Nice and friendly. Good food our only complaint was that the room we had was really small and compact with hardly any room to get in and out of bed. Apart from that a really nice hotel and staff.

Quiet little hotel close to pretty much everything in the downtown core.

Spent 10 days here on a sporting holiday. Room more than adequate and the service was excellent. Special mention to Akane & Tatiana for their friendly and efficient breakfast service and their advice of things to see and do it Toronto.

Had a lot of anxiety checking in as i’ve never booked a hotel before & it was my birthday. Walid was more then amazing at the front desk. Upgraded me from a standard room to an executive suit free of charge and checked me in early. The room was the perfect size for me and my friend for the 3 days on a long a weekend. Everyone at the downstairs bar was great as well, sean was my main highlight. Highly recommend this place for a stay. Super close to everything as well. Deff will stay here again when i’m back in toronto.

This is my go-to hotel in Toronto. Simple. Small rooms. Cosy. Great bar downstairs. Beautifully renovated as redecorated. No hassle. No noisy guests.

This is such a cute modernly upgraded hotel! Tried to find a reasonably priced hotel in downtown Toronto to be able to walk to after a concert that was close to main artery of public transportation and close to work! Make sure you ask about where to park cause we got dinged for 2 days because we parked overnight. Would definitely stay again.

My friend and I stayed the night at The Strathcona Hotel after a concert at the Rogers centre. The hotel is in a great location — just a few minutes walk from the stadium and a bunch of resturaunts. The hotel is beautifully decorated and although the rooms are smaller than a typical hotel they were very clean. Our only complaints would be that the bathroom didn't have a fan, we were only given one full towel and the room seemed much colder than the thermostat read. Overall, our stay was pleasant and we would stay again if we needed a hotel in Toronto for a night.

I stay here last weekend, for the Caribana Fest! The rooms are the tiniest rooms ever! The rooms are not worth the high prices. The beds are incredibly not comfortable! The room was semi-clean! I feel like a 30 year old abroad student coming to the smallest dorm ever! The staff is the only reason why I gave this hotel 2 stars instead of 1 star. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The bar in the basement had good food and the Bartender Ed was nice too. Next trip to Toronto, I will not be staying here!

Very clean hotel. Breakfast was very expensive and we had to eat lunch and dinner out they don’t have a wide selection. Tim Hortons across the street and other restaurants very close by. Love how it’s located right in the heart of downtown walking distance to a lot of of tourist attractions.

Was a good stay. Clean, good customer service. Only gripe was that the rooms windows were locked shut entirely. No screen or anyway to even crack the window. I would have enjoyed some fresh air. Great otherwise.

The Strathcona Hotel was an unexpected surprise. If you’ve read other reviews, yes the rooms are small, but it is a clean, safe, hospitable, centrally located, nicely decorated, and affordable place to stay in the heart of Toronto. Check out the breakfast buffet. I was surprised by the variety of choices on the buffet. When I stayed it was during the week and the buffet was $19.99/person. I think it is well worth it for downtown Toronto prices. The wait staff are engaging, attentive, and pleasant. The food is great! Feels like high quality food.

The hotel is located right downtown therefore they charge fortune to stay there. That's understandable but the rooms are very small, you can feel every spring in the bed, the mini fridge is even smaller than a regular mini fridge no microwave in the room and the street noise, I understand it is downtown, but it was extremely loud during all hours of the night. During our stay the hot water tank for the entire hotel broke. After 12hrs of zero hot water they said they finally had someone come in and that the hot water would be working shortly. Another 4 hours later we finally had warm water. To "make me happy" about not being able to have a shower without freezing water for an entire day the best they could offer was $20 off my stay. I will not return to this hotel.

The room and bathroom were smaller than I expected and the room service menu is minimal. The house keeper was lovely. Robert at the front desk knew the TTC expertly and insisted we use it instead of taxi or Uber. Thank you Robert! The breakfast buffet is fabulous! Not your typical buffet, it is very healthy and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. The pub food is very good and I suggest if you order the nachos to be prepared for a small mountain of food!

