Crazy busy. Awesome staff… Marian is wonderful. Rooms not bad.

Great location. Value for money. Can be more hygiene especially the common areas. Common restrooms are pathetic. Wi-Fi sucks.

Falsely advertised. Had shiny new beds/rooms in pictures on booking website. Got taken to an old room that was very very mouldy and smelled rank. Complained and they happily loved us to another room which was newer. woke up the next morning with bed bugs bites all over my arms legs and neck area. Don't stay here, terrible experince — days later i'm still suffering from the hurrendous numbers of bites on my body. Got a full refund no questions asked — they must know they have bed bugs for no questions to be asked. Total bulls**t!

This is definitely the worst experience with an accommodation in my whole life! The hostel is extremely dirty, the people (guests + reception) were unfriendly and pretty strange… There was a security guy entering my room at 2:00am because it was unclear who's already checked out and who stayed there kind of illegally in the 6-bed dorm. Since the room has no windows, there's no fresh air, not to mention natural light at any time. I booked 3 nights but after 2 awful nights I left this accommodation and took the bus to Brisbane. Seriously, my seat in the bus was much more comfortable than the bed at the hostel. I can just recommend not to be naive and not to ignore the bad reviews (like I did) and be careful.

Worst hostel I've been to. 1. Room was smelly and really run down and I had to ask multiple times for it to be cleaned (it never was) 2. Some of my food and alcohol was STOLEN from the communal area and when I told front desk they said "Ya, drunk backpackers will do that" 3. No electrical outlets near my bed or even on my side of the room 4. They overbooked my room so I had to wait an hour for them to sort it out and let me into my room. 5. The kitchen and communal spaces were always cramped and extremely warm due to everyone cooking. (and only half of the kitchen burners work) 6. Only one elevator works, which means waiting for the elevator to go up and down 12 or so stories in the evening takes forever. Good location. That's it. Just seems like nobody cares at this hostel.

4 washing machines, 2 working driers. Laundry and drier is $5 each per use and Wi-Fi is $12 a week. 12 gas heaters in the kitchen (gas plates for cooking), probably at least half of them doesn't work. We have a problem in our room, a leaking AC making the floor wet. Reception has been told several times but they are doing nothing about it. I assume they are gonna renovate the place so they are trying to save money, but if they don't do anything about it they are probably going to have a problem with mold sooner or later, so they really are just making it worse for themselves. We basically have the possibility to change room whenever we want because of this if we want though, I just haven't done it because I am too lazy to move all my things. I am giving the hostel 2 stars because at least I haven't experienced any problems with bed bugs, which from my understanding is a problem in many cheap hostels. I think you get less than what you pay for but it's livable.

Party hostel, more for the younger generation. Very noisy and dirty.

Dirty. Cockroaches, bed bugs, most outlets don't work. Ended up having to charge my phone in bathroom. No Wi-Fi in room & barely works downstairs in the nasty dining room/lounge area. I didnt use the blanket since it was so dirty looking. No air conditioning. Entrance was horrible. Attracts a lot of dirty types of people. Just don't stay here. It's worth spending extra $ for probably anywhere else in Sydney.

Westend is the best place to stay in Sydney! My favourite hostel in Australia. Great location and amazing atmosphere. The people you meet are amazing and so are the staff! Everyone is really helpful and friendly. It is recently being renovated and the new look kitchen/living area looks awesome. Free pancakes on the weekend and free entry plus a free drink to a different bar every night! Really fun day activities as well especially the beach BBQs which get everybody involved. If you're a backpacker looking for an unforgettable experience where you can meet the best people, stay here!

I had so much fun in this hostel! The staff is really great and the bedroom are fine. Normally I had booked for 1week but I staid 1month soo yes great time in Sydney l.

