Nice modern building with good facilities and plenty of places to eat round about. Really cheap prices we paid 37 pounds for 2 of us with breakfast thrown in. Would definitely stay again.

Had a really late check in. Reception staff were outstandingly helpful. To top it off when baby wouldn't sleep they turned off all the lights while I pushed her around in her buggy.

Slightly dated and unfortunately a/c in rooms however very clean, staff extremely polite and helpful. Room is clean and has what you'd expect. At only £41 b&b a night can't complain, fab value for money.

Really helpful — friendly — good rooms — dog friendly — no extra charge for dogs which is great (as long as your dogs are house trained) if the room needs to be cleaned after your stay because of your dogs then you do get charged which is fair enough — to be honest if your dogs can’t be trusted then you shouldn’t be using a hotel — we use the hotel as a base to visit family in the area and always enjoy our stay — it’s also very easy to get to the metro centre and the pub next to it is fantastic —

Not bad. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast is great! Walls are quite thin, had the pleasure of a snoring guest for most of the evening.

Great room. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner. Breakfast was more than amazing, and incredibly well filled every couple of minutes. Free ice, to keep your drinks cool as there is no fridge. Needless to say, for what it's worth just a really good stay.

Stayed here with my husband and our 1 year old, we travelled as my husband had to work for one day in the area, we decided to make it a road trip and go together. The staff were amazing, so friendly and welcoming… definite Northern charm in this hotel! The room was clean, very very comfortable, up to date and much better than some of the supposed 4/5* hotels I’ve stayed in down south for 2/3 times the cost. Breakfast was help yourself buffet, nothing special, but a good selection and we definitely didn’t leave hungry!

We booked here six months or more for Fri, Sat, Sun, departure Monday morning. Cost was £131.32 and breakfast is included. Everyone else that waited until couple weeks before were around £90/night. Book early and save loads. We only had two problems, 1 the shower drain took while to clear the water so it travelled to the doorway before we noticed it. 2 the bed was a little harder than we like. Just trivial problems. Noisy first thing in morning which was ok by us. It saved setting an alarm call for breakfast. Breakfast is help yourself and was cooked very well. There is a 24hr licence for guests only if you just want a quiet drink. All in all it was a great stay. Worth 4 stars from us.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 3nights what an amamazing stay it was noting bad at all to say everything was perfect staff are so kind and helpful. The hotel itself is spotless breakfast was lovely. The handy man that does the hotel is such a nice man he would come to us and tell us places to go and help us out with any question we asked all the staff where just amazing so careing and welcoming. Bus stop right outside to go the town and bring you back. The first hotel I've ever stayed in that was just such a nice stay and we will be back. This hotel deserves 10/10 Thank you guys for everything Stacey.

Stayed in room T500 requested a quiet room when I booked n they delivered. Excellent modern room, excellent breakfast plenty of choice. Within walking distance of metro centre along the river side (not for those less mobile).
Bus stop just up rd with buses every 10 mins into Newcastle £4.50 return.
Would deffently stay here again. Highly recommend.

Stayed for 2 nights on a business trip from 01.06 to 03.06.18. Very comfortable room. Decent breakfast. But most importantly, superbly attentive staff, who looked after me and another guest called John and our 'Golden Wonder Cheese and Onion' specialist Matthew who joined in the party, Willy and his wife and his charming sister Elspeth, as we whiled away 7.5 hours at the hotel bar setting the world to rights. We did have 1 or 12 sherberts. A fantastic evening was had amongst a group of people who'd never met before. Absolutely first class. A huge thankyou to Brian and all the evening/ night staff at the Holiday Inn Express. They were superb and an absolute credit to the group.

Hotel was great but the prices of drinks and snacks is extortionate. £2.75 for a 500ml bottle of Diet Pepsi Premier Inn £1.50 Heron Foods 3 for £1.00. Come on this is rip off Britain at its worst.

Came to the UK to meet the man of my dreams and we had a lovely time here. Well kept and friendly staff. Even the breakfast was great :)

The hotel here I would describe as being what you'd expect from a cheaper hotel. The rooms are fairly basic, but well maintained. Breakfast is an option, but the selection is a little on the anemic side. Despite being near some major roads, noise is not an issue and there are plenty of transport options for travel to other attractions in the Newcastle area. Great for overnight stays, but not for anything longer than that.