Highlights: affordable, less than 5 min walk from Union Station, close to major Toronto attractions. First time stay, wasn't quite sure what to expect. Upon entry I was greated by the front desk they were friendly, and resourceful. Reviews suggested hotel to be 3-stars so don't expect anything to fancy.

This place is awful, very noisy (heating system) and basic service.

Small rooms but location is great for visiting downtown. Service desk is very pleasant to deal with. Unfortunately there's not great soundproofing between rooms. If you're a light sleeper you'll be woken up almost everytime someone leaves their room.

I've been to this hotel twice, both times for Nuit Blanche. It's in the heart of Toronto so it was perfect for walking around then going back for a break. The walls are very thin and you have to sign a paper saying you'll be quiet which is fine. The rooms are small! They looks bigger in the pictures so don't be shocked when you get your room. The staff is nice and friendly and get things done quickly.

The hotel has a very European feel, and is a great place to stay for business travelers on the go. The rooms are compact, but offer enough space to move around, and the beds are fairly comfortable. The hotel offers wall dispensers for bathing amenities, such as hair product and lotion, which is definitely a first for me, and the product provided works well if you don't want to use your own care supplies. The staff is also quite friendly, and while the restaurant downstairs is somewhat pricy, the quality of the food is fairly good relatively speaking. The only downsides of the hotel are that the walls seem fairly thin, meaning you can often hear people moving about the halls later in the evening, and there was an odd drip from my bathroom ceiling on the second day, though it resolved itself fairly quickly.

The smallest hotel room I have ever seen, barely big enough for a queen size bed. The washroom is so small there is no place to put even a small toiletries bag. Bed is comfortable enough. It's clean. Way too expensive for the size of the room. Internet is so slow even simple web pages do not load. Not acceptable.

The rooms are very small but the beds are super comfy! This being my second stay at the Strathcona, I was aware that the walls are thin and was pleased they have implemented a no noise policy. Unfortunately the people across the hall didn't get the memo! Disruptive at midnight and again at 5am. Not impressed to say the least but was very impressed by the response from the clerk at the desk! Kind, courteous and dealt with the problem immediately. Job well done, Denver.

It was very close to the city centre and all the attractions. Rooms always clean and staff really helpful.

The room itself was mostly clean but rather small. Little room for two suitcases along with a queen-size bed. The hotel seems to have a minor issue with dust mites. Very few overnight staff if you need anything like towels or silverware. Cleaning staff seemed to disregard the privacy notice on the door. Our wake-up call appeared to have been directed to another room. The building is H-shaped so your window will likely face another room's window. Our room did not have a proper desk, instead a bench with stool. Not the greatest hotel, but due to the location will always remain in business and profitable.

Good value, fair price, great location — what more do people want for the money? I'm really surprised at some of the reviews. I stay downtown at least 2 times a month for work and have stayed at all the major hotel chains, from the pricey $500-$1000 a night ones down to the budget hotels. This week I waited too late and didn't want to book an outrageously expense room at nearby 4&5 star options who were price gouging, so I booked for $149 at Strathcona. For the price, it far exceeded my expectations. It was clean, employees were polite and I had no issues. I'm quite certain the reviewers on here that feel like it was too small or didn't have enough amenities really don't understand downtown Toronto hotel pricing. Again — for the money, and in comparison to nearby options, this was great value. If you're on a moderate budget — this is a great place. If you really want full service, full amenities and large room, expect to pay more than twice as much at the nearby 4 and 5 star hotels. Will stay here again and will recommend to family and friends.

Stayed the weekend to be close to transport and the arena for a concert — which are very easy to walk to, even in — 30°C temps. This hotel looks very nice when you first walk in, though the room we stayed in was sort of cramped to accommodate 2 beds. They've had some updates, the shower is nice despite the tub not being very deep. The front desk people were very nice, it was very easy to arrange a taxi. However, the nearness and ease of public transport made it more than easy enough to traipse around without taxis. There are shops nearby, a mall, 3 Tim's & 3 Starbucks. I didn't use any of the hotel's amenities, the pub seemed popular but the hotel, itself, was quiet despite being on a busy street.

