Great place to stay and eat.
We did a one night stay with as we where visiting a nearby theme park.
Hotel very clean, comfortable beds, toiletries provided and my favourite thing big fluffy towels.
Warm welcome by the receptionist, friendly and she managed to get us booked in the restaurant at the pub. The food was delicious, large portions and all staff friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them.
Would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful food, great choice, all the pub staples and some great dishes you don't always see. Staff are friendly, I can only find 2 tiny faults. The stickers on the floor were a little confusing. I understand they want everyone as safe as possible but maybe just a few less. And the sundaes really need a longer, smaller spoon. Couldn't reach the bottom lol. But these were tiny tiny problems in an otherwise Fantastic evening.

Fantastic place to stay food was brilliant staff are fantastic and so welcoming. We would just like to wish all the staff are best at this moment of uncertainty and we will be back to support you. Rob and Jane.

Nice place. Friendly staff. Although nothing around it within walking distance. But the restaurant is very good value for money. Room was lovely.

The staff were great however and unfortunately all but one of our meals had to go back. One came back totally wrong and with a Yorkshire pudding not fully cooked (still batter at the bottom) this was a meal with only mash and a Yorkshire pudding no veg sent until we asked. (We ordered vegetarian Sunday dinner) Eventually we all individually ate alone as they were brought out so far apart and we had to keep asking where each meal was. It went down in lumps. No one asked how our meal was and no compensation was offered This is now our 3rd bad experience here over the years, chefs fault not the waiting staff. This will be our last visit.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food and a good choice of drinks with some nice ales.

I highly recommend The Red Lion. Have been staying while working in Sheffield. The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms are clean and roomy and the food good. What more could you want.

We had lunch here today for a treat for my dads birthday, sadly we were really disappointed. Prawn cocktail starters sauce was so runny it collected at the bottom instead of over the prawns and one steak order was FULL of fat and chewy.
Two meals had to be sent back because of cold chips and the driest old ham I have ever seen. Food used to be so much better here.
Only positive was the waitresses, they were lovely. But we will not be going back again.

First time visiting Red Lion today. I went for Sunday lunch with my husband and 5 year old daughter. We didn’t have a booking but they fitted us in. The staff were lovely, attentive and made a fuss of my daughter. We didn’t have to wait long for our meals even though it was busy. Food was very nice. It was reasonably priced but all clearly home cooked and very tasty. Overall we were very impressed and will definitely be going again. Thanks.

Ordered: — steak "rare" with extra mushrooms instead of chips Received: — steak cooked through no mushrooms at all. After pointing out that I had no mushrooms a received a dish with 3 sorry looking small fried mushrooms. £14 for 1 piece of way overcooked steak, 3 mushrooms and garnish.

It is/ has improved quite a lot recently. It's very good now. Well has been the last few times we've been.

Totally unimpressed. Orderd a chicken and bacon sandwich which I thought would have been pretty simple to make.
It arrived without being cut… half a lettuce scattered in the sandwich and us one scattered around the plate. No tomatoes cucumber etc. Upon opening the sandwich the bacon was fatty cold and congealed yuk.
Americano coffee ordered with cream on the side. The cream split when put into the tepid coffee. Sent back… same again.
I Will never eat here again. Very very poor. Goodness knows what the hot meals must be like.

Spent 1 night here and really enjoyed it. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable and super king size! The only downside was it could benefit from being updated as both room and ensuite were rather tired. The pub/ restaurant was quirky with plenty of old dark wooden beams and a few stone fireplaces, and food was ample Would recommend to anyone and if in the area again would definately return to stay as staff were very friendly.

Had a meal here tonight with my boyfriend and the service and the food was amazing Holly especially was very pleasant and accommodating. Thankyou sweetheart. Would definately recommend this place and come here again. Brilliant!

This pub is like it was about 10 years ago when we visited it was rubbish, someone said it was now different so we tried it again at the weekend ordered food one of us wanted mushy peas and one wanted garden peas the server came back to clarify which peas with which meal, when they came out with the meal the peas were incorrect with the order that had been clarified by server before this we pointed out the meals were quickly taken away and returned correctly all that was done was to scrape away the mushy peas leaving them stuck to the other food making it obvious what had been done, naff chips and the meals went cold very quickly, later we asked for deserts menu, after over a half hour wait the menu did not arrive so we decided to get up and pay, clearly our business was not wanted, we will not be returning and have warned others locally to avoid eating here.

Very welcoming staff 10/10 could not be more helpful if they tried. Room lovely and clean, very comfy bed. Very clean. Breakfast good. Great stop over. Last minute. Will definitely use again. Bit of a gem this place. If you are in this area, need a place to kip, then use. For Greene King food this is one of the best. PS they hold the real ale really good.