Overall, ideal accommodation for us (4 adults) for a 2 night stay for family event. Happy with price. Happy with location for coming off motorway from Scotland. Arrived at night and places close by for dinner — wee pub, TGI Fridays, Brewers Fayre. Staff on reception, breakfast — friendly. Decent choice in buffet breakfast. Bedroom size and comfort of bed good. Tips for hotel to get 5 stars — housekeeping were slow to respond to request to add basic toiletries as not enough had been provided in the first place. Iron in bedroom — terrible. Took ages to iron clothes. Food at breakfast — need to invest in Milan Chaffing set. When the buffet is busy, the lid on the food gets lifted up regularly and the food cools quickly.

Stayed here for 1 night over Easter. Special thanks to Brian for sorting out my mistake with the booking. All the staff are super friendly and helpful. Rooms are neat and tidy with a good size shower. Beds are not fantastically large but super comfy. Breakfast in morning is included and has the normal choices of full English, cereals, fruit & toast. Overall, can't fault it and will definitely will be staying here next time we are in Newcastle.

Excellent stay over the weekend here! We came to watch the football and it’s a great location, only a 10 minute bus drive into the centre and then a 5 minute walk to St James Park. Staff were very accommodating and helped with all our needs! We managed to get complimentary toothbrushes as my husband forgot them! Room was clean and comfortable. Perhaps would have been better for a little more wardrobe space as we were a family of four. We heard the trains in the morning but they didn’t disrupt our sleep at all!
Breakfast seemed a little limited to me but I can be pretty fussy!

Great value hotel room. Bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Only negative was that the shower wasn't very powerful. Breakfast was good for the price and is included with all rooms. Would go again if looking to stay on a budget in the area.

The walls are paper thin, the rooms looking out to the road suffer from a thump thump thump all night from a joint in the road when cars and trucks pass over it, the bedroom doors are super heavy and have a very noisy latch mechanism which most people elected to let slam shut whatever time of the day or night, and the guests on my floor were very inconsiderate in general, shouting while walking down the corridor etc at 1am, 6am. Etc. I could go on… In short, I came here for work. I'm not fussy, I only needed sleep and a hot shower. I'm a seasoned traveller but only managed 4 hours sleep even with ear plugs in. Terrible experience. I didn't mention it with reception because I was hardly going to ask to move rooms at 1am etc. And by the morning it was too late and complaining would have just delayed my departure. Other stuff: the breakfast was poor for the cost. Only hot full English type food was limited to just 4 things I think; bacon, sausage, eggs, beans. That was about it. Good stuff: The bed was very comfy but not much use when you can't block out all the noise. There was plenty of parking. The hotel is next to Frankie and Benny's which was a bonus for dinner. That's about it. I just wanted a good night's rest.

They gave us the wrong room. I am not a smoker and they put us in a not nice room on the ground floor. I advise going but make sure that it has the correct information…

Had a lovely stay here last night. Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Rooms clean & cosy. Will definitely be returning along with our 2 dogs who also would give the hotel 5 stars ⭐️. So nice to find a place that accepts animals Definitely recommend here and was really great value for money.

This is near the metro centre. If you have stayed in an HIE then you know what to expect. They are all pretty similar spec wise. This one has the upgraded interior (at least the room I had did). Nice staff and the breakfast was on the better side for the chain. All in all does what it says really. Good price and good location comfy bed and decent breakfast.

Very good feeling when you enter the hotel, all types of rooms as much as you money can take. Very cheap prices, clean bathrooms all well kept. With free Wi-Fi and free parking (you must register you vehicle number when booking in). Disabled ♿ parking is right in front of the entrance, many shops around like KFC and TGIFriday if you feel like eating out. With the river view and location I'll say it's an excellent place to lodge. Enjoy yourself.

Typical friendly welcome as we arrived, and a comfortable but basic room on the ground floor. Iron in the room wasn't great, but did a job and the heater didn't appear to work, although the temperature was comfortable. I'll definitely stay again.

Stayed here last night. First impressions were WOW how nice and well kept! Well the window was dodgy and I thought it was going to fall off when we opened it… the shower was awful as the spray only came out of a couple of holes … although did have lovely warm water … the bed was lovely … but for only one person … it was so small… not a patch on the lovely beds in premier and travel lodge. Breakfast was a good bonus following an awful nights sleep.

Really well decorated room, with Nice extras. Nice washing facilities and good breakfast, although sausages were tough. But all round nice place too stay.

