Absolutely amazing stay for our 20th Wedding Anniversary, staff were amazing as was the food, rooms super clean with everything you could want, bath robes too! Looking forward to returning.

Food absolutely amazing! Such a shame that it's in quite an awkward location, but we didn't notice the road noise at all when we were sat in the dining room (and we were right next to the window). The Taste of Seafood starter was one of the best things I've ever eaten, and the pork was cooked to perfection. Really imaginative and different dishes, done beautifully well. Would definitely recommend.

One of the better dining venues in the area, it is a restaurant fit for special occasions, the room has oodles of character and you can almost believe you are sat in old quaint restaurant in France with crisp white table linen, great service and the light level just low enough to make the view through the windows sparkle. The food has never disappointed and there have been some outstanding dishes.

Lovely meal this afternoon… have drove past this lovely place many times So booked for lunch and was very impressive Service was great and lovely helpful waitress. Will definitely be going again even might stay over nite.

Really good food with excellent wine list. Staff very helpful. Bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and well decorated. Worth stopping there.

Recently stayed at the Tontine for my Husbands Birthday. Everything about our stay was fantastic. Room was lovely and spacious, staff where friendly and accommodating and we had a delicious breakfast. We left feeling very relaxed and will be visiting again.

Attended the murder mystery event tonight, it was brilliant!. Unfortunately my mum was taken ill, so we didn't see half of the performance. The staff were excellent, especially Wendy, who was amazing, what a asset to the company, went above and beyond to help my Mum. Paramedics were super efficient too. I do hope that you have another murder mystery event, you can be sure we will attend. Mum was tucked up comfortable when she got home and is making a quick recovery. Friendly staff, who were very good with my young nephew. Chateaubriand was cooked well, but the twice cooked chips tasted very plain and we're quite dry. We weren't offered the 2 and 3 course menu until my mum mentioned that she didn't like anything on the full menu.

The place looks excellent after all the work done. Still retains its original charm but looking much fresher now.

Nice and cozy please to stay, reasonable breakfast and nice location.

Great accommodation currently in process of being modernised. Food very good, generally nice county pub location. Helpful friendly staff.

Lovely surroundings, very pleasant staff and the lunch was just the right sized portions for people like us who don't like plates piled high.

Polite staff always first class service and time and time again people return. If you want a wonderful northern place to eat with great food and great people this is the place.

Service was very slow, they mixed up orders and forgot to even bring some of them out. Instead of getting assigned s waiter, we had many different staff asking us the same questions such as do you want to order drinks. Food was very expensive and poor for the price we paid for. My fiancées steak was well done when she asked for rare. We stayed over just over a year ago and were treated like royalty then. But last night (1st July 2017) it was as if they couldn't be bothered. We complained and we got one main and a cocktail free. But it's was just not good enough so we are not coming back to the tontine any time soon. Apparently they were taken over last year and things have obviously gone down hill quickly.

Really lovely bistro and inn, we stayed for one night and really enjoyed the food and loved the room. Would definitely stay again!

Friendly service. Booked for 2 people as a birthday treat. We were sat quite close to other couples. Not very private. Surroundings were theatrical but a little bit tired. Food nice but not outstanding!. As a first visit not overwhelmed. Would maybe try again but not a Saturday evening!.

The service was very good, they are always welcoming and accomodating as well as being more than happy to explain items on the menu to you. The food is delicious and come in portion sizes that aren't horrendously small as is the case in other places at a similar price range. Would definitely recommend to people for a special occasion.

The Tontine was a lovely location for a stay. The hotel is laid out well with a lovely bistro restaurant downstairs and large lounge/bar areas on the ground floor. The rooms are huge and each have a unique decor which may or may not be too your taste, regardless the facilities are excellent and to a very high standard. The breakfast was very enjoyable with a selection of cereals, yogurt, cold meats and cheeses to stay you off which can be followed by some hot breakfasts. The black pudding is homemade and is a must try. Our only gripe is the noise from the road which can be heard if you open your bedroom window.

Lovely atmosphere as always… only complaint would be that it was so warm!

Went to the Tontine for Afternoon Tea. Fantastic welcoming friendly and attentive staff, fabulous food, delicious loose leaf tea and beautiful surroundings — could not have asked for more! Would thoroughly recommend!

Amazing dining, good to see the change over of head chef had not affected the quality. 5 stars.
