employees were super helpful. The family loved the heated pool. T he whirl pool in the king suite was as well. Breakfast was perfect for the family. It was within walking distance to so many things.

I love staying in this hotel every year on Christmas vacation with my whole family. Never had any problems here. Affordable, close to everything. Good Wi-Fi, free drinks, free breakfast and the pool is nice too. The rooms around the pool can be subject to noise from people and kids swimming but they have rooms available that aren't next to the pool. There are also signs up politely reminding guests at the pool to be respectful and keep the volume down.

The hotel is always fun to stay at. It is close to everything in downtown Durango. My kids have a blast playing in he pool and it’s convenient proximity to the bar is nice for the parents. The bartender is very rude though. She does not seem to enjoy her job. It can also be very noisy at this hotel.

Absolutely loved this place! Came with the family for the polar express. BEST location, hands down. You can walk anywhere. Free breakfast and free drinks at night. Only thing is, there are a lot of kids here… so extra noise at night and basically all the time. Don't recommend if you're single.

Our stay was very pleasant. The facility, while older, looked to be in good condition. We stayed in room 126, it had a wirlpool tub and our room was adjacent to the indoor swimming pool. The breakfast buffet was a typical breakfast buffet for a hotel, but was good. The price for the room was a little high, but the surrounding hotels had a similar price. Bottom line, it was a nice room for the night.

Very nice place to stay. Indoor pool and hot tub. Good breakfast selection. Great service in breakfast room. Good maintenance staff. 2 full bar drinks in evening with really nice people serving. In same room as breakfast. You could also enjoy your drinks by indoor pool which was right next to room. We extended our stay from 2 to 4 nights as great area to venture out to for Mesa Verde, Silverton, and other ruins. Right by old town and train for Silverton. A very comfortable and easy place to call home for 4 days.

Great place to stay. Walking distance to the train and lots of good places to eat. The breakfast was delicious. The staff was friendly. I would stay here whenever I was in durango. I highly recommend it.

The room was clean and comfy. Breakfast was good! Enjoyed the pool, plenty of towels. The drain was slow in shower and backed up but otherwise we had a nice stay. Parking can be difficult with larger vehicles. Location is always a plus.

Great Hotel. If you are staying in Durango, Colorado then stay at the Best Western Rio. It is right off of the downtown area. The historic train and all downtown shops and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Get a balcony room if any are available. Great pool and Jacuzzi. Breakfast was good. All staff were excellent. Price was fair. The Best Western Rio is in a great location only a walk away from downtown and the train and it is clean and very nice.

Just a note to let you know that our stay was horrible. The "security" door is broken and the last night! Right now… 07/19/2017, it's 9:47pm the room is so hot! The AC DOES NOT WORK! The only thing the front desk said was… oh we thought it was fixed! If we didn't have family staying in another room (which by the way, has no problems) we would have been on our way home! It's going to be a loooong night!

This is probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at in 10 years of traveling. Great location, clean, and very friendly staff. The complimentary cocktails each evening was nice. The staff for the breakfast was exceptional and the food super. They kept everything filled and tables clean. The free laundry facilities was a nice touch also.

The restaraunt ROUNDS UP to the nearest dollar — in my case this was 76 cents! BEWARE!

Overpriced, filthy and claustrophobic rooms. The towels in our bathroom were dirty! Hair in the shower as well. Very disappointing since we paid $200 for the night. Pool was fun for kids but that was it.

Love the 2 free drinks per nightly stay. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Over all nicer than your average hotel.

The service was good. But the rooms are to expensive for the size. Then if you have the bed that's right next to the AC. You are not going to have a great sleep. The AC keeps turning on and off and it blows right at your face. The beds feel old and lumpy. The only thing I liked is the location. Everything is about 30 minutes from it.

Great place for a weekend stay. Loved being able to walk to all the restaurants and shopping from the hotel.

The amenities were OK. Carpet was a little old, but bed was comfortable, shower worked well all for an affordable price. Breakfast was passable and the coffee was horrible. Get coffee in town. The best part was that the hotel is located 5 minutes walking from the Durango and Silverton Railroad Station.

