Just spent a wonderful day at Middlethorpe Spa… thank you to all the lovely Ladies who made my sister and my day wonderful… nothing was too much trouble… the spa is fabulous … the treatments we received were so relaxing and the Beauticians were professional, caring and super friendly… our two course lunch was delicious… we spent some precious time together as sisters having the most special day together… can not praise this spa enough… Thank you to all 😊

We had a lovely stay, the staff were really helpful and made our stay very special. The house was even better than we expected, we really felt we had stepped back in time (but with very modern and luxurious amenities). The rooms were excellent as were the gardens and the Spa and the food was fabulous. We will definitely return!

A very enjoyable stay, attentive staff, beautiful gardens. A bus stop outside the drive with regular buses into York, will be visiting again.

My hubby booked us a surprise two night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Having stayed here before we were treated to a room upgrade at check in. Our room was located on the 4th floor overlooking the beautiful rear gardens, we thoroughly enjoyed all our meals especially the tasting menu, afternoon tea and cooked breakfast!
Every single staff member was caring, polite and professional. Thank you to the all team for the wonderful memories, we look forward to staying again ❤️ Anesha and Thomas.

A scrumptious Sunday lunch in delightful surroundings and with excellent service.

Attended a RHS guided garden tour and lunch event.
The guided talk was leisurely and interesting, the grounds are a joy, and lunch was "Wow"!
Professional, friendly and attentive staff and a gorgeous venue!

Beautiful English Country House with good old fashioned service and helpful staff. There is a separate hotel Spa with luxury treatments, small but warm pool, and hot jacuzzi. Best of all is the great breakfast and exquisite dinner service in the Hall. Good selection of gins and cocktails. There is a regular bus service two minutes walk from the hotel into the YORK City with its famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, and so much to see and do, or if you are in the mood for a walk it is an easy 40 minutes.

We had a great stay here for our family get together. The staff were so helpful and everything was spot on. Hope to return soon.

I went middlethorpe spa this afternoon for a facial and half day treat to myself it was fantastic just what I needed so relaxing the facial was one of the best I’ve had EVER! Thoroughly recommend treat yourself go on x.

On top beautiful place and surrounding dinning is must and breakfast is superbly delight.

Such a beautiful place, lovely staff, rooms are quaint and have all the facilities you need. The gardens are gorgeous and the treatments in spa were first class. Helen the therapist was amazing. Also I was greeted in hotel room with a lovely message and chocs and fruit for my special birthday. Thankyou so much to all the staff xx.

Had a lovely stay here, great meal, cosy and very clean room with homemade biscuits! A huge thank you to the concierge who brought me a hot water bottle as I wasn’t feeling too well with a winter cold!

Very helpful staff, nice touches in the room eg. Biscuit tin, plenty of bottled water, umbrella and a bath is always nice.

A little dated, but lovely service and tasty food.

Enjoyed a two-night stay for a work event at this fabulous hotel. Staff are extremely helpful and accommodating and the hotel truly is a piece of history, with lots of character but also offering a welcomed quiet and relaxing stay — something a bit different from the ordinary. Would highly recommend visiting and staying at this hotel. Will definitely back for a visit!

Beautiful food … compliments to the chef… staff very welcoming and attentive.

Very nice place, beautiful grounds and gardens all around, quiet. Loved the Spa but just make sure you pre book your massage in advance as they do get busy.

Absolutely fantastic hotel and staff. Beautiful building and grounds. Food amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Our server Rebecca was perfect and had a good rapport with our group.

Very posh upmarket Hotel and Spa. Prices are quite expensive. Very plush surroundings. Large stately room sized rooms! Toilets not too accessible for myself, a lot of stairs or go in a very old, very small lift. Expensive food and drinks. Quality Food. Small Bar. Ample free car parking outside with disabled nearer to the building.

Lovely small hotel, great attention to detail. Staff were excellent throughout. Spa staff were very good — we each had a treatment — facilities were quiet for an August weekend. Could do with a bit of a refresh but lovely location. Wouldn't be first choice for spa break but excellent hotel break for a treat with added benefit of spa facilities. Easy access to York made this a great place for a weekend break for something special. Hotel grounds and public rooms made just relaxing in the hotel a very appealing option.

