What a beautiful tranquil place this is. Everything from the rooms, to the scenery to the activities to the food was beyond any expectation. We will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a break away.

Must take a horse ride, on site! And visit All out adventures down the road for an amazing outdoor experience!

Nestled in the middle of the Berg surrounded by an incredible amphitheater of the mountains you truly feel like you are in paradise! The hospitality of Montusi was exceptional and the food prepared by Chef Russell was exquisite! The service provided by the staff was of utmost quality! And the views were simply incredible — waking up to the sun peeping through your bedroom window while at the same time bathing the mountains is a sight to behold!

A slice of heaven! Montusi’s setting is spectacular. So scenic with breathtaking views of the mountains and the amphitheater as a backdrop. So very peaceful! The pleasant walk up Montusi and the waterfall nearby is such a treat. Lovely soul food and the service is amazing, catering to individual needs.

A paradise in paradise! Montusi is not a simple lodge but a magical site full of souls passionate about their "Berg". Everything in this structure is respect, discovery and sharing. So let yourself be carried away by the walks, trails, horseback rides offered or simply enjoy the site by the pool or during an evening by the fire.

3rd visit in 7 months. Beautiful units. Lovely views. Just a peacefulness that overcomes you when admiring nature. Grounds are immaculate. Everything neat, clean and very tasteful.

We had an amazing 4 nights at Montusi Mountain Lodge. The idea of separate chalet-type rooms leaves you with the feeling of being in your own piece of paradise. The staff are efficient and friendly — nothing is too much ch trouble for them. Absolutely delicious meals, what more could you ask for. Plus something to suit everyone if you want Activities. Definitely a place to visit again.

What a wonderful and relaxing stay we had at the beautiful Montusi Lodge. Such friendly staff, very beautiful accommodations and the best view in the whole berg.

Had a really great time here with the lodge ideally placed in the centre of the Amphitheater making the views from the rooms spectacular. Food was great and staff friendly and the lodge is really well maintained. The mountain biking was awesome with many Km, s of groomed trails, will definitely revisit.

The veggie food is worth every cent! The staff are incredible, friendly, always smiling (even with our rowdy bunch). Love the scenery, the horse rides (even in the snow). This is just the most beautiful gem!

Montusi Lodge looks on to the beautiful northern berg set in a tranquil setting with stunning views. There's an abundance of bird life and awesome trails to hike, ride or run. Their food is scrumptious and their service is top notch — and their staff are lovely! The accommodation is comfortable and the rooms spotless. Had a short stay in March to celebrate my partner's birthday. Amazing staff went out of their way to make the occasion special. Our picnic was beautiful and we loved the food prepared.

An amazing 3 days spent at Montusi Mountain Lodge with my hubby and toddler. From hiking, a private picnic, to a massage! A very relaxing weekend away. And not to mention the food! compliments to the chef! 5-star!

Quality accommodation, great food, friendly service and very well situated with a number of nature activities on hand. But most of all — tranquil — and a perfect place to unwind with family and friends.

Warm welcome and great service from all the staff. Great food and wine. In an ideal location surrounded by walking, biking and horse riding trails — definitely recommend the short walk to the top of the local hill. Lyndsay is especially helpful and provided great advice on our activities/day trips … would definitely recommend.

Great get away. Good service in the room but slow service in the dining room. Food presentation was excellent, but quality was not always up to standard. Management was attentive and I would suggest this as a destination; we will return.

My husband and I absolutely adore Montusi Mountain Lodge and this was our 7th or 8th visit. Having stayed in all their forms of accommodation, we can without hesitation recommend everyone of them. The garden suites and mountain suites (where we were last) are the epitomy of luxury and class combined with excellent breakfasts and dinners served in the main lodge. We have yet to walk out of a meal without saying how utterly delicious everything was. The staff are very friendly and helpful and are very willing to go the extra mile. We love to walk and hike so Montusi and the surrounding area allows us to indulge our passion to the fullest. They also offer self-catering cottages (privately owned) when available which are very spacious, so well equipped and certainly ticked all our boxes. Loved our stay at Montusi! The location is beautiful and the service was good. Amazing food and they are quite respectful. Loved it! The surrounding area is great for day hikes as well.

What a fantastic weekend in the Northern Berg and an excellent stay at Montusi! The accommodation and grounds are impeccable, the staff very friendly and helpful and the attention to detail does not go unnoticed. Aside from the aesthetics and comfort of the stay, it is the heart of the place that is what makes it a true gem — going the extra mile not only for the guests but also the staff and the community is what the Carte and du Plessis families are all about! Highly recommended and we will be back!

Tranquil spot in the berg. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Restaurant quality is very good.

Montusi lodge is a wonderful place to stay for a view days. Beautiful view and a nice place to walk or hike or ride a horse. Unfortunately the staff (except for the manager and owners) are not very friendly or helpfull. A couple of times the bill wasn't correct (charge you a double if you order just one), most of the time there is no one at the bar and you have to search for someone who can give you a drink. If you want to order a lunch you have to repeat it 3 times. The staff talks about you with each other standing in the corner. In my opinion you can expect a lot more, because of the price you pay. I also have to give a compliment, that is that the food is wonderful and so tasteful.

We had a wonderful stay at Montusi Mountain Lodge. The rooms, the service and the food are faultless and the view from the rooms is even better. We highly recommend Montusi and while there take the Tugela Gorge hike.

