Great view, service. Just a lovely hotel with lots of character.

We came with our WI ladies for the 3 course lunch. I have to have a GF diet and there was good choices for me. The two waiters we had were lovely polite witg a good sense of humour 😀

Excellent service, staff very polite and helpful, plenty of room between tables and disabled friendly. Very pleasant room and atmosphere Food is the best.

We went for an afternoon Prosecco tea. The staff were wonderful and so was the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were delicious both the Festive and the vegetarian. The Scones with Clotted Cream were delicious and warm. The other cakes were also top draw. Will definitely be returning to do this again. Thank you Hydro for a wonderful afternoon.

Beautiful Hotel. This was my first time there, all staff made you feel welcome when you entered and show you where your party was.

Exceptional service. Management and staff friendly and accommodating. Stunning original interior of hotel, fabulous views directly over the sea from huge conservatory and beautiful grounds.

Enjoyed an excellent high tea at the hydro the staff provided an excellent service which I will look forward to visiting again next year with my son and his beautiful wife.

A beautiful place, several entertaining rooms with lounge areas. Excellent customer service, good choice of food & well presented. Clean, spacious & deco in keeping with the historic period of the building. Peaceful surroundings both inside & out. Would recommend a visit here & plan to return soon.

This was a lockdown birthday celebratory meal for my husband. 3-course meal plus wine ordered by email and delivered to our door lunchtime today. The meal was delicious, excellently cooked and very generous servings. A very good experience all round. Well worth a try.

Myself and Dave were so thrilled to have won the valentines meal for 2. It was absolutely perfect and just what we needed. It was delivered earlier than expected by a very friendly man, the bubbly was chilled and food was wrapped well and all hot. The menu chosen was very similar to our wedding meal and it really was delicious. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for a wonderful treat. We are so lucky and so grateful xxxxx.

Had Christmas lunch in the Crystal Restaurant today. It was a shame it was so quiet due to Tier 2 lockdown, but it was nicely decorated, the service was superb and the food was absolutely delicious. It’s been 5 hours since we left the restaurant and I am still full!

Very helpful and friendly, very nice conservatory for coffee or lunch with family or friends, rooms clean with good facilities, plenty of places to sit in the lounge, dining area very well thought out, all a very good place to enjoy a nice break.

Lovely room overlooking the sea, nice meal last night and great breakfast, flying visit so didn't use any other facilities, but a fabulous location just outside the main town.

Wonderful sea views, lovely conservatory and attractive garden. Pleasant, polite staff. Great food. All in a traditional setting which takes you back but with a bit of a modern twist now refurbishments have taken place.

Charming hotel, lovely staff, good facilities. At the quieter Beachy head end of Eastbourne but still walking distance to town if you wanted. Lovely to have a swim in the outdoor pool during our stay. Felt safe for hotel guests and staff from a Covid perspective. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Beautiful old hotel, friendly staff, good food.

Superb hotel. We started visiting after choosing it as our wedding venue. Our wedding weekend, with most of our guests staying at the hotel, we as fantastic. The staff are brilliant doing all they can to give you the best experience. We have since been to events there, had afternoon tea and, sadly, my mother’s wake there. Every occasion is beautifully handled and the setting high up overlooking the sea is stunning.

We got married at the hotel on 14/09/19 what a lovely venue. All staff we very friendly and helpful the food was the best I've eaten in a hotel would highly recommended this hotel for any future events.

Went to the most lovely homely informal wedding held at this venue. The staff were exceptional in looking after the lovely couple. It’s was a meeting of hearts minds and life long friends.

The best description I can think of is old fashioned hospitality. We had dinner at the Crystal restaurant. Staff were charming and kind to everyone but need slowing down a little. Enjoyed listening to the pianist who played our requests beautifully.
The food exceeded expectations and wine was reasonably priced. A little disappointed with our table and asked to be moved but told this wasn’t possible. A lot of other tables we could have been moved to weren’t used.
Definitely caters more for the older generation, I’m 70 this year but like to think I act like someone much younger and prefer restaurants with clients of all ages.
A memorable evening!

Afternoon tea was lovely food, staff friendly and good location, only things I could mention are paper napkins probably nicer if real ones and nicer cups n saucers rather than the big standard white cups, all in all a nice afternoon tea.

The staff was very friendly we come in for lunch and they was very polite and the food was great would defo recommend it x.

Looking forward to a birthday vegan afternoon tea but it was terrible. One choice of sandwich which was dry as no dairy free spread. The lemon cake was dry. The only redeeming cake was the brownie! Vegans do have taste buds! I cannot recommend this to anyone.

My friend treated me for my birthday to Afternoon Tea, it was one of the best ones we have eaten, Scones were moist and the homemade cakes were amazing especially the chocolate eclairs, overlooking the beautiful gardens and sea for the perfect setting, would highly recommend a visit here.

Recently had afternoon Tea for my Mums 80th at the Hydro. An absolutely brilliant afternoon with great food and excellent service. I would recommend The Hydro for any family occasion!

