Smaller than average portion,, frozen (and cold chips, mushy peas) not the best lunch, not be visiting here again in a hurry.

Just had a lovely meal at the Surf and Turf restaurant. Everyone was so helpful and courteous. The meal itself was delicious and the view of the old course was the icing on the cake.
Special thanks to Alana who went out of her way to advise us on our choice. Great asset to the hotel.

Stayed at the Road Hole room as part of a 35th anniversary trip. A wonderful room. The staff was above and beyond accommodating. The location to the old course is second to none along with access to the rest of St. Andrews. Quite possibly our favorite place during the entire visit. Its on the list for a return trip.

If Golf is your game, your passion and your life this hotel works. Its right ‘there’. A drafty tired old hotel full of gore-tex wearing golf fanatics. Booked three rooms here and we were situated in the far corners of the hotel. When we asked rooms together (we were travelling with an 80-year old) we were told we arrived too late and all rooms were taken at 5pm. Clearly we do not understand how the game is played. No lovely sea-view rooms for us, we were tucked away in the vaults of the building. Its like staying in a run down clubhouse of a club you are not a member of.

The hotel staff is amazing! Our luggage had been lost by the airlines, and the nigh manager, Ian Cameron, as well as Kelly & Laura all worked on our behalf to locate and get it returned to us. That required hours on the phone and continuous checking on our behalf. In addition, the room was magical — elegant and spacious with views of the St. Andrews Old Course.

Quality hotel, amazing location. A golfer's dream. But it's the excellent staff that make this hotel. Right down from the General Manager all the way to the waiting staff. Simply excellent! Out it on your bucket list!

Extremely disappointing We booked a room for a night in this hotel to end our wonderful trip in Scotland, we wanted to treat ourselves for this occasion. … We will for sure remember it: we had a ground floor room, view on the street. The room was clean but outmoded, a nice refreshing wouldn’t have been a luxury! But above all, there was none sound-insulation: between the noises of the cars and our room neighbor, who was unfortunately insomniac that night and made us share her TV program and her phone calls half of the night. My partner went to the reception desk 3 times to inform them about it, one of the employees even went to the room at 5 in the morning to notice the noises. After an almost sleepless night, we went to the reception desk for check out, and the receptionist asked us if we had a pleasant stay! No communication between the team, no apologies, a perception of “too bad for you”. We have already stayed in hotels of this standing, therefore we have been very upset by the lack of service and professionalism of the staff, and by the dilapidation of our room. I think that one of the priorities of a hotel is to make sure their clients feel good and mostly that they can sleep! We had a standard room admittedly, but that cost more than 320 euros for a night. We found this unacceptable. It is really below what we can expect from a hotel like this.

Great hotel! Rooms have great views of the Old Course & the water. Beds are very comfortable and rooms have good space. Bathrooms are nice. Highly recommend the hotel breakfast, especially the full MacDonald breakfast. All the staff were wonderful; very professional and helpful. Location is convenient to shopping, pubs, restaurants, golf courses, sightseeing (must see East Neuk of Fife! ) Hotel has a restaurant and separate bar upstairs both with great views and a restaurant/bar downstairs that is very cozy. Hotel also has a designated room for golf clubs so you don't have to lug them in and out of your room. Overall a wonderful visit.

Excellent stay at this hotel. The location is absolutely perfect for being a tourist in St Andrews. Our room was a lot larger and nicer than expected, staff was friendly, and the included breakfast was delicious with many choices. Overlooks the 1st/18th hole of the Old Course, and easily walkable in minutes to the main downtown area of St Andrews. We will definitely return.

First visit. Lovely staff, food and service. Could use some maintenance but overall a keeper. Very nice breakfast. Nice comfortable room overlooking the course. Probably the worst golf art in existence but to be expected. No, its really so bad that its good. Actually it's awful. Great place.

Venue very hot had full heating on, very uncomfortable had to be moved to another table near windows that did not open. Tea and gin delicious at the afternoon tea. But cakes left a lot to be desired. Parking was a nightmare.

Very nice hotel. Exceptional location it would be perfect if there was hot water in the bathrooms.

Customer service will not work with customers. Had booked two nights. Flights were cancelled due to the snow. Couldn’t make it to the hotel. Customer service will not refund money and has not returned my many phone calls. They’ve even gone to the great links to block me on Twitter. Just making sure everyone understands what type of service you can expect if you can’t get to the hotel. I guess I should have walked to the hotel or rented snow dogs.

Went for afternoon tea. The public spaces in this grand old lady from the Victorian Age are impeccably kept, the bar and restaurant with their famous views of the Old Course and West Sands beyond, the Front Hall usually with a roaring fire. Staff is very attentive, doesn't lose composure even as the place fills up, and is consistently friendly.

This is comfortable hotel and the staff are very attentive. Be aware when booking that some of the bedrooms on the fourth floor are not reached by the lift, so you need to be fit enough to climb a flight of stairs. The food was a bit over cooked for our taste, but when we complained the waiting staff and restaurant manager dealt with our issues and we were given a substantial reduction off our food bill.

We Love staying at this hotel. The location, the staff, the food and most importantly the beds. Everything is superb. The beds are the best sleep I have ever had. The food is of the highest standard and all wonderfully presented. The rooms are immaculate, I would very much recommend this hotel for a scenic break away, and in my opinion some of the finest coastline I have experienced. 5 stars very much recommend!

