Last minute booking which I made a mistake on the dates but the manger was very accommodating and made the required changes to the booking at no extra cost. So pleased with our stay and everything exceeded our expectations. Great food, cocktails and breakfast brought to the room!

Second visit and just as impressed as the first time. Staff could not have been more helpful or attentive. They have done an amazing job of creating an atmospheric tastefully decorated interior and the food was excellent both times, highly recommended.

This place IS NOT always open! Just arrived after travelling from London for a meeting and have been asked to leave the premises as my meeting isn’t until 11! Not sure how much my company has spent in this place but we will not be back! I suggest you remove “always open” from your Facebook page!

Sadly the Archangel has gone very much downhill over the past few months. This is shown in the lack of management, slow bar service and under whelming food. Once THE Place to eat and drink in Frome is now a shadow of its former self. The fish was ‘off’ and the side order came after everyone has finished their meal!

I stayed here the night before my wedding and the team were absolutely amazing especially Tia who couldn’t do enough to make my stay memorable. I booked the luxury suite for myself with one double and one single for my bridesmaids. All the rooms were beautiful but the suite in particular was stunning with a cast iron bath. The evening food and breakfast was absolutely delicious and Tia even chilled a bottle of prosecco to bring up to us on the morning of my wedding, and organised for us to have breakfast earlier so that we could be back in our rooms for hair and make up. They also directed everyone to my room on the morning making all prep an absolute breeze. Fantastic venue and fantastic team (especially Tia) Thank you all. Will definitely be back with the husband!

Shocking service at the bar this evening, my friend ordered a cocktail which was really awful. After complaining the bar man tasted and agreed it was indeed disgusting. He called the ‘manager’ over to arrange a refund who decided to become very rude, aggressive and defensive over his awful cocktail. We left. And will never return.

Sat inside as it was raining, but usually in lovely courtyard. Lovely lunch, although overpriced for 1 small piece of rarebit, 'cheese on toast'!
Also the bill was brought to us with half bottle of wine left, never asked if we wanted dessert or coffees, just a few of the finer points!

Beautiful hotel and room. Staff were really friendly, helpful and at times went beyond what I would expect. We had dinner and the food was amazing, lovely drinks too. Breakfast was delicious, best vegan sausage I've ever had! We are already discussing coming back! Thank you!

Delicious food, beautifully served. (But please, turn the heating up! It was freezing on Sunday evening & almost spoilt our meal. )

Stayed here a few times over the past couple of years and have just left after another great break. Love the quirky rooms with roll top baths — so reasonably priced. Great for food and drink and a warm welcome from friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back next year!

Not a hotel for me, no car park on site. Tin bath in room, very basic room and I mean very basic room. Food ok not a lot to choose from and if like beer not the bar for u and for price should be better.

Great bar, with several separate rooms and a decent outside courtyard garden. Both the wine and cocktails are good here.

What a lovely pub, we only had a couple of drinks so we can't testify to the quality of the food, but the pub itself is a real find. Lots of quirky rooms off the central corridor, nice garden and a decent selection of local beers.

Quite a good space, indoor bar, good seating outside plus the corridor and a couple of other rooms to sit. Haven't eaten there yet but heard good reviews. Drinks a tad too expensive though.

We went this weekend to The Archangel in Frome to spend Saturday night there. We paid £175 for the night and reserved dinner in their restaurant. We arrived early and my husband checked with the staff if there is any parking and they said ‘no’ we have to park in a public car park but they did not even offer to keep our suitcase while going to park the car and were told to come back when the room is ready! We came back later, checked in and went to have drinks in the courtyard. It was very warm and I went to ask for water and ice, the Manageress, Michelle Keegan gave me a few cubes of ice in a pint glass and I asked politely if I could have some more ice as it was very hot outside and she said not really because she is running short on ice. I said but it is really hot and the water is warm she said she cannot give me ice! I did not argue with her and felt like going to Tesco to get her ice. I was very upset as we just paid £175 for their best room (without air conditioning) and she cannot spare some ice for me. Then we went for dinner and we were sweating. There was not even a fan in the restaurant but the staff had one in the bar! We ordered our dinner and for the main we ordered rib-eye steak which had no flavour and had been cooked without any seasoning as was the rest of the dish. They added mushrooms which tasted like boiled with no seasoning. There was some green sauce on the steak with some watercress on the the top of it.

