I think 4* for this hotel is probably a bit of a stretch. The hotel overall needs a good update, specially the rooms that have a cheap look and feel. The buffet food was rather average to low quality and the worse part is that the main dinning room doesn't even have AC. They have a few fans hanging of the ceiling but definitely not sufficient for the area's hot and humid weather. Having lunch/dinner at in the dinning room was always a challenge with the heat. I tried the 'Mexican-Restaurant' and I wasn't impressed either. I mean the food in the Mexican restaurant was better than in the main dining-room but it was nothing to write home about. The swimming pool is very small and it doesn't even have an in-pool bar. I was shocked that they don't allow drinks in the pool (not even in plastic glasses) yet there were hundreds of children (including babies with no diapers) in the pool. I mean, a beer falling into the water would be like a drop in the piss ocean… On the positive side, everyone was very friendly and access to the beach was very easy. Pity that we couldn't use the beach because of the amount of seaweed (this was a natural event, so not part of my 2/5 star rating).

My philosophy, never go with high expectations… that way your best let down. The resort is great and food is average at best. Unfortunately mother nature worked up some seaweed that has messed up the beaches and has a not so pleasant odor to it. Make the best out of all situations and enjoy life. I would definitely say try this resort with families end you get to enjoy the other Viva Wyndham resort close by which is also nice. As for my personal preferences, we visited the Royal today for the wedding we are attending and it was extremely nice and kidless! The activities are way more fun an inclusive also.

Kinda torn on this review. Staff not very friendly,, just very business like, but food and bars were good. Pool area was clean and pretty, but closed at 8 pm and you can not take drinks into the pool. We had a member of our party get sick to their stomach, and the resort wanted to charge us $100 US for the blanket and sheet. We argued the fact that you cant predict when you might get sick and they ended up not charging us,, but it really seemed like a scam. We had our AC on high from day one (we were there for 6 days) and it never got truly cool in our room. There is NO elevator, so be ready for stairs. The main restaurant (buffet) offered themed nights, but the offerings of said themes was very minimal. Overall, we had a great time, but I found myself wanting/expecting more for what we paid.

Adequate mattresses… beach towel provided the least… painted bathtub, bad effect… d as well as the use, the paint shards remain on you ☹ ️

The staff at the hotel are very welcoming and professional. Direct access to the beach, top kitchen, impeccable hygiene. I recommend.

Excellent everything. Friendly Staff Beautiful Beach. The Restaurants of the Maya and the Aztec excellent attention and delicious menu. To highlight the group of animated guys always pending one and the shows they performed. Unforgettable Journey.

Second stay at Azteca from April 20 to 27. Always as well very clean, some guests a little noisy late at night or early in the morning. Very clean, attentive staff and always smiling. Plenty of sunbeds available under the palm trees. Pleasant activities. Excellent food Despite that did the trick pretty fast. A la carte Restaurants very good service. Presence of Algae Sargasso 4 days a week unfortunately but otherwise very beautiful sea.

Great vacation destination. Lovely small resourt with beautifully beach and nice sitting and dining yard inside. Food is not the greatest but fine.

After visiting the beach in Playa del Carmen and getting to know the pollution as well as the sewage treatment similar smell, the review is immediately correct.
The room was clean and the breakfast was very good.
Choice and quality of food in the Strandrestaunt not great, food selection very small and little variety. Möblage of Vögelkot contaminated and service personnel does not feel responsible.
Rating in the travel catalogues do not correspond to the facts super daily fresh pastries.

The attention of the excellent people, only a calico on arrival, my reservation was not available, but fortunately it was resolved. Very good location.

Little Piece of heaven. Excellent Service the food is varied. Buffet: Several choices such as the specific counter for those who take care of their line;), diversity also of breakfasts and choice of succulent desserts. We also went to a la carte restaurants, which are not bad at all, but you have to book. But I admit that I had a big favorite for the buffet, no fixed time to go to eat and besides, you could sit at the tables outside. Oh, yes! Don't forget the little Café Cappuccino at the lobby bar after lunch! Excellent! Have a nice trip:)

Very small resort everything close to access. Food not bed but not match variety of the food in the buffet. Personal is nice only one thing I didn't like, everywhere you come is crowd. You have to catch place in the shadow, but security take your stuff away if you don't show up in1 hour this is the rules. So I thing it worth 4 stars not more.

