Me and my bf stayed there for two nights in a Japanese style room. We went from Nagoya to Takayama by train and this took about 2hrs: it is quite long but the view of the mountains and rivers is just way too pretty! The ninja house is located around 20 mins walk from Takayama Station and we enjoyed the style of the old town all the way to the house. Ninja house only open at 3pm so please don't arrive there too early! Plenty of cute and small shops offering snacks or souvenirs, so do not miss it!
The staff was very friendly and helped us a lot by giving us good advices about the places we could visit: such as sake factories where tourist could taste and buy (local product), traditional houses, suggested some good restaurants and what are the local popular food (hida beef, soy sauce ramen). He gave us a map with all the important places and highlighted! Ninja house is a two floors house where on the first floor is the communal area (can find kotatsu, interesting books), toilet and bathroom. And on the second floor, there are the bedrooms.
Nice ninja house and is about 10mins walk to old town. It is not that far to go to anywhere! Will definitly go there again!

Wonderful place and the private baths were an amazing experience from the 13th floor overlooking the city (it's a no shoes hotel)

Disadvantages:
The rooms are crowded and the big bathising is a bit old.
Driving to encounter heavy rain, the parking lot of water is serious.
Advantages:
The hall has black bean tea and coffee, as well as origami supplies and books for children to play with.
Ramen is available on the second floor at night!
The room is well-sounded and quiet. Non-smoking floors are well isolated from smoking floors, and smoke-free.

Nice sized rooms. Onsen on the top floor. Breakfast is free but a little crowded. Wi-Fi is free but VERY slow. Good walking distance from other locations nearby. Would recommend if you don't mind bad Wi-Fi.

Modern, western Japanese style hot spring hotel. Except hot spring water bath at the rooftop (both shared and private bath available), there are foot bath outside the building, paid massage service, free noodle supper, and gift shop in the ground floor. Only slippers allowed beyond the reception. So guest needs to store their shoes at the locker on ground floor every time coming back. Restaurant and service: good as you would expect in JapanLocation : walking distance to train station and historical area Tips : guest who plan to travel by taxi should download apps before going as there is almost no available for hire taxi going around in town or major attractions.

Just stayed there for one night. To stay in this hotel, you have to take off your shoes and wear the slippers provided. Compact room and no free parking. However, the station is quite close to the hotel. Parking fee is 800 yen.

We stayed in Octavio’s Ninja House with our kids and really enjoied the authentic vibe and especially the hospitality of our Ninja host. We could not imagine a better place to stay in Takayama! Spacious room and walking distance to all major sights in the central part of old Takayama.

This hotel was a very nice experience but not perfect. It isn't new but very well kept, and has this beautiful merge of traditional and modern. The room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. I found the pillows a bit to flat though. The highlight is the onsen on the 13th floor. You get to bath while overlooking the city (real nice at night) and there are 3 private onsen baths (you can enter as a couple or a group). The staff was very friendly and spoke great English (one of them said he studied in the US). Breakfast was very generous with lots of dishes, most were tasty. I think the price is a bit high and that it's due for some remodeling, otherwise I'd give it a 5 star review.

Perfect for people who are not very alaise with nudity! Private natural water sources are available! But public water sources are also to be discovered for the more adventurous! At night: the starry sky, no one, good products provided, happiness and relaxation! I recommend it!

Rooms are large and comfortable, with three separate soups and large public baths to choose from, complimentary coffee and black bean tea in the afternoon, complimentary ramen noodles at 10:30 and a very happy stay.

Beautiful place. Private onsens are great for those who dont feel like going on the public ones.

We didn't end up going to the hotel because we had passport problems but the staff were so helpful and accommodating in changing our booking which we really appreciated at such short notice. Hopefully we can visit Takayama soon and enjoy a stay at Takayama Ouan.

Hotel location is good, 2 minutes away has been to the J R station, room clean, 13 floor hot spring can jump to the night view of Takayama City, Hot spring comfortable, hotel food is also in place, dinner Hida beef must not be small. The price is about 1000 Hong Kong dollars and about 1 people.

Beep! A real ryokan to discover Japan in "the little Kyoto of the Japanese Alps".

This is more a traditional Japanese hotel. The beds are nearly on the floor and shoes cannot be worn in the hotel. It's an experience all on its own but a worth while stay.

Disadvantage: Room too small booking triple room is with a Japanese-style bed is still relatively bad and not paved well also have to my own shop? (Come to Japan so many times this grade hotel also met for the first time, still say because full room so? ) Dinner is a semi-buffet style, but drinks (juice soda unexpectedly to add money, wine also said the past … but this price juice also add money? ), the restaurant is grill smoke very poor the whole restaurant is smoke. Please do not take a bath to eat the advantages: elegant rooms, close to the station convenient transportation, the meal is quite delicious shrimp.

Very good hotel. Good services. However the hotel was full, the breakfast arrangement was not optimal.

