Reviews of The Railway Inn Westerfield 3*
Had lunch today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic service and great food. Really enjoyed the apple and cherry crumble. Five out of five! 😀
Lovely food lovely staff!
We booked an overnight stay here after reading good reviews. We were travelling from the Wirral in the NW to help our daughter move for her and her partner’s new jobs. The food was very good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and thoughtfully set out. Breakfast was tasty. Definitely recommend.
Popped there today with a friend for Sunday lunch. Very welcoming and friendly on arrival. Had no problem with ordering drinks and food, or so we thought. Ordered the roast chicken with a side of stuffing (the main did not say it came with stuffing). Food came and we then discovered the main already came with stuffing and we'd also got the additional portion which wasn't actually needed. None of the servers came and checked to see if everything was ok with our meals. The chicken was so very dry and rubbery I had to leave the last breast as my knife could not even cut through it. I mentioned to the server who cleared the plates and all he said was I'll let the kitchen know! No apology, and no acknowledgent from the management team of the issue when I paid. Very poor.
Had a family Meal and watched the Footy tonight Amazing staff and great food. they welcomed our dogs with treats and fresh water. Highly recomend we had a lovely evening/afternoon.
We went for lunch on. A Friday and had booked a table. Really friendly greeting and drinks came quickly, food was well cooked and at a good price we ate from the set lunch menu and there was a lot of choice. Very nice and would recommend thoroughly.
The whole experience was wonderful The food was devine AND they allow dogs 🤗
Not great been good in past but not much choice for a Saturday night and even the 2 and 3 course specials were the same as menu so we all had fish and chips which quite frankly wasn’t very good The batter tasted like it was cooked in old oil and not much fish all batter mainly For £14 not great value.
Second time here and it’s superb, food is so tasty and the service is spot on.
Lovely food, great service and friendly staff. Will definitely be back :)
Great atmosphere food superb. Our waitress Megan was attentive and friendly. We are definitely going to return.
Friendly staff. Great food. Lots of parking. Highly recommend.
Great place, great food and lovely staff. Will definitely be back!
Great food a d service is great.
So pleased we chose to go here for our first outing after lockdown.
Lovely atmosphere, the food was amazing and the staff were great.
We’ll be back soon.
Fab night last night thank you. Food was amazing and main meals came out lovely and hot.
So nice to see so many people out enjoying themselves and lovely to walk into a packed restaurant once more.
Lovely friendly staff xx.
Great, clean, welcoming environment and atmosphere, gorgeous staff and yummy food!
Great food & the staff are really nice, pleasant & very friendly. 10 out of 10 for food.
Love it, great food and great service.
Very disappointed, service was slow probably because there appeared to be only 2 waitresses however the one that took our order I only saw once. My daughter ordered from the set lunch menu we waited approx 20 minutes after eating our main course and no one came to take our plates or ask about dessert when I went and asked about ordering dessert the girl behind the bar stated that someone would be there in a minute. We waited another 15 minutes and still no one arrived so we decided to pay and leave. I went to the bar to pay and the waitress couldn't have been more disinterested! I explained that we had ordered from the set lunch menu and had been unable to order any dessert and she was really rude. No apology. So disappointed we have visited previously and was extremely satisfied such a shame.
Highly rate this place. Lovely setting. Really friendly staff, who can’t do enough for you. Outside space is lovely and the interior is fresh, with a cosy yet open feel. Plenty of choice on the menu and the food is really, really good. You’ll never leave hungry.
Really amazing evening here. Staff all really friendly and food was delicious. Very accommodating with me being dairy free. Thank you.
We come and eat here a lot. Although today the service was just like “fawlty towers”, the manager rectify the mistakes without hesitation and apologised. This is what you call good customer service. So, we will still come back.
Lovely friendly and welcoming staff. We will definitely return, next time to have dinner.
Amazing menu, lovely staff. Our son is wheat intolerant and he had such a choice of food (taking a 9yr old out for lunch or tea and he is only normally offered jacket potato! )
it was fab thank you so much… we will be regular customers from here on in!