A great place to go with the family or on your own. Small amount of parking spaces, no disabled ones. A public car park opposite is free between 4pm to 10am with disabled spaces. The food was excellent, and service was great.

Catered for us has we hadn't booked a table at a busy service time. Staff were helpful, as I'm a disabled person. Friendly staff and good service. The food was lovely and reasonably priced.

Lovely place to stay, room is a good size and very clean. Shower over the bath is powerful and hot. Bed is huge and very comfortable. Bar/restaurant very clean and the food is gorgeous. Staff are friendly. Very good place to stay.

Expensive bar prices. Bar meals poor standard. Cosy bar area. Good function room with own separate bar for weddings etc.

Not bad, not great. Food was quite nice when we went for lunch. Cosy atmosphere, nice real fire lit in the winter. I would have rated it higher, but the last three occasions I have been for a drink, the Moonshine on draft run out halfway through pulling the first pint and never seem able to change a barrel. For a local, I now tend to stick to the loyal trooper as the ales are always better, but I am still likely to go back for lunch one day.

Good car park with several disabled bays which is important for us. Access to bar/restaurant not good for wheelchairs as it was cobble stones. Good menu with lots of choice. Food very good and quickly served. Toilet facilities very good. Overall a pleasant experience.

Wonderful stay in an upgraded room, the lady on reception was very helpful nothing was too much trouble. We would definately stay again especially as we were coming from the Midlands and wasn't sure where to stay so thankyou for making us feel very welcome.

Needed sausage and chips but they have drowned it in gravy and Herbs. Be warned. Used to be a great hotel when privately owned but they might be trying too hard to be gourmet. Oh no!

Good food. Great breakfast. Nice staff. Bit overpriced for the room, but very conveniently located, and not they much else around.

Location is easily accessible. Space inside is limited for the bar and restaurant areas, however does feel very local and friendly. Drinks are average prices as you expect, however the food is slightly more than average but doesn't deliver quality for it. I ordered the chicken fajitas and wasn't impressed. The chicken was all black and overcooked, the tortillas were also overcooked and rock hard on the edges. The service was lovely, but unfortunately the food wasn't as good. Don't think I'll be going again by choice.

We booked a room for our works Xmas do and we've promised to go back. Staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. Even when my drunken wife phoned for a glass of water at 2am ☺️and breakfast couldn't be faulted.

We had a family get together for breakfast this morning. They put us up in the sherwood suite as there was so many of us. They did a fantastic job, the breakfast was beautiful and the staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful and kept the hot drink and juice station topped up. All in all a great day, thanks to all the staff x.

Went for dinner at around 5:30pm. Not too busy, staff were excellent, very attentive. Meal for 3, they initially brought me the wrong dish but replaced super quick and was offered a free drink which was lovely. Food was delicious. Definitely going back again.

Called for a quick dinnertime snack. Charming old English pub, Good service from friendly staff. We both had the fish, chips & peas, cost less than £10 for 2. Saw at least four real ales on sale. Will call again.

Comfortable, relaxing place. Have not stayed here but eaten in the restaurant on several occasions. Food well cooked and staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Popular Sunday lunch so make sure you book in advance! Very well kept real ales too.

Miserable and dull atmosphere, very much like the clientel. Customers and bar staff all look so miserable. Ideal for funerals but not so much for weddings. Ignorant people using laptops and taking up table space as if it was an office.

Lovely pub with a great menu, rooms are comfortable and well equipped, nice bathroom. The only downside is the noise, the walls seem to be very thin so it was difficult sleeping when I could hear people talking, moving around and TV playing through the walls. The breakfast was beautiful with a continental selection as well as a full English provided. The bed was very comfy! Staff were polite and helpful. I'd definitely stay there again!

Lovely food, nice portions, friendly servers, service can get slower when it's busy though.

First time visit, group of 10 pre booked. The setting and place was fine but the food was very disappointing. Small portions and items that were part of the meal on the menu were not included. Non of the meals on the menu are rocket science and non of my party were impressed with the quality or standard of the served food. Not a place I would go to again or recommend come to that. Far better pubs that do food nearby.

Had a couple of disappointing visits to the Red Lion over the past months for various reasons but decided to give it another chance with their new menu. It could have been a different pub. Service and food was excellent! They even turned the air conditioning down for us as it was a bit chilly. The only real complaint, and it is nit picking, was that although the food came quickly, it took a while to grab our waiters attention for the bill! It was a busy Saturday evening though and it really wasn't a problem for us. So although before our latest visit it would have been difficult to recommend now I would say it is definitely worth your while going, definitely recommend the Indian Banquet!