Very nice vegetarian lunch in a lovely courtyard garden. However, disappointed that 10% service is automatically added to payment. This is stated in very small print at the foot of the menu.

We live in Frome and have been to Archangel several times, but this visit will be our last. From the condescending waiter who thought it necessary to explain how appetizers and mains work, to the waittress who insisted on checking my 80 year old father's signature on his credit card "for security" when he didn't add a gratuity (because they already put one on the bill), to the menu which has become stale and unchangeing, we have zero reasons left to spend our money here when all you get in return is attitude. Worth visiting once, but not more than that.

Lovely place to stay and very rustic, however it does get noisy as it's a pub but you can't fault them.

Well situated and slightly quirky building that is likely to be lively on evening and weekends. The menu looks okay but we didn't stay to eat because there is better food elsewhere. Beer was well served and conditioned so no complaints there. They also do accommodation which I believe is 'mid range' and quite comfortable. My hesitation comes from the fact that the Archangel hasn't really got an identity. It has elements of chain gastro pub about it but also a more independent feel.

Beautiful rooms in a lovely place with a good vibe. Ross the manager runs a professional and friendly establishment. There is regular live music and other events, including weekly Pilates classes.

Yummy cocktails, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Love the cider, music events they have. Drinks are just a little pricey compared to other places in the town.

This place is amazing. The food is gorgeous but we love going here on a Saturday evening and sitting of a sofa trying all of their amazing cocktails.

Always a great place to come for drinks or food. Had a whole group of friends for dinner here recently. Staff always look after you very well.

Over all very good experience. Food tasty and well presented. Rumor has it that the restaurant can suffer a millais when an experience chef is not at the helm. Though this was NOT the case tonight. Bar boisterous and vibrant almost too much so although this would be attractive to others. Service relaxed, friendly, informal and with grace.

Having seen this pub/restaurant only from the outside I was intrigued and have been pestering Paul to go there. On my birthday we had tickets for the cheese and grain and Paul had booked a table for us at this most interesting pub… I was looking forward to it!
I wasn't disappointed, we stopped and read the information re the history of the building which is in the immediate entrance, we then stepped into the building, were met with the most eclectic range of rooms, furniture and fittings… all somehow in keeping with and not detracting from the bare, rustic original walls and ceilings. The bar stocks a good range of gins and cocktails along with all the regular stuff, the staff were attentive and very friendly, we were led upstairs to the stunning restaurant where you sit amongst modern wood and glass but under the ancient roof which is adorned along the rafters with numerous candles (not real for obvious reasons) the way the interior is designed allows maximum display of all the original features in their decrepit glory whilst you sit in warmth and stylish comfort to enjoy your food.
I had the wookey cheddar souffle, Paul had calmari… both starters well cooked and delicious
I then went on to an absolutely gorgeous chicken Caesar salad, now I am fussy about these and have eaten many of varying standards… this one was excellent. Paul had blade of beef with wholegrain mustard mash… again he said it was very flavoursome and well cooked.

Great pub set in a really cool old coach house in Frome. Love the small little snugs and rooms off the main corridor. Food is brilliant. We've been here a couple of times for sandwiches or light lunches, all of which have been lovely and pretty quick to arrive. Good choice of beers and coders on tap.

Pretty cool place… great Xmas nibbles we got to try at the time. Lovely rooms. Very trendy the whole thing.

Great bar located in central Frome with relaxing rooms equipped with sofas and fireplaces for guests to use as they please, linked by a stone tunnel. Really cool place to have some drinks with friends.

Great place for drinks and/or dinner, relaxed atmosphere, lots of delicious cocktails too.