Good hotels nice and clean and very close to metro centre for shopping. Room nice and clean with beds made up daily. Tea and coffee in room which is always nice. Buffet breakfast with normal choices bacon and eggs, tea, coffee. God hotel for shopping.

Very quiet place, the people of the hotel very hospitable and friendly.

Very accessible for all commutes in Newcastle, 15 minute taxi journey to the Close House Golf Club. There is also the convenience of the TGI Friday, KFC and McDonald's within the the hotels vicinity. Also a small pub if you fancy and evening pint. The hotel also has a fully stocked bar and a small tuck shop for snacks. Lots of car parking space and a 15 minute taxi into the town centre. Clean spacious rooms with conference rooms for meetings also. Helpful staff 24 hours a day.

Very disappointed. So dissatisfied we have contacted a solicitor. Faulty electrics in our room. When we attempted to contact reception, they informed us they were aware of the issue and were told to fiddle with the light bulb. Dangerous shower. Injured my wife. Attempted to contact someone in regards to this, only to be sent a measly response about how the issues have been sorted. If you care about the safety and wellbeing of yourself and loved ones, avoid at all costs!

Had lovely sleep bed's so comfortable, but weren't too sure about slightly high prices in restaurant. When 0.4 mile away you can get 2 meals for £10? Fantastic breakfast now bacon and other items included. Worth the money. Thanks for a good stay.

A good quality hotel in excellent location. We need an accessible room as my wife is a wheelchair user and the allocated room is perfect for our needs. A very good breakfast is included in the desk and the staff have been very friendly. No problem finding a disabled parking space. Have used before and will certainly use again.

I would say it was the best of the three travel hotels in the area. I would prefer it off the rooms had air con. Very uncomfortable sleeping in warmer weather. The hotel has been recently refurbished and it is looking quite good. Cooked breakfast was basic, beans sausage and egg only. I would stay here again though.

Poor that they don't serve food within the hotel. As a young single female on business it's nice to be able to stay in your hotel for dinner, order room service however they don't offer that. I received a voucher off at the local tgis across the road. Good for most people but when living in hotels it's nice to have a homely meal in your hotel.

Stayed for four nights, April 2016. Hotel newly painted inside and looking good. Good breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Nice big rooms. Can't fault anything.

The litter surrounding this hotel is a disgrace, much of it is guest generated. The car parks are a disgrace and the management team are obviouslly lethargic and oblivious to this problem. I and several friends carry out conservation work in the local area and have litter picked HIs car park in the past, but enough is enough. I will be contacting HI UK re this embarrassing problem.

Its a very nice and modern/clean hotel with very friendly staff. It has free WI-FI and a TV a sleeper couch and heating.

I have stayed at this Hotel numerous times and never yet have I been disappointed with the Hotel in general, the staff — if you approach them politely — are as helpful and courteous as any other Hotel I have stayed in (and I am 74) and the cost of the rooms with breakfast (unlimited) is as good as anywhere else in comparison. Easy parking. Near Metro Centre what more could you ask for… and free Wi-Fi. I believe.

Great hotel and room. Good staff. Cooked breakfast is poor, with NO BACON?! Also took an extra £50 bond when I arrived in case I destroyed the room, which I am still waiting to be returned to the card. 9 working days later! Annoying. Overall good hotel.

The staff at the Reception were courteous and helpful. The handwash near the washbasin in the room was placed much too high. I'm 5 feet and 4 inches. It was much too high for me. Maybe it could be conveniently placed lower near the washbasin? The kitchen staff were not so courteous as the Reception ones, at breakfast time. The "free" breakfast is nothing to write home about. The scrambled eggs were terrible. There was no apple juice, and only water came out of the machine, which was rectified later. Things like soap, toothbrush etc could be placed in a little basket in the room. Guests who do not need them will not take them. Perhaps a tiny coat's brush may be provided for guests, like the ones given on flights.

Excellent location for Metro Centre, great hotel and excellent free breakfast! Would recommend for shopping stay. £98 half board inc. Wine and chocolates in room. Very happy customer.

Ok room! ok Facilities bad service and crap breakfast, Frothy Orange Juice! and the WORST SCRAMBLED EGGS I'VE TASTED IN MY LIFE! apart from the very poor breakfast my sum-up: Average.

Sh** rooms and even worse employee attitudes. During the weekends they employ bouncers and if your not "assigned" a room, you will be discharged. No girls, no friends, worst hotels experience ever! AVOID.
