Beautiful hotel in an ideal location, 5min walk into town. Spotlessly clean and we were very fortunate to be given an upgrade. Highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant weekend Tim and Cathy were the best hosts we have ever had anywhere in the world and we have all travelled extensively. The hotel is absolutely stunning very tasteful decor and the ambiance is delightful.

Attended a wedding. Beautiful venue. Service by Cathy, excellent service, attentive and friendly. Food lovely well presented. A great day.

Lovely experience room stay brilliant but the restaurant has to have the highest recommendation as the meal was beautiful thank you.

Deal through travelzoo with evening meal & breakfast. The restaurant food is amazing & the staff serving are so fantastic & go out of their way to make you feel very welcome. This is our third visit and they have been consistent every time. Rooms are comfortable & the hotel is within walking distance of the train station & York city centre. As always a very enjoyable break.

Had our wedding at The Grange on Saturday, it was so amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel for weddings, the rooms were beautiful, the food was outstanding, the staff were so friendly and helpful all weekend. Claire helped us so much with our planning & really made us feel that everything was taking care of. We were both so calm on the day because everything was so well organised for us! We really can’t thank you all enough for making everything so special for us, we can’t wait to stay again❤️xxx.

It's an amazing place with lovely staff. Dog friendly. We where there on the 4th January for a family wedding. Can't fault it at all. We had an amazing time.

Just had two nights here, room was lovely & spacious and the evening meal was exceptional. Breakfast also great & more than adequate with a huge choice. This was our 2nd visit we will definitely be back again.

I had booked to take friends here for Afternoon Tea to celebrate a special birthday. I had been on a previous occasion for a similar celebration, so knew it would be good. As it was a Monday we had a lovely table set in a quiet lobby area with comfortable seating, white tablecloth and all well laid out. We were able to enjoy a drink of our choice with the Afternoon Tea and they brought the hot drinks of our choice a bit later on as requested. The service was friendly but not fussy. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were lovely. We all enjoyed it very much.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the lovely, friendly staff at this hotel who made our short, but very happy stay here so enjoyable!

Excellent hotel and beautiful rooms located close to the walls of York.

If all as you want is a good room in a great location & can take care of yourself then this hotel is good. However, if you want warmth, atmosphere & any sense of welcome then don’t stay here. A great property is let down by surly unhelpful staff for whom everything seems too much trouble.

A fantastic hotel in the heart of York, town centre easy to reach, rooms clean, service excellent, breakfast full and delicious.

Beautiful hotel just a few minutes walk from York town centre and train station. We went for a Gin Tasting (Virgin Experience day) followed by a lovely meal there. Highly recommended. There is parking if needed but a daily charge is applied. If you are going for the gin tasting don't bother going to the hotel early as they cannot cater for you. 10 to 15 mins before your start time is plenty.

We chose The Grange as it's a Tesla Destination Charging partner. We reserved our spot in advance, and had a chargepoint reserved ready for our arrival. We received an upgrade to The Suite which was great. The food in the restaurant (we had an evening meal and breakfast the) was excellent. The staff are all lovely.

Lovely welcome all staff friendly and helpful. Hotel has character clean and well kept Had a small issue which was addressed promptly. Excellent dinner and breakfast. A positive experience we recommend.

It was late, almost closing time and we were very welcome. This property is a very good address. The decoration and style (very English. ) delighted us. Quality and service are at the rendezvous. The contents of the plate justify the price which seems a bit high at first.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely hotel right in the heart of York city centre literally 5 mins walk. Great staff, really fab breakfast and to top it off they upgraded our room to a suite when I mentioned that it was my 25th wedding Anniversary a couple of days before. Thank you so much.

Went here last night to meet friends who were staying there. We only went for dinner. I arrived with a broken foot. Car parking immediately outside. Lift to all floors. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food was amazing best steak I've had in ages and all party were happy with what they had. And the best bit for someone on crutches… Hand towels in the very clean disabled toilet so I didn't have to come out with slippy hands due to hand driers… my personal pet hate. Well done to all the team had a great evening.

VERY nice hotel! Staff are courteous and helpful, food at the restaurant was far better than expected.