Always a nice place to stay. Rooms are very clean and lots of space. Indoor pool and jacuzzi are very nice. Plus they offer free drinks with your stay. Within walking distance to dinning and night life. I would highly recommend.

Nice hotel with pool and hot tub. Kinda sucks that all their stairs are outside even when you want to go swim. Other than that the rooms, service, and breakfast is pretty good.

The service was great. We got an outside facing room with no door seal (it was cold), and they switched our rooms right away. The pool, however, was noisy. The rooms were nicely decorated.

This was my first experience at this facility. I loved it. Upon checking in, I was told that the reservation that I had made 6 months earlier (through an online booking affiliate), wasn't in there. Rick, the office manager, was so pleasant and helpful. He said they had rooms and that he could not only get me a room for the night, but for the same price. This was a huge relief, since we were to catch our train to the Polar Express in just about an hour or so. They have a great little lounge, with a happy hour and you get two free drinks per adult. However, the lounge is little, and fills up quickly. The rooms were nice, and clean. Super close to all the downtown stores and places to eat (try T's, it was delish). And one other plus, a very kid friendly place! All in all, when we do travel again, we will be returning.

The people at the front desk are fantastic! There's a younger skinny guy who seems to work the latter shifts. He always seems to be there when I check in, he is the best! Smart, quick and helpful. Is recommend this hotel to anybody! Plus, you are walking distance to everything in town.

Great location, staff was friendly. Only complaint I had was they advertise they have shuttle service to the airport. They do but it was not "available" the day and time I needed a ride. I had even called about this service before I left to go out there. They did give me a business card for a local taxi service though. I was all kinds of mad about this at the time because it was one of the reasons for booking with them. Anyhow, the hotel and staff were very nice. I would stay there again. But plan on the extra money for the taxi.

I stayed at the Best Western Plus Rio Grande in conjunction with the Durango & Silverton Winter Photographer's Special on 15 Feb 2015. The staff and stay were amazing in all respects. The manager called me at home before my trip had begun, stating that she thought she had a better room than the one I had reserved (I requested a room with a view of the D&S roundhouse and rail yard). Ginny, in charge of the Manager's Reception was exceptional. Her friendly disposition and customer service attitude were great; she even remembered my name on the second night of my stay! The entire staff conducted themselves with customer service as a priority. It was evident in every way. The facilities are great and the location even better. You can park your vehicle and walk to all of the main attractions in downtown Durango. I look forward to returning to Durango in the future and there is no other place that I will stay!

My family has been coming to this hotel for over a decade every year in all four seasons. We always have a fantastic service, great cocktail hour, and a friendly helpful staff. Extremely family friendly. They feature adjoining hotel rooms which is great for the teenagers who still need to be reminded that snow clothes do not dry on the floor. Walking distance to the main part of town and great food and of course the DSRNG a must ride for everyone.

Nice place to stay while your boozing it up after a long days ride. The staff are polite and congenial. Even gave us a HOG discount because we were all on Harley's. The counter person even took an interest in our bikes coming outside and looking at them. We will definitely be staying here again. Thank you BW / RGI staff for making us feel welcome and comfortable.

Been coming there for almost 12 years always comfortable very elegant nice whirlpool baths especially after a long drive. One of the best hotels I have ever gone too hands down.

We walked in at 6am after a night of driving and were pleasantly surprised when, with no reservation, the gentleman at reception let us do a VERY early check in. On top of that, he discounted our room to make up for a computer error. Not only that, but the staff that we've encountered since then have been just as friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that our room was on the pool level near the entrance to the breakfast room and therefore pretty noisy. Seems like poor planning in terms of room layout, but not a huge deal if you're an early (pre 630) riser.

On our family vacation we arrived earlier then expected. I called and talk to Richard and he was great about allowing us in early. Once we went to our room the toilet was constantly running but I called and the maintenance supervisor was there within min's and fixed it quick and with a smile.