Moody staff when we visited, could smell the loos, food was pretty good.

We had a great evening with friends and family here on Saturday night. We were given the private dining room which looks like a library on the first floor and were very well served and waited upon by the excellent staff. The food was universally agreed to be superb and before we had a relaxed time in the bar sampling some of the more esoteric cocktails on offer. My only regret was the post meal 'jam doughnut' cocktail!

Just returned from the Archangel having had a gorgeous meal with 9 friends. The hotel had set the Library aside for our use and the waiting staff were so attentive. Our party had a mixture of starters, mains and desserts and in each case the food was absolutely first class. My lamb just melted in the mouth — fabulous. My wife enjoyed a couple of the special gin cocktails and we relaxed in one of the little alcoves after our meal. Great food, great service and a wonderful venue — highly recommended.

Well worth a visit. 4/5 had a roast and I had the burger. No complaints from any of us. Beautiful dining room.

Great service, nice environment but the drinks are more on the expensive side of things but they do have a great selection.

The worst experience and customer service myself and my family have experienced in a very long time. If you have a family you should avoid staying here at all costs. If I could leave a zero star rating I would. Noisy, to the point of getting hardly any sleep. Poor customer support and zero resolution of issues raised, other than key staff leaving unwanted voice messages in passive/aggressive way. Huge disappointment.

Sunday lunch, roast beef and roast belly pork, consistently good quality and good value. Our friends, who joined us, thoroughly enjoyed what they had.

What a fantastic place! We were staying at the Premier Inn and decided that we wouldn't pay for over priced food, we found the Archangel by accident and we couldn't have been happier… The staff were very friendly and welcoming and after a short wait to be seated we have a fantastic meal and a few drinks and the price was half what we would have paid for two of us to eat at the Premier inn… This place is brilliant and we will definitely be back to eat and stay next time.

The best cuisine in town : great presentation, a formidable combination of flavours, like a little plate of art designed for our pleasure. And then there's the service. Friendly, but not intrusive. Efficient, but not rushed. And, even at the busiest times, there's always a smile. Some people may think I'm suspect to talk about the place like that, seeing I am a regular… Highly recommend. For a drink, or as a treat for the family, a romantic dinner for two, or a night out with the lads. There's the reason why I became a regular. Give it a go, but be warned: they might make a regular of you too! …

Was undoubtedly the worst food I have ever had the misfortune to have had, you would be better off going to Wetherspoons or a burger van. I opted for the fish and chips, the fish came sloppily presented on a bed of garden peas now infused with the grease from the fish (similar to you see prison food being thrown on a plate) I use the term fish very lightly, the chef or the frozen fish supplier must have the best filleting skills known to mankind, in comparison to a slice of Parma ham the fish would have made the ham look like a doorstep, I would not be exaggerating if I said the fish was 2m/m thick, to avoid violating the trades description act they should call it Greasy batter with a very subtle hint of fish, the "hand cut chips" must have been done by a meat clever wielding maniac, they turned up as I could only best describe as the left over scraps you get in a chip shop when they have finished frying for the night and are cleaning out the bits that have settled in the fryer! And by the way, if anyone is thinking "why didn't you send it back. Well I did and this was the second offering after my first complaint so after waiting for it to be re-cooked the rest of the party had finished so I had to endure eating this awful offering on my own… over all assessment… yuk yuk yuk yuk worst food ever.

Nice look and feel to the pub. Plenty of outdoor seating in a courtyard at the back. Food was ok to good. The kids Yorkshire puddings were missing from their meal, when we chased them on this we were told 'we've run out, we told you when you ordered' they hadn't.

Great beer garden that's a real sun trap for early summer drinks. The above was shown a year ago but not posted… Unfortunately I've now changed my rating from 4 stars to 2. The management have recently decided to make half of the tables in the garden "no smoking". While I appreciate this may appeal to some, it's been done in a way that means all of the remaining tables are in the shade (the garden is L-shaped) … not great for smokers in the summer. Also, last week I had lunch here… A simple club sandwich with a side of fries. Unfortunately for something simple it was not very nice. It cost £9 and for the price I expected a lot better. The fries were served in a cup (yes, a cup) which I think was done for presentation but meant few actual fries. If you want better food and a beer garden with more sun for everyone, I'd suggest The Artisan… I had a club sandwich there yesterday which was much better too!

