Royal Discovery Hotel

It's ok if you stay in the new part but we were put in another building on the upper part of Whitby. Room was minute although clean. Called and explained I was disabled and had requested a ground floor room. They put me on the top floor so I had to go up the stairs on hands and knees. Landlady said nothing she could do.

Stay was pretty good, lovely room. However the breakfast was awful, and having pre-booked both days in advance, I requested to cancel the following day whilst at reception. I was advised that it would have to be done in writing via email, which I did that day. I had no response, and having chased many times I've had a 2 line response saying I will not receive my refund. £14 for a service we didn't have, and requested to cancel in advance, in person and in writing — not unreasonable. Worse still, their service is non-existant, with the only response seeming to come from their Facebook page. The manager on duty couldn't be bothered to deal with me on the day, and now won't even respond.

I had booked a basic room and was updated free of charge on arrival to a one bedroomed, self contained apartment. The apartment was clean and spacious and tastefully furnished. Beautiful bathroom, effective heating and had a great feel about it. Large bedroom and very comfortable bed. Good central location too. Thoroughly recommended… definitely 5 stars!

The apartment we stayed was in an ideal location. It's got everything you need. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We have stayed here on numerous occasions, unfortunately the last time we stayed someone had been in painting, it was still wet, it was gloss and the smell was intense. They couldn't move us and it was too late to find somewhere else. This didn't spoil the visit to where we were but wasn't pleasant in the room.

Really pleased comfortable bed lovely and tidy. Definatly stay again. Updated coming back in may.

Worst two nights sleep I have ever paid for… Having traveled professionally and recreationally for a number of years I have never been so disappointed in not only the accommodation but also the service provided. Avoid the disappointment and stay somewhere else.

Upgraded on arrival to a 2 bed apartment above the reception area. A nice warm an comfy apartment with great views of the Abbey. Great shower in the bathroom!

Lovely staff … they were very accommodating when we made some requests… nice breakfast… clean comfortable apartment… but not suitable for disabled would need the main part of the hotel. Parking limited at the hotel but plenty near by.

Place is nice but unfortunately the heating doesn't work and as we staying for Xmas its very very cold. Mentioned this to reception, and heating is computer controlled very inadequately. They said they would send someone to sort it unfortunately we are still sitting in the cold and it's looking like a cold Xmas day for us. Thanks discovery for been the grinch that ruined Xmas.

I am thrilled with the Seagull loft. It is right in Whitby town and WARM. Good after Baltic Edinburgh. Nice view of Abbey bit do not get too far on Royal Fisheries fish and chips as staircase is tigjt with bags. Pay extra to park. That is last minute finding. 10 quid a day? Bit steep. Whitby is just lovely tho.

Haven't stayed here, just called in for a coffee but lovely place.

Have stayed on Normandy terrace in the old houses and was very pleased. They allow dogs. Silver street is noisey and some things are not very well maintained.

On arrival the room wasn't ready. When we entered the room and looked around to check all was ok we noticed the bed had not been changed. When reported this to reception, the reply was that there was no cleaners on site. A sheet was given to us so we had to change the bed ourselves. We were in one of the mini suites. The health x safety was appalling. The electric appliances had not been PAT tested. No handrail on stairs. Microwave to high to reach. Vertical blinds had parts missing. There was a horrible drain smell coming from the bathroom. It was like going back in time. Whitby was nice but won't book the discovery again. W x L Yarwood Cheshire.

We stayed in Seabreeze 4 for a few nights at the end of October. The apartment had recently been completed refurbished to a very good standard. The apartment was light and airy, with a clean fresh feel. Whilst there was building work in the area it was not intrusive. Booking in on the first day was very easy, only daunting problem was the need for 3 pass codes for the 3 doors, but after getting our head around the numbers was easy. The apartment was well presented and comfortable, with all we needed for our short break. At this time of the year parking was not a problem.

Location was perfect, just down a side street in the middle of the town centre. This is a self catering apartment where you'll have a kitchen with cooker, fridge freezer and microwave etc. Ours slept 4 and was a great price, perfect for couples with or without children or small groups going on a holiday to Whitby. The receptionist was also very accomodating and stored our luggage for us when we arrived early and also after checking out.

We stayed in a nicely furnished and decorated apartment for a couple of nights, a good location for us — not too far from the town centre, but once the (highly recommended) Chippy on Silver Street shut for the evening also fairly quiet. Walls and floors quite thin though, I kept thinking one of our children was on the move when it was one upstairs! Parking is a problem but then that seems to be a common issue in Whitby — we were five minutes walk to the car. Would consider booking this again.

Great location and friendly staff.

Loved the hotel, great food and staff and a great central location for discovering Whitby plus great links to railway. Very hilly so people with walking difficulties may wish to use taxis or the local bus services which are located outside the hotel.

Filthy dirty room decorated in cheap old Ikea. Bed pillows stunk terribly and the duvet was grotty and not large enough for two adults. Room was never cleaned while I was there and despite only getting one towel each, we never got new/clean towels. Worst part of this place is the customer service. The only good thing I can say about this place was it's location in Whitby, UK.

Only came in to the bar but it's a classic British large seaside hotel. Quite old fashioned and no frills but in a god location.

Found property without any trouble. Fantastic team. Spotless inside and everything provided for our stay. Breakfast was lovely. Definitely going to re-book.

As a local whitby woman and in the hotel trade I find it very disappointing that in the last week ive had to help people find your accommodation you should have in place some communication for guests or at least a decent map of where they are staying very very poor service.