Solid 4*, the staff were polite I saw none of the attitude mentioned in other reviews. No shoes in the hotel is novel and not too troublesome. There are 3 really nice private onsens on the top floor as well as a stunning public bath. Rooms are small and 'traditional' which means low beds and a really uncomfortable desk chair, but it should be obvious from photos you're booking a more Japanese experience are here. All very clean. My one big gripe — no blackout curtains, I was awake at 5am every morning when the sun came up and didn't have an eye mask / struggle to sleep with one. The queue for the buffet at dinner can be pretty turtuous, I'd recommend eating out rather than paying for the in-hotel dinner. The laundry machines on the 13th floor are free to wash, 100Y to dry. Detergent is provided which was very useful. The in-hotel massage was just OK, for a 90 minute full body massage they insist on a 60 minute body / 30 minute head split, 30 minutes on your head can get pretty boring for both client and therapist!

The room was great and the rooms were spacious. The hot springs are great! Very large, bath supplies are very complete, but also the choice of different brands. There are also outdoor hot springs for personal use! Also accompanied by a lot of music can drink with the puzzle game can play. There is a place in the first floor hall where you can buy a hand gift. Dinner is 5000 yen per person (only tea does not contain other beverages), breakfast 1500 yen per person, are full, but eat not accustomed to Japanese-style dishes, the comparison suggested breakfast! Breakfast has fly Hida beef curry with fly Hida New Shouxi Burn! Make a lot of beef!

A wonderful restaurant, except the lobby, from stairs, elevators, walkways and room floors are laying tatami, so check in after the slippers, is a very special hotel, the location is very close to the Alpine station, the main scenic spots from the mountains can be reached, another private landscape soup house, is a recommended hotel. It is advisable to stay for one night if you have the chance.

Good onsen facility. Room is very very small and dusty. Toilet in room is quite smelly. Breakfast has variety of choice, tasty. Reception I met had poor english and had no service mind.

1 Parking 2 meal package accommodation 30, 002 Yen Two people. There is a personal soup house for 1 hours. 2 Coffee rolls for green coffee. And provide free snack ramen noodles. Nice service. Is that the dinner restaurant is barbecue smoke is very not excellent!

From the moment we checked in we noticed attitude from the front desk, they were not happy to see us and there was obvious resentment. I thought I was imagining things but during our time in the lobby I noticed this behavior with other guests. The common thread seemed to be that the westerns were treated badly and the locals were greeted with a higher level of respect, I noticed this behaviour with a few staff The hotel itself is great, baths are lovely, its a bit noisy on the train track earlier in the evenings but it does settle down… All it takes is one bad member of staff whom represent the business to ruin everything though. Later in the trip I asked if the reception would mind printing 1 page email bus ticket. I was informed it was impossible and they could not help… I thought it was a communication issue but it just more so seemed as I explained how basic the thing I was after was they just didnt want to help as they stood right next to a working printer…

The service is also good, the room is small, breakfast is general, morning Checkou T people have a long time elevator to wait, hot springs have more heavy bleach smell?

Near JR station, comfortable hot springs but smalland, the decoratings are full of Japanese style.

This hotel is a little expensive, but the lobby is very small, but there is a lot of hand-mail can buy YO! Enter the hotel need to take off your shoes, and then locked, staff uncle very enthusiastic to help me find the control of Japanese (keys and cabinets need to have corresponding Japanese words) I like them in the elevator shop tatami!

The top floor is a hot spring, the share of the small hot springs have three, evening after 8 o'clock a lot of people wait for a snack time has free ramen Oh! Finally, breakfast! The Japanese breakfast was not very suitable for me but looking out the window of the snow meal really too freehand (˶‾᷄⁻̫‾᷅˵)

Superior hotel with great views and plenty of restaurant and a mini supermarket.

This hotel is very clean and comfortable.
The staff is kind. Clean and comfortable spa hostel, breakfast is very diverse and hida beef can eat. Hotel Gate has enough soup to soak, the penthouse of the open-air hot spring is a must, overlooking the surrounding scenery, but after soaking in the hot springs without milk can drink, this is a bit of a pity. There is a free evening meal to enjoy.
Check-in words will give you a product discount coupon, during the evening to the first floor hall to buy can enjoy 90 percent discount, selling products are actually good, hit 90 percent down than the outside purchase is cheaper! This is very close to Takayama station, to go to the nearby Alpine Old Street is also very convenient, it is recommended to eat breakfast early to the nearby Chaoshi walk, there is an octopus cooked delicious.

Traditional meets modern culture. The hotel features traditional decor blended with modern amenities. Staff were in traditional attire, spoke English well and were very pleasant at all times. Shoes are only permitted in the lobby (you are assigned a shoe locker adjacent to the lobby) and it's socks or bare feet from there on. Many guests choose to wear the provided attire for their stay and do so when visiting the gift shop, restaurant or onsen. Prices are competitive or better than many in the area. A hotel experience I would take again.

The hotel has a renovation urgently necessary the mattresses in the room were not good we could barely sleep and in the morning everything hurt us (that not the first ryokan which was visited).
The breakfast was a cheekiness we had to wait about 40 minutes until we were even allowed into the room.
The breakfast offer was almost completely unpalatable. I can only recommend if at all this hotel to book without breakfast in takayama there are some cafes or bakeries that get this much better.
Now for the only positive: The onsen was really beautiful (that's why I awarded the second star) if even here and there ne small size could be made.
The city of takayama especially the old town are worth the trip to the place but definitely.

