Great Staff, Inconsistent Food & Service Recovery.
I stayed at Monomotapa Hotel for 7 days.
The good:
Check-in was a bit of a process, but the staff made up for it. The cleaning team were all incredibly kind and friendly. A special shoutout to security guard Bruce— he was so helpful. When I needed a driver to Lake Chivero, he recommended Mido, one of the hotel drivers. I spent the whole day with Mido and he gave exceptional service. The reception team were also very kind and even helped me print and copy some documents on short notice.
The not-so-good:
I mostly used room service because I’m not familiar with Harare. One evening my order came in very late, and it was the wrong order. When they fixed it, the food was cold and I had to ask them to take it back to warm it. I also had lunch in the restaurant once: orange juice, muffins, and cheesecake. As a cheesecake enthusiast, I was disappointed. I was served the slice on display and it was dry and tasteless, like it had been sitting out for days.
When I asked reception for an Asian restaurant recommendation because I was craving ramyeon, I was told they couldn’t recommend anywhere outside the hotel because they have their own restaurant.
After checking out I left a review. I got an email from the hotel saying they wanted to make it right and asked for my number. I replied, but never heard back.
Verdict: The people — especially Bruce, Mido, cleaning, and reception — are the highlight here.