Great Resort. Inclusive. Well cared for. Helpful and welcoming staff. Cleanliness of the first order, gardens perfectly kept. There are several food outlets. The kitchen is of a good standard and offers a wide choice for lunch and dinner. Entertainment not intrusive, the resort offers the possibility of a quiet holiday or more fun-oriented. Possibility to make excursions and/or sports activities. Recommended.

The people are very friendly there, but they put us in a room with a mattress that had damps. We communicated it and they changed it very quickly. But we still slept two nights in the until we realized. The food in the restaurants is great and at the buffet too. The drinks are not bad for an all inclusive and there are always sun loungers available on the beach.

Great location, very nice and helpful staff, clean and with wide choice of food. It is about 1h from Cancun airport. The sea, if there are no algae, is fantastic.

Its a great spot steps away from the big beautiful beach which is kept clean. Would see workers constantly raking up seaweed. The staff were always very friendly so we felt very comfortable here. Not to large of a resort so getting around is easy. The food was good. The drinks can be a bit weak but when I wanted something stronger I would just ask for a double and they would make it for me no problem. The beds are a bit hard. The bathrooms could be a bit cleaner. The But all in all I would definantly reccomend this resort and would come back. Had a great time!

The hotel complex has a good service and the staff is always friendly. The room is clean. The bathroom has a bathtub with an entry height of approx. 50 cm! This is no longer timely and unreasonable for older people.

Super Hotel! Very clean, rooms are very large, had the sea view. Had a large shower and a large bathtub in the room:)
Beach was clean and you always had enough loungers to choose.

The hotel is clean, cleaning staff friendly, beds super hard (great for back pain suffers like me), hot rainfall shower heads and wellgroomed grounds… but that's it. Food is genereric with heavy salt content, water is hard to find… most hotels fill your room daily with at least one water bottle, 1 when you arrive, that's it. And don't try to refill that water bottle. Haha, your gunna get an earful. I got reservations for 2 restaurants, which were better then the buffets (you can also go to their sister hotel 3 doors down) but your forced to eat buffets if you plan to see any sites, you can only reserve from 2-3pm. I'm in Mexico, how about offering local food, like a taco… Alcohol seemed watered down, few bartenders mixed blended drinks right and if your like me, I prefer beer, you'll be disappointed, it's on tap and flat. The pool is nice but the members setup towels, magazines, whatever to "save" their lounger. When you watch for over 3 hours (tried twice), and no one shows you think your in the clear… nope, they get upset because they paid for that. And the staff agree. Now here's the worse part, I came to enjoy the crystal clear water and white sandy beaches, which were far from that. They call it Sarcassum, a seaweed condition (look it up), and omg how disgusting. The beach is covered, 10-12ft on the shore (which you have to walk through if you want water) full of flying bugs and just nasty to walk on.

I have been to this resort since 27/1/AL10/2/18 beautiful place ca mere large and clean it eats very well from the DIY to the various card restaurants present in the resort (free 3 per week). Swimming pool, sea with deckchairs and free to move them. Exceptional animation. Recommended also for those who have children, the only downside the airline blue Panorama you do not know when you arrive and when you part…

Completely delighted with our stay at the Viva Wyndham Azteca. The room, the meals, the beach, the coaches, all right. The outside décor as well as the gardens are very nice.
Only small downside: I posted on January 24th, from the hotel postcards that on February 21 still have not arrived at destination? Did they stay in the starting box? I would have liked to know if they will arrive someday?

An excellent hotel. We went on two occasions and we will return the next time we visit Playacar.
It is familiar and has everything you need and more, to spend the best holiday!

Excellent hotel. Quiet, excellent treatment, bartenders, excellent food… the animation Team… excellent… doing sports, entertainment and night show… excellent all.

Love the all inclusive. Visit the Italian restaurant! Buffet is awesome here. Staff is fabulous. At first didn't want garden view but was close to everything and wound up enjoying.

About 20 minutes walk from the shopping area.
Food is top as well as the service. There are various theme restaurants and these are visually and tastefully grandiose! The resort is not so huge and therefore you do not have to go long distances in buying nehmensollte it ever rain, the rooms are dry reachable.
We found the shows quite good, considering that the animators are doing the hotel! Many dance shows these are done very well, as almost by professionals otherwise will also be much for the entertainment offered by the animators.

The beach is also very nice and the algae are also always removed, if some of them are washed.
There are plenty of shady places.