Great place with very professional staff.
Brilliant menu and superb food.
If your staying here the rooms and service are well above any 4star hotel.
Highly recommended and will be back. Superb.
Fabulous food. Owner and staff very friendly. Comfortable bed and great shower.
Great food as all ways.
Prompt service, friendly staff, great atmosphere, spacious, excellent food, reasonable prices and I could go on, so what's there not to like?
Amazing service and fabulous food! Really is a must visit place. We will be back, thank you for having us.
Excellent service. Fabulous food and not measly portions. Super friendly staff. Thank you for a marvellous experience.
Just had a fab meal for the 2 of us and value for money
great atmosphere and brilliant staff.
Really great food and service. Atmosphere was super friendly and staff were lovely xx.
Great food with a wonderful atmosphere can’t recommend it enough. Staff are very attentive and friendly, the food is fantastic and the choice of drink is comprehensive. My room was so comfortable and immaculately clean so the amazing breakfast was a jewel in the crown. Fantastic place if you have the chance to visit.
Good pub grub for a reasonable price. Generous servings. Staff friendly and helpful. Will be going again.
Was there for a boules match. The pub itself is busy, containing a restaurant and bar with a big TV with sports. There is an outdoor area for eating that gets you away from the TV. The food was nice. Plenty of parking space. Downside I felt the drinks were overpriced. But a nice friendly atmosphere with a nice view.
An excellent meal as always. I am very fussy when it comes to eating out. I'm yet to have a bed meal there. The Steak is amazing, staff are always friendly and helpful and always a smile (which is a rarity these days) Highly recommended.
We received a warm welcome when we arrived. All the staff are genuinely interested that everything is ok and that you are happy. The meals are delicious and a good sized portion. We have eaten here twice and both times we have left with full stomachs! We will return again.
What can I say! Well firstly, we had not only our wedding reception here, but we also had our 1st wedding anniversary meal here to. We are back to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and booked a room, it did not disappoint we loved every minute and again the food was on point! So if your looking for somewhere with great views, fabulous service and friendly people. A place you can relax and feel your a world away look no further! Sarah Pete and the team ensure a perfect stay! Food is delicious a great variety on the menu! Breakfast is tasty to. Full English or continental just let them know what you would like! Beautiful views a relaxing break. You couldn’t ask for more!
Welcoming and friendly, the room I stayed in had been recently refurbished and was very clean and comfortable with everything you'd expect including tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water etc. The food was really really good, probably one of the best meals I've had! There is a good selection of beers and plenty of gin to choose from. Although it's near a railway line don't let this put you off, it is not a busy line and when a train does pass through it isn't noisy. I would definitely stay here again.
Hi decided last minute to go here today. Decided on the 3 courses. Had said we'd have 2 courses but food was absolutely wonderful that we had to have desert! The staff were lovely all very young and very friendly. My husband is a coeliac and he agreed the meal very lovely. So much flavour. So complements go to the chief who did an amazing job. Well worth a visit.
Had table for 7 staff very attentive food excellent this is our ist visit was recommended by my sister food fantastic the only downfall was the party going on very noisy we couldn't sit and hav Conversation we shall be returning.
Great location, good food, friendly staff. Didn't try the beers but looked like a good local selection. Drove there for lunch and got an easy parking and seat space. Oddly large selection of fruit tea. Would recommend the haddock, cheddar and spring onion fish cakes.
Very impressed staff very helpful and friendly food amazing will be returning very pleasant place.
Lovely staff and food. Accommodated us and out 1 year old daughter with no trouble.
A great Pub run by a lovely couple. Serves very good food with even better service. If a good quality pub with a great atmosphere is what you are looking for then look no further as you have already found it. I have eaten and drank here on many occasions and never been disappointed. 5
Cosy atmosphere. Dog friendly. Tasty home cooked food. Friendly service. Family run.
Great atmosphere. Lovely staff and owners Pete and Sarah taught everyone staff well.