Horrbile experience I’ve never met! This hostel is so dirty, mess, smelly! I was badly bitten by the bed bugs! Their manager told me it was not their fault! Another Asian manager told me that I was unlucky! They asked me to put my luggage in the sun explosure in the roof. Later, I told them it was going to rain and I would like to get it back. They just ignore it and said it won’t rain. A few minutes later, it rained a lot. All my stuffs were wet, including my ID and recording machine. They just said it’s ok and not a big problem. Their manager emphasized that it was not their fault. It’s my fault. They always pass the buck. Oh god! How rude they are！ OK，It's my fault. I shouldn’t choose this hostel! If I don’t choose this hostel, nothing will happen! I won’t come to this hostel any more! I tell you my real experience just for reference. It’s your freedom to choose any hostel including this one. If you would like to choose this one, I only can say good luck to you. By the way, Merry Christmas!

Advertising literally deceptive (rooms glaucous that do not correspond to the photos of the site) Free parking: Lie (+ 30 $/day) Free Wi-Fi: Lie (only on 1st floor or 4 $/day) promises & Shuttle Reservations-Airport Free of charge which proved to be non-existent (advertised free on booking but $14/person on site, booked early in the morning but more availability 15 minutes before going to the shuttle (more is under request for details from us, staff who Had simply cashed the $28 but had not booked the seats by phone with the taxi company annex, we had to take a last minute taxi) establishment of 13 floors in renovations, air conditioning but Windows cloistered, toilets & Showers only at the 2nd (1 elevator that runs on 2), refrigerator in sub-numbers, preview some cockroaches especially in the free Goon storage room and animations every day, can be an advantage but you don't rest in a nightclub, It's a noisy, dirty, expensive establishment clearly held by jerks, for jerks!

85$ a night to sleep in a prison cell. I don’t event know where to start. The room wasn’t big, the bathroom even less. Tissue papers on the floor. The only sight of the outside light is through an opaque window, even in the middle of the day you are in the dark (see last picture attached taken at 9am on a bright day). There is no way you can open it, which means that the room and the bathroom have never been in fresh air. And you can tell by the smell. You can try to turn on the air con, but the smell and dirt coming out of it makes it even worse. Cockroaches and moths wandering around. I wouldn’t be surprise if the quilt covers are not cleaned as well. Overall building, corridors and common areas looks unhealthy. I guess that if you are traveling with friends to get drunk and meet some people regardless of your own comfort, you can consider it as a decent backpacker. Otherwise, run away, it was one of the worst night of my life.

Room smelt like stale sweat and mould. There was mould on the ceilings, and the floors needed a serious vaccine. There was concrete dust everywhere. The showers were hardly warm on full bore hot and they aren't very comfortable. Staff were friendly however, it's just the building is really dilapidated and I even found a bloody bandaid on the stairs. One elevator for 13 floors isn't very good planning. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

It's a good place to meet people, the kitchen is not really clean, and the fridges are dirty. The location is great, the price are decent for Sydney. The staff is friendly, nice place if you wamna find friends to go out with! The shower are and beds are not the best, but its Sydney, it's a backpack!

I no longer fear hell, because I have been to Nomad's backpackers. I feel as though I have emerged from a purgatory of cum stains, cockroaches and cold weak showers without catharsis. Despite the sterile flourescent lighting, I found this place to be a dark wood in my life, where the way was lost because it was still under construction. Literally. With each power point from the 70's that failed to work, I felt another shred of my humanity wither, as a tree in autumn. Hear me, beware traveller! For the path you will traverse at Nomad's is riddled with toe nails and strange half crushed pills. Also there was a mouse living in my room mates bed.

One of the worst hotels Ive stayed in. Well, almost stayed in. Was so bad I gave back the key an hour after arriving! I booked the advertised double room with private bathroom. Wasnt much more than the other rooms, and still cheap regardless. But thats all well and good if what I see & read about hotel is what I get. The staff seemed disinterested when booked me in. Didnt bother to tell me anything except hand me room key and a little flyer. There was no clear signs anywhere with relevant info … like where things were… and whether the areas being renovated were safe to walk through. Which was kind of important, as they were in the main thoroughfare, with wires hanging down, rubble everywhere & tools just left where tradesmen had last used them. Got to my room to find it NOTHING like it was advertised. Nothing but a cold lit room with a mirror and old cupboard in corner… and no bathroom. Went looking on my level for communal bathroom, nothing anywhere, and no signs at all. Back down to reception & was told my private bathroom was down the hall from my room. Back up to find a hallway cupboard, with a barely visible, very small number high above. Bathroom was fine when in there. Except there was nothing private about it. Couldnt lock the door, and had no towels anywhere.

