Review of Hotel Modern Est 2*

The good: Very clean rooms Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable reception staff Nearest Metro 15 min walk away (Convention) Not a touristy area (the real locals Paris) Friendly locals Felt safe at night Great selection of restaurants within walking distance to suit every taste and budget The bad: Room 401 was very small, thin walled & right next to stairs (could hear everything) Breakfast was self service (cook your own eggs, toast etc) Breakfast waitress was unhelpful and a little rude You have to pay for a refill of tea & coffee for your room In the bigger picture you can see that the positives outweigh the negatives, and for the price we paid to be in Paris my wife and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is on a budget and doesn't mind walking a little and we are sure that these little negatives can be easily smoothed out and we would be happy to return to Hotel Moderne in the near future. The recommend: Trying a pizza at the local pizza restaurant — just a few doors away from the hotel, traditional (Italian) stone baked pizza's and very friendly, courteous staff. The restaurant to look at is nothing special but the food is delicious! REMEMBER! We only found out on our last meal out, but when you receive a bill you will find a breakdown of VAT and service charge added which is always combined within the price of the meal — So if you wish to leave a tip then as we were told this is an added bonus to the already existing hidden service charge, so maybe 1-3 euros should suffice.