We went for Christmas dinner. Food was excellent. Staff really friendly and the atmosphere good.
Very tasty food. Generous portions. Reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Usually gave a set menu on, 2 courses for a certain reasonable amount. The food in generally really lovely and the staff are friendly and happy to help. Lovely pub.
Sunday roast was lovely. Service quick and all the staff polite and friendly. Thank you.
I've been here a number of times and have been quite impressed. The food has been good, the service good, staff friendly etc. However, last time I came the food just wasn't as good. Quality seems to have been replaced with quantity. Has the chef changed, I wonder? This is a really nice place to eat, so I wouldn't want to see it take a wrong turn…
People works there were nice, starter was good, the mushroom on top of the steak was delicious, but my supposedly medium cooked steak was overcooked, taste like well done cooked and need some strength to cut the steak to pieces, I will try others on the menu next time rather than the steak.
We had a pleasant family meal. Staff were helpful, and the meal was quite nice. My burger however was charred on one side.
We have not eaten here as yet but often pop in for a drink or two. The proprietors are very friendly and make everyone feel really welcome. The menu sound lovely and the food always looks good.
Considering we walked in at 8.45pm and the place was packed (It wasn't to loud). We managed to find a table and were seen to and looked after very well. The food was great and well priced. It came out on time. Fantastic visit!
Lovely pub with a nice amount of outside seating for a sunny day. Food was faultless. Staff were chatty but not intrusive. Nice place to go even if it's quiet. Bonus of a pub dog!
Called in on the off chance, fiitted us in lovely polite staff very warm and chatty. The starter of Liver Pate was grey looking and very soft not how I usually have it but you could see it was home made and once you got over it it tasted fine. Main was a lovely Welsh lamb tasted great and nicely cooked the desert now I was shocked went for the fudge cheese cake and boy was that a naughty treat tasted and looked fantastic always have a desert here! The wife had a Roulade and Sorbet just as fantastic. Will be going back to try more deserts.
Went to this place yesterday with my daughter, was greeted with a smile shown to a table, the starter we both had was awesome, however the main was for both of us a big let down, it was supposed to be poached salmon on a salad bed, it was cold andl it looked like it was thrown together in a bowl, flakes of salmon (resembling! ) tinned salmon! With croutons thrown all over it, It was very bland and unseasoned so quite tasteless, so with that we both politely complained, the complaint was taken very personally by the bar person/ manager who insisted tht we pay for the main that we hardly touched only to taste, after some time he did let us off the payment for the main and follows up with 'STOP TALKING NOW! I am not charging you for the main 'this was shocking behaviour and I was disgusted, having said that my daughter and I were calm the entire way through, and we were also told to leave and never come back!? Well hospitality Is obviously not his strong point, further more I don't like to complain but the landlord of this place needs to see how he made us feel.
To say the least this was by far the worst experience I have ever had with ONE staff member being incredibly rude. So today I visited the Railway Inn and sat down to have a dinner, we began by having whitebait and chicken liver pate for starters and they could not be faulted-tasted lovely. However we ordered a main course of poached salmon and salad however it was a bowl of mush, there was only lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and Salmon and it was very bland with no dressing, to which we politely informed a male bar staff member, including that the starters were delicious but we just wasn't happy with the mains. He said he would charge us for one dish but due to us only having a mouthful I didn't think this was acceptable and agreed I would only pay for the drinks and starters. To which he rudely told us to "Stop talking" as he had "Heard enough" and told us to never come back, we was extremely reasonable about the entire situation and I reminded him that I work with the public myself and despise complaints, but following that he again shook his head and told us we were wrong. So on that note if we could give zero stars for the manner we were spoken to in we would. Worst experience and hope to god someone teaches him some manners or even so how to deal with a very polite complaint!
Lovely venue, great waiting staff. The good was a real let down. We ordered roast dinner. The potatoes were dry, the meat was tasteless & not enough gravy. We won't be recommending or returning.
