Was refused a room when it was already booked, I was then told that a refund would be given however they did not process it even after me asking politely time after time. Avoid at all costs, this is the WORST hotel I have EVER been to in my life, horrible location, building and rooms, yet the staff were helpful whilst we were there.

If I could give this dump no stars I would. Without a doubt, THE worst place I've ever stayed. We got a bad feeling when we saw the outside but when we were shown to our family 'apartment' we were disgusted. Filthy, run down, dirty bed linen… I could write a book on the state of the place. How is it operating as a hotel? The only positive thing was that the staff were friendly and helpful. This place should have been demolished years ago.

Just someplace get your head down great staff.

I have had the displeasure of staying here twice. Both times with the misfortune of the same room. Both times with the same displeasing experience. Visit 1: wind back to 2002. I was fencing at the nearby stadium and my team were all booked in. Very few of us made it through the night. We were in the room by the train tracks in the corner. Burned out plug sockets, no plugs in the sink or bath hole. Blood on the shower curtain. No curtains. No heat. Vomit (not stains on the floor). Peeling wallpaper. Mould. Water stains on the wall and soiled bedding. Demanded a refund and left. Wind forward a good chunk of my life to late 2017. Couldn't remember the name of that travesty so ended up booking a cheap stay over en route for a trip to alton towers. As soon as I got there it was like hell opened up. The building from the outside isnt bad, its typical of its era. Inside, some of the original structure does still hold charm, the people that run it are nice people (there ends the nice things). I thought ok. Its no frills. This was a 16 year gap give it a go. So carried on. Step by step I knew I was going to that same room. Walked in. Now two big plus points… bedding was clean and matress was also. Plus, there were now curtains. However, all drained in to insignificance by poor care of the room. Still stained, still mouldy, still peeling, now very very smelly. I wish I still had the pictures as I swear it is the sane carpet and bath suite from all of those years ago.

Must say we stay every year and will continue to as the atmosphere is lovely but unfortunately our room was not quite up to scratch.

A++ for the staff. This is a bit of a fixer upper. If u need somewhere to stay and keep warm then its great. Would not reccomend long stay. No lift however im sure the staff would be happy to accomodate.

The FREE PARKING is monitored by Not So Smart parking you leave and even though they at the hotel have taken your plate number you start getting fines of up to £1, 600.00 for a week you keep calling the crown and they keep saying it is sorted LIES more bills from a Debt Recovery Plus for £1, 600.00 what do the crown say oh we can't sort it it is up to you. Update here is their latest response Note the A PCN not 7, Dear Guest. We are sorry to hear that you have received a PCN for using the hotel car park. Please note any disputes need to be raised to Smart parking directly and hotel can not assist you on this matter. We can provide you with the confirmation that you have used the hotel facilities and you are a genuine customer who is entitle free parking at the hotel during you stay. However your registration number need to be validated at the reception up on check in to exempt any PCN generated. The hotel car park is clearly displayed to all the customers the terms and conditions to use the hotel car park. You have also got the right to appeal this PCN which motorist need to do which has again clearly stated in the PCN. Hope this will provide you answers to your questions. Regards Crown Hotel.

I called for an appointment, my colleague failed to turn up, obviously no fault of the hotel, the receptionist wasn't sure as to where I could wait, didn't seem to understand what I was asking? Eventually she said would.

Yes the building is in need of modernisation and the rooms are a little shabby, however my stay last night was fine. Bedding and towels nice and clean, cosy warm room with modern TV and hot drink facilities. Big skip in car park full of old furniture so presume the modernising is ongoing. For the price I had a comfy stay. Staff were also very friendly.

For the price it's more than adequate. Traditional Victorian property a bit run down still living in the 1970s but rooms are spacious and bed linen is clean. Longton's got a couple of pubs a decent eat in Indian and a great steak house in nearby Dresden. Remember it's iro£25-30 and warm enough if you open the radiator valve! Bags of hot water for a bath too. I am on business here and it suits me fine!

Breakfast was good but rooms were cold and bathrooms weren't great in terms of cleanliness (mould on showerhead, toilet etc) and size.

By far the worst hotel I've ever been in my life. To start, check-in at 14pm and check out at 10pm, which means that instead of being 24h in the hotel (12/12) these 20. Of this I was not informed beforehand and they had me at the door hour and something until I was able to check in.
Once inside, my room was in a huge hallway full of doors, I think I remember I had to pass 3 to get to mine. Inside the room, the worst shower ever conceived by man (a hilillo of water came out as if it were a fountain in the park) and a bed in which the irons were stuck.
Not to mention that it is very far of Hanley, more or less to 15m by car and something like to 45 walk. Not recommended.

Shocking… Shoddy customer service, room was practically a walk in freezer, the bath tub randomly spewed up black slugde throughout the night. We would never even entertain the idea of booking another night in this filthy doghole! literally not even worth the one star rating!