My fiance and I stayed here for one night and had the most amazing and relaxing stay. It is a beautiful building with the most stunning gardens. The room was clean and had everything you need including bathrobes. We ate at the hotel for dinner and it was delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also a delight! Staff were incredibly helpful and kind. Upon our arrival we were shown around the house into the different rooms, including the spa building dining room and library. They also helped us with our luggage and paid close attention to detail to make sure we were well looked after. There was plenty of parking and it is a 7 min drive to York. Would recommend to anyone if they want a short break in York.

Had an amazing day at the Spa with my wife. We'd gone for one of the full day packages. Lovely intimate atmosphere, staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. Most importantly the massage and treatment was first class and one of the best I've had.

We stayed in the cottages not the actual Hall but it was wonderful and clean and homey and had everything we could've needed. It was easy check in and check out, close to York and bishopthorpe and all around a great experience. Absolutely stunningly gorgeous I cannot praise it enough.

This was an awesome find. Stayed 3 days. Room very comfortable. Staff very attentive. Noticed a comment about no tea/coffee facilities in room, just call down and they bring it to you silver service quickly and fresh. Evening dinner was fantastic, very good choice and fresh. Calm, relaxing, perfect place to unwind. Def going back. Only 10 mins from city centre well worth the effort to go outside the city.

Had a one night stay as a birthday treat and loved it. There are better places to stay for spa facilities but what they have is lovely. If you are looking for beautiful grounds, elegant surroundings and excellent food, this is the place for you. Every single staff member was very friendly and attentive and were very accommodating with my gluten free requirements. We will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone.

Our second visit. Absolutely brilliant. Lovely and efficient staff, great rooms, that are unique, and as for the food, it was sublime. Can't wait to go back.

Beautiful hall. The staff are helpful and polite in the main hall. The spa on the other side in the little cottage could be greatly improved. We arrived, having never been before, to be greeted casually by a member of staff who didn't show us around or explain any of the facilities. We were pointed through a door to get changed into our gowns and then left to ask other guests where certain facilities were. There were no personal touches at all. The pool area could do with a spruce up and it all looked very third class and grubby. No real place to unwind and relax. No soothing music. The treatments were ok. But you could get that treatment in your local town. Definitely not a place to be pampered and spoilt. A real waste of a few hundred pounds and I will definitely look else where for another spa experience.

Magnificent National Trust property where you can sleep in a 4 poster bed in a grand room overlooking walled gardens and 3 story Cedar of Lebanon. Amazing restaurant on site as well as pool and spa. Good massages and facials too.

Stayed here as had another dinner arranged for the evening in the centre of York. Excellent location. Spotless and cared for hotel and grounds. Staff excellent. Genuine attentive staff. Lovely bedroom. Very clean and was a good size. Excellent breakfast. Fast service and cooked fresh. The spa was lovely. Small and intimate feel. Had a fantastic facial. We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the evening and it was super. Very intimate and relaxing. Thank you all for a super weekend. David and Angela harrison.

We had our wedding there on NYE, and family stayed for a few nights. All we ever heard was great comments about how friendly and helpful the staff were. Definitely above the 4+ star hotel.

The Spa staff were friendly and professional. The treatments I chose were absolute bliss. I followed the half day spa with a pre arranged 3 course lunch at the Hotel … perfect! Waiting staff were polite and cared for your every need. The food was top class. Only criticism is the wine was over priced. Overall experience was delightful. The surroundings were spacious, ornate and luxurious. I will certainly like to repeat this special treat again …!

Outstanding, amazing food and service. Friendly staff and outstanding service. We stayed in the four poster room and had beautiful views across the gardens. The room and bed was incredibly comfortable and we got a fantastic night's sleep. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying there.

A fantastic place to stay. Totally relaxing spot close to all York has to offer. Service at every level second to none.

Two of my friends booked a champagne afternoon tea on Saturday for the three of us to celebrate my upcoming birthday. The whole experience was a delight from start to finish. The house is beautiful and our reception and treatment were perfect. Tea was fabulous, in wonderfully comfortable and gracious surroundings. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. When we were ready to leave, our taxi failed to turn up. The staff could not have been more helpful, and, when a replacement cab failed to turn up within the promised time frame, one of the staff offered to run us into York himself! Talk about 'beyond the call of duty'! As you can imagine, we will be back.

Beautiful. Enjoyed steam room and gardens. Fantastic ploughmans lunch for room service. Stunning room and grounds very comfortable and amazing breakfast with lovely silver and amazing fireplace and room.

