I visited today for my partners 50th Birthday, that service was outstanding, friendly star, at tentative but not imposing. We sat in the upper terrace in the beautiful sunshine. Amazing food. Can not wait to visit again. I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family xx.

Nice welcome. Lovely room. Friendly staff. Well looked after. Lookong dorward to trying the spa when it's completed.

Great welcome from staff. Loved the cellar table for 6. Really nice space for under 5’9” Food was fab, every dish. Not shy on portion size either. Left stuffed after just 2courses. Great coffee too. Prices in line with Michelin Star, food on par with, but left many a Michelin star still hungry…. Not here. Well recommend.

Amazing food and service, we frequent here regularly for dinner but we’re lucky enough to win an overnight stay in a charity raffle. Room was very clean and bathtub amazing! However height restrictions were a slight issue in the room with my husband being 6ft 4! Not ideal. Also one other negative was that we were woken up at 6:25am on a weekend by the glass bottles being emptied several times! The hotel have apologised for this and offered us a complimentary drink on our next visit. Thank you Marquis. The breakfast was just delicious and I would definitely go again for breakfast. Food, service and drinks are excellent and facilities are very clean.

Absolutely lovely. The menu choice was stunning, given that so many restaurants have reduced their menus at this time, it was very refeshing to have choices. The food was wonderfuly fresh, tasty and wholesome. Staff were welcoming, attentive and accommodating. A truly classy but relaxed atmosphere. Definitely would recommend and will be returning soon.

Always a pleasure to visit, great menu, dishes all superb, staff 1st class as is the service and all in a stylish restaurant with a great view. Worth the hit on the wallet.

Lovely venue, lovely room friendly staff but disappointed when it came to the meal. We chose our wine which when brought to the table wasn’t the correct one. The staff tried to tell us it was the right wine in the menu but even the alcohol percentage was different. Our steaks were both cooked with the wrong consistency to what we ordered. The waiter did offer to cook mine further from it’s bloody consistently to medium consistency but this would have meant my husband would have finished his before mine came back to the table. You would expect a chef to know how to cook a steak as a bare minimum.

Such a warm and welcoming place. It’s not the cheapest place but every penny is worth it. Great service great atmosphere great food.

We went here for our wedding anniversary and it was fantastic. Beautiful location, great staff and great food. We will definitely be going back soon.

Yet another wonderful meal at the Marquis. A party booking for a family birthday. The food was delicious, the surroundings beautiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful as always. Jack, the Manager, is professional, friendly and attentive. We cannot praise the Marquis team enough.

We had a lovely meal here with our friends, the staff are very friendly and attentive. The Marquis is situated in lovely surroundings. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Excellent place. Kids can run bonkers in the field leaving you to have a nice cold beer on the terrace. The food is outstanding as well as the service. We'll worth the visit.

We stayed here at the weekend for my daughters wedding at Priory Hall. We hired out the whole hotel for the wedding party. I’ve just got to say that we couldn’t fault a thing. The rooms are beautiful and well equipped, the beds are so comfortable with large fluffy pillows. The food was amazing but most of all the staff were absolutely fantastic and could not do enough for us to make our stay even more special than it was.
Would love to return one day.

Great service, lovely environment great wine choice. Portions very small and just not quite what the menu suggested. Very overpriced for quality of food. We both had half a lobster to be honest I have had langoustine the same size. Maybe Suffolk is much more expensive than Devon.

Everything about this place is *****. The foods lovely as the views and service. My only moan is… I was sitting outside with Mrs N having a drink and stuffing our faces and watching England losing to Belgium. When all of a sudden a man and wife come along sat in front of the TV and asked for the tennis to be put on, and without asking the people that was watching the staff switched over. A bad show I thought. Other then that an excellent drive out for a nice drink and food.

Thank you so much to all the staff at the Marquis for making Catherine’s hen do such a wonderful day on Saturday. The afternoon tea was lovely and your hospitality was fantastic. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

This was our first visit since it had re opened a few years ago. What a delight! We booked a Sunday lunch as a birthday treat and were not disappointed. The star of our meal was the Hereford Sirloin main course. It came with more than ample vegetables and a good portion of meat and roast potatoes. The ambience was perfect and although we were swayed by the brilliant sunshine, (24 degrees! ) I could well imagine it on an autumnal day being cosy and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant, polite and courteous. A thoroughly enjoyable lunchtime.

Had a particularly enjoyable meal here on Good Friday. The restaurant and grounds have been presented very well, with great views across the valley and some local scenes making up the interior wall art. The food itself was the star of the show with big flavours, cooked well and presented neatly. I would argue a better job is being done here than at some locally similar resturants. The staff were very welcoming from the moment we arrived and although a busy evening, kept service running well. This was particularly noticeable in the way they timed moving us from the upstairs bar through to the main restaurant. In all, a must visit restaurant with some superb cooking going on. A restaurant on the rise, no doubt.

Disappointed that the lunch specials menu hasn't changed. I've been 3 times and as a vegetarian my only choice is a feta baguette! I could have something from the main menu but risotto or pasta with tomato sauce and costing £15, come on Marquis, a restaurant of your standard can do better than that. If you need inspiration I can let you have some recipes from Hellofresh!

The first impression of the Marquis, it stands proud on top of the hill overlooking the valley, every thing is like new, it has only been open since November 2016, but it's like it was finished yesterday, everything is kept so clean, right from the car park throughout the Hotel the details and perfection is perfect!
The whole experience was second to none, staff so friendly every thing they done was no trouble and spot on. Even the menu book was like new, pages perfect, I felt I was the first to open it and read the pages not dirty or creased and menu laid out well. I was there for my wife's Birthday celebration a surprise for her, a party of eight. The staff were so helpful in making this a surprise and helped setting out the table of my choice to be decorated by both my sister in-laws. With various choices from the eight of us, throughout the three courses everything was to die for, such individual taste of every thing on the plate, cooked to perfection! Once finished we relaxed in one of the lounges and had coffees served with Birthday cake. The owner Steve thoughout the experience was also attentive to us checking all was ok. The girls were interested in the rooms, Steve gave them a guided tour of the honeymoon suite they were blown away so nice and quality fantastic. We all can't praise the Marquis enough we will be back for sure.
