Had a presecco afternoon tea. Fabulous food lovely decor friendly and attentive staff.
Will be returning.

Had a couple of really good meals plus afternoon tea. Plus we had good service.

Compliments to the chef today, roast beef was fantastic and the cauliflower cheese was the best I've ever had!

Thank you for our amazing 'free' meal last Friday 7th June. I won the Facebook competition last month.
Every course was delicious and beautifully presented. We were well looked after and attended.
A beautiful place with lovely staff. It was a lovely experience, especially as I didn't have to pay lol.
We shall definitely return.

Lovely lunch @theswanlongmelford with Emma Rock. Sunny garden with comfy chairs in which to enjoy burger and fries and a glass of fizz. Lovely, cheerful staff & food & drinks not expensive. Will be back soon.

Honestly amazed people go back here, the food took ages, they didn’t bring half the stuff we asked for and when it did come it was either wrong or poorly cooked. And to top it off there was no one else in the restaurant, so they couldn’t even blame how busy they were.

The 2nd time in a row I have been very disappointed with service and quality. Having arrived for brunch our reservation had been forgotten. We then sat down to be told they were out of stock of quite a few vital ingredients for the different breakfast options. We had to ask staff multiple times for things we had already ordered and breakfast took a long time to come. When my English breakfast arrived the eggs were over cooked and the amount of food did not reflect the price. Maybe they had a big night before which is why staff were off the pace, this was made more evident by a half drunk pint of ale left in the men's toilet. Gave this place a 2nd chance but will certainly not be giving it a 3rd, disappointed is an understatement.

Nice building with a lovely outside space. The drinks are expensive as is the food, which we found very disappointing. Shame as its all there really.

Excellent choice for lunch. Pretty garden with comfortable garden furniture. Delicious salads.

Very poor breakfast — overpriced and lacking basic breakfast items. Would not recommend at all. Came away very disappointed.

The interior/ambience is quite charming, delightful. The staff are friendly too. BUT the meal was very disappointing. Ordered Sole. Out of stock, so Plaice was substituted, (with permission). It arrived as one of those piles if food, which I feel has a lot of fingerprints all over it, and I left EXTREMELY hungry. I'm not a huge eater, but this simply wasn't a main course. No reduction on the price either for a Plaice substitute. We all know Sole and Plaice are quite different categories. Shall not visit again, unless for a quick drink or a cup of tea. OR they INCLUDE more vegetables in their main course. As I say the interior is delightful.

Having been to many afternoon teas, this was by far the best for food. However the service was extremely poor. On arrival the waitress spilt wine across the table, to which we offered to move, no further apologies. We were at the sitting for over two hours and no one attended the table to ask for further drinks, we had to get up and find someone to ask. We proceeded to continue the lunch for another hour with no service, in the end we went to the front bar to pay and go elsewhere. There was no acknowledgement of us the entire sitting and the atmosphere was dull. It’s a real shame thar we felt the waitress was disconcerted. This was my friends birthday and disappointing.

Very nice hotel. Lovely food but perhaps a little on the steep side price wise. Friendly staff. Very relaxed feel. Enjoyed a fab afternoon tea in the sunny courtyard. Lovely.

Just returned from having afternoon tea, quite disappointed the staff where very pleasent and assisted us to our table we asked to sit outside as it was such a lovely day, which was not a problem. We didn't have to wait long for our food to come out to us. I would like to suggest that you offer a choice of sandwiches on booking. The scones were really quite small. Also afternoon tea always comes with tea or coffee we should not have to pay for this on top of the 15.95 charged for the food. We have had several afternoon teas and 99% had refills of tea and coffee in the price. Presseco was included but maybe this should be charged extra. I also informed on booking that we had a child under 2 with us and no child friendly options were offered.

Great experience all round, only marred due to a mix-up on ordering — which led to two meals being delivered 20 mins before the third. Waiter couldn’t have been more apologetic and wanting to make amends, offered free deserts. Food was first class and with otherwise excellent and very efficient service. Excellent quality of produce and with lovely relaxed but classy atmosphere. Cosy too on a chilly April evening.

Lovely pint of Green King Heritage Pale Ale and posh Gin. And some Mexican spiced nuts. Noisey and friendly locals.

Excellent food, however staff could have been a little more attentive — seemed distracted by a large party in another room so service was very slow.

Lovely cosy venue with incredibly accommodating staff! Chef and staff adjusted dishes for my dietary requirements with no hesitation going out of their way to make an effort. Would highly recommend!