Had a nice midweek break in the Arnold Palmer room which had spectacular views to the 18th fairway and green of the Old Course and to the beach. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay though husband had a mild grumble about the food service in the One Under pub. He thought it was a bit chaotic. I was quite happy with it. We got to take our dog and she was made very welcome. I would hope to be back!

Good location on the edge of town. Service quality varied throughout our stay; rooms also of mixed size/quality.

Customer service was non existent! Receptionist was very rude to our party on arrival. The receptionist phoned me the day before arrival to book a table for dinner which we did for 7.30pm, but arriving in restaurant we were told we didn't have any booking! No apology given even though it was their error. Room was very dark and in need of some tlc. View from window was awful — see picture attached. Will definitely not be returning.

I stayed at the MacDonald on business and overall felt the hotel was ok but nothing to write home about…
I arrived and the staff on reception were pleasant and the hotel itself was easy to find. The car park is very small though but luckily I managed to get a space.
The main issue I had was when I got to my room, it was so cold that it actually hit me as soon as I opened the door! The hallway was actually warmer. I was in room 25 and interestingly I saw other reviews that said the same. I looked around the room for heating but there was just a poor heater in the corner which didn’t give off much heat. It was so cold that I couldn’t sleep and had to call reception for a spare blanket (which took 20 minutes to arrive). I also felt like the cleaners didn’t really do much on my second day. Usually when you stay in a hotel, everything is neatly put back in its place but they’d left things on the sides and floor and hadn’t even bothered to clean the loo. I would’ve mentioned these at time of check out but the receptionist didn’t even ask how my stay was…
Food was ok but again, nothing really special. Sadly I won’t be staying here again on my next visit to St Andrews and won’t be recommending the hotel to my colleagues.

Every single member of staff have been extremely pleasant, smiley and attentive. We have felt very special during our stay with so many staff going above and beyond to make our stay a memorable and comfortable one. Great food and beautiful decor. We will definitely be returning. We have not received service like this in such a long time. Attention to detail: Glasses filled with wine and never empty, napkins picked up the second they were dropped on the floor, staff personally walking us to areas of the hotel, warm welcomes to each section of the hotel as we joined a new room and lastly before we even arrived at the front door we had been spotted in the car park and the porter ran out to help us in with our bags. Impeccable service!

A beautiful place enjoyed a few nights with my husband. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food amazing drink was cheaper than at the central up the town. Would highly recommend here. We will be back again in the near future. Hopefully we get the same view as this time.

What more could a person want! Sleeping right next to the oldest greatest golf course in the World! There is something special about this hotel and the history of the worlds greatest golf players who have walked past this magnificent hotel, over looking the 18th fairway. The rooms are so lovely, the hotel staff are so friendly. A credit goes to everyone involved with this hotel and a world class service is guaranteed! From the decor, the rooms, the food, the location and the friendly and most welcoming staff, this is a place every visitor or local person needs to experience!

We went to Rocca at The Rusacks St Andrews for my birthday with friends. The food, staff, view & the ambience were excellent. The fillet steak was to die for. We had the best table overlooking the 1st & 18th of the Old Course. I just can't say enough about the food it was the best meal Ihave had in a long time & I've had many. I 'll remember this birthday for a long time. Thanks.

Honestly I was disappointed … The room was at best tired cracked tiles and bird pooh on Windows …
The staff are great … Feel a bit underwhelmed by the pricing vs value we booked a dinner bed and breakfast with a bottle of prosecco. That they tried to charge twice for the wine which was in the deal and then to find they only allow £25 per head for dinner is less than great value. The dinner policy has to be clearer! Think we would have had better value booking without dinner! Excellent staff and location is peerless just not sure it was worth it. Put a bit of a damper on the anniversary.

We had afternoon tea on wed for 5, While the selection of food was adaquate. The service was atrocious. There were only 2 tables in the restaurant and it seems 5 staff could not cope. They seemed to spend all of their time following each other about and never out of the kitchen. We asked for wine which was plonked on the table and we were left to pour it ourselves had I not managed to get a waitress and asked her to pour it. There were items missing for the tea i. E. Milk, not enough jam no butter. I had to ask for these. The other table was at a loss also, I watched as a man from there had to go to the service table and lift a jug of water and go round filling up his companions glasses, STAFF! all in the kitchen. All in all, can you blame the staff, well they are only as good as their line managers. It was a special birthday treat for my friend and I was embarrassed for the treatment we received. Not sure I would recommend nor return.

Beautiful views, great service and wonderful surroundings.

The hotel offers a spectacular view of the first and eighteenth holes on the Old Course. Service is friendly, attentive and responsive. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Food was excellent. Housekeeping was reliable and efficient. Don't expect a US style hotel… after all, this is Scotland and a vintage hotel!

My wife, daughter and I spent a lovely evening at the Hotel recently. The staff were very pleasant and the view from the room assigned was excellent.

We have just spent 2 nights at Rusacks. We had a wonderful stay. The food and staff were wonderful. We had a problem with the cold water tap in the bath. We reported it and it was dealt with cheerfully and immediately. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fabulous location for Golfers. However the service was not as you would expect. The staff appeared to be poorly motivated.
