Riding along the Taunton-Bridgewater canal and we found this beauty the only place we came across in about 10 miles and it was OPEN!

Michael and his team were very welcoming & we stayed over in our campervan for a £5 charity donation on our way down to St Ives — perfect location a few minutes off M5 and level hard standing. Very quiet pub with nice conservatory with outside benches next to the canal — food options limited but hot, fresh and reasonably priced. Service was fantastic and staff very friendly — perfect stopover. Thank you for having us — we will be back.

Booking in, turned up and the whole place is shut? No one any where. Other people also trying to get in. No one answer phone nothing.

Just had an amazing meal steak and kidney pudding with loads of veg, friendly and warm pub would definitely recommend x.

Boat and Anchor is along the Bridgwater to Taunton Canal. Really nice atmosphere with a good selection of ales and ciders. Super nice food.

We used the pub as a, stop over with motorhome. The nice thing is they ask for 5.00 donation for charity. We will defo use this stop over often. Food great, staff very polite and helpful. Amazing settling by canal. Fishing bike rising or just chilling by the river.

My daughter and partner had the ploughmans which was all fresh and a mighty platefull. The ham egg and chips was what I expected. I have read many complaints and I could imagine if busy they would be stretched but very happy with our visit. On 11/07/19 for lunch.

Everything was "OK", nothing more and nothing that would really that make me want to go back, especially when there's so many other outstanding pubs locally. 3/5 star.

A good place to stay very clean with a comfortable room bar staff friendly very enjoyable breakfast my dog was welcome The external setting was great.

Clean light and airy in the conservatory/carvery. Plenty of food but bland. Beef was nice. Had a lemon meringue pie. Certainly home made but not the delicate morsel I was expecting! Would have been useful if a fight had broken out.

Very dated pub could be so much more. There appears to building work in the car park that make your arrival feel scruffy and none welcoming. I won't be visiting again.

Nice bar, clean rooms, nice beds, wasn't expecting too much but was surprised, close to both motorway and railway but never heard a thing, this was a stop off for our trip to Cornwall, very nice place, those who know leek, got a Denford vibe about it.

Sit outside, next to the canal and enjoy the countryside whilst supping a pint of local cider. Forget the world around you and relax. The main rail line passes in sight, the M5 is visible but the canal takes all your attention. Nice staff, nice atmosphere, good food and accommodation.

Dated… Rough looking from the outside. Very limited selection of good beers or wines. Staff were blaming of owners for lack of choice "I only pull the pints, its nothing to do with me" Such a shame as the location by the canal is lovely, but nothing made of it…

Friendly staff and good food. We parked up in our motorhome and had lovely overnight stay.

Called in for a couple of pints whilst on a walk along the canal. Only one ale on, Butcombe, but this was a nice pint. Friendly staff and the couple sat next to us had food which looked and smelt very nice.

Nice location beside the canal. I did not eat so I cannot comment on the food. The day I was there the kitchen looked chaotic but they were busy.

Clean, very friendly staff and convenient location. Nice view of the canal from my room, some road noise but not terrible. Recommended!

I just can't rate this place highly enough! The owners and staff were all brilliant, they bent over backwards to make sure my friends and I were comfortable and happy with everything. The food was beautiful and our rooms were spotless. Well done, Michael and Sue — we'll be back!

Not one to complain but went here yesterday with family and friends the food was poor when ours came out more like a kids portion and we paid good money. The staff were not friendly and welcoming wouldn't recommend at all.

Called in on the off-chance — on my way back to South Wales — having been to Taunton on the Sunday morning: lovely pub situated on the canal. Very nice lady at the bar served me the best pint of Carlsburg ever; I ordered double-ham, egg & chips with salad which was very good. Considering staying here when my wife & me next travel to Cornwall.

Very friendly staff and a homely atmosphere! Nice comfortable rooms. Stayed for business but would bring the family for the weekend.

Love to stop off here on way to Cornwall. Good food and friendly staff. Beer and coffee etc available. Next to the canal. Beer garden as dogs not allowed inside. Xx.

Daughter is waitress here so kinda biased that service staff are brill. Gone downhill over years but with help of customers can bring it back.

After taking a walk along the canal with our friends and children, we decided to stop at the boat and anchor for refreshments, we had a dog with us so the lovely lady behind the bar told us that we couldn't use the beer garden because of the dog but we could sit out the back next to the canal, which is fair enough, however there was a group of cyclists sitting out there having dinner, the area is fairly small and our children were playing and running about, we didn't want to annoy the other diners so knew friend said he would sit in that area with the dig so we could take the children into the beer garden to have our drinks, after being in there for about 2 minutes a very angry rude man came out and told us to get out with the children as the garden was closed, he then went on to say that we had to lift the children over the fence to get out and not let them climb on it! No idea where that comment came from, if the garden was now closed since our arrival then fair enough, but absolutely no need to be spoken to so rudely, I will never return to this establishment, such a shame that he couldn't have had the same grace and manners as the lady who served us.