Great location and helpful staff. Room smelled funky and facilities seemed generally run down. Not a bad place to crash but I'd prefer something a little more comfortable for longer term stays. There are a lot of free events going on so definitely check the notice board if you want to get to know new people.

Seriously? The star is for the staff who try to be cool but are overwhelmed most of the time, it is the factory. 12 floors shabby, my room smells of pit (no windows or clim) my sheets smell like feet, the hallways feel the feet, the shower feels good pee. Jai not. Dared the food. All for 32 dolls at night has 8. For a first day in Aussie you don't. More of a country. Sorry guys but you will certainly find better elsewhere. Cheers.

The worst thing ever! This hostel just made me want to cry. One star just because I had to give at least one! We booked a room for 2 persons and we were shocked. The room was absolutely dirty, tiny and disgusting and it smelled. We didn't dare turning the air conditioning on cause it was soo dirty! We had a private bathroom across the corridor which was a joke, too! I would have rather slept in the shower than in this horrible room, though. In the reception room everything was rancid, too. In the "kitchen", if you can call it so, there was nothing to cook with, only some dirty pots and pans, we couldn't find any cutlery, there was nothing to clean the dishes with. After one night we couldn't stand it anymore and moved to a different hostel. We couldn't cancel the booking, so we paid for two hostels at the same time, but that was worth it! I really didn't want to spend one more minute in this degrading place!

Westend Backpackers is a good hostel. Here you pay mostly for the place instead of the rooms or features. The rooms are very smal and smell a bit. The bathroom is ok but I woulnd go inside without shoes… The kitchen is very small, but you have all things you need. In the lobby you have free and unlimited Wi-Fi and free nudels or rice. Worst is the elevator. The hostel has 2 elevator with some problems. Every 2 days one of them is broken and you can walk from the 12 (highst) floor down cause the elevator is stucking or over full. The elevator is non of the trademark from the hostel and you have a lot of fun:D The good thing on the hostel is the place. Its near to the train station (10minutes) but also to the Sydney Opera House. If you search a hostel only for a few days with nearly no comfort than go for it.

Free pasta and rice next to reception was a life saver, free Wi-Fi in the lobby, rooms were clean enough but still a hostel. The elevators/lifts were somehow annoyingly slow and quirkely lovable for it. Would stay again, but I got what I paid for.

I went to stayed there for one night first and I stayed in a female room for 6 people, that was alright, the bathroom was a bit dirty, but the girls were cool and respectful. The day after my boyfriend and I where supposed to stay in a mix room. We got there at 10 pm on Saturday and pretty much it was a party going on in the room, it was like 6 or 7 people smoking weed, listening to loud music and drinking, so I asked them kindly to turn the music down because we were very tired, they didn't and kept partying. So I got really piss off and went to reception to complain and the guy at the reception was nice and gave us one private room for free. The room was confortable but there were cockroaches… so I don't think I would ever stay there again.

It would be a great place for young people in their early 20's to stay. IT was a party place for young people maybe to catch up with other peers and drink. Recommended for this type of lifestyle of the free. It is a backpackers anyway which normally expect. NOT recommended for families, children under 18, too much for them to be exposed to. Was good priced, loved getting discounts for places/attractions from the tour desk. Liked the fact of having our own bathroom instead of shared to have more privacy. Liked being central of everything and could walk to everything. Hygiene wasn't up to standard, we all got sick from the exposure. No air conditioning or screens in our room which also made a hot night, as when we opened the window we could smell outdoor odors and occasional smell of marijuana coming from somewhere outside (unsure where but don't want to know) which could have also been the reason why we got sick. However people that are used to this environment would not have a problem with it. So again this is why I express this for party goers that don't mind the lifestyle. Not complaining it just wasn't for us. (I have stayed at another backpackers in Sydney before which was more suitable for our needs) Please no hate towards my opinion as i'm not complaining I'm expressing who I would recommend would enjoy the experience more. :)

Atmosphere was good, staff where friendly but the cleanliness was poor. The organisation was also very poor as they mixed up my room on several occasions.

