Had lunch there today, great food and service, Dee was especially helpful and friendly. Although they were busy they still managed to come out with birthday cake for my Mum. Will definitely be back soon.

Superb food amazing quality for the price, relaxing and beautiful surroundings in lounge and restaurant throughout building nice reception area and seating, lovely staff our room was nice and clean large wardrobe space two TV screens one in bed area and one beside sitting area had a really good weekend staying here I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Haggis bonbons are delicious as was all the tapas we ordered but oh them bonbons also great pint friendly staff and gorgeous ladies room great big thumbs up.

Had a great family holiday at the Golden Lion. Very highly recommended as a central base for visiting Scotland. Staff were so helpful and courteous. Thanks to June, Chloe, Basil and all the team at Golden Lion — we will definitely be back for another 5 Star experience.

As much a local landmark as a hotel, the Golden Lion sits in the centre of town, firmly on the bus tour trail to the historical sites of the town. Robert Burns stayed here, apparently. The bar is nice, good selection of beers and whiskies. I have eaten breakfast here, once, and couldn't recommend it. Pretty grim stuff, dry eggs, limp sausages and over strong luke warm corporate coffee.

Absolutely excellent night seeing Janey Godley and a great venue. Also must say the bar staff were excellent too, so quick and very polite. Thank you. X.

Great location in the heart of Stirling, a 10 minute walk to the castle. A buffet breakfast is included but there is only Wi-Fi in the lobby area. The rooms can get warm as there is no a/c. There is a car park behind the building but space is limited. Accessibility may be an issue for some since there are 2-3 stairs in some hallways even after taking the lift.

I spent one night here along with the breakfast buffet. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. There was internet in my room, Wi-Fi, as well as implements to make tea or coffee. Checking in was really easy, and the old style keys were a nice touch. Sometimes those pesky electronic cards can be a pain, and it was nice having more personal contact with the staff when I went out by leaving my key behind at the front desk. It just felt nice to be able to do that and have those little personal moments with a friendly staff that we seem to miss out on so often. Their breakfast was very varied with fruits, the full English, haggis (freshly caught I was told), orange juice, and your choice of coffee or tea brought to you in a convenient little pot. Seriously, the breakfast was phenomenal. This hotel has been around for quite some time, which makes it a really cool place to visit. It has history. Also, it is centrally located, I had a very easy time finding it, and walking around the town felt like a breeze. If there was a ghost, I never felt one. Thank you for such a great place!

Always love visiting the Golden Lion when we are in Stirling. Great atmosphere, good food and service. Skip the trendy coffee shops and give it a go.

Difficult place to find in the one way system and don't go for a single room as it's a cupboard in the attic. Looks nice on the ground floor but that's as good as it gets. Staff are helpful.

Fantastic hotel in a great location. Booked a family room which was much larger than expected, also travelled with my mum who uses a wheelchair and plenty of space in room to manouver chair and store without it being in the way. Room was spotless and very nicely furnished and decorated. All of the staff were very friendly and helpul at all times. Stair lift at front of hotel was great for getting out with wheelchair and also disabled parking at back of hotel which led to the main lift to all floors. We ate in the restaurant and all enjoyed our meal and the good selection of menus, Also had high tea in the bar and found this to be very enjoyable. Great stay and would stay again, location is great a few minutes walk from shopping mall and plenty of cafes and restaurants.

Good food and even better service! Great place to bring your family while touring Sterling. Venison burger topped with Haggis was my lunch meal. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal as well.

Almoçamos num grupo da Special Tours em que estávamos com espanhóis. O meu salmão veio cru e não estava gostoso. Não permiram que o grupo sentasse em mesas que estavam vagas (o grupo queria fazer isso para não separar os casais). Deixaram o grupo de turismo sentar em apenas três mesas. Houve famílias e casais separados por essa rigidez. Não recomendo.

Not really good. The 4 bed rooms are not small, but also not so large. But hygiene is the worst. Out in the hallway it's dirty and it doesn't look pretty. The floor in the bathroom was loose. Wi-Fi can also be knick in the room. The only place where Wi-Fi works is the lobby. Breakfast: The biggest disaster. The glasses and plates are dirty, the windows are dirty and the choice is not good either. The tables were not clean even though we were the first at the table. Verdict: I'll never go there again. And I don't recommend it any further because it's just bad.