Polite bloke behind the bar however. If you have low expectations and you are fine paying £9.95 for 'ploughmans' which is a pile of salad three bits of ham n cheese (which you'll have to persuade them to serve you — normally only one of thes is given) you will have a party here. The pickled onions are Lidl's worst range and the condiments come in a Heinz carrier. I also asked for brown bread. What materialised was a microwaved nuked white 'bread roll' which seemed to want to choke me as it was so chewy. It wasn't giving up without a fight. Every condiment had come from Makro and Happy Shoppers nothing fine about us range. Mind you an equally paletable luncheon was my friends microwaved baked spud n beans. Mmmmm! Will he ever forget? So looking for non fine dining, microwaved disappoint on a plate and a warm ale you'd better get here quick before the rush. Oh to top it the old lady who served us moaned at us as we had changed tables. Which we hadn't. We asked the polite bloke behind the bar if we could sit in the conservatory. So if you're wanting a dowdy motel, moaning staff, disappointing food and a price you'll be upset to pay the Boat and Anchor is your choice. Failing that there's a Burger King round the corner. (I never eat at Butger King! )

Terrible terrible terrible! please don't book! We paid for four people and only got 3 beds! The mirror wasn't even hung on the wall it was in the sink! Rooms were tiny, with miniature TVs. For someone that travels for work and stays in many many hotels and b&bs this is ridiculously over priced. I won't even get started on the customer service received, unbelievable! how anyone has 5 stared this is beyond me, a run down b&b with no people skills! Someone needs a crash course!

Hidden in a beautiful location next to the Bridgwater to Taunton canal down a country road only a few minutes drive from the M5 a friendly welcome with loads of space inside and out. Cute little dog had free rain and kept wondering around in the beer garden a chirpy parrot inside who seems to know everyone's ring tones but also a few words. Very nice food. Good old fashioned friendly place loved it.

Food and drinks on the pricey side. Rooms clean and they allow dogs. Canal just outside the B & B. Nice and quiet although right near the M5, therefore handy for onward travel to Devon or Cornwall. We were travelling to Newquay.

The pub with no atmosphere and in desperate need of a lick of paint. Walked in and was faced with a dirty, wet bar with spilt drinks all over it yet no customers and bar staff busy cleaning nearby. Ever heard of first impressions? Staff were friendly but food was boil in a bag at best. Expected more than a spoonful of frozen peas with my £13 lamb shank which was advertised as served with 'vegetables' had high hopes for this place but unfortunately will not be visiting again! Also beware of the card machine when paying, your fingers may get stuck to it with the layers of beer and filth!

Very friendly staff, lovely clean toilets. Good quality real ale. Although we didn't have a meal in the evening what we saw looked very nice, however can thoroughly recommend the breakfast. Will certainly return to there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our food, and loved the atmosphere and the presence if the gorgeous African grey. I have rated 4/5 because the sides of my dish presented on the menu were different to what the dish actually came with, and when I queried this with the waitress, she said the chef cannot do anything about it (it was a matter of swapping salad for the listed veg and onion rings). Other than that, the food was excellent and the setting was lovely.

Lovely meal and very friendly place. I had the carvery which was lovely and a very generous portion. My wife's ploughmans was great all well. The kids meals were really good and it was all good value. Great location as well right by the canal.

As a chef for many years today the 11th of August. I thought it maybe take a nice walk along the canal to this pub/restaurant. Which I must say look beautiful from the outside. But when on entering. It was more like walking in to a care home for the elderly. It was very dark inside. There where no menus to read not a good start. I did eventually find the menu written on huge board. I felt like a right prat. Having to cue to read a menu that was hugely over priced. As me a my girlfriend where to find out after ordering food. That being a rump steak that's was oven done a coverd in fat the mushrooms looked like they had been in the pan for a week. The best looking thing in the plate were the onion rings. But yet again covered in grease. The chips look anaemic and covered it dirt from the fryer. I myself went from ham eggs and chips. Surely a chef can't mess this simple dish up. But that's it you guessed it. The same poor anaemic chips ham covered in oil a one poor excuse of a fired yes that's just the one egg for a whole £9.50 working this out that is roughly a 92% market in the cost price. So hugely over priced. I recommend if you go for walk along the canal pack a picnic. You will be disappointed eating here. If you are looking for a nice place to stop for lunch this isn't it. The staff were very welcoming but the food was awful. The Stilton ploughman's consisted of a large slab of Stilton some limp salad and a bruised apple. A couple of out of date sachets of salad cream didn't improve the dish. I hate to say this but we would have got better food at the services.