The garden is such a beautiful setting. Amazing lawn and views out to the sea. The staff were very welcoming and all so smartly dressed. A hotel full of character that has modernised, but kept all its lovely historic charm. Ideal place for a relaxing morning coffee.

A quaint and elegant hotel set on a hill with stunning sea views looking south, breakfasts were good and plenty, a lovely garden area and a small swimming pool, large conservatory a large bar area, plenty of seating area, s in and around hotel. Bedrooms were clean and roomy with a small fridge and safe insitu. Would stay here again.

We were guests when we visited for a lunch appointment at 13.00 on Thursday 27th of July. We were informed not when we were ushered to our table, but after 15 minutes, that lunches were running 20 minutes late. That was not correct. It was almost 14.00 before the food arrived. The food was excellent. But we were reluctant to order a sweet or tea/coffee because it may another 55 minutes. Apparently you only had one chef on duty. David Cooke.

Wonderful ambience, went as part of a party of 48, meals had been pre-ordered. Starter and sweet were both excellent, however the main course (roast beef with all the trimmings) was disappointing. It had all the signs of having been kept hot for too long, the gravy was late arriving as were the Yorkshire puddings (which were cold). Part of the problem seems to be that the service wasn't properly co-ordinated.

The hotel is beautiful. Outside area is gorgeous. The views stunning. There are no umbrellas by the swimming pool. The food is unfortunately really poor. They use the worst produce. Continue to visit and stay but really hope they change the produce they use. The presentation is great but the taste of everything is terrible. Please can you change your food suppliers?

I was advised that they did not know if they had service in the garden on a warm sunny day! Very odd! Some of the staff could not understand some requests regarding the food order. The worst thing is the seagulls dive bombing you in the garden when you are trying to eat. You cannot eat food outside in the garden, which is a real shame as the gardens are stunning.

Stayed at this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary as a special treat to ourselves from the moment we checked in we were made to feel welcome. Fantastic staff. Room was very nice with a lovely sea view and the complementary upgrade was a nice touch. Breakfast was great. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody and would stay there again.

Used for ages. A wonderful blast from the past. Always think Poirot will mince into the lounge. Great atmosphere and shortbread.

The most immaculate and well presented hotel I have ever stayed in. Staff are friendly and polite, helpful and always smiling. Hotel room was a tad warm and no air conditioning but thst aside, no complaints at all.

Loud music being played late night. If I wanted loud music all night long id go ibiza. Not a family friendly hotel. My 3 yr old daughter could not sleep as result of it.

Lovely hotel, with unparalel views from the rooms. It's a little walk away from the hustle of the pier and busy beaches. The hotel is favourited by more senior crowd but that means is quiet and relaxing, good atmosphere for those trying to get away from party crowds. We haven't gotten a chance to have dinner as did not reserve a table in advance — make sure to do so! however reception will recommend where to go if you forget. Cream tea was lovely and breakfast was really good, great value, reasonable pricing.

Spent a wonderful night in the Hydro on 29th May 2018, Fantastic facilities and brilliant staff, great location! Can't wait to stay there again!

Had a lovly teas, cake and sandwiches afternoon here for a quiet birthday catch up, wanted it earlier but the earliest they do it from 3pm up till 5pm. We will definitely go again.

Attended a lovely afternoon tea for a baby shower. The allocated staff couldn't be anymore helpful. Lovely day.

We got a free upgrade to a room with a sea view. The view is really wonderful. Good breakfast, comfortable room and friendly staff.

Visited their massage therapy. Saw Frank. Absolutely excellent, highly recommend him. Went as I had pain in back, neck, shoulders and was suffering with migraines. Sorted my pain out. He was very respectful. Note: He doesn't have a chaperone so if you are nervous about seeing him on your own, take someone with you.

We stayed for 1 night to cheer up January! There were 9 of us & we all agreed that everything was first class, lovely rooms excellant bathrooms, very high standard of cleanliness. Food great, will be revisiting.

I attended the Hotel to provide entertainments for a Wild West Party. This is a Super Venue for Events, the staff were very polite and immaculately dressed the Function Room was super, very clean and tidy with a lovely view at the front overlooking the sea — Highly Recommend for Events — Weddings, Corporate, Birthdays etc… Many Thanks Andy Ultimate Rodeo Bulls.

Was treated to 3 course lunch in the restaurant. It was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful swapping the chair for me so I could have one with arms. The building is very elegant and has great views and plenty of parking. Also has accessible toilets and lots of suitable chairs around for the less mobile. If I were to come back to Eastbourne I would consider staying here even though a bit away from town centre.

Expect to see Poirot waiting in reception! Rather dated decor but traditional cream teas are scrummy. Great jewellery in display cabinets. Bedrooms are being upgraded and those completed, have a fresh modern appearance. Staff need to smile a little more!

Lovely place, looks good and well kept, had good service from friendly staff. My only issue was with the food, it was quite inconsistent, some of us had rather anemic roasties whereas others were a bit overdone etc. Overall I enjoyed my visit and would go again.