Stopped in for lunch today food and service excellent definitely first class.

So booked a table for my mums birthday on Saturday for 4 people. I have to say the decor is very eclectic mixture of modern and traditional comfort. It certainly looked inviting and of a high standard. We ordered from the menu, which on reflection it looks as though it'd designed for the customer to experience the whole muse bouche, canapés, starter, main course and desert. I guess to fill you up. We were very hungry but decided just to order a mains and possibily a dessert. However, it became apparent, when the food arrived, why the customer should order the whole menu. Portion sizes were very small (embarrassingly), two chicken dishes were dry and tasted like stuffing (not chicken), there were leeks but that was it, two cubes of chicken and leeks. We waited for further veg to arrive, it didn't I ordered the lamb, which tasted ok, certainly got a liquorice hit, but I was starving and it was only the size of a mug, lamb on crushed new potatoes. The only decent size meal was the catch of the day (whiteing) the triple fried chips, were so cooked the were nearer crisps, but at least value for money. Talking of which the prices relative to the portion were extortionate. We will always pay for good food and value. I've eaten at many of the top restaurant in suffolk Essex and london. But this was robbery. So voicing our disappointment to the 'Manager', she offered to replace the chicken meals with a cup of tea, or coffee?

Pleasant afternoon business meeting in comfortable surroundings. Staff attentive but unobtrusive.

Not fine dining! Everything about this place suggests quality and fills you with anticipation, until the food arrives. The food is very expensive, which is fine if the quality is there, but it's not. Our party of 5 adults had starters, mains, only 2 wanted desserts and 2 bottles of wine. The bill was £275. It started off well, the restaurant is very nice and the service was ok. Two of our party are vegetarian which was ok as they had a separate veggie menu. Before the starters arrive you get a complimentary ‘amuse bouche’ which was very nice, but was fish so no good for the vegetarians! I had the crab starter (£14) which was tiny and not very nice and even had bits of shell in it that I had to pick out of my mouth. Main was the sirloin steak which was excellent and cooked perfectly but was barely warm when it arrived and was almost cold before I finished. One of our party had the wrong meal delivered and had to wait 10 mins for the correct meal to be cooked so could not eat with the rest of the party. The table hadn't been laid properly, there was no salt on the table so I had to walk around to find a spare one. When I complained about the poor quality of the food the waitress said “yeah, we get that a lot”! Speaking to a local resident about our experience, he said the restaurant used to be very good but had gone down hill recently. Many of these may be considered minor issues but when you are paying £50-£60 a head you expect better.

Bit overpriced but the food was exceptionally good.

We often come to the Swan and every single time is better than the last, the food is just amazing. If I could give it 10 Stars I would because I could eat everything twice!

Nice gastro pub, great tasting food… However the brunch portion size was a little on the small side.

Food to die for. With luxurious rooms with such comfortable beds. Definitely stay there again.

Went there last night and sat there for 40-50 minuets before being told the kitchen has now finished cooking. I then said to the female waitress in a black suit that when I asked for a menu I thought she would pop over to the table to take my order. Instead of an apology she just grunted how was I suppose to know you wanted something to eat! I said that I asked for a menu and thought that it was obvious that I wanted something to eat as I was sitting with it in front of me for all that time and the table next to us had there order taken and had eaten before I was asked. She just replied by saying she couldn't tell I wanted something or not. So I went home hungry.

Fabulous dining experience! The freshest oysters, wonderful hay smoked venison and perfect steak, with delicious accompaniments. Very creative and scrummy puddings too. Particularly lovely champagne. All presented by cheerful, warm, efficient staff. Lovely, memorable evening.

This was some of the most creative and quality food I've had in all of England. I was very impressed with the chef's choice of flavours with the starter, main and dessert. Delicious! Will come again.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had! A beautiful building. Lovely service! The food was incredible… I had the tomahawk steak. My wife the monkfish risotto. Couldn't fault anything.

By far the best place to eat in Melford and probably surrounding area. Food is always excellent, the wine list well thought out and service is consistantly good.

What can I say well worth a visit. A must for a great meal. Staff excellent.

My girlfriend & I have dined here twice now & both times the food was lovely. The dishes are well presented & the menu thoughtfully put together. The restaurant recently had an update giving the place a more contemporary feel. Well worth a visit & if the weather is good there us plenty of room for al fresco dining in their garden.