Not sure why this charming hotel is rated so low — 4.0 on TripAdviser and only 4.2 on Google. One visitor gave it one star because parking cost £10! Try London! So many of the negative reviews read like a script from 4-in-a-bed. I hop they apply the same standards to their own homes. Recommended.

A lovely hotel. Not too big but still feels grand. Food was excellent and the staff were really attentive.

Beautiful hotel and location. The ivy restaurant had the most delicious menu and friendly staff. The only thing that let our stay down was the receptionist, not very helpful and a little rude in my opinion.

Very nicevold style mansion converted to a hotel. USB connectors on mains plugs a nice touch. Hot water is fierce. Cosy and high ceilinged rooms. 5 min walk to York minster. Friendly staff.

We attended a Gin tasting Masterclass at the Grange Hotel. This was very well organised and a perfect venue. We enjoyed a delicious two course lunch before walking into the centre of York. We would definitely recommend the Grange Hotel.

Very good location and good food served. Had a jazz night when we went and was very loud whilst eating. Rooms well decorated. Need to book parking in advance and is £10.

Held my wedding reception at the Grange on Friday and it was perfect. Claire the wedding coordinator was so helpful and attentive and was always on hand to respond to my emails whilst planning. On the day our host was Choudhry and he was fantastic, so helpful and made sure everyone was looked after. All my guests have said how amazing the food was. And I must agree! Compliments to the chef! The suite was also perfect! Thank you so much for making our day so special. Everything ran so smoothly. It was the perfect day! Thank you xx.

Very elegant hotel in good central York location; interesting "straight line" walk to and from the station and railway museum with part alongside the railway and including footbridge across the river. Good service from all the staff, room well appointed and clean. Interesting history available regarding the origin of the establishment.

Beautiful hotel! An old fashioned but very modern style to it was stunning. Reception lady was very welcoming, room was an amazing layout (the beds are SO comfy and the bath even had a TV! ) the food was unreal and the service was great too. Perfect location as it’s a short straight forward walk straight into the centre of York. Will definitely be returning here if we visit York again and would recommend it to anybody.

Just returned from a 2 night break Inc new year's Eve. Good points: Nice hotel in good location, easy walking distance from the City. Bad points: Very disappointed that breakfast was not included in the price 189.00 per night, they charge 15 pounds extra which is ridiculous. Then on top of this they charge another 10.00 per night for parking! Will definitely be looking for somewhere else to stay next time we visit York.

We had the Travelzoo deal for 1 night… it was fab. Great place. Evening meal & breakfast were lovely. Location is so good… front staff a bit stiff maybe. Just need to smile & be a bit happier & make better effort at times. I'd recommend it tho.

The d was xomfortable, though the walls were thin and did not absorb noise. Bar and eating area was compact but very welcoming.

Generally a nice place but rooms are on the small size and a 10 charge per night for the carpark.

Lovely hotel ideally situated in York, just a short walk into town. Very comfortable bed. Car park is tiny and you have to reserve a space for £10 a night but I feel this is a reasonable charge. Very pleased to find Yorkshire Tea Gold in the room! There is a fridge in the room which is very handy unless it decides to bleep every minute as it has a fault and it takes contacting reception three times before the problem is sorted. Not a huge problem I know but a rather annoying one especially if you have to keep chasing the staff up. That aside we very much enjoyed our stay.

Lovely room and comfortable bed. The first time we have had fresh milk in the room fridge for tea in the morning. I would love to go back.

Stayed for one night 26th July. The location is great only a 5 minute walk to York Minster etc. The room was modern but also keeping with the hotel charm. The breakfast was amazing in a great setting. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend a stay at The Grange Hotel.