Perfect place and despite the amount of people you can breathe tranquility even at the beach. Rooms in the norm as dislocations and very clean. Food is what does not take 5 stars because it is so so but now of the end we are used too well in Italy. 10 stars to Samantha, the animator, who is meanandy and I highly recommend going to the cocobongo together!

Very good hotel to spend a holiday, room service daily, you change the towels and fill the bar, the food I can say is the best of all the chain, 24hours Food and a large beach, only missing live music during the nights in the main square To want to live inside the hotel, a relaxing experience.

Food at the restaurants was really good, but not so much at the cafeteria! Drinks were all right, nothing special. There is only one pool which is a downside, but in the morning and afternoon it's not too busy! The shows at night aren't the greatest, mostly only enjoyable if you're a kid. I would say you get what you pay for, but even then I think you could find better for a "4 star" resort!

Shabby Hotel: Rooms with little lighting, linen and wipes with stains, dining/dinner room looks like a school canteen 20 years ago.

I loved my stay, the buffet, the bar service and the restaurants were fine. Bravo to the animation that really works a lot and that are excellent.

Simple and small all inclusive resort in the Playacar area. The 3 on-site restaurants we tried were really good, however the daily buffet was uninspired, and after trying the same offerings as were found in the restaurants definitely not of the same quality. It was a small buffet with only minor variations in the daily food choices, so if you're a fussy eater that like variety you might have issues finding food to eat. The drinks from the bars were not watered down although many of them had a lot of sugar and syrups in them and not enough real juice. But they were friendly and made variations as per your request. This resort catered to a group of about 500 people and those I met were mostly from South America and Western Europe, with a few groups from Canada. The workers mostly spoke basic English, Italian, and German, as well as Spanish, but anything too complex could be difficult to convey and they mostly stuck with Spanish with other languages thrown in to get their points across based on who they were interacting with. The rooms were clean and comfortable with A. C. And lots of light. You had to pay $2 US for the safe and you only got 3 complimentary bottles of soda and one of water in the fridge on your first day. With mostly non-potable water in the rooms we resorted to bringing cups of water to the rooms to refill our bottles. The nightly performance started at 930pm and was put on by the hotel's animation crew who also did the daily activities.

It was a great holiday in a very nice hotel. The location was great and the staff were very nice. The food in the restaurants was very good and there was a great selection. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. The entire hotel complex is decorated in the Maja style and is located in a tropical garden. The pool area is also very nicely located. The beach is gorgeous and beautiful, you can either lie under palm trees in the shade or in the sun on a long fine sandy beach! I would book this hotel again and again!

Very efficient staff, very clean, hearty and varied food… Very nice Italian chef Totò. Great alternative Restaurants to the paper. The only downside is very slow Wi-Fi and rooms that look invery moist and smell of mold. Great reception from the animation guys, efficient and discreet. The beach very large and the sea very nice.

Everything was perfect, and the buffet on Christmas Eve a marvel, a lot of work from a whole team. Everything is maintained in a flawless way, the beach is superb. We tried the Italian restaurant a la carte, a treat.

The hotel is highly recommended for families with children and to rest. It creates a relaxed and familiar atmosphere. The overall attention is very good.
The rooms are comfortable, they are always clean and well maintained. The mattresses are perhaps of a better quality and antique.
The animators are fine, they make you want, although the quality of the animation has been degraded compared to previous years. Those responsible for beach sports are the best.
The food and the restaurants in general is good though at the firm the food is repeated quite a bit. Lack of variety, especially in the nights of typical meals, where one is waiting to see, for example Asian food and finds only one or two options of that type of food.
Another point that has been unimproved over previous years is the pool bar, where the quality of the food is regular, the minimum options and have even removed several years ago the ice cream machine that the boys (and Big) love.
The bartenders are extremely friendly and attentive, although they are not always experts in the field, they compensate with enthusiasm the lack of technical training.
In short, to go with family is a very good alternative.

Our 14 days stay here felt like paradise. Really good hotel overall with a nice beach.

Sub-par food. Drinks were good. Shows were entertaining but not remarkably well done. Lots of issues with the room when we first got there but were resolved within the first 48 hours. Definitely geared towards European population — VERY little English was spoken but plenty of Italian and German.

Excellent hotel, the staff are the most, super friendly and good vibes. The beach beautiful and always clean. The food is super varied.