Fantastic venue to eat and drink. Very friendly staff who take pride in their job. Good selection of ales, mostly Adnams, if you're a train spotter like me, it's ideal!
The food is excellent and obviously homemade. I had the rib eye steak, others had the burgers, pork tenderloin and Mac n cheese. All were very very good! Service was a bit slow and our bread didn't come beforehand and took long to get the check. Otherwise would have given 5 stars.
I visited the railway Inn for a meal and the pub quiz which runs on the last Wednesday of every month. The quiz is always good fun with a good range of teams and questions, and the meal was excellent. There is always a good atmosphere at the railway inn which is created by the friendly staff and owners.
The place was busy which for 1.30 lunch was surprising. We were shown to our table, and asked about drinks, a choice of 4 lagers or 4 bitters, a good start. Good choice of a 2 course menu of the day or choose just one course. Home made shortcrust steak and ale pie I can recommend, waiting staff very good and pleasant.
Four of us for eats. Everyone enjoyed the meal and I must say the mango and coconut cheesecake was the best I've eaten, and I've eaten alot! My favourite dessert. Friendly staff, lovely relaxing restaurant. They will definitely be seeing us again :-)
The Railway Inn was recommended to us and we were so glad for that recommendation. The food was great. The service excellent and the staff friendly and professional. The highlight for us was the restaurant's resident cat. He was absolutely gorgeous and very friendly. A lovely place to eat with good food and reasonable prices.
Great pub, only stopped for a couple of pints following a dog walk detour. Place looked popular and the food smelt great. Will definitely return. The beer was spot on too.
It was a nice place to eat, the food was standered. Overall good.
3 real ales all very very well kept.
Amazing food, staff and service. Like a home from home.
Firstly I'd like to start by saying the staff are lovely, & the owners are welcoming and helpful, and this isn't a reflection on them at all. But the food was not very good at all, & I wouldn't say we were food snobs, or fussy eaters. Although portions are generous, the pate reminded us of cat food, the cut of meat offered on the menu wasn't the cut of meat we received, veg tasted as if it were boiled to within a inch of life, chips were taste less & over done. Sorry but the food is letting you down.
Perfect for snacks and big meals out with friends and family.
Really good food. Massive portions. Large selection of drinks.
Very warm and welcoming, the staff can't do enough to make you feel welcome and when mentioned our children are lactose intolerant they immediately offered to check with the chef about anything we wanted (big positive). The food was excellent and the portion size was perfect. Really good selection of ales to wash the food down. Would recommend!
Well came here for New Years Eve, plus stayed the night. Staff truly wonderful. Food and service very good. Peter and Sarah are great host's. I would highly recommend the Railway.
Hi guys. Not a complaint!, just have to say, some of us chose Chocolate Brownie today, sorry, it was just sponge pudding!, not good, hope you get it right next time, otherwise nice lunch. Thanks.
Fabulous food and super staff. Very welcoming and attentive.
Nice relaxed atmosphere that serves a good range of pub food.
Food was very good. Served 2 courses to 100 people with drinks. Went without a hitch. Great service.
Solid dog-friendly pub. Enjoyed a number of good Sunday lunches here.
Great family gastropub. On the pricier end of the spectrum.
Fantastic food, staff were very friendly and a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Good atmosphere.
Food lovely but service a bit slow, but it was Boxing Day.
Great food and great drinks, had an amazing christmas meal here with all my friends and everything was spot on.
It's by far the best eatery in/around Ipswich. Their chef is a hero in my book! The landlady is a lovely bit o' crackling too, LoL!
Dined at The Railway this evening 31st May. Food very average & service quite slow. San Miguel at £4.30 / pint! Would recommend Tuddenham Fountain,
Good food, wines, beer and cider. Land lady is a real gem, brings the place alive! Also allow dogs in the bar so makes it a great watering hole when out walking.

We stayed the night and it was clean comfortable. A complimentary light breakfast was provided plus milk and water in a fridge. It was perfect for what we needed and at a reasonable price. Would recommend.
