Thank you for the comfortable stay, amazing hospitality and the delicious food. We really enjoyed the antiques — glasses, lamps, etc. In your lovely Ryokan. The location was perfect next to old town & temples. Everything was perfect especially the kind hospitality. Our only regret is we wish we could have stay longer. Lori, Maarten & Jos. Food here was outstanding array of choices—something for everyone. Property is charming and authentic. “Public” bath had only one other person when I visited so felt very private and relaxing. This was my favorite hotel experience during our 2 weeks in Japan!

What a fabulous experience! The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, the accommodations were beautiful and well kept, and the dinner and breakfast were 2 of the best meals we've had in all Japan. Fantastic!

One of the most amazing experiences in Japan, traditional place in the mountains. The people is great, the best service, the food and overall one of the best experiences that you can hava from Japan.

Great ryokan! The staff is very kind and the breakfast is delicious. The onsen baths are very nice too.

Don’t expect internet in your room. They claim to have Wi-Fi but in the seating area in the lobby, my whole family gets intermittent 1-2 bars of signal. Forget about trying to have access in your room. Food is OK and accommodations OK. Service is great but the Wi-Fi is a huge dealbreaker.

If you wish to try genuine Japanese hospitality. This is the place to go. It’s like nothing you have done before. Food and way of life. Check it out.

Excellent place to relax body and mind. Clean, friendly staff, have service to take you and bring you from the station. The food is excellent, in presentation and taste. I will definitely come back! I recommend it widely.

This was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Traditional Japanese hospitality. Amazing food, you will definitely not go hungry. There are two hot spring baths to relax in. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. A very enjoyable stay in a great part of Japan.

The hotel staff is very kind and very attentive, breakfast and dinner are very delicious, you can experience and room life, the only drawback is that the distance from the station.

The service is excellent, very nice staff, the place itself is beautifu! The onsens are awesome, also loved the dinner and the breakfast! I wish I could stay there more nights!

I recommend the hotel in takayama. There is nice and beautiful place. The waiters are kindly with smile. Dinner and breakfast are also delicious. They will take you to train station at the appointed time.

We had a lovely 2-nights’ stay and the dinners and breakfast was 1st class. Lots to eat and every dish was delicious. Even my very fussy daughter enjoyed most of them. Staff was super friendly and the place was very clean. We were supposed to be picked up at the train station but due to some miscommunications we had to get a taxi to get to the ryokan but were quickly reimbursed which we were not expecting. It was an easy walk down to the Old Houses and the morning markets. I would recommend this ryokan.

Very lovely staff, great food, classic Japanese accommodation with onsen, very nice place.

Very warming service, nice food and great location, tradional but very private room. They have private shower if you don't really want to have shower with other. They have car parking which is just opsite the accommodation. Free Wi-Fi and everything you need, highly recommended.

Amazing staff, so kind. I'm so sad I couldn't stay more days. All the place is amazing. They made us feel like family. What a nice memory of our trip. We'll miss you.

I could not be happier that we got to stay at Oyado Yamakyu for 2 nights. The staffs were very friendly and made special arrangements for us as we arrived the hotel late at night and checked out very early in the morning. They allowed us to have breakfast earlier than usual schedule and even sent us off at the bus terminal as they were afraid we would be late for the bus at 7:20 in the morning. The hotel is very clean and has a very nice onsen both indoor and outdoor. Breakfast at the hotel is served in a good portion and is very delicious!. I highly recommend this place for anyone who visits Takayama.

The staff was very friendly and English. Lots of antiques and stylish traditional design. Great tasty breakfast and good sleep.

It's the best Ryokan I could imagine. Perfect staff, the food is divine and very confortable.

Although it is a bed and breakfasts, but the dinner level is not at all high hotel, the room also has a certain quality, from the mountain Old Street walking less than 10 minutes, parking is also convenient, is a very good hotel.

The staff was very friendly and many were able to communicate in English, which was helpful. The food was delicious and the servings so generous we couldn't even finish all of our food. The futons were comfortable, and we appreciated having floor chairs with backs in the room as it is difficult for us westerners to sit without chair backs for too long. We also appreciated having a private toilet and sink. The baths were awesome and spa-like. The location was perfect. This was a great chance to experience a Japanese guesthouse with some western touches at a very reasonable price.

Good location with a nice easy walk to the city centre. Very friendly staff and the rooms are clean. Lovely public bath experience and the food is superb.

This lovely group of hosts give you just enough space, but also just the right guidance if you are a foreigner and new to Japanese customs. The accommodations were great and the meals were out of this world. It's located up near the hills from downtown, by a complex of shrines and temples with a great walking path connecting them.

Fantastic place. The food was worth travelling for and the staff were extremely friendly. We were lucky to get a room during the spring festival and that was great. The town was really nice but Yamakyu was the place that we will remember.

Very peaceful location. The staff all speak a good amount of english, and are very kind. You can expect amazing meals, the quality and quantity were way above my expectations. The baths were very clean, as were the rest of the facilities. Highly recommend this Ryokan.

The dinner was delicious. The hotel directory states the dinners are prepared by local mothers. I don't know if that's true but the dishes were made with love. We ate miso okra soup, rice, beef hotpot, local Japanese salad, shrimp and vegetable appetizers, a type of popover soup, Japanese pickles, sashimi, and cured fish. Breakfast was just as good and big and also highlighted local cuisine. Free coffee in the morning in their lounge! The baths are great. Dinner is eaten is a main dining area on tatami mats. The rooms are small but have private toilets and sinks. Highly recommend this place.

The room we had was facing the garden so away from the road. It was a good size but like all Japanese guest house be ready to hear your next door neighbour. The toilet are extremely noisy and woke me up at night when someone thought it was ok to flush it. The food was amazing. We had about 8 dishes which were all very tasty. The breakfast was also very good. There's a shuttle bus available 3 times a day but the place is about 10-15mins walk to the station.

Although it's one of the cheaper ryokans in the city, you wouldn't know it by the quality and service they give. Excellent service and good facilities for theie price. They have shuttles to and from the train station. Dinner was fantastic — — but beware, coming with an empty stomach is a must! Don't tempt yourself with eating some snacks leading up to the dinner, I promise you'll need the space in your stomach. Staff were all very friendly and many can speak English passably.

We had a wonderful short stay at the ryokan! The staff were very friendly & helpful, the staff came to meet us at at the station to pick up our luggages so we could explore Takayama town on foot, it was raining hard so she even brought along umbrellas for us to use! The room is warm and clean, we loved the public onsen and how they decorated the interiors, the glass-figure collection along the corridor was very interesting to see. And the traditional Japanese meals are just deliciously perfect! If we ever come back to Takayama, will definitely stay at Yamakyu~

Nice room with great staff that comes to make up the bedding. Great authentic Japanese dinner with many things to try. Located on the edge of town so make sure you catch their shuttle service from the train station.

An excellent ryokan with a great air. Nestled in a quiet spot in town, it's easily accessible. The baths are excellent and the food was wonderful. Had a wonderful time there!

Very nice, serene & relaxing hotel. Staff are very friendly. Hope to stay here again with my family. Kids will surely enjoy the place specially on snowy season.

Nice ryokan to experience traditional japanese room and the halfboard japanese traditional meals were impressive. We asked for non-beef options and we got a huge variety of seafood and fish dishes. Note that some rooms don't have a private shower, but the private/public hot spring baths are a nice typical way of enjoying the evening.