Always a lovely place for a drink with friends lovely atmosphere great selection of food and drink. Would recommend to others.

Attended The Golden Lion Hotel for a recent private conference event. Due to a number of road works and street diversions we had a bit of difficulty finding the car park at the rear of the hotel. It was fairly small and I would recommend you arrive early if you want to use their spaces. The rear of the hotel doesn't do the inside justice. The bar and dining area is very nice and modern and we enjoyed sitting there for a drink prior to the event. The function rooms upstairs are spacious bit not finished to as high a standard and a more traditional feel. Staff were all friendly and the venue served the purpose.

I was there for a meeting. The staff did not acknowledge any of us trying to find the meeting room which was very poorly signposted. The room itself had wallpaper peeling off the wall and was very tired in its appearance.

A great hotel for Scottish standards. My 4stars refer to the German standard. From the outside it looks like a nice little hotel, but the entrance area welcomes you with a high room, a pub and a restaurant. The rooms are really good. Only the Wi-Fi is only available on the ground floor. In the rooms there is a LAN connection.

Staff very helpful. Toilet facilities good but not great. Not very disabled friendly although there is a very small lift to the rear of the building through heavy doors and up an extremely steep ramp — wouldn't be able to self repel a wheelchair and better be strong if pushing someone in one. Motorised chairs won't fit in lift. Such a shame too.

Stayed here for two nights on the 25th of March. Wanted a large bedroom with two double beds and before staying at the hotel the staff said this wasn’t available so I booked a second room. When checking in at the hotel I asked the staff if there definitely was no rooms with two double beds to which they said no. I then went to take my stuff up to the room and checked the second room and it was a room with two double beds. I gave the receptionist one key back and asked to be refunded as I wanted to share in the bigger room anyway and she didn’t know what to do although the next day we did get money taken off the food bill which was fine. The beds were very uncomfortable everyone I stayed with agreed and complained about this. The shower broke whilst being used. The food in the restaurant was not that great. It was a great location though just a shame about everything else.

Lovely decor and staff are very helpful but I do wish they would make soup fresh every day and not rely on the catering ready made powder soup. Prices reasonable.

I arrived late at night and was treated well by lovely staff. The room was perfect, clean and comfortable. Only fault would be that I couldn't get a Wi-Fi connection but thats no great for one night. Great tea in the morning.

The Hotel Pub is an ideal place to take a pint of a variety of barrel beers. It is a quiet and attentive place. Nice Scottish-style décor. There is also a restaurant.

Wasn’t that impressed to be honest. Amongst other issues we had to ask the waitress to wipe our table before she went to set out places. Side salad was pretty poor and portion size of fish and chips for four people varied greatly.

One of the best bar in Scotland. We want to try to hotel… well another time. The barman was great at suggesting and advising different areas and points we could come across. What a knowledgeable Scot. The beers were good too. The atmosphere was fantastic. I want to live this feeling again.

Stayed in this hotel with my girlfriend for one night as part of our tour of Scotland. We had mainly stayed at B&Bs and fancied something a bit more upmarket. At our arrival we were impressed by the building, its location, the restaurant and reception area. Unfortunately the room itself was far less impressive. The room was dated and basic with broken fixtures, stains on ceiling, floors and walls. The bathroom was from a different era with damaged panels, broken lights, hair, stained lino around the toilet and dirty grouting in the shower. We made some comments at the reception when we left and the response of the staff was mainly excuses rather than appologies. They basically said that this was a room that was yet to be refurbished. I guess it's a bit of a lottery as the pictures on the website seem to show some much nicer rooms.

Stayed here for one night whilst attending a family 21st birthday party at City Walls. Advance payment booking delivered a very average twin bedded room on the 5th floor, with a lift that is well past it's sell by date. Overall, the Hotel is in dire need of some serious TLC. Having finally got parked in the hotel car park… requires better signage and directions to find it through the one way system in Stirling… the rear approach to the hotel is dingy, dirty and very off putting. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful as are the bar staff. Shame the waiting staff at breakfast are not the same! Breakfast was ok although a toasting machine would have been preferable to waiting for the staff to provide limp, black offerings resembling toast!
All in all, a bit average and not a good advert for foreign tourists as to the standard of hotel accommodation in the UK compared with what is available abroad. With such an ideal, central location, the hotel is well placed to provide upmarket quality accommodation with plenty of history as well. Paint and TLC would go a long way to improve the standing of this establishment.