Just back from a girls weekend. The hall is lovely and the staff are all polite friendly and helpful. We stayed in the courtyard rooms. They were clean and cosy but very old fashioned which I know is in keeping with the house but if it was my hotel I'd modernise them! The spa is lovely and we enjoyed our breakfast.

Exceptional stay at Middlethorpe Hall. Spent 2 glorious nights here. Hotel is outstanding and deserves a 5 star rating. All members of staff so attentive to our every request. Dinner outstanding and breakfast was glorious. Really nice grounds to walk around too. Cannot recommend a stay here, enough. Thank you so much to all the staff for making our stay a memorable one. Will return here for sure.

Arrived for a spur of the moment lunch after driving past the venue, and they were kind enough to accommodate a party of 6 with no booking. Staff were extremely polite and attentive, and the food was very high quality. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

What a wonderful old building. I feel like I've gone back in time. The staff are attentive and keen to help. Thought has been given to all aspects of a guests stay. The views over gardens are relaxing. My afternoon tea was scrumptious as was my breakfast. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a break away either in group or individually. Here, you are close enough to visit the delights of York or simply chill in the Spa and pool.

What a beautiful setting. Booked for afternoon tea for my mum, best friend & goddaughter for their birthday treat. We arrived early and were shown to our own private sitting room which overlooked the lawn. It was a beautiful room. The food was great but we asked for no prawn sandwiches but when they arrived we were told they had already been made. I think the staff could have been more attentive as we had to ask for more tea when somebody did appear & had to go find somebody when we wanted clean plates (nobody about so had to go ask reception). Not sure if we would return for afternoon tea but I think it would be a wonderful place to stay. A couple of suggestions for the afternoon tea would be less cake (3 slices of cake was excessive on the middle tier) and possibly something savoury instead i. E. Individual quiche.

Nice surroundings. Used the meeting room and it was very nicely decorated. More than 20 people though and it would be very cramped.

The excellent quality of the treatments provided by the professional and extremely friendly staff never disappoints. One of the best spas I've been to!

Middlethorpe Hall is a truly stunning place with the most amazing, dedicated and hardworking team! We chose to have our wedding at Middlethorpe in June and I would like to thank all the team for making it such a perfect day. It was down to their commitment to excellent service, attention to detail and thoughtfulness that we had such an amazing day. I cannot thank you all enough! From initially seeing Middlthorpe Hall we knew we wanted to get married there, both the grounds and house are beautiful with impeccable upkeep. After meeting Julia, the Wedding Coordinator, we knew our wedding day was in safe hands with her and the Middlethorpe Team. She ensured our day ran smoothly and had thought of details for the wedding that even we had not. Our day would not have been as wonderful as it was without her help and input. She was professional, always available and quick to respond. We arrived at Middlethorpe Hall the night before the wedding, all the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. From arrival we were made to feel very special and all our needs (and more) were catered for. All the rooms were pretty and spotless, we stayed in the Duke of York Suite and it is without a doubt the most outstanding room I have ever stayed in. I used the Spa facilities and had my nails done, the lady who did my nails was lovely and did a wonderful job. The Spa facilities are well kept. Whenever we needed anything, every member of staff was willing to go the extra mile for us.

We have stayed here and eaten here and the house, the grounds, the spa, the service and the food were all fabulous. Well worth a visit!

It was the most fantastic place to stay, even for just a 24 hour minimoon. We were upgraded to better accommodation, which made the stay even more magical. The grounds very beautiful and the house, grand. The food was delicious seasonal cuisine and the service from our arrival onwards was exceptional. The spa was a much welcomed and relaxing retreat. We couldn't have asked for more. Thanks to everyone at Middlethorpe Hall.

Ive just returned from spending 2 nights at the hotel, I really enjoyed my stay, had a room in courtyard, lovely view from my window, very quite, wonderfull views surrounding hotel, garden, s for example, across from york races. I found the staff very helpfull and friendly, the yorkshire breakfast was superb, linda who works in the dining room is a lovely lady, like a breath of fresh air, with her sense of humour. Would reccomend to friends and will come again.

We held my mum's funeral tea here. It was a perfect venue with impeccable, discreet service. The staff were attentive, the food good, a very comforting and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you so much.

Without a doubt, the most brilliant stay I have ever had in York. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. A beautiful building, with excellent facilities. The restaurant alone is worth the price of staying.