The hallways of the hotel look like a prison sentence… We were moved 3 times of room by the bad condition of the mattresses! The hotel is full! of people, it is very expensive for what it offers! I would not recommend it to come with kids, the pool area is very dangerous and there are overcrowded… The pool is disgusting! They charge you for everything. If you miss the card the door of the Room 5 dollars! The glass door of the balcony of the room does not close well and are so stuck the balconies of the rooms that you can easily cross from one room to another, or I am obliged to use the safe! $2 a day!

The pool, the food, the DRINKS are so good! AND it was not far from the shopping center! Some staffs REALLY made our stay special. My kids love thé activities and night kids spectacle.

It is a hotel that did not keep up my expectations it is a bit old it does not have Wi-Fi. Only in the lobby, the signal does not get well to other sectors of the hotel and in the rooms they charge apart also charge separately the safe in some places there was smell of sewer the food was plentiful but similar every day there was a stall on the beach to ask for A drink or some food had to leave the beach and walk a few meters up to get to the place next to the pools there was not a nice place to sit before dinner and have a drink and listen to a piano or a song to pay more than to have gone to live Maya and I think it wasn't worth it I don't advise it.

I would say this Mexican resort is above average, 3.5 out of 5. Like most all inclusive Mexican resorts, the food lacks variety and taste. Clean resort with friendly staff. Thank you.

Wyndam Maya much better… Not very kid friendly here… European guests smoke like choo choo trains in Courtyard its gross should be a smoke free hotel. Need a laundry room.

Great hotel, good entertainment and very good restaurant.

It's a good resort overall. The location is just perfect, right on the beach with lots to do. The food was ok, at best. There are restaurants that require reservations with better food but you cannot eat there every night. Not sure what the rules are (not public info for some reason) but I think you can reserve dinners only about half of your nights. The employees are all very friendly. The rooms are fairly spacious but the decor is a bit dated.

Service is great, very attentive. Reservation restaurants very nice. I'm not a fan of the "buffet", but EVERYTHING imaginable is available to eat and the staff never seems to resent you for the priviledge. Lots of loungers on the beach, very few by the pool (which, unfortunately is just too hot), but the sea is lovely. I would love to have a couple small touches like washcloths, but honestly, a very nice place.

I was two weeks at this magnificent hotel I had a great time even with the entertainment I would really like to return.

Fantastic Resort… all very positive… a dream holiday certainly knows how to remake.

The resort itself is really nice, right by the beach with a 24 hour snack bar and pool. Great views and activities, but the gift shop is expensive so bring your own sunscreen and shampoo. Workers and staff are really friendly and interactive. Would recommend checking out the shows at night. The rooms are more or less okay. You get what you pay for. It could have been a bit cleaner. I ended up getting bug bites and coming home with even more bug bites. And the sheets are thin and scratchy. All in all the resort is pretty nice but the hotel could be better.

A very nice hotel with its huge private beach of turquoise blue! All meals are at will and especially delicious. What I liked most is all the small animals that we meet in the hotel according to our travels! The cleanliness and the spacious rooms of the hotel, the smile of the employees is a huge plus to discover without further delay!

Com Booked a room on here and they had the cheapest rates around… Definitely the best bang for the buck for an all inclusive resort. Amazingly beautiful beach, clean beautiful resort, extremely friendly staff, and all the food and drinks you can get your hands on (the food was great, ton of variety). Lots of activities for all ages. Staff goes above and beyond to make your stay there perfect. Also a kids club you can drop your kid (s) off to do activities with their staff (who were excellent with kids). My expectations weren't that high, but I plan on going back as many times as possible. Highly highly recommended!

Friendly establishment, this is not a great complex, which is appreciable. The food there is good, especially its theme restaurants. The hotel opens onto a beautiful beach with its beautiful blue water. Lots of cocktails available on his card, all better each one than the others. The hotel is very clean, the rooms spacious and the staff very polite and helpful.

Simple hotel with basic amenities to be an all inclusive.

It is an old hotel not been given that maintenance. In addition to being small there with the quality one would expect from the wyndham chain in food or in the conditions of the quarters.

Comfortable and very family oriented resort. The food was great and the staff was very friendly and ready to help you when you need it. The animation staff were incredible with their shows, my baby enjoyed it a lot (especially the Lion King). The games during the whole day in the pool area and beach made everybody to dance and play. We will come back for sure.
