The Rain Tree Hotel is placed in a unique location with more than 50 species of both endemic & migrant birds, flocking together over magnificent cluster of massive rain trees at the Lake, right in front of the hotel.
Situated in Tissamaharama, the old capital city of southern Sri Lanka, the Rain Tree Hotel stands on the shores of the Tissa Lake.
The hotel arrange safaris to 3 national parks: Yala (Leopard, Bear, Elephant, Deer etc), Bundala (Birds), and Udawalawa (Elephants). The parks are 30 to 45 minutes away from the hotel (Udawalawe 75 minutes).
The guests can enjoy a wonderful 360 degrees panoramic view over the lake, old temples and mountain ranges nearby, from a view point at the top of the hotel, which is 19 m above the ground, At sunset the guest can enjoy a drink, (Sundowner) when thousands of flying foxes are leaving the rain trees and fly past the hotel.
At Kirinda beach you can go for a swim in the Indian ocean.
Asian culture, history, archaeology and religion are encountered at the temples in Tissa, Kirinda and the holy town Kataragama, which Buddhist, Hindus and Catholics visit from all over the world.