OMG… SERIOUSLY… ALL I WAS LOOKING FOR WAS A STOP OVER POINT for me and my family as we went to Alton towers for two days… I booked this hotel a few weeks in advance… brilliant. Happy with price… knew it was a budget hotel… knew not to expect much… I booked a room for me and my four kids. And a double room for my mum and my cousin… check in time was up to 11pm. Perfect. No rush from alton towers… we arrived at 10pm… all exhausted from an amazing day… to get there to be told that we are now in 3 double rooms… as the apartment we were suppose to be staying in wasn't available… well my kids were then upset as they would of been separated from me… we checked out the rooms which were on all different floors. So I wasn't even near my children… the 2nd floor smelt like drugs… I went down to complain. To be told there's nothing they can do… to also find out that the apartment too wasn't available for a while. So why didn't they phone me. Nk phone call at all to warn us… I phoned around other hotels. But obviously they were fully booked… we ended up putting bedding on a floor in one of the hotel rooms so we could all be together and I was told we would get a full refund… one month later… they rang today to say we have recieved our refund… but we havent… and only for half the price we paid… as we still stayed in a room… we had no choice… THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BUDGET HOTEL AT ALL… DISCTUSTING … DIRTY… AND VERY UNORGANISED…

This place has many problems but honestly is a deal if you are a traveler. A private place to lay your head at night is what you get. The price is very cheap for a reason. There is Wi-Fi on the ground floor too.

Not meny people in not much of a bar hsd one drink and came out.

Small, not the nicest rooms and bathrooms but despite size it is ensuite and cheap. Kinda get what you pay for. Free parking.

Adequate bit run down but somewhere just to lay your head for the night.

Not much going on no toilet paper and no tea and coffee uncomfortable bed pretty poor.

Loved it. Breakfast wasn't really available though had to go to tesco across street.

Close to local amenities but the rooms could do with decorating and a general clean as there are holes in the walls and some of the areas in the room are a bit grubby. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Get what you pay for. Needs a lot of love and attention and a good decorator to sort it out. Nice friendly staff though.

Horrendous place. What should be a nice building with period features has been turned into something resembling a backstreet slum. Dust and random stains everywhere. I couldn't stay the night in the end and left after a few hours. Staff were nice but I couldn't spend the night in those conditions.

Dirty, run down, TV worked but had no sound, kettle didn't work, one of the light shades had obviously previously been on fire, cracks in the wall, paint flaking and falling off, sticky floor etc.

Absolute flea pit! I understand this place is cheap however; the stench was worse than a damp dog bed, the lighting was… well lets just say I needed the torch on phone to see where I was going, leaking ceiling was inside our room and dirctly outside of our room door, some how there was finger prints all over the walls (and I mean everywhere) in our room, the bed was full of black hair, flees and bodily fluids! Myself andthe missus where thinking of sleeping in the car it was that bad! Thankfully we found another room in Leek approx 10 mile away at VERY short notice. We arrived the second location to pay and make sure the room was ours for the night, then had to drive back and collect out belongings from the ironically named "Crown"! We later found out place is used by locals who enjoy the odd prostitute or 2 a week! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! They don't do refunds apparently also however; Will fight toothe and nail to get my money back!

A place past its glory days run down tiered and probably flea ridden.

Low expectations toilet doesn't flush in roomega 207 haven't even tried the shower yet pretty scared to as I haven't brought my own towel and I'm not keen on using the hotel towels after waking up to a bug crawling in my bed, the quality of the rooms are disgusting wish if read the reviews before hand seen cheap hotel and booked straight away (bad idea, never again) I would say though the staff seem friendlyrics and welcoming that's all I can say that gets them a 1 star I have also reported this hotel to the health inspectors.

Very basic room but clean and allows dogs to stay. Would stay again.

If you judge a hotel by how likely you'd recommend it to others, and if you'd stay again, then this place fails on both counts. Review based on a 7 day stay for £180 in a single room.

What can I say family room £35. I had low expectations and they weren't exceeded. The staff were friendly. But 1 pillow per person wasn't good nor was the lumpy matteress. It needs a good make over and modernisation. If you want no frills cheap accommodation for alton towers or for football you can't go wrong. I've stayed in travel lodges that were worse and cost more. It's cheap breakfast was £5 per head and kids eat free. But in all honesty after 9 hours at Alton Towers and a beer your going to sleep remembering £35 peak season you can't go wrong unless you really want to find it.

Two star hotel and two star review, can't say much more than that.

Hotel stunk, bed was lumpy and not clean there was hair allover the bath and only one towel in the Room, when I asked for more as I had booked a room for 3 people I got told there wasn't any so had to wait until they had washed some. Also the radiator wouldn't turn off so had to sleep with the window open which was directly opposite a train station. Wi-Fi only worked on ground floor not in the rooms also everything was dirty.

This Hotel is not fit for animals — AVOID AT ALL COST They owe us £180 pounds and still not refunded They took money from our card days before we even arrived. No taking action to recover as criminal offence rather than civil. Rooms are disgusting, when we arrive people at reception complaining about bugs in there beds, we still took our keys see the rooms and told them we refuse to stay in them due to being dirty. No cleaned, toilet was in a mess, stains on sheets, not hovered, very noisy, no food available downstairs bar was jank! Our dog stays in cleaner accommodation when we go on holiday, honestly pay the extra and avoid this place with its boarded up windows. You have been warned — gave it 1 star for the reception guy who felt sorry for and was very polite.

One to avoid, disgusting rooms, dirty bathroom, so bad we couldn't; stay the night and they don't give refunds.

Yes a cheap night's rest. But you're unlikely to get much rest with the paper thin walls, an uncomfortable mattress, the smell of stale smoke and. What was that. Oh that's right the corridor on the 1st floor smells of wee. Good job they have a continental breakfast to refresh you in the morning. Sorry that should read a bowl of cornflakes a glass of orange juice and two slightly toasted pieces of bread served. Yum.