We had an issue with booking a room online with a king size bed, but when we got to the hotel the staff instantly helped us book a room. They couldn't get us a king, so they gave us a queen and upgraded the room. All staff was super friendly and very helpful! We will definitely be back.

Over priced for the type of room you get. You can get rooms 1.5 times the size in downtown Toronto for the same price. Rooms are tiny. Hotel room door struggles to open. Bathroom door does not even open fully due to how small the bathroom is the towel rail stops it approximately 3/4 of the way. Staff is pretty friendly but quite clueless. Called to ask how this safe works in the room as it does not seem to work as the usual ones, and she informed me there aren't safes in the rooms. When I said yes there is she was like "oh really? ". Parking situation is not bad also parking garage is right beside hotel. Valet is tad bit expensive for this type of hotel at $39 a day. Not the worst hotel I have stayed in but definitely wouldn't stay here unless the price drops by at least 30% to reflect what you are getting. Definitely do not be fooled by the photos provided online. Check the square footage as the pictures of this hotel are very deceiving.

Downtown Toronto in the heart of it all. Walking distance to all amenities, CN tower, AC center, Union station, Hockey Hall of Fame, eateries and shopping. 24hr Tim Horton across the street. Rooms equipped with with all essentials and very clean. Cons include: Very very small rooms but on point for downtown Toronto prices, no fitness room and no pool (They do have Life Fitness close by) and no shuttle.
Reception staff was helpful.

Very nice hotel for the money, with a great location. Can be a bit loud, but I'm a sound sleeper. Rooms are basic, but fine if you just need a night's rest.

The hotel is very clean and modern looking. The staff was incredibly courteous and very pleasant. The lobby is a little small but was beautifully decorated. Overall I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Very convenient location, directly downtown and very close to Billy Bishop airport. The double room was small, however it had everything required for a comfortable stay. Television, coffee maker, etc. The Wi-Fi was very slow with very poor signal rendering it useless at most times. That being said, I would definitely stay there again.

Reservation was cancelled without notice. Front desk helpful in finding a room, but ended up with a single, uncomfortable bed. Room was basic and fine. No perk or price reduction from confusion and downgrade in my room. Location is key, but lots of other options. Wouldn't go again.

A good budget place if you are passing through Toronto. I was there for business, thus it did not suit my needs. Internet is good for checking email, but nothing else. Rooms are small, entrance door is 3ft from the bed. Iron is of a food quality compared to the shirts I am ironing. I had to ask for a bar of soap. Little things but the add up. It was clean, and that's always good. Also, efficient with wake-up calls.

The hotel is right downtown which is convenient for getting around. They do not have their own parking lot or garage but they have a list of nearby parking facilities on their website. The room was small but comfortable. Unfortunately we ended up in a room near a stairwell and were awoken at night by the door slamming. The rate was reasonable but we did book at a discount as part of a larger group. All in all, not a bad stay but nothing special.

Rooms are very small. The shower are very short and you not accommodate for tall individuals. The floor is being Hardwood or laminate make for very noisy interaction between rooms. And the front desk staff and waiters and waitresses in the restaurants in the lobby are not very personable. However the cleaning staff for the rooms works very hard to maintain cleanliness and are very pleasant. On a side note it would be nice if they had actual bars of soap for showering and bathing.

This was my second time staying at the Strathcona Hotel and I had a great experience again! The rooms are small but very clean and modern. The location is perfect! Your close to everything… Definitely will be staying there again!

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. A little small for the rate but it's downtown Toronto so you can't expect huge rooms. Staff was funny and nice and you can't beat the location. Definitely a good option for a visit to the city!