We stopped here for 2 nights rooms clean and serviced well staff friendly breakfast good.

Food was average. Pulled pork sandwich was quite lacking in pork, no apple sauce came with it, despite what the menu said, and the salad was a few leaves of lettuce. The fish finger sandwiches were much nicer, but still, salad was laughable and no tartar sauce (even though it was also advertised on the menu). Rosemary fries were cold and had no salt nor rosemary on them. Food is average, but you generally don't seem to get what is on the menu anyway.

Quick friendly service. Good food for the price. We only called in for a quick lunch but we were made very welcome.

Staff are awkward, attempting to be friendly I have given the place many chances over a few years as I like the food there. Ages ago it was great. But now for past couple of years, service has been constantly rubbish, making the whole experience just awful, I would not recommend to anyone, it's been awful for years and I wouldn't expect it to change anytime soon.

Went to Red lion on Sunday when they had a shortened version of their usual menu. They forgot numerous items on our order both drinks and food but brought when told. The food was adequate for most of us. Dessert was nice and was quiet.

Expensive. Steak was so thin that even though it was meant to be medium rare it was cooked through. Pudding we had Eton mess ice cream price said 3.29 priced charged 4.29 nearly a fiver for three scoops of ice cream that was like eating grit, in fact it was so horrid it got left. Service was friendly Do the be fooled by the Monday to Friday cheap menu!

We have spent the past few months visiting weekly for a work lunch, the pub staff were very attentive to us in the beginning and the food was always of a high standard — it was a 5 star review without question. Recently it seems they've changed staff which has utterly destroyed their reputation for us. For the past four trips the service has consistently proven to be incredibly poor. On each occasion we've waited 10-15 minutes after being seated just for a menu with the staff walking past entirely oblivious. The staff often fail to return to take a food order. We have never been offered another drink and on many occasions the staff have simply ignored our requests. The final straw for me was tonight, when I ordered the beef rib. Having ordered it a number of times before, the portion size this time was at-least 60% smaller than usual. It looked as if the meat had been stripped off the bone — possibly to use in another dish. We won't be going back any time soon.

Great hotel with beautiful restaurant and bar, the kitchen is great as well as the toilets. Negative note is very close to a busy road.

Good location, just off the M1. Room was nice, decent size. Breakfast was included and had both a continental and cooked options included. Would stay again.

A very nice restaurant indeed, with stone flagged floors and inviting decor. The food was very good as both my Wife and I had the Fish & Chips and we gave it 10 out of 10. The service was a little poor, as we took our seats we were asked if we would like to order our drinks, and I asked for a pint of diet coke, I was then asked if I wanted any ice, to which I replied NO. And guess what? I was given a pint of diet coke WITH ice. What is the point in asking me if I want ice when they just bring me whatever they want? The toilets were very nice apart from the very strong smell of urine, the cleaners need to clean the outside of the urinals as well as the inside, also you could clearly see the brown stains evident on the bottle traps beneath each porcelain urinal. This is not acceptable, and it is a shame because so many aspects of this hotel/restaurant are right. If they corrected the service and cleaned the WC urinals correctly, then this place would have been given 5 stars.

We've been for dinner here a few times now and that provide nice, good quality food. I'd suggest turning up early if possible though, as some menu items run out later in the day due to their popularity.

Update: 1/05/16 — Just been for afternoon dinner with the wife and is still amazing. Food was perfect and came pretty quick and was red hot. Place was very tidy and clean and was pretty much bang on. 10/10 would visit again Had my Wedding reception here 4 years ago last Tuesday. Went back for our Anniversary for a 3 course meal. Everything was perfect from the food to the waiting time to the drinks. Everything we ordered was piping hot and the service was as it was 4 years ago. Amazing!

The building itself and the interior decoration are very good. The location is out on its own not far from the M1. The menu choices are good, average priced, however it's a small menu and when you have such limited selection you need to make sure you have everything available. When I visited 2 things were out of stock. The food I did have (hunters chicken) after finding the rib combo out of stock, was quite a small portion for the price and was not as good as expected. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't amazing. The bacon was very fatty for example. Drinks are also quite expensive. Overall it was a nice change and there was nothing wrong overall, but I won't be rusing back.

A quick stop on the way by. Food was delicious and well priced, and service was quite good. Just took a little while to sort out the bill post-meal.

Amazing hotel! Staff were fantastic and extremely accommodating. We've stayed in many places and I couldn't recommend The Red Lion enough. Will definitely come again.