Love the bed, the people were nice, but the 2 lifts are annoyingly slow to the point on the first night, many people told me tips of how to overcome the slowness of the lifts, if they're working properly at all. One roommate even said that if it stops at one floor, it wouldn't stop one floor above so he'd had to take the stairs up. You'd have to take off at least 10 minutes before to either wait for the lift to stop at your floor, or if you're impatient enough, to walk down. On my last day where I had to come down with my luggages, the lifts refuse to stop at my floor, coming up & down 4 times skipping my floor (I found out later they were without passengers). I dragged my luggages a floor down, figuring that if I take the lifts from there, either one would stop. One of them did at a press of a button, but before that, stopping at my original floor. I'd love the overall experience if it weren't for having to elongate my travel time due to lifts.

Family suite was really good especially having private ensuite. Not the flashest room but clean and what you would expect for the great budget price. Staff were really helpful and patrons friendly and social. Will be staying there for next Sydney visit. Stacey.

Stayed in 32 bed dorm for 3 nights. Bed comfortable, but the dorm really need alot of renovation. Slept on the top deck, the sound of waste water flowed through the pipeline was horrible. Toilet was ok, but the shower need some touch up too. They need a bigger kitchen, and the ventilation was not good. In contrast, the staffs were great. I didn't ran after the first night, besides I can't refund, it's just because it's cheap, $18 Australian Dollar per night in 32-bed dorm.

Hi everyone my name is steven I stayed at nomads recently in church would reccomend to anyone that want's cheap affordible and most of all no one disturbs you when your resting up!

I stayed in the Churhc (32beds dorm room), I was expecting something noisy (when you know how noisy can be 8people, what to expect from 32?! ) and very hard to sleep but I was really impressed. The room is clean, people were very respectful. Recpetionists were very nice. Wifi is good. I really recommended to stay here for that price!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room was a bit old, but generally ok and comfortable. However, the kitchen was not kept tidy and clean at all time, in fact sometimes it was messy (require stricter kitchen rule). And, it'll be good if they can have table & chair in the room. (Just imagine where can a person who is having the top bunker bed sit? ) It's good that one can order a bus shuttle straight to the airport from the hostel as early as 5.00am. Another good thing is that it's situated in the center of the city (near the central station). The staffs were very friendly & helpful.

Nomads Westend is one of those situations where you get what you pay for. It's cheap and centrally located, close to Central Station, Coles, and George St. My room was not very clean, but that's because I was in The Church with 32 beds for a week, and boy could I write a book about that experience. I wouldn't ever stay in The Church again, but that is always dependent on the other people in the room. The bathrooms and kitchen were pretty clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Free pasta and rice, which is nice if you're on a budget. They do a good job of arranging social activities every night of the week. They have free Wifi "only in the lobby" but it's possible to get it in the dining area as well. The lockers and storage were expensive in my opinion (had to pay $4 upon check out to keep my luggage stored at the hostel). As other reviews will probably tell you, the elevators were a problem. They always worked but they were slow, and there is no stairway connecting the ground floor and first floor. There was a definite lack of hooks in the bathrooms, but that's not a big complaint, just inconvenient. All in all, Nomads Westend isn't terrible but it isn't comfortable, either.

Nomad's hostels in general have been decent venues. I've stayed in a couple in New Zealand, but unfortunately Westend didn't live up to the usual high standards. I was admittedly staying in "The Church" due to budget restraints but a few basic standards didn't seem to be up to scratch. Out of an estimated 25 lights in the room, only 4 worked, all of which were in one area of the room. Some had wires hanging from where bulbs used to be. This left the room dark for most of the day due to the tinted windows. The "church" windows were also broken. The shared bathroom wasn't very clean and the ceiling of one of the toilet cubicles fell down while I was there. (luckily not using the cubicle at the time). There was also a concerning noise coming from the ceiling periodically which sounded like grit or water falling. The room also had a nasty smell, coming from one area of the room. It was there for the entire 2 weeks despite the people changing. A lot of my food and food storage was stolen while I was there and I was advised to try putting it somewhere else despite it being labelled and in the food storage area with everyone else's. Apart from 1st thing in the morning, when the cleaners had been in, the kitchen was generally unclean and sticky. The location is good and all the staff were friendly.