Not happy with the front desk staff! Second time there and with a credit card I was told that they needed to add the security deposit. I told them my understanding according to my email. It was only for cash paying customers. They also said it was 150 not 100. He even asked if I travel much because my card wasn't going through. "This is my second time here. " I replied. At checkout I asked the female employee again why the deposit with a credit card. She said because they want all hotels to do this too. She said they charge all hotel guests the security. I told her to get the 150 changed to 100 on website. She said the mangers have to change it as they can't. I said it has been 2 years since I last was here and it should not take that long, just change it. Not happy with the mixed explanations of charging security with a credit card!

Very good location but definitely too small rooms.

The hotel is clean, the workers are all friendly. The issue with this place are the rooms. Here are a few things that make this hotel extremely over priced: 1. The air condition is very loud in the bedroom. 2. There is always light in the bedroom even when it's dark. Even when the door is closed, the light from the hallway comes in. 3. When someone takes a shower above you, you'll hear the pipes make weird noises. 4. No soundproof. We heard everything going on around us in the hallway and other rooms other than that, the location was close to union station so it was a good choice. But we won't stay here again based on those shortcomings.

Pros: location was awesome. Liked the laminate flooring instead of carpet. Check-in and out was easy. Liked the room layout. Lots of lighting options. Cons: thin doors and walls (loud drunk people in the hall at 2am). Bathrooms could use some updating. Air circulation isn't great… the air conditioners worked awesome but as soon as it shut off it got hot and muggy fast. BIG con was that our top sheet had gross stains or dirty still.

Great hotel, close to the port and also to the city center. Clean rooms although not overly spacious. Wi-Fi and paid parking.

I had a room at the end of the hall on the 4th floor. The view was ok and the room was nice and clean. Also it was pretty quiet for being right down in Toronto. It was a nice stay.

The hotel was very well organized and efficient. The location was great (60 York St) for us because it was in the heart of downtown Toronto and everything went smoothly. The only surprise was that the maid did not redo or clean our room.

I booked a groupon with the Strathcona hotel York St Cafe (cafe in the hotel). When I called the number on the groupon, it was the hotel line — hotel reservation guy named DAVID was a big douche and kept telling me I had the wrong address even though it's literally in his hotel. Hotel website was no help as it doesn't even mention the York Street Cafe restaurant although apparently they figured it was ok to sell Groupons for it? No other contact info provided on website other than my BFF David's.

1/5 POOR. Never going back to this place they call a hotel. When it was really just a "HOLE". Stayed here in September 2015 for a last minute trip as there were no other vacancies downtown due to the bluejays game/comic expo. Huge regret! CONS: Super small room with two SINGLE beds that reminded me of a dorm. Loved the great view out the windows that were covered by wooden shutters that opened to a concrete wall of a neighbouring building. Air conditioner was outdated and very loud. Discovered mold on the bathroom ceiling above the bathtub/shower (probably because there was no vent/fan in the bathroom? Wtf? ). Worst front desk staff and poor customer service from the ASSistant manager. He was literally just an ASS. Noticed the lobby had shelves and furniture from ikea. No hotel parking or valet, just public self parking that can cost up to $50/night, which is what the going rate of this disappointment of a "hotel" should be priced at. PROS: Only had to stay one night. Tim Hortons across the street. TIPS: You should definitely stay here if you like feeling claustrophobic and want to sleep in a room with paper thin walls where you can hear the guy next door coughing out phlegm all night; not to mention you can hear every door being shut on your floor. Sweet dreams. (Also informed the front desk the following morning about the mold but she didn't seem care. Shocker. )

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at the Strathcona and it was very nice. We had the King Executive and it was a nice size. Everything was very clean and the staff were super helpful.

Nice but small guest room. No desk provided. Some Street noise experienced early morning and late night. No serious complaints. Would stay again.

Budget friendly place to stay downtown. An especially nice spot if attending an event at the Toronto convention centre as it is so close. Clean rooms, friendly staff. Only complaint is that the cable in the rooms is very poor but, your in Toronto, why watch TV when there is so much else to see and do?

The prices are right and the rooms are clean but very small. It is worth while spending a little extra to get one of their larger rooms. They don't have gym but have a special rate with a gym close by.

