Like a big family, best place for students!

Staff friendly, helpful. One of them carried my 19kg bag up steps to the second floor when I checked in. Balcony views good. The outside bar area is cool, as is the massive big screen TV nearby. Pool for summer. Kitchen area functional although a bit small. Some good couches in the living areas. Board games. Coffee machine. Washing machines. Tour info. Windows in my dorm open.

Great place to stay, we stayed one night and it was clean, staff were very very friendly!

They took the whole payment out when I booked, gave them enough notice to cancel and was happy to lose a deposit. But they refuse and and never got back to me!

The Aquarius Backpackers What can I say. It is a special place. It’s sole purpose is to try and provide a safe and family type atmosphere at a reasonable price, for kids on their life’s journey. I’ve shared, at the large dining table, many share meals, with people contributing meals from their countries. This environment lead to many kids networking with each other. Obtaining housing and jobs with each other’s support. Not to mention Jacks Spot, the cheapest drinks in town and in a guest only environment. Literally across the street from Southport South Tram stop. Literally minutes to where ever you want to be in the general Gold Coast area. Just come in with a smile, take your face out of your phone and meet people from all over the world. A room is just a room, it’s about the people around you.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I had a great experience. John and Kate and all staff were super friendly and welcoming and the hostel was always clean. I can't wait to come back!

Managment and staff are liars. And will not refund me weeks after they have rectified what was missing on theyre website in regards of reception open hours and cancelation refunds.

This place is great for a stop over, awesome friendly staff and great service. Close to shops and transport, and enjoy meeting new people. Thanks to John and Kate.

It is OK for the price they charge and if you book it with little time in advance, but the location is far from the center (1 hour walking) Yes or if you have to take a tram.

Great place to stay near a lot of restaurants, market, tram and bus station, shopping centers etc. The staff is lovely, the facilities are cozy and friendly. Kitchen time seems a bit restricted though.

Ive stayed in quite a few hostels, and unfortunately this one was the worst to sleep in. Checked online at reviews and place seemed alright, but then I realized when I got there that you got free unlimited Wi-Fi if you reviewed them which is why it was so biased. No air conditioning, the room was SO hot and the hostel was considerably hot also. They do have windows and two fans in each room but this does not help. Another thing I saw here and there in reviews was about bed bugs. I didn't personally have any problems but they do state on the doors that they have had bed bugs and they aren't responsible if you get bitten. The place itself is alright and decently clean, the staff is friendly but not worth it for the few hours of sleep my partner and I got.

My Partner and I stayed here for 4 nights over New Years. We loved it! The facilities are well kept and always clean. Great pool & Spa. Cool little bar with reasonably priced drinks and a very comfortable living area were you can chill out and watch the sports or a movie. This place is very homey and really chilled out but the main reason we thought this hostel was so amazing was the staff. They were welcoming, very helpful and enjoyable to be around. John, one of the staff members, is an asset to Aquarius and injects the hostel with a burst of FUN! Thanks for an amazing few days guys! xox.

One of the best hostels I've been to great staff always smiling was in a group of twelve people all enjoyed it and we WlLL BE BACK … THIS hostel has everything and is so clean … a must stay.

Very clean, quiet. Great pool. Staff very accommodating, friendly. Definitely not a crash, party place. Tram across the road, close to amenities. Cleanest place I've stayed in for a long time. Definitely stay again… Cheers.

The staff were fantastic, helpful and very very friendly. Place was very clean with well kept facilities and a sick TV room. The place is in a great location and fantastic value for money. The only beef I had with the place was that the mattresses on the beds were a little thin, and I had to grab an extra one from an empty bed in my room to make the bed more comfortable. Apart from that one small problem, the place was perfect.

Wifi doesn't work. One toilet per floor. It's a very average hostel.

I had a great time staying here overnight. I wish I could have stayed longer. Very clean facilities, coin operated washing machines. Bar near the pool with happy hours. Just a fun, relaxed place to stay — and CHEAP!

Terrible place. Bed bugs. Noisy rooms. Dirty Close to a shopping centre but I wouldn't go walking around there at night. Very dodgy area. Please be safe and go as a group. Only stayed one night as an emergency. And I regret it. I woke up covered in bed bug bites that lasted for over a week. There was a cockroach when I woke up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. The rooms were super thin and so noisy and the bathrooms were disgusting. I really can't think of anything good about this place except 2 out of the 3 staff I met were good. Never again!

