1st time visiting, staying for 2 nights. Ate in restaurant tonight, food absolutely amazing, huge portions but so good you don’t want to leave it. Would definitely come back.

Great service and great food would definitely recommend it.

The food was lovely but the place was absolutely freezing. Having to wear your jackets because your so cold is not what I or other diners wanted for a family meal. Either close the door Shandwick or put some heating on in that part of the restaurant!

Fabulous food great prices amazing service portions are unreal had to take the pudding home.

We stopped here for Sunday lunch today. The roasts were absolutely amazing! My husband has been a chef for a very long time and he also really enjoyed lunch. In these times the environment was clean and spacious the staff used both face masks and visors. You are also ask if you can view the menu online, which I thought was a fantastic idea.

Absolutely wonderful food and excellent service from the two lovely girls that were on tonight, food was fresh, hot and very well presented.

Really good selection of meals to suit all tastes. Serving sizes are bigger than average, so if you want a pudding — and you CANT NOT have the home made cheese cake! — suggest you don’t have a starter.
Price wise excellent value for money.
Children catered for and seating outside for those with dogs. Interior a bit drab — could really do with a freshen up. Always seems to be a rather young (and in some instances inexperienced team). Manager not apparent.
I’ve read many of the reviews on here and I’m not too surprised by the claims of poor service. However, We’ve been here many times and haven’t had a bad experience yet.
Yes the service team are quite young, but they have been quite attentive.
It does get very busy, especially in the warmer months, so I suspect they struggle a bit then.
Definitely worth trying though.

The shandwick Inn is just off the A9 between Invergordon and Tain. Great place for lunch or dinner. It's a traditional bar food restaurant. The decor is traditional but has a cosy feel. At busy times you're best to book a table. There is also a function room out the back which is great for parties and is free if you have over a certain number of people eating. In the last couple of years they have offered a take away menu, which is the normal menu. My mum has MS so i…t can be tiring for her to get ready to go out for a meal so the take away is perfect. The food is all freshly prepared and the portions are big, the other day me and mum shared a main meal (veggie korma) and dessert (apple crumble and custard) and we were stuffed. I love on a Sunday getting a roast dinner. It arrives in a large silver tray, you just peel off the lid and it is ready to eat, Yorkshire pudding and all. If you want to be extra lazy you can eat it out the tray and save on dishes, I have done this.

We arrived as a table of 4 adults and 4 kids. I asked the waitress if they had space for us and she said yes. We then waited 50minutes for our food and had poor service from who I assume to be head waitress or bar manager. The ladies toilets had no loo roll and only one working cubicle, no working hand dryer and no paper towels. My sister in law alerted the staff to this and when I went to the bathroom with my daughter 20 minutes later the situation was still the same. Food was actually nice but wouldn’t recommended based on the poor service. We did complain to no response.

Four of us for dinner, two Gammon, one veggie lasagna and a Haddock and chips, all superb. Service was fast and cheerful. Definitely will return in the future.

The service is very very slow, think this is due to the age of the servers or head server didn't feel there was a leader there overseeing things. The waiting time to get our orders taken and our food and drink was not what I expected as we had to ask many times regarding missing drinks and food to be told it was just coming. Willing to give the place another go.

Lovely dinner we had reasonably priced very large portions wife had to get doggy bag.

Good accommodation in the cottage. The private bathroom. Heating working in June. You can dine at a good price. Very friendly staff.

Excellent food. I call many times when I am touring Scotland. Absolutely excellent food every time. I always try something different and the quality never disappoints me. Well worth a visit.

The food was absolutely amazing. Great portion sizes. Full flavours for the two meat dishes and two vegetarian dishes. Service was very slow even though there were many staff members and not many diners. The individual waitresses were lovely — it was the lack of attention. There is an outdoor playground for younger children.

Country pub setting and down to earth. Can be busy at times, good food, half portions allowed on several dishes. Reasonable prices, the only downside is service is slow.

Stayed here as a hotel guest, when we arrived to be told the rooms weren’t ready as they have been very busy… staff were very friendly though. We stayed in the out building in the car park… the closest thing I can relate it to is a shed… it wasn’t the cleanest, some of the lights didn’t work, it was dark and dingy! The bathroom looked like it needed a good clean. There was a TV in the room but it struggled to get a signal. Didn’t rate the diy continental breakfast, but for the price of the room I wasn’t worried about the breakfast. In the morning when we came to leave at 09:00 the pub was all locked up and we could not find anyone to give the keys too… not impressed.