We have only stayed one night but the Hotel and it's staff are wonderful. We had a lovely room. The bar was open and reasonable to drink in and the hotel offers a restaurant until 9.15pm. Breakfast is fabulous has something for everyone and as much as you want. Very reasonable price for the standard. Will definitely stay here again.

Nothing bad at all to say about this hotel. From the start we was welcomed with warmth and a friendly smile, the staff were extremely pleasant. As we was working nights coming in, in the morning we was welcomed with nice fresh towels and the staff had gone out of their way to ensure we got a good sleep throughout their cleaning of rooms. Overall fantastic service and definately a place to stay again.

Location in centre of Stirling. Rooms were well presented and clean although a bit small. Service of staff was good. They were friendly and attentive. Food was good but I thought could have been a bit better for a wedding. All in all it was a good experience.

Beautiful old hotel in the heart of Stirling. Within walking distance of Stirling Castle, train station, great shopping and dining. Have stayed here several times and will definitely return on future visits. Well appointed rooms and great food. Staff and management are outstanding!

The parking is extremely tricky to locate (it's in a back-lot you have to fight to get to), and unless you are using Google Maps, it's likely you'll try to go up wrong-way streets. It is older, which I'd anticipated would mean a nice feel, but it all felt sub-standard. Elevator barely fit 3-4 (placard said 7? ), Wi-Fi only available in the lobby not in the rooms so no uploading of pictures from the trip thus far, and laundry service is non-existent anywhere. Their website claims laundry service available, but they have to send out for it which can take 24+ hours unless done before 10a (check-in at 2p) and nothing available in the town. This section of our honeymoon was a true flop and disappointment. Alas, I would not recommend for anything more than a one night quick stay.

The main exhibition room was quite warm for early September. Also a bit dark. Good PA system and food/drinks were all of good quality and plentiful. Helpful discreet staff — the event went smoothly.

Quality room, staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is old, so charm has to balance with some discomfort to modern sensibilities. Winding hallways and steep staircases make moving around a tad difficult at times. The room itself was good, and not too small. Location is fine — a short walk from the rail station and a fairly straight shot to the castle.

Great location in the city center. The hotel is a bit old but kept well. The international breakfast is very plentiful.

I attended an event in the newly refurbished Wallace suite, and the room was beautiful. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do more to be helpful. It was a great day, and the food we had was gorgeous.

Wheelchair lift too small and too short to accommodate standard wheelchair … had to go back downhill and enter via basement… then up a ramp that was so steep … wheels got stuck on lift threshold … had to shoehorn wheelchair into what felt like the world's smallest lift then into dining room… except the only access involved all the guests seated at the line of tables having to get up and move… to let us past… only to find that none of the tables were wheelchair friendly because of the diagonal stabiliser bars as part of the design… staff refused to move a table from another area… so everyone else had to get up again to let us out and we had to sit in another area on another level away from the rest of our party To be fair it is an old building but that should mean more effort into overcoming difficulties whereas its glaringly obvious that no thought has gone into asking a wheelchair user about facilities… the young staff were as concerned as we were and helped as best they could but the whole saga with the access difficulties ruined an otherwise nostalgic return to Stirling one of my very favourite places.

Lovely experience. Very friendly staff. Great for a night out or a simple break away. Room and bathroom very clean and luxurious. Food great too. Only thing I would say is if there is a wedding or party, you can still hear it very loudly at every point in the hotel throughout the night.

Sterling Hotel in Scotland with important exterior appearance, even at the lobby level. However, the rooms, albeit spacious and equipped with comfort, proved to be a little neglected and obsolete.

The Golden Lion isn't the cheapest place but that's overshadowed completely by its sheer beauty. The ballroom is awe inspiring and the staff are really friendly. Top marks.

