Good cocktails friendly staff.

Good old traditional pub with fantastic staff and a warm welcome.

Attitude is key. This never had to come to this. I visited one night. Amazing service. Friendly staff. Good food. Nice drinks range. Got tipped. Returned next night and got a rude bar person. Who gave me a disgusting side to my meal. I never asked for refund nor discount. Just that it was taken away. The server did. Spoke to other staff. Who was rude and confrontational. I binged my meal, left my drink and walked out. I asked staff and found out the rude person was owner. Typical. Has the money to purchase but not to buy some customer service skills. I emailed in my complaint, that the confrontational attitude ruined my last night of holiday hoping the owner had a partner who could contain them. For the sake of myself moving forward and other customers. Only to be replied to by the rude person (Sue) who continued the confrontation over a £1.50 side order instead of realising its time to shut up. I will never visit nor stay now. After planning a trip this summer there with friends. I would literally go to any other bar until they change ownership. Not that ‘sue’ cares. She/they would rather be aggressive over a side order than admit she/they were wrong in their approach. Treat me like a Karen. I will happily become one. I see now why a sick member of staff was forced to work a twelve hour shift when they were too sick to even stand. Which was why I tipped to start with. ‘sue’ needs removing asap. I feel dirty for even entering tonight.

Great little pub Friendly bar maid and nice atmosphere.

Brilliant accommodation and pub! Returned home today after a 3 night stay at the black horse and me and my partner are both really happy with our stay. The room was spotless and homely. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Free Wi-Fi that worked really well. The bar itself was amazing. Loved the Yapas meal deal and the wine included. My partner loved the range of ciders available. And all round had a lovely stay. Thank you!

Great pub in Whitby. Very small and compact. Terrific choice of beers and lagers and bar snacks. Mixed chilli nuts are excellent. Highly recommended and very dog friendly.

A classic pub, good selection of drinks, Guest beers and ciders, and a decent gin selection. Serves "Yapas" or Yorkshire Tapas, very tasty and I recommend the Yapas cheese board. Great value for money. Dog friendly and can take kids in. Friendly staff and quick service. Will be back again.

Stayed for one night to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary in Whitby. Couldn't have asked for a better location. The pub was really traditional and quaint and the room was clean and well presented. Will definitely be stopping again.

One of the best pubs in Whitby. Great bar staff, old worldly character and home from home. Its a must when you visit Whitby. Real ales and Yorkshire tapas (Yapas). Something for everyone-don't miss it xx.

Great real ales and Ypas (Yorkshire Tapas for non-natives). Traditional pub, lovely staff. Great for couples or small groups as it's a small pub. Check out the wallpaper in the toilet!

We always pop in for a drink and Yapas when visiting Whitby. Doggie friendly too. Marked down as the ciabatta served with it (described as being from a local bakery and floury) is unlike any ciabatta I’ve ever eaten.
Shame as everything else is very good. Lovely cheeses and tapenade. It needs a more rustic crusty roll to enhance the food. Staff very helpful.

Just got back from a weekend staying at the black horse lovely staff great pub lovely clean room with plenty tea coffee ect and porridge which was welcoming as it was a great way to start the chilly day in whitby. The pub is in a perfect location for everything will definetley stay here again if in whitby.

Ace little pub. Landlady Sue and all staff very friendly and know how to pull a pint. Good selection of beers that change on a regular basis, descent larger and also sell dog bandana's in aid of life boats. This place is a must for you and your dog, only small rooms so you soon get chatting to other people, local and tourists, 2 and 4 legged.

Step back in time to the1950/60's. Wonderful, atmospheric pub. People actually talk to one another here. And to top it off the beer's good as well. We come back to Whitby and The Black Horse every year.

Stayed here for 3 nights for a birthday booze up in whitby.
Brilliant location. Right in the centre and surrounded by pubs and restaurants.
Rooms are very good, you have to be careful walking around as this place is very old and the floors uneven. Which is all part of the charm.
The staff are all really friendly and the landlady smiles. Always a plus.
Even the small "tapas" menu is good.
A couple of points to add balance. There is no parking as this really is in the centre, however parking is 200 yards away and 8 english pounds for 24 hours which is ok. And its a tad noisy, not at night but early in tbe morning as all the business's take deliverys.
Would we stay again? Yep and whitby is a great town to visit. :)

We always go to the black horse when we are in Whitby. It's a friendly pub with great beer. I also like the bar food which is quirky and tasty.

Been in a few times always a friendly welcome and they allow dogs in also tapas with pork pies very nice and well kept beer every time I go to Whitby I pop in.

My favourite pub in Whitby l. A step back in time to a tradional boozer but it's much more than that. Love a decent shandy bass. X.

Really great welcome. Cldnt be more welcoming or accomodating. Clean tidy room, restocked breakfast tray, lovely shower, comfy bed, great central location and fantastic bar with selection of everything including great tapas to boot downstairs. Brilliant value.

Old pub with a long history and a landlady who really cares about looking after her ales and her customers.

On my journey through the UK this has been one of my favorite places to date. The staff here are exceptionally friendly. The bar has a great atmosphere and dates back to the 16th century, so it has a lot of history. The best part is all of the people that come into this bar. It truly makes the experience in Whitby and the whole of England. Everyone is friendly, accommodating and the stories and knowledge of the UK as a whole are second to none. No travel guide/book could touch it. When in Whitby, this is the place to stop and have a few pints. Don't forgot, they have some rooms upstairs if you need a place to stay, which I did. The rooms are clean and inviting and will have everything you need for your stay. One last thing, if you have a dog (s) they are very welcome in the bar and many places in town (bars/shops/eateries) are very pet friendly.