I arrived yesterday in Sydney and the atmosphere of the Hostel was very nice, Prices are fantastic. I met tons of great people there and the staff are very warm friendly and helpful. Every night they bring the residents out to a great bar and give out a free drink.

I was staying the cheapest room costed $18, for 6 ppl in 1 room. It was not bad as this price, but the bathroom was dirty, I didn't want to have a shower in it. So I didn't. The room was warm, I didn't need plenty of clothes. For staying 1 night, should be fine. But 2 days, I can't stay because of dirty.

Stayed in hostels in cambodia, vietnam, thailand, singapore, england and all over australia and this is my far the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. Rude staff, dirtiest rooms I've ever seen an was a night mare.

Had such a great stay here! The facilities were great, and the staff were really friendly. The hostel had activities going on each day which meant if you didnt want to spend heaps of money in sydney we could still go out and do activities with the Nomads special bar discounts, as well as a great way to meet new friends! The facilities were really clean, the beds super comfortable, the water hot, and I really appreciated the staff going out of their way to make me feel welcome and always being super happy! Big heads up to staff member Freja and the manager Sam! Had an awesome stay yeeewww.

I stayed at Nomad's Westend Sydney in mid-April, and the best way I can sum up my stay was that it was honestly alright — however I couldn't spend a day in my room, I purely paid for a bed to sleep in at night and use of the facilities and I was very happy with that! However, there were some things — the rooms smell a bit moldy, perhaps due to the lack of air circulation in them. The showers and bathrooms were all in proper working order but only relatively clean — no dramas though! And the kitchen facilities were fine if not a little dirty — however what do you expect? there's about a hundred or more people who go through there in a day! The reception and staff were awesome! Even the maintenance guys were cool, everyone was very chatty, polite and I'd recommend talking to them because they had some fascinating stories and conversations to offer! Totally worth it! I never went to the parties or organised evening events but according to my boyfriend who's still there, they're not half bad and certainly well worth a night! So, what are you waiting for? Go join in the fun! So if you're looking for a cheap place to stay the night in the middle of Sydney city, or anywhere else on this big island (or NZ! ), and you're on a budget — go Nomads! It'll be well worth it.

My experience at Nomads was as usual very good. I feel very safe there and the hostel is quite clean. Lots happening and nice staff. I met lovely backpackers from all over and changed contact details so it is a great way to meet like minded people. The position of this hostel is fantastic as close to Shopping centres and obviously the station. I would recommend this place to others and would definitely stay there again. Well done Nomads and keep up the good work.

Cost effective, comfortable enough, fantastic location. Careful you don't get caught out like I did — my room definitely had a private bathroom, however this bathroom was not actually inside the room, it was just down the hallway which was okay but unusual. Good idea to check before you book. Decent price, very happy that the room had air conditioning. Good sleep. Little bit rough and dingy, but priced accordingly. Might consider staying there again.

It was a great place to stay. We had a private room with bathroom and it was fine, certainly cost effective. Staff were pleasant and helpful — they also had a great sense of humour. The lifts were annoying because they took too long to arrive. We'd definitely stay here again.

The room was OK, but only one lift for 12 levels, and no possibility to use the stairs for the firts levels was very very anoying! Stairs and commun toilets not clean, but again, the room was OK, except can't keep the window open. Bye.

I would not recommend this hostel to anyone. First impression was that it is dark, crowded and nosiy. There are homemade benches along the hall with people sitting on them. There were dirty sheet and trash in the hall on the fourth floor (this was around 1130am). People don't clean up after themselves in the kitchen. One of the 3 toilets in the bathroom on the 2 nd floor was plugged up with paper for 2 days and another one had blood all over the seat. when I got into my room a girl knocked on the door said she had forgotten her key packed somethings and left, later about 1130pm she came back with the other girl in the room went to bed and around 430 am I hear someone get up I thought to go to the bathroom but it turned out she had left. When I asked the desk how many people were suppose to be in the room I was told 2 myself and one other, I told them that there was a third people in that room and they said that kids sometimes let friends stay over without permission or they climb up and in the windows. There is a travel desk which is suppose to help people book tours or travels, when I asked which way to the Quay or ferry docks (a major landmark it is where the Sydney Opera House is) They couldn't tell me. If I had not prepaid or had the money to stay some place else I would have. As it was I was struck there for 6 days. It is no more there a flop house and a bad one at that.