Very nice traditional Japanese hotel. Staff was very friendly. The room was comfortable although a bit too old fashioned for my taste. The breakfast is also Japanese style without many western options. There is a great public and private onsen. Nice option in Takayama. Staff is struggling to speak English and give you sightseeing tips. I also recommend to rent bycycles in a different cheaper place.

Nice hotel with a good location.

I had reserved a room at Takayama Ninja House, only to have to cancel on the day of the reservation as I was unable to make it due to typhoon 21. The owner was very understanding, initially making sure to keep the room for us even if we arrived in the evening. Eventually when we had to cancel and explain our situation, the owner nullified the cancellation fee, noting there was nothing we can do about the natural disaster. We were very grateful for this especially on such a stressful and difficult day. We definitely plan to stay at Takayama Ninja House next time we visit Japan!

The host was great and very responsive and helpful.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Takayama. Great facilities, good location and reasonably priced. Some have said the rooms are small, but I did not think mine was that small compared to other places I stayed in around Japan.

Was a nice hotel, very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and a good location. The three private onsen were a nice addition if traveling with a partner of the opposite sex or as a family as you get an onsen to yourself for a maximum of 30 minutes. There are two for couples and one for four people/a family. They also have free ramen between 10:30 and 11:30 at night which was nice. Oh and free Yakult outside the ones while you wait, which is surprising not very long. The only downside is that there were only two elevators and it was busy so the lobby was at times chaotic and the wait for the elevators could be long. Also everyone ends up wearing the clothes provided which have it a funny cult-like feel, which was quite hilarious. Worth just experiencing that and the onsen of nothing else. Overall a nice stay, recommended.

Very clean and tidy. Quality japanese style rooms. Free of charge onsen facilities. And free ramen provided for every customers at 1030 pm to1140 pm.

My favorite hotel in takayama. Actually they have heaps of "free" stuff. We can use private onsen so we didn't need to worry about tattoo. Breakfast and ramen in midnight were awesome. Definitely I'll come back!

Loved the character of the home, super clean (rooms were cleaned while we were visiting, bathrooms were frequently cleaned). We stayed I the quadruple room (the kids loved the bunked beds). The room was spacious and clean, air conditioning working well. The host, Octavio was amazing. He speaks excellent English and Spanish. He picked us up and dropped us up from the station. Location is about 10 minutes walk (when walking with 2 youngs kids, it would be a lot faster for those walking without kids). The bath was amazing. The kids loved their bath. You can lock the bathroom for privacy. We shared the bath/toilet with the rest of the house but it was never a problem. The toilet was on the first floor and the bedroom on the second floor. The kids loved that we were going to sleep at a Ninja's house. The stairs to go up and down were a little steep, but it added to the fun for the kids.

Helpful and welcoming host, nice Ryokan rooms. Shared shower and toilett. 15 minute walk from main station. You may ask the host to give you a ride.

In addition to the price of a little hotel as a whole is not bad, the mountains stand out to the right to see the location is very good.
The hotel is fully paved with tatami, the room is comfortable evening free night snack noodles unexpectedly delicious.
Free-pay personal wind LV is very good but unfortunately there is a smell of disinfectant, restaurants near the restaurant is not a lot of suggestions can not have a second eat this will save a lot of money.

Great hotel, reasonably priced. Rooms are small by western standards, but plenty of room. Most importantly, the air con works great after a hot, sweaty stroll thru the merchant district. Breakfast buffet was outstanding and had a full array of western and local dishes.

Real ninja house with true ninja-host. Clean, superb rooms, great atmosphere. Thumbs up and big recommend!

Great Japanese inn. Friendly staff, trying their best to help. Beautiful onsen with a great look over the city and at the mountains. Only a few minutes away from the train and bus station.

Excellent hotel for Vositar Takayama and escape to Shirakawago.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms very nice and they are traditional Japanese and large.
Although it is very expensive it is worth it. The hotel is extremely nice, Cercs from the station and at the entrance has an onsen for feet.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ninja house. The room is really big and the bedding is comfortable. Octavius is a great host full of knowledge and helpful. Excellent location everything we wanted to do or view is easy walking distance. Great vaule also.

Perfect location right at the train station. Rooms wonderful Japanese indeed-Ami floors designed (leaving the shoes in the lobby! ). Up in the top floor of a very hot Onsen (no idea how long you want to hold that out). Beds very hard.

Great location and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend based on my experience. They were very accommodating of my request and the place has a great ambiance. The rooms were immaculate and service was superb.

Really amazing! I love to walk bare feet and this hotel is the only one that fits my need. No flea is in the hotel, probably beacuase of the banning of shoes and slippers.

Fantastic ryokan / hotel! Staff speaks limited English but service is excellent. There are private and public bath houses overlooking the city. Japanese breakfast includes traditional Takayama food.