We just had the most amazing meal and drinks, including the most beautiful venison, steaks and gorgeous duck! The food was beautifully cooked and everyone has been just lovely and amazing! We just rocked up to The Shandwick Inn on our way from John O’Groats to to Land’s End with three ponies, three dogs and five people! We asked if they knew anywhere we could pull the lorry off the road, pen the ponies and set up camp and they said that we could use the front lawn! We have ju…st got into the tent for the night after filling out bellies and having an amazing hot shower and will set off on horseback again tomorrow having had the best possible start! Thank you so much to all of you! We can’t tell you how much we appreciate you putting us up for the night!

Service very slow need more staff only 1 lady and a chef. This is the second time we have tried and the service is to slow. The food however is good massive portions. Priced very reasonable too.

Love going to the Shandwick Inn for a meal. Wanted a quiet place to have a 50th birthday meal and this is where we went. Food great and staff can`t do enough for you. Myself and my partner both had the lasagne it`s amazing and my daughter had the chicken korma which I tried and was amazing too. Great food highly recommend.

I first visited the Shandwick Inn about 40 years ago. The service and the food then were simply outstanding. My partner and I still regularly visit the Shandwick. Although the ownership has changed, the quantity and the quality of the food remains superb, the staff are happy and smiling and very welcoming and I would recommend this place to one and all. They set the standard that most eateries aspire to.

Love this place. Proper home cooked food, plenty of it, no fuss. Big car park. Booking advisable as usually gets busy. We'll worth a visit.

Everytime I go to the Shandwick Inn they provide generous offerings. I struggle to finish my meal. The premises is a cosy place to spend the evening. In addition to the eating area there is a pub space with a pool table available. The staff are also very pleasant.

I always have a good experience at The Shandwick Inn. The food is always delicious, the staff are polite, the portions are more than generous amounts and it is reasonably priced. The only 2 slight issues I have is that they have taken the Chicken, Bacon and Garlic Pasta off the menu and they run out of cheesecake on a regular basis. Other than that, this is one of my favourite local restaurants to go to.

Getting better again thankfully as I stopped visiting this place due to the food quality and service being poor. My wife had got food poisoning here a few months ago from a burger she ate. Glad its a lot better now and hopefully they manage to keep hold of the chef's and current staff :)

Visit here every few weeks. Staff are lovely and food is great, huge portion sizes well worth the money.

Just been to this restaurant and I could not empty my plate and the chef provided a platter that was without doubt the best food served I have been to, the steak just dropped away from the fork, the potatoes did the same, I was embarrassed to leave my plate with so much I left on it because it made me feel I had insulted the chefs creation, sorry chef.

My second visit for lunch while passing through. Once again the food was amazing & the huge portions are so worth the money. A real hidden gem. Definitely recommend a visit.

Very good food and good portions but let down by the dark wornout building. Needs a complete refurb.

Nice hotel. Easy parking.

The food is fantastic huge portions and very tasty well cooked food. The rooms are nice and you get a very peaceful and comfortable sleep. The only downside is there is only one toilet and shower for all 6 or 7 rooms, might be better if they at least had 2 toilets. There is a well equipped kitchen where you help yourself to your breakfast (self service), choice in cereals teas and coffees, as well as some nice cheese and ham.

Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere apart from the one overweight waiter who is extremely rude and disrepectful towards both staff and customers.

Shandwick Inn is a great place for food and drink and I can highly recommend a visit if in the area. I personally love the Belgium waffles for desert and make sure to visit anytime I end up in this part of Scotland.

The best cheesecake in the world. Fantastic friendly staff and the cottage we stayed in was perfect.

Lovely food and friendly service. Stopped here Saturday tea time. Service was slow but I'm told there was an event on. I will revise this review if we have quicker service next time we visit. Multiple places with single or double steps. Poorly lit inside.

Lousy service. Table booked for 5.30 but had to wait twenty minutes to be seated even though tables were empty and not particularly busy. Once seated waited another fifteen minutes and still not had a menu nor drinks order taken. Couple at next table were the same yet a family who arrived after both of us got menus and drinks, had enough at that point and complained to bar staff and left. Thought that the service had improved after hearing feedback from others but obviously not, will not be returning.
