Had a wonderful sharing lunch today. The food was amazing, nicely presented, fantastic quality, great flavours and genuine value for money. The staff were friendly, polite and well trained. Highly recommended, worth the hours journey, we will be back.

New launch last week so Ann and I popped in for Sunday lunch. WoW this place has upped its game! Friendly manager and a good team of staff! The Sunday lunch was superb! Well done I nearly wiped you off my radar! Best Sunday lunch we have eaten in Suffolk for a long time, most impressed!

Decent food, decent drink (especially the port) and very friendly staff, we can't wait to go back!

Love it here staff really friendly had a fantastic meal and breakfast was just as good the black pudding was the best I have tasted. We stayed as a little present to ourselves on our 25th Wedding Anniversary and it exceeded our expectations. So much to do around Long Melford as well thanks to all the staff who made us feel so welcome.

On holiday last week, I had a meal at the Black Lion. The choice was admirable and the meal cooked beautifully. This was 1000% better than pub fare and there was a great wine list. I really enjoyed eating halibut whilst looking out through the window across a most-marvellous common and Long Melford estate. If Suffolk is as good as this I must go there more often. I certainly recommend eating at this hotel.

We stayed at the Black Lion for two nights and thought the rooms looked lovely on their website. These photographs are also displayed proudly in the lounge and bar area of the hotel and would tempt anyone to stay. But we couldn’t be more disappointed. Our room and bathroom were in such poor condition we were shocked to hear these rooms had only been refurbished in November. There were water stains down all the walls of the bathroom and mould spores in their hundreds on the ceiling. A combination of poor ventilation and the wrong paint for the bathroom. The toilet seat was completely cracked with limescale stains in the toilet bowl which looked very unpleasant. The bath enamel was cracked and black, the horrible brown tiles did not match the bathroom and there was no grout between the tiles with mould and blood stains. The toilet roll holder was falling off the wall. There was no frosting of the glass in the bathroom which looks directly into a house opposite and the blind takes forever to lower to protect your privacy. One of the ceiling lights was also broken. In our bedroom a spot light had fallen out of the ceiling, there was dust and flies on the ceiling above the bed. The wardrobe was not deep enough to hang our clothes properly and you couldn’t open one door because there was a bedside table in the way. Most importantly the day was very hot and humid and yet when we entered the room none of the windows were open and we were not offered a fan despite the obvious heat.

Nice large rooms and great location. Menu is limited for vegetarians but still a few choices.

Loved it. Great ambiance and impeccable service; will be making a definite point of returning soon!

Stayed in the past… was ok. Now been taken over and refurbished by the "Chestnut" group… a vast improvement… staff exceptional. Rooms clean … food great.

The Black Lion has a lovely cosy lounge perfect for meeting my sisters for coffee. A lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be going for our anniversary meal next month in the beautifully refurbished restaurant.

Having changed hands it started of very Rocky, I would have given it 1☆ however I have been back since and they seem to be getting it together albeit a bit slow so have rated them 3☆. Having previously rated it 5☆ with it previous owners I can say their is still work to do. Repairing doors whilst trying to eat is not an ideal evening out. Why not leave it until the morning when less activity going on, it was not unsafe. Hopefully I will have the chance in the future to give it the 5☆ it deserves.

Just spent an enjoyable evening with friends having an evening meal. Food was exceptional and staff friendly and attentive can thoroughly recommend.

My wife and I booked our anniversary meal at the Black Lion on Saturday evening. We were both very fond of the original Black Lion but we were delighted with the standard and choice from the menu and the service the staff offered was also very high quality. The team have done a great job with the refurbishment and we will certainly be returning soon. Monty Atherton.

Popped in for a nice glass of wine by the fire mid Sunday afternoon. Daniel was as welcoming as ever; what a star. Christian is a true charmer behind the bar, very professional albeit with his new born baby in with his family. Wow that's professionalism to admire.
Will be back no doubt in the week for a chilled wine after work by the fire.

16/10/2017 it's currently undergoing renovations so it's not open at the moment. Was told it'll be open by the end of the month. I love the black Lion. Lovely food.

Lovely old hotel with a classic country bar. Food is top notch!

My wife, myself and two friends booked and stayed one night at the Black Lion on 14th June. From our initial arrival we were met with friendly staff and were shown to our rooms. Our luggage duly put in the rooms. Service that evening for our meal was perfect. Our breakfast staff also so efficient. The food was cooked to perfection with great veriety available. Their knowledge of the area also helped as we wished to visit historic buildings. Really enjoyable stay. Malcolm & Doris Garlick.

The food here is lovely and the market menu very reasonably priced. Went back the next day and will return again.

I have a family friend that lives nearby and I have stayed here twice. The staff is fantastic and friendly and always looking after you. The dining is delicious. But most importantly, the rooms are super cozy and wonderful and always kept clean. Awesome!

The food is exceptional! One of the best evening meals we have had away and the breakfast is gorgeous, staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Rooms have a lot of character but are a little tired which is really the only thing that lets the hotel down but all together fantastic location, lovely hotel and would definitely visit again and pop by for lunch!

Arrival went smoothly with a friendly welcome and the great news of an upgrade for us which went down very well! The deal we had booked was explained clearly which made for a relaxing time. The room was in actuality a suite following the upgrade and it was tastefully decorated and warm despite the weather outside. The restaurant was really quite good. The service was attentive but discreet and the order taken efficiently and waiting times just right. The food was well presented and tasted fantastic, including the vegetarian option which in many places does not. Other restaurants could learn from how the staff at this hotel work and pay attention to the small things. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to others without delay.

Wonderful stay in the excellent Chablis room. Exceptional food and service, not one complaint.

Lovely afternoon tea on New Years Day! :) although the service was a bit slow, however it was very busy, but still had a lovely set of scones freshly baked and some cake! Very nice atmosphere!

1 STAR FOOD HYGEINE RATING SAYS IT ALL! Run by the most pompous a*hole in England… They seem to run on the principle that a fool and his money are easily parted and if you charge people heavily enough they will falsely believe they are getting a service that is a cut above the rest but you are getting poorer hygiene standards than a rough old Friday night high street kebab shop and paying a premium for it too. Feel free to look up their hygiene rating and you will see "major improvement required" Avoid like the plague or catch a disease similar.

Very nice lunch. All well presented and good kids meal.

The service, comfort and catering standards, are without a doubt, among the best available in a very wide area.