It's a grand hotel. A little old fashioned. I seemed to be the youngest there and I'm 60. Would I eat there or stay there again — Yes.

Celebratedd our ruby wedding anniversary having Sunday lunch with family and friends; excellent service and our waiter was very attentive. We all had a wonderful time.

Great location by the Eastbourne seaside. Grand old hotel that is nice and clean. For for breakfast a little disappointing though.

I have been to the Hydro several occasions in the past few years. Including staying here on a few occasions. A few meals in the restaurant. Afternoon teas and a large family wedding held here. On all occasions I have been very impressed with all aspects of the hotel and it's staff and high standards. This has now become a family favourite hotel experience, and we always look forward to the next occasion.

We've been coming here for a few years now. It is a charming old English hotel with friendly service and previously a good standard of food. I was however disappointed with our last visit. The steak was poor and chewy, luckily I still have all my own teeth, ha! The pepper source was very running and watery. After our meal we adjourned to the conservatory as usual, however surprisingly every table was reserved so we had to sit in the less appealing alcove in the corridor. The overall ambience was not improved by what appeared to be an ongoing altercation or quarrel between an older waiter and young waitress. We will return later this year and hopefully by then normal service will be resumed.

Amazing hotel, the room we've got, the Sussex room is stunning! The view is amazing and the food is divine. The only slight problem is that the bed is quite soft and the duvet too hot. But the rest of the hotel makes up for that!

We were put in the Sussex Suite which has a beautiful sea view, king sized bed, large bath and living area. We stayed for breakfast, dinner and tea and the food was delicious. The outdoor pool is nice and warm. The area isn't very central but it's a short walk from the Italian Gardens and the SWD.

This a historic hotel; to walk in is like a trip back to the 1930s. While the hotel has modern facilities and amenities, teh decor and ambience is straight from a more elegant time. The hotel makes an excellent wedding venue, with good quality food and access to a garden and terrace for your guests.

Stylish, friendly and professional: all with a touch of everything classic and traditional. It's not the best looking hotel, but inside is a different kettle of fish. It's not the place to go for a drink with your mates, but ideal to take elderly parents or a great aunt.

We had our wedding here on Saturday the 1 July and the staff were absolutely amazing and it was the best time we all had the Sussex suite was absolutely beautiful too I highly recommend this hotel to everyone

A nice well kept establishment situated in a pleasant residential area just outside of town. The location is fine if you don't mind walking as parking in the visitor parts of Eastbourne is non existent so, once parked up best to leave the car where it is.
My wife and I stayed just one night on 1 June and I suspect that we chose the worst weekend possible as with no water from Saturday night onwards we departed without a shower but only after having to wait an hour to be served breakfast. When my haddock finally arrived it looked and tasted like it had been on someone else's plate before it found its way to me. My wife's full English was fine though but we don't know the outcome of the couples either side of us as after over an hour, we left them still waiting. It was funny though, the delay was blamed on the unexpected rush during what must be the most popular time for breakfast on a Sunday morning and, over hearing one complainer asking why he should be suffering due to a large wedding party getting preference, the waiter said he was the one suffering on £7.50 an hour! This just about sums it up, the waiting staff we're getting all the flak and not a manager to be seen.
Needless to say the guests of the hotel were in uproar and rightly so but most were venting their anger on the reception staff when they were checking out and again they appeared to have been left to it by the management team whom were conspicuous by their absence.

The Hydro held my mum's wedding reception on Saturday. The atmosphere was great with lots of great opportunities to take wedding photos. The staff were great and were very professional. I'd like to thank. Those who were working Saturday for helping make my mum's special day a brilliant one.

We stayed for one night and had a sea view room which had been refurbished. It was very nice and comfortable. This is our third visit to the hotel and as always the staff make the stay. The food is wonderful and we especially like the breakfast as it is cooked fresh for you and not on a buffet style. We will visit again during the summer. Thank you to the staff.

We attended a wedding at The Hydro and had a fantastic time. Although we didn't stay the night our experience of the wedding and reception was very very good. The staff were friendly, helpful and worked their socks off to make sure everyone had a good time. The food was superb and plentiful. Actually, we wished we'd stayed the night after all.

A nice looking hotel. We stayed with other members of our family for a 40th wedding anniversary. The hotel is very popular with the "older" generation and being in our 30's with two young children we seemed a little out of place here. The room was comfortable but not overwhelming. For the tariff my expectation was high and I was left a little disappointed. There was no wow factor as far as I was concerned. Maybe I'm too used to staying in good 'ol Premier Inns. Breakfast, again, was plain and lacking the "wow" factor. No high chairs for kids and the occasional stare from the room full of swinging 70's made the event somewhat edgy. Add this to the fact that we were unceremoniously moved from the table we had chosen next to the rest of our party because other guests had been sitting at that table all week. Oh to be retired! The staff were polite and our waiter was efficient. Is that enough for a return visit? Safe to say that another stay at the Hydro is off the agenda.