The location of this hotel is in a great location. It is close to Union Station and there are many restaurants close by. The rooms however are quite small. There is enough room for the bed and to move around the bed. Service is great.

Rooms are very small for the price you pay. Parking is expensive and a bit inconvenient. Costs add up i. E. Internet, fridges, etc. Bed was comfortable. Credit card was charged without notice, unlike other hotels when charged at check out. Booked online for a discounted rate, found out credit card was charged $123 extra. Staff is friendly but wouldn't be first choice for stay. Wouldn't visit again.

Great hotel in the heart of the financial district of Toronto. Very close to the main train station and quiet at night. No free Wi-Fi is the only let down.

Great location. Clean, small but efficient rooms. Staff alright. Stayed 3 nights, rent shot up by $20 for the 2nd and 3rd night. They said the rates change, which was weird.

By far the worst hotel I ever stayed it. As a frequent traveler. I would NOT suggest this hotel. They made check in a pain in the a** for everyone the minute we got there. They started charging us extra fees for EXTRA services we never even planned on using then proceeded to tell us we would receive a refund in 7 days. Once we made it to our room, we recieved a knock on the door from a employee who looked into our room and walked away and said "just checking something". Who does that without explaining what they were doing? A few moments later the same employee knocked on the door again and proceeded to tell us we were being checked for a "noise complaint" need I mention we literally just got into our room and we were being respectful and quiet the minute we got there. All night there was noise from our floor and someone even knocked on our door at 4 a. M. This hotel was absolutely horrible and madeven our experience hell. I would NOT suggest this hotel EVER.

Very good experience staying at the hotel. Rooms are small and few amenities but it's relatively cheap to stay for such a great location.

Small but clean room. Great location. Computers for use in the lobby area are a joke; old computers with a very slow connection. No bell boys, so you have to take care of all of your luggage on your own. Walls are thin/rooms are not sound proof; I could hear the people next door running the shower and talking.

The service staff was very nice. The front desk was not equipped to handle the volume of people in town for various events. Their system went down for hours and they told customers it was their cards, they ran out of towels, and there is no Free Wi-Fi which is usually a standard for hotels in the downtown area. Our room keys had stopped working several times. It was in the great of transportation, across from Union Station and next to the municipal parking deck.

Great location. Just slightly smaller than I expected. But it was fine.

Not happy! The place was ok for the price however I just found out that they charged my credit card even though I paid cash debit at check out. And then when I phoned to find out what happened, they wanted to put me on hold I said I was calling on a cell, long distance. OK, call back in 15 mins! Gee thanks I was ready to book for another visit in May, but Toronto is big enough, I'm sure we'll find something else.

Really clean and nice hotel. Downtown toronto. Easy access to everything you will need while in the city. Hotel is right in front of Tim Hortons. The service was awesome. We rented a room for 3 days and let me tell you it was above my expectations for the low priced we paid.

Best location, comfy and clean. I stay for business and play — conventions and weekend events and adventures. It's our first choice.

Reasonably priced hotel in the center of Toronto. My room was a bit tight, especially the bath, but it was all usable. Everything was clean and it seemed like the whole hotel had been remodeled recently. The hardwood floors in the rooms are a nice touch and much better than nasty carpets, but they do seem to make noises carry from the halls and nearby rooms. Staff was not super friendly but they filled all requests. All in all, not bad.

So first off, I would like to say that my stay was AWESOME! Unfortunately the night staff was quite rude when I tried to call and confirm that my reservation was still good; they hung up on me twice. BUT everything else was perfect. We came an went as we pleased, got an early check-in and got fast delivered pizza from an awesome Domino's guy. The bathroom needs a little work — the lights flickere and the tap "hot and/or cold" indicators are wrong but that was all good! With love from room 1110.

I stayed there with 2 friends mid June and really liked it! Our room was spacious and modern, hard wood floors and really comfy beds! It was clean and bright and the location was perfect for our purposes. I am a very light sleeper and didn't hear noise from anyone else's room or doors opening and closing. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
