My friend was a member and brought us here for dinner and drinks. Must have a collared shirt, not a problem at all. The facility was very nice, the building itself was expertly maintained and the history that is housed inside is interesting and full of life. I went on taco Tuesday and it was great. The food selection was superb and the tacos were excellent. The wine selection is great and we had some great wine. The waiting staff was amazing! Super friendly and so helpful. I would become a member if I lived in San Francisco.

Considered this as a potential wedding venue. I was running a few minutes late for our appointment due to traffic, but my fiance was right on time. He checked in with the front desk clerk to let him know we were there for a wedding tour. I arrive a few minutes later, clerk is now on the phone, doesn't acknowledge me at all. We're waiting and waiting, he's still gabbing away. As anyone who has worked a front desk job probably knows, there are two ways to handle this: 1) "Sorry caller, may I place you on a brief hold? " or 2) gesture to us that you'll be with us in just a moment. Neither happens, and we stand in the lobby as club members come and go. Now very late for our appointment we eventually motion to the guy and he suddenly slams the phone down, rolls his eyes, big huff and then screams at us that he's on the phone and obviously can’t do two things at once. Shocking he didn't add "you idiots" at the end of that sentence. He then storms off to get the wedding coordinator, we almost walked out right there but she came out pretty quick, extremely apologetic look on her face. She immediately apologizes and tells us that "this happens from time to time" which didn't inspire confidence. We figured we came all the way here, we might as well see the space, but the damage was already done. We go upstairs and while the view is nice, we definitely weren't blown away. It's very dated (not in a fun vintage way… more just musty).

It's a great place generally, very nice people and is great for hosting professional events. Lots of space, locker rooms and great squash courts.

On very short notice… only a few hours. The chef and staff were able to accommodate a party of 14 for a fabulous dinner on a Friday night. In fact it was said to be one of the best dinners had by all during their week stay in SF. Well done, glad to be a member! (and saved the evening from bad Top of the Mark original dinner plan)

Stayed at the University Club of San Francisco as an overnight guest, and have to say it was a pleasant experience. The staff was very helpful, and eager to help where needed. The location of the hotel is conviently on the cable cart line, and the historic building provides a good view over the city as well. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable, and are decorated according to the building's style. All in all, I can see myself stay there again in a future trip to San Francisco.

Came here for a wedding for some friends. Gorgeous view of the city. Definitely old school and upscale. Bathrooms are super old looking inside, which was a bit surprising. Food and drinks were very good.

Very warm place. Excellent reception. We had reciprocity with our club in Argentina. When we arrived we were invited with a few drinks.

The location is very good.
But the receptionist (the 16/01/18) was so arrogant: we showed up at the hotel without a reservation as we had seen that the rooms were at $100 (instead of $200 as it was late). He's proposing $200. We told him we saw that it was $100. He replied, "It was my boss who put that price, I do not agree! " And all that on an air so arrogant and haughty…

Absolutely beautiful. Attended my best friend's wedding here, if there is a better place to have a wedding in San Francisco, I can't think of it.

The rooms are large and there are several suites, which we chose this trip. However, there is currently no a. C. In the rooms, but they always get a nice breeze. Housekeeping is a bit less diligent than we expected, for instance our room looked like it could use a vacuuming the entire week we were there. The dining rooms are on level three and four and have and exquisite view of downtown skyline. Go here for dinner if you can get a reservation, but they stop serving at 9:00 p. M. The club is filled with many unique and interesting pieces of memorabilia that depicts the SF culture beautifully. Across the street is the Fairmont Hotel, which is also a fun place to visit for their iconic Tonga Lounge and luxurious lobby.

The service was awful, this is not a hotel. They rent there extra rooms to tourists to generate revenue but care little about them. The rooms are dated, ours was dirty. The breakfast was stale, and super basic, it was self service and not tasty — don't waste your money on it. The price of the venue is high — for the same price, I would have stayed in a hotel in Fishermans Wharf where there is much more to see and do. Parking is super expensive, over $40 a night when we found a car-park close by for $70 for 3 days. They also charged us extra for stuff we didn't use and so had to claim it back through our credit cards. Not ideal and would not recommend.

Very bad rooms! I do not recommend this place at all. Even the breakfast buffet is pitty with very cold atmosphere. The localisation is central. Only positive point with the bar. Staff is not helpful and very old school. Everything is old shool not taking care of the client. To avoid.

Good place for events; multi-level space was comfortable.

Gorgeous hardwood, beautiful balcony, attentive staff. If you're lucky enough to be extended the invitation, take it!

Beautiful and classy location.

A classic hotel and club, The University Club harken back to another era. The rooms are not frilly, lack air conditioning, and the street noise is impossible to drown out. For a quick trip it will suffice. Otherwise you may want to look elsewhere.

Nice club, but a bit stuffy. For example they would not let me use the bar because I am not a member, even though I was there for a private function.

Very old-school place and fairly dead most nights. They are trying to get younger members to join and apparently a lot have, but the club is still fairly quiet. Great food and awesome drinks. $1 oysters on Fridays are a must.

The University Club has a beautiful facility. Leather overstuffed chairs, wood panelling, and antique furnishings combine with incredible views and great service. That said, it isn't for everyone. In fact, that's kind of the point. Like other elite private clubs, some people aren't going to find the UClub to their taste. But if you want an atmosphere that hearkens to old San Francisco, and service to match, I couldn't recommended it more for an event or a membership (if they'll have you). Some of the previous reviewers should revisit it. The management has recently changed, much for the better.