Lunch at the Golden Lion Hotel on Wednesday 30th March 2015 was very tasty … a comprehensive menu with good choices for vegetarians too! Great list of wines, cocktails, whiskies & gins for the more adventurous!

Great food and service. Hotel is going through a renovation so we were in a different room but it worked well for our party.

Very helpful but hard to find! They were very accommodating and provided everything we needed. This included secure off road parking.

New Years Stay, hotel staff have been very friendly and foot has been decent. Music on NYE was enjoyable too, nice dining and ballroom! Hotel may be showing its age a little bit but our room was clean and everything worked nicely!

Stay here last night the 17th november, An I must say our room was first class, for what we payed. The breakfast was good the service was very good. We wiill return.

I was really upset that I had something stolen from my room and they did nothing to help. Then they let housekeeping check my room after saying to them something had been taken whilst I was out of the building. In my opinion there is a stunning premier Inn five mins from the lion. Wouldn't stay again!

Was looking forward to a nice lunch, very disappointed with food, fish very greasy, chips soggy. Nice helpful waiting staff but food very disappointing.

Christmas day @ the golden lion I booked for christmas day dinner with 15 of my family for the 3pm sitting. We all wanted to go out for christmas as we, ve had such a rotten year. Anyway it was the worst experience iv ever had we were seated at 3 waiters were on us like flies wanting full order. NO would you like a drink. Starters came quickly followed by the soup. I was, t even finished my so called soup I turned round the waiter was at the back of me with my main course. Well give us a minute main course processed turkey roll and a perfectly round well I dont no think it was meant to be potato but as to this day were still stumped. BY the time we had our sweet tea n coffee they were clearing our table. ITS the first time in 25 years iv been out for christmas lunch it will be the last. As I said they were clearing our table while we were still having coffee. I no its christmas day and everyone wants home but they shouldn't be open if they dont want people there. WE were in and ushered out in the space of 57 minutes. There;s a bar downstairs as they hurried us out. If your ever thinking of going out for christmas dinner give this hotel a masive swerve not 1 person in my party had a good word to say about it worst.

I rang up to book a room for 2 nights at the Golden Lion, and explained my friend was in a wheelchair so I needed to double check the hotel was accessible. I was assured that it was, they had a lift and they would book us a twin room very near the lift. When we arrived we had real trouble getting the chair into the lift from the basement, there was a steep ramp which I struggled to push the chair up, then a gap between the floor and the lift which the smaller wheels got stuck in. The lift itself was very narrow and only just fit the slim wheelchair in, I don’t think it would fit a large chair in. We eventually managed but there was only room for the wheelchair in the lift as it was so small, not room for another person or any luggage. So I had to leave our luggage and run up to the second floor to meet the lift. Our room was at the end of a corridor, not next to the lift as promised. The room itself was nice, big enough for the wheelchair, with comfy twin beds and a sofa, and was clean. It didn’t ruin our stay, we had a nice evening meal in the Golden Lion restaurant, then went into the bar area which had a good friendly atmosphere. The breakfast was also good, with lots of choice. But every time we had to use the lift I had to ask another guest or member of staff for help as the ramp was so steep I couldn’t manage it myself with the weight of the wheelchair.

Found the Golden Lion very accommodating after they found I made a mistake with booking — I booked the wrong day! They found a room for the same rate and were very gracious and pleasant about the whole ordeal.

I spent 3 nights and very well. Central breakfast excellent.

Second year ive driven a coach tour and stayed here service and staff were fantastic.

Have organised two seminar events in March 2012 and 2013 for 40+ delegates. Not had any issues with the service provided by staff or indeed the facilities provided in order our 2 day event runs smoothly. Nothing is ever a problem when you ask. Also fantastic value for money, will be going back next year.

We got married in The Golden Lion in 2003. At that time, this was a fantastic place. Food was fantastic. Service was extremely hospitable. There were always plenty of staff around and were all very attentive. All in all, I could not recommend this place highly enough. Fast forward to 2012 and my wife went there for her works Christmas Night-out. And the place has gone seriously downhill. The food was crap. For about 300 people attending the dinner, there were just 2 bar staff. The band was chronic. All in all, really bad experience. Not good. Not good at all. Unless they seriously get their act together, I would recommend giving this place a miss.