I actually quite liked the hotel itself, although the room was not very inviting and didn't encourage one to stay in it any longer than necessary. I wish the reception staff would have told us that, despite the fact that there is a lift up to the first floor, there are then 4 steps up and 22 steps down to the room along quite a tortuous route (no exageration). We had a heavy case and no-one offered to help. We were later told that there was a single staircase up to the room from the car park which would have been easier. I suggest you ask which rooms have stairs because quite a few do. As far as I can seen, only rooms 2 (directly off the bar), 40, 41, 42 (indirectly off the bar), 5, 6 (next to the noisy lift, 7, 8, 9 (on the ground floor), 10-15 on the first floor (12 next to the lift) and 26 (next to noisy lift) and 27-29 on the second floor. If anyone is interested, I can tell you how many steps there are to each room but it's too much to put it all here. The car park is a nightmare; you are advised to book a space which I did (at a cost of 10 per night), only to find on arriving back two days in a row that there were no available spaces. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is particularly good — all freshly cooked with a small buffet for cereals and fruits. Dinner was also very good but the waiter we had was fairly useless and hadn't been to charm school. The manager was much better. Restaurant and bar are in the basement with a very steep staircase down.

Attended a wedding here and stayed the night. Ordered some sandwiches and teas at 12, tea arrived after 30 minutes with no milk. Had to ask 3 times for milk before it came which was half an hour later and stewed so ruined. Sandwiches arrived at 1.15pm, after chasing several times. Had to leave for the wedding 5 minutes later so had to eat what we could and leave. They didn't offer any kind of apology or discount. Our friends staying for the same wedding with a small baby were given a tiny room directly above the wedding disco with a window that opened directly to a noisy road, on a hot June night they really struggled. Note. They charge £10 extra to park and £15 extra to hire a travel cot per night!

We came here for an afternoon tea as part of a hen weekend in York. The hotel is lovely with lots of historical detail and the rooms we ate in were very sumptuous! We were served a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones, laid out as a buffet. For the price, we would have preferred table service, though. The staff were also friendly and helpful, preparing Earl Grey for one of our group who didn't like the tea and coffee. We also had prosecco and were able to order more. All in all, an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Comfortable beds, warm bathroom with piping hot water, and delicious food — ate in the hotel each of our three nights, menu different each time but quality and presentation was consistently maintained at a high standard. Oh that all hotel staff could be as happy in their work and always with a smile as everyone at The Grange. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Our room was excellent, all the staff were friendly, helpful, and very polite The inside was clean, quite, and peaceful. The cellar restaurant was perfect, and the food was brilliant. The location was in easy reach of the town centre. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys a lovely hotel, friendly staff, and great food. Wilson Westcliff on sea Essex 15th. June 2016

Absolutely love this place is just what we needed after a long road trip from Scotland. Love love love the bathrooms, the tubs are amazing.

We were not happy at all with the way we were treated by the managers when we had a complaint. We were having a birthday meal and the night was completely ruined by the lack of effort in compensation from the manager in charge. We definitely will not be returning as we feel we were entitled to a partial refund which we were outright refused.

I came here for afternoon tea with a party of 10, so I can't comment on any overnight facilities, but the service and food we had was excellent. We visited on the 30th Dec and were well looked after by all members of staff — from the lovely lady on the front desk to our waiter, Elliot. (One gentleman even parked our car when we were having trouble manoeuvring! ) They were patient (given some members of our party were late) and came across as very attentive, professional and well mannered. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it! We enjoyed it so much that we took what we couldn't manage home. It was a special experience, that we have some lovely memories to take away from. I can't wait to come back and would recommend to anyone wanting an exceptional afternoon out.

Was supposed to be a very nice hotel, which one should be able to expect considering the price. Unfortunately it seems that the current owners don't find it necessary to do any maintenance or pay attention to customer service. Location for exploring York is great though. . Wallpaper coming off the wall, bathtub handles coming off, only 1 shower gel to share between two people, similarly only 1 biscuit, dirty spoons, ordering drinks in the bar means — after waiting more than 15mins — one has to block the waiters path to put in an order etc. Etc. Etc. It could be so much better and I would have loved to come back. Not happening.

Overall not bad but long staircase and narrow corridors not easily accessed, food was top quality but staff were very eager to kick us out of restaraunt as they had staff party to attend, bedroom was ok, but room faced outside busy road, windows sound proofing poor, TV had poor reception, poor picture.

Terrible time. The room was unprepared and we had no hot water. When I called to voice my concerns with the manager I was hung up on and had to reclothe to walk to the lobby to complain. We had to prepay and they are refusing to compensate us for this 'luxury' stay. Very disappointing.

Good hotel though best avoided if they have a wedding event on — as the staff can be very distracted. In week the staff are very attentive and helpful.