A beautiful lodge in the Drakensberg with a breathtaking view of the Amphitheatre. The pool area just a dream. The leisure facilities were very versatile.
The room was very clean. The food just a dream.
I can only recommend this lodge to anyone who plans trips to the Drankenberge and wants to relax in the evening after a strenuous hike.

This is an amazing place in a stunning area. We stayed in a large house with a view over the fields with horses and other animals passing by. There’s a kitchen in the house but we went for the superb food from the lodge. There's a complementary high tea with cake of the day and a bar with a great selection of drinks. Also as far as activities are concerned it is a great location for old and young people (we were there with 2 boys of 9 and 11). One could go horseback riding with horses from the lodge, hiking with or without a guide to the waterfalls or up the mountains and spot birds and other wild animals. Alternatively one can go all out at All Out Adventures nearby: Trapeze, Bounce, Quad driving and so on. Or fly fishing in the little lake on the premises. Playing tennis is also an option, there is a tennis court on the premises as well. And we could borrow rackets and tennis balls from the lodge. The pool is quite large, nice and clean, with a great view over the area. As all the people at the lodge were very friendly and helpful it made us wanting to stay forever.

Very nice accommodation with amazing view and great service. They will clean your house and grill every day for you. You can also book a horse ride, which I strongly recommend (great horses and guides). There is a very nice pool and area for children as well.

It's great place where you can enjoy delicious and unique food with the best view. Seems first a bit upscale, but the prices are not. (Please note that we just visited the restaurant)

Top notch resort, really great accommodation. Beautiful views, nice walks at the resort and close to the Royal Natal National Park for more walks. The food served is of the highest quality and clearly prepared by a chef who takes pride in every plate he serves. Will surely be returning to this family (3 sisters) run boutique hotel.

A great place to stay in if you want to go hiking for tugela falls!

Comfortable self-catering chalets in the heart of the Northern Drakensberg. Rooms are great. Plenty of amenities and space within the grounds, plus short hikes, pool and restaurant. More activities are a short drive away. Note: Bring food with, not much groceries can be bought in the area.

The place is amazing, the view its a breath of fresh air. The self-catering cottages are very spacious, the patio and braai area offer an amazing view of the mountains. The garden is well kept. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook and braai. Really enjoyed the stay.

Came here twice for the horse rides but staying here looks like it will be quite a treat. The horses are excellent for beginners and the guides are very patient. Great views. Lovely layout. Would highly recommend staying here. Pricey though.

Nestled below the Drakesberg. Great accommodation and great food. Lot of outdoor activities or just complete relaxation. Also a great adventure park, just 5 km away.

Our family has been coming here for decades ~ a favourite South African retreat.

Over this past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the wonderful Montusi Mountain Lodge and it was absolutely SPECTACULAR. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, throughout the duration of my stay I couldn't have felt any more at home than I did — it just had that homey comfy vibe about it all. The unit we stayed in was just perfect with a stunning view of the mountains from my bedside — I could not have asked for anything better to wake up to ESPECIALLY when we were fortunate enough to have snow on the mountains when we woke up on Saturday morning. The highlight of my stay had to be the hike to the bushman caves with Shadrach our tour guide and Joseph our tour dog. Seeing the two of them in action and seeing the bond that was shared was a real treat. The best part of the hike was when we reached the caves and Shadrach whipped out cups and flasks with home made crunchies for some tea/coffee — this was such a DIVINE experience and one I will cherish forever. The food at every meal was nothing less than five star and had my taste buds dancing at every meal. Each meal was carefully prepared and tasted amazing. Our server Henry was always friendly and added his own little story to our stay, giving us a chuckle every now and then and served us well throughout our stay. For anyone looking to escape city life and have some needed R 'n R — I highly recommend Montusi Mountain Lodge. A remarkable hidden gem right on our doorstep.

This past weekend we were fortunate enough to visit Montusi, and all I can say is WOW what an incredible experience, from warm and cozy fire places, and heated floors, robes and turned down beds, to staff that were so friendly you just want to hug them, which I did a lot of. Our hike to the caves with Shadrach, and his eager and trusted 4 legged companion Joseph, a dog with so much character had us entertained and laughing all the way up the mountain, Shadrach's insightful knowledge of our surroundings an absolute treat. Horseback ridding and taking in the breathtaking views. You just realize how blessed we are to live in such an incredibly beautiful country. Eyes feasting on the surroundings. Dinner prepared beautifully and so tasty, every dish came with an array of lovely tastes and was simply delicious. What a wonderful place to visit, sit back read books while sitting on comfy couches by the warm fireplace, given you can look down long enough to read without staring out of the window at the spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains. As a photographer I couldn't stop taking photos the landscape just to enticing. Truly one of the most memorable experiences I've had in the Berg. Montusi Lodge is a lovely place for experiencing the best of the Drakensberg mountains. Highly recommended.

There is only one word to describe the management, staff, accommodation, food and ambience: — FANTASTIC.

Great mountain biking routes, beautiful scenery, relaxing accommodation.

Awesome place. The (big) houses are very large with a hearth for the evening and with good view towards the mountains. Everything is clean, staff is friendly. Dinner is very good. It's only a short drive to the Royal Natal national park. The only (very small) critique I'd have is that wireless is only available in the main building. You shouldn't need it here for anything than giving this place a five star rating on Google ;)

Awesome venue for active holiday. Great for families with kids — lots to do, peaceful and safe. Facilities lovely.

Beautiful surroundings and nice people. Everything was good accept from the dinner food and no mini bar. Would recommend it for elder people who like rest in combination with a beautiful panorama.
