I sleep well, and the rooms are clean. When I forgot stuff in the room it was saved for me. The attached bar and restraint serve great food. Both have a very cool view of the Boat Harbor. Service is usually fast and my tea glass has never gone dry. It definitely is our first choice.

Upon arrival into our room, it was extremely hot. We came to the conclusion that it was because the water faucet in the bathtub was running hot water. When informing the front desk about the heat and the running water, she told us the heat is because they have no ac and the sun heats the rooms. The time we were in Valdez it was raining with overcast. The heat was coming from the hot water in the bathtub. We kept our window open with the fan in front of it. The second day we came back to our hotel room the cleaning staff had been in but didn’t clean our bathtub. There was still hair in it.

The location of this hotel was right on the harbor! The parking was okay for our truck but if you had something bigger it might be difficult. The hotel itself was clean, except our window. The breakfast was okay, we have had better at BW locations, but any breakfast is better than none. The room was tight and there were only three of us and one is a kid. No air conditioning, but usually not needed in Alaska. There was a fan which was needed. The room tended to get stuffy, but we opened the window and put on the fan, problem solved. The area was quiet as well as the hotel. I would stay again.

We had a pleasant stay here. Definitely the most affordable standard hotel in Valdez. Comfy beds and plenty of hot water in a nice bathroom. Breakfast served each morning was pretty good and options fluctuated. Cobwebs were present in room and lobby. Paint was peeling in room but they are obviously working on fixing up the hotel. They didn't always make beds but we always had fresh towels. About 100 cable channels and located in the heart of town immediately next to the dock. I would reccomend this hotel.

This was by far the best food and service in Valdez. The Fat Mermaid… never again.

Great place to stop in and have a drink or 6. Great view of the harbor. Great mix of locals and a few tourists. Wait Staff was awesome and very comforting. I do agree with one of the other reviews regarding the weird smell. Almost a little like old dew. Bathroom was out of toilet paper, but staff refilled right away. Would stop there again!

Do not stay here. The staff were rude and the food at the restaurant was terrible. I am not a complaining person but and have NEVER had to speak with someone about a bad experience. However that all changed during this stay. I had to speak with front desk staff about the way I was treated and with the restaurant manager about the quality of the food. I will never stay here again. Find some where else to stay!

The BestWestern Valdez Harbor Inn was an excellent place to stay. The location is very convenient. Breakfast was included and the selection of foods was much better than most places. Had dinner in their restaurant and the food was great! Rooms very comfortable, and free coffee int he lobby!

Nice, clean hotel even though they are remodeling. The breakfast crew were excellent in keeping everything filled and warm. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel with clean rooms. Breakfast was very good and the internet was working. A bit pricey but it was nice.

Great place to stay in Valdez, Alaska. The property is right on the water next to the harbor. We stayed in room which was a corner room with a jacuzzi and fantastic views. The staff were all very friendly and professional. The continental breakfast was very nice and had hot food like fresh scrambled eggs, omlettes, sausage, biscuits+gravy, and of course cold things like cereals, yogurt, etc. It seems that they also rotate the menu a bit day-to-day. Overall, very impressed and would definitely come back again.

We always choose Best Western Hotels in rural communities as a quality and comfortable place to stay. We were extremely surprised and disappointed on this visit, this was clearly the WORST Best Western we have ever endured after well over 100 nights in the past 3 years. This hotel is well beyond its service life. Placed us in Pet Room first night, gagging experience, walls and ceiling paper thin so very noisy to late into night. TV and toilets required constant maintenance during stay and no hot water on morning of departure with a 2 Bus tour departing at the same time… The Lobby is nice and the only place you can see the Harbor. Breakfast was standard BW fare. Restaurant was excellent and service great, priced well. This is a DO NOT STAY recommendation from us.

This bar has the best view of the mountains and harbor that you can imagine. The service is great and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed.

The room was filthy, there was a sock from the previous guest in the corner of our room and a dirty towel with what looked like possibly blood on it hanging in the bathroom, and that was just within the first 5 minutes of walking in the room. The room was tiny and had a funny smell, almost like old urine. The halls and stairs were dirty, and you constantly had to mess with the knobs to keep the water hot while showering. I gave it two stars simply for friendly staff and a decent breakfast. I have stayed at several Best Westerns in Alaska, this is by far the worst one. Please update the hotel and train the staff to clean properly.

I have been staying at the Valdez Best Western for 6 years now. The hotel offers a company discount. The staff is welcoming and helpful. I enjoy their commentary breakfast, and the restaurant serves the best hamburger in towm.

Rooms are overpriced for how small they are and they have a funny smell.

Friendly staff, room temperature was high on arrival and stayed high, there is no air conditioning. Wi-Fi was stable and excellent. Breakfast was good, enough tables were available, but you may have to eat outside the breakfast room. It is a good hotel.

Great View of the harbor and walking distance to Restaurants and Grocery Store… Cozy Alaskan rooms and a decent Continental Breakfast like Meal…

The Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn was recommended by my coworkers who travel to Valdez 2-3 times per year. The rooms were clean (I even lifted the sheets to check for signs of bed bugs… can't be too careful in Alaska these days! ). The water pressure in the shower was good, and the bathroom had an exhaust fan that could be turned on/off with a separate switch. The bed was firm, but comfortable. The view of the harbor was fantastic! It was pretty easy to hear noises/speaking in the hallway, but it didn't bother us much. There was a fan in the room, which helped to drown out noises. Breakfast was pretty good! The day we ate there it included a lot of hot items, including eggs, cheese omelets, sausage patties, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy, and oatmeal (in addition to typical continental breakfast items like breads for toasting, cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc). I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Valdez.