By far the best place to stay! Super clean, comfy beds, big kitchen, and all the good stuff. Came back to Aquarius because of how great it was. Especially the amazing staff who made the stay even better. Right next to Southport South St. Absolutely love Aquarius Backpackers. They've got different activities every day which you can participate in and get to know other guests and have fun. Only reason you shouldn't stay here is if you hate life and don't want the best experience in Gold Coast.

Such a great hostel. Friendly staff that are super helpful it's almost like they are concierge. Very clean and stocked. One of the few hostels recently that had reliable supply of soap in the toilets! Wish I stayed longer.

After a stressful morning due to a mix up with our original hostel we were lucky to get a space in this lovely place. The manager on reception was welcoming, friendly and gave us time to cool off with a cold drink before checking us in.
We were given a tour of the hostel, told about local transport, dining and nightlife while other members of staff carried our bags up to our rooms!
The hostel is a lovely clean place with great facilities. Most of all the amazing staff are what make this place a great spot to stay, the welcome made my friend and I feel so much more relaxed after our stressful morning! Highly recommend it :)

Nice helpful friendly people felt so welcome, the manager was so full of local knowledge I felt like it was the best value for money in the whole of the Gold Coast.

Rats running around in our room at night and scratching in walls. Pungent smell in the room and fleas/ bugs of some sort made it hard to sleep first night. No customer service here, when issues were raised at reception was told if you don't like it then leave. When we asked for a refund staff refused. I asked for their manager who advised it was against their policy to refund without at least a weeks notice so if we didn't like it we could leave but they would not be issuing a refund. Words can't describe how rude staff and the manager were. We were left in reception where they refused to discuss the matter further and ignored us. After it was clear we would not be refunded and further attempts to resolve it may result in a free night of accommodation at the police station, we decided to leave the backpackers one day into our week long booking. Found a slightly pricier place but it was well worth it to not have to put up with another night of hell or with staff that clearly should be working away from any field of work that involves customers.

Low rates, but need improvement.

Stayed here for several weeks earlier this year. THE GOOD Lovely airy rooms and a nice balcony with hammocks. Very good location and close to the beach. The bar is relatively cheap and social. There's also free jungle juice on arrival (which is disgusting) Steaks for only $10 that taste good. Sven the chef is lovely (although don't tell him this). He also isn't called Sven. The staff are friendly (well except for one or two of the receptionists, no names mentioned! ) The staff try and keep you in the same room if you extend which is nice THE BAD There is a large theft problem. I had my Ray Bans stolen and had stuff stolen from the fridge several times. I even had my toothbrush stolen one night, and my wet swimming shorts. WHY?! The Wi-Fi is expensive and very poor The fridge is terrible and needs replacing / needs extra storage. Things often get broken, moved or stolen. The kitchen needs more new equipment / a refurbishment Things that are broken often take a while to fix (kitchen hobs, hammocks, bathroom doors) Byron Bay is the most beautiful place in the world, so remember — don't be a dick!

Stayed 1 night in December 2013. Positives: Room/bed was clean and comfortable. Despite no aircon, there was a fan in the room which kept it from becoming stuffy and allowed a decent nights sleep. The bathroom was clean with a good shower. The staff were friendly and helpful — they were happy for me to leave my bag in the office after checking out, and even offered me a lift into Surfers when I went to pick up my bag. Great service! Negative: Location. Not the hostel's fault, but Southport doesn't really have much going for it. There's a good pub next door which provided a pretty decent meal and the Australia Fair shopping centre is only 5 minutes walk away, but that's about all. It is, however, close to bus routes (buses run 24/7) and the tram/light rail (still under construction). Aquarius is a great hostel and I highly recommend it.

Worst service I have ever seen. Staff at desk unhelpful rude and unfriendly. They kept $90 of my money and refused to give it back I received nothing for my money. It is in a very noisy position near road works. I would advise not to stay here if you want a happy stay don't pick this place.

Why I give the poor because, 1. They have not told us we cannot drink our own beer before we paying cash, we bought a lot previously. We have to buy their beer if we want to drink there. 2. They did not give our money back even we havenot seen the room 3. The beds are realy crude and ugly 4. They were not friendly when we wanted our money back, and said we cannot give a review without booking online.

Very happy to have found this great lil backpackers. I will be back if needed for sure.