Very nice and nice to take a beer in English. If you want to eat well don't try it. Meat of poor quality, and Spanish olive oil is bad (not extra virgin) at the price of 24-carat gold. Kitchen = 2 out of 10

Very busy lively place to be buzzing great food service ok.

Location is lovely its on the maim street in frome. The place itself is very stylish and good seating areas with lounge chairs and sofas. To the rear of the pub is the outdoor area though very nice you take your chances with the pigeons. Did not have a meal just drinks but menu looked good but a little expensive.

Wanted to make a reservation for father´s day 2016 for 1pm but was told that it could only be for 12.30. Agreed to it thinking that the place must be so popular and obviously fully booked. Arrived 12.45 and to my surprise the place was only half full. The empty tables around us were only occupied about 1hr after we arrived. First disappointment. The guy who took our orders was almost unfriendly and visibly not enjoying his job. Not nice to have a very negative energy emanating from the person who is supposed to make you feel welcome. The menu was basic but the food nicely done. Nothing extraordinary but I guess I was expecting more considering the upmarket feel to the place and prices. Service was just OK. Forgetting a few things from the order and then not even apologising for the inconvenience. In short a great looking place that could easily improve by upgrading the menu and improving the service. Until then I don´t think I´ll go again.

Nice building, beautiful inside but everytime we go service is very slow. Apart from that, the garden area is a good spot in the summer and drinks selection is good.

The Archangel is a beautiful little place to stay in the picturesque town of Frome! Can't fault a thing with our stay… the rooms were to a great standard, food was delicious and the staff more than welcoming! If we are ever back down that way we will definitely stay again!

Stunning boutique gastropub in the centre of town. I went mid week around christmas time and they served up some lovely home made hot cider. The decor is very romantic and cosy.

After first coming to Frome and finding the lovely Archangel pub, we had several great nights and a couple of lovely meals. Today we went for a spot of lunch and, despite the place being more than half empty and us being well within the serving window, we were turned away. "Can we get the bar menu? " "Sorry, we're fully booked" "So we can't even sit at one of the tables and just order a sandwich" "Sorry". They clearly were not fully booked. At least half a dozen tables were empty. We had heard that this place had gone downhill recently and it looks like the rumours are true. Appalling service letting down what was once a real high spot in the town. A great shame.

Om our way home to Bucks from a week-end in Bath and Bristol on a Sunday evening we decided to stop in Frome and see if there was somewhere to eat. We found this amazing hotel/ restaurant by accident, but what a find. From the outside you could almost pass it by but once inside you enter this amazing building. We were greeted by Eve who confirmed they were serving food and over the next 3 hours we were not only treated to some fine food but sitting up in the hanging glass restaurant we experienced one of their open-mike sessions, listening to a range of singers and musicians who obviously enjoyed sharing their talents. All the staff were friendly and before we left we were shown some of the "dramatic" rooms — my husband's description. We will be back not only for the exceptional food and service but next time for at least an overnight stay.

I have been living in frome all my life and thought I would try out the archandle when it first opened up. After waiting for over 15 minutes waiting for service I decided to give up and leave without being served.

Here's a restaurant that does not serve you in the restaurant area because they are "understaffed". However, they will serve you if you sit in the bar. The bar and restaurant is adjacent. The bar tables were disgusting. Interesting. Take some lessons from a professional establishment and hire appropriate staff to run the place. If you can't serve people on a Saturday, best let it to the pros.

Very very good but minor amounts of extra seasoning and it would be SUPERB! DELICIOUS.

Staff not aware of dietary requirements even though I had mentioned it twice at time of booking and when we arrived and the food was just ok. I have been 3 times as I thought it could have been a one off but same poor experience every time.