The front desk staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Getting up to the second floor with luggage is a hassle with no elevator. The room is fine, but slightly outdated. Breakfast service is above average. The attached Italian restaurant is convenient but 3 Stars at best. Internet was unreliable. Only one entrance to the hotel, which is a little odd for a property this large.

If you can't get a room on the 2nd floor, flee. Front desk staff were great, the room is fine, the beds are comfortable but if you can't get any sleep because the floors squeek and the walls are thin, none of that matters. I live in downtown San Francisco, I am used to lots of noise but the people in the room above have been up since 5:00, they've found the squeekiest spot in the floor and they're having a dance party in that exact spot. It's now 6:40 and it's still going on. I know they can hear it (unless they're deaf) because the floor in this room squeeks and I can hear it when I walk across the floor. The hotel should supply earplugs when you check in if they're putting you on the first floor.

Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very polite and helpful. Breakfast was varied and delicious. Roma Italian restaurant was great as well!

Room was great. No ramps or elevators to get to the second floor, so you have to trudge your luggage up and down steps. Clean nice bathrooms great location to the harbor and the ferry.

Sitting on the stunningly beautiful Valdez harbor, this old but well cared for hotel has the best location in town. You can park your car and forget about it for a couple of days as you explore the waterfront, the town, and Prince William Sound. The housekeeping staff will keep your room clean, and the front desk staff aims to please. Special thanks to front desk staff Christie and Michelle for their professional service, good nature, and for making myself and my husband feel welcome. :-)

Great place to stay in Valdez. The staff was amazingly nice and helpful and the hot breakfast was plentiful. The location was the best in town for us.

The room was nice, although the site I bought it from said it had AC and it didn't, so it was pretty hot in May. I can't imagine July. It was amazing how little the front desk crew seemed to care about doing their jobs. Same for the hotel's restaurant. The continental breakfast was way better than expected. Fantastic food.

Rooms are noisy. Shower undulates from freezing to scalding. Maid service came in one day (3 day stay). Bath mat was folded & shower curtain tossed over the rod. No trash removal, beds not made, coffee not replenished. Breakfast is better than most. Large variety of available items. Beds are very comfortable. Restaurant is extremely understaffed. Service was terribly slow, but not due to server. She was running her tail off, but had too many tables. Food is tasty. Bar service is terrible. Bartender wears a perpetual frown. He was more interested in having shots with friends than serving customers. He seemed to get perturbed when I'd approach the bar for drinks. He was assisted by a young lady who was serving our table. She was enjoying onion rings with friends and would get to our table at her convenience. Not being locals made our table a low priority. These people took care of their friends. Guess it makes sense. Keep the regulars happy. If you are a visitor, don't expect the red carpet treatment.

30 March 2017 — wet snow/slush/rain. The place seems quite popular with skiers and other outdoor recreational types of folks. Best parts: The window could be opened and the baseboard heating kept the temp in my room perfect for me — nicely cool. Also, breakfast items are hot with a reasonably good assortment that's similar to Hampton Inn's. Reasons for the low rating are an odd smell in both the lobby and rooms. Plus the bathroom, in particular, smells old and musty. Most of the odd smells could be from the fireplace or the beautiful, rustic, exposed wood, not sure. Also, the staff were professional, though standoffish, and remained seated while I checked in and out.

Rooms are basic but clean, comfortable beds! Location is great, right off the water.

It was a good place to stay. For the most part everyone is nice. They have residential bunny is that always stay on the back part of the hotel. The breakfast is pretty good. I wish it would a little longer. The only thing was when my things got thrown away the manager did not here to speak to me like he said he was going to.

If you want to book your hotel around labor day price $170, if you are Military and try and book the hotel it is Magically NOT Available. Best Western has great respect for the military so much so, they block out all of September and refuse to give them a military rates. Pathetic…

The Great Western in Valdez is a nice clean and roomy hotel with one of the biggest fitness rooms that I have ever seen in a hotel.
We had a tasty dinner in the dining room overlooking Prince William Sound with wonderful service.
If you are going to be in Valdez, I recommend the Great Western.

Staying here was so amazing. We reserved a normal room and they gave us one with a good view, because it was open. Valdez is so beautiful in general and seeing a mountain through the window just enhanced that ;) haha. They have free breakfast, and it was amazing. Free hotel breakfast is the best, because most of the places around here only sold seafood except for Subway and we were keeping it on a budget. You can't get into a better inn than this. Basically in the center of the little city. If I come back to Valdez i'm coming back here.

Came here for the Barber because I couldn't find any other haircut place in town besides Salons. Was a great haircut, the barber took the time to clean and vacuum up all the leftover hairs on my head so I wasn't itchy all day. Highly recommend if you want a well priced old-fashioned haircut while in town.

I had read all the excellent reviews so we called to make reservations for 2 nights. The desk was very helpful, but told us they only had the first night available but they would be happy to put us down on a list in case something became available. That was fine. When we arrived to check in the girl at the desk was rather rude and the same as told us there was no way we would be able to get the other night. However when we gave her our BW Gold Elite Member card she became very nice and said there was no problem with us probably getting the second night. We then went to the restaurant to eat. Pricey but good food. We were still finishing our drinks when the hostess came to our table and asked us to please leave as they needed our table. We immediately left and went to find someplace else for our second night. Will not recommend to anyone I know.

My stays have always been great, no issues. Staff is very nice, remembers my name, rooms clean, housekeeping service done well. Only suggestion I have is that while the gym is adequate and I will continue to use it as is, and in these financial times it may not be necessary, but if there is spare funding, the gym be upgraded and equipment modernized.