Not clean, air conditioner in room not working and hot and moldy. Black mold growing on ceiling, Main floors not clean either, trash overflowing, beer all over floor, great location and felt safe with security at door.

Good location, helpful staff, really nice kitchen with room to move around and have several people cooking at once, and there is a travel desk there in the reception area. But it is a huge hostel and hard to make friends unless you do one of the activities at night. The 2 elevators constantly had problems and sometimes would flat out stop working. Our door to our ensuite bathroom trapped a girl in there one time, it wouldn't stay on it's track, so it would only close about 80%. It was an ok hostel, but I would stay elsewhere next time.

Extremely great location! good for young party animals. Friendly staff, free Wi-Fi. The kitchen has everything you need. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm. There is a bathroom ensuite which is comfy. The room was a bit stuffy though the air condition worked all the time. The only one disadvantage was that the luggage storage is paid. All in all it was a good stay.

The reception staff is great, nice and welcoming. But the bulding is old and looking pretty tired. The room for two is small. The kitchen always packed and full of people. It's a little bit stifling.

Great pitt stop for weary travelers. Comfy beds.

Force is to recognize that I was particularly disappointed by the Nomads Westend Backpackers. I would describe this hostel as a concentrated low-cost of oddballs in the appalling way of life. Don't be surprised if your room at 28 dollars a night is suddenly transformed into a hub for cross-cultural fucking. Don't be surprised either being constantly woken up at night by a strident speaker inviting you to share evenings with brainless addicts. In order to try (or not) to make amends, the Inn will still the profligacy to offer rice and pasta at will.

Nomads is a backpacker hostel in a good location on Pitt Street, good for travellers and people looking for somewhere social. There's a travel desk downstairs for booking trips and they have party reps so there is always something going on or a night out. They have pre drinks and games at the hostel before nights out, and get deals at clubs on fridays, saturdays, mondays and thursdays. The actual rooms aren't particularly nice, they are quite dirty and just standard dorms but some of the cheapest in the city. The lift is the worst — they have one lift to serve 12 floors, and it's really slow so there is always about 10 people waiting in reception for the lift. It takes about ten minutes to arrive, and you can't get to any floors without using it. There's free pasta and rice and a fairly big kitchen but given how many people live there it can be hard to find clean pans and get a hob. It isn't a place you'd want to live and work, but if you want somewhere social where nights out are arranged and there's always something going on then you'll probably enjoy it.

A great place to meet new friends from other countries.

Ground floor smells like toilet. Staff were unable to assist with any inquiry I had. Upon arriving they asked me to sign an agreement to the house rules, but were unable to provide the list of rules. Only one elevator in the building that was slow and no other way to enter from the ground. All taps are low flow and heater is in the basement, so don't expect much hot water. Took 2 minutes to fill a water bottle from the tap. Multiple stories about bed bugs from long term residents and ex/temp staff. Apparently they treat them with some raid from Coles. Cleaners are other tenants who aren't qualified. Basic spray around the shower area and throw a bucket of water on it to rinse. Girl arrived at 10pm while I was staying to our room which hadn't been cleaned and a bare bed. I never bothered with the kitchen and fridges area. The floor there was sticky and prime territory for a sickness. But there is the price. You make up your mind. Personally I wanted out before the first night.

A real backpacker experience, good location near Chinatown and Central. Not clean though, there was a lot of black mold in the bathroom. Long waits for the lift but I guess that is the shape of the building. The place seemed like a drunkards paradise with a party atmosphere downstairs on ground and level 1. I can see how some people would like it while others would hate it. All up I give it 3 stars because I got upgraded to an en suite for free. I never thought I would rate a place this dirty as high as 3 stars.
