We have stayed here before and returned in July for our daughters graduation ceremony. This is an excellent location for the City Centre — it’s a lovely hotel with a wonderful spa and swimming pools. Rooms are fabulous and sumptuous. You won't regret or forget ever staying here. Friendly, helpful staff — all round a great stay for a wonderful occasion.

We loved our stay here and recommend highly to everyone. The staff were fantastic and professional, the room was homely and the spa facilities were incredibly relaxing and serene. Highly recommend to anybody wanting a relaxed weekend in Bath.

Situated just a very short walk from baths main high street, this hotel was located perfectly for us. We found the room to be very well equipped and roomy (we booked a courtyard room) and the spa facilities were beautifully put together. What was most impressive about our stay here was the customer service. This is a thank you to all of the staff at the Gainsborough for your incredibly efficient, friendly and professional service, I just could not fault a single moment during our stay. We will be coming back.

Rooms are on the slightly smaller side. But services are top notch. Front desk and maids are all very pleasant and helpful. The in room minibar is replenished everyday and is completed. The spa is included and best part is that the water is the same source Thermae spa next door which is expensive and has 1 hour wait. I can't recommend enough based on amenities, service and comfort.

Beautiful hotel with available access to your own private spa whenever you want. Room was modern Roman style, with beautiful vaulted ceilings… Felt like we were stayng in a guest room in a palace. The spa has several pools and amenities to offer that we've really enjoyed so far. I love how close the hotel is to the rest of the city… Everything is at most a 5-10 minute walk away which has made exploring Bath very convenient! The only points I can dock are for the expedience of the service staff (waited multiple hours with several calls for a request). For a 5 star hotel, this could be at a higher standard.

We’ve stayed at the Gainsborough a couple of times now, and we think it’s fantastic! The spa and facilities are incredible, making this one of our favourite hotels. The service is second to none — the hotel manager, Brian, is brilliant and very welcoming. Brian very kindly helped to reorganise our stay when we couldn’t make the dates we booked due to a knee injury. On top of that, he went out of his way to welcome us and made sure we had a wonderful stay. Thanks Brian!

Exactly what I would expect from a hotel stay. Every single member of staff were so friendly. Polite and couldn't do enough for You. The hotel is beautiful and perfect location. We truly were sad to leave. Thank you to all involved on our stay.

Beautiful hotel with fantastic customer service. Great bar with lovely cocktails and the restaurant has out-of-this-world food without feeling intimidating. Definitely want to come back!

My husband and I stayed for a 2 night break between Christmas and New year. We really enjoyed the hotel, the American Express Platinum deal was great — free dinner, continental breakfast and extended spa hours. Very central location and everything you need. The only constructive improvements are for the spa to be available for guests for longer hours and to reduce the cost of valet parking.

My partner and I spent the day at the Gainsborough for a spa day with lunch. We both had a full body massage & facial which was incredible. Both said that it was the best massage experience we've had! The food was incredible. Well presented, tasted fabulous and the service was extremely professional. Great Wine too! Will return in Jan 2018 for a 3 night stay.

Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms with very comfortable beds. The staff were very helpful, but gave you enough privacy. It is very well situated and was beautiful to walk around Bath during the Christmas markets. The only reason that I haven't given it a 5 star rating, is the breakfast. Unfortunately this was the only thing that let them down, in all honesty I do not think it is worth the money, especially when I had to chase waiters down several times, and my food was tepid.

Awesome. Beautiful location. Spa is incredible. Beautiful room which was ultra clean. Stocked mini bar (complementary). 4th floor so had an ace view! Very comfortable bed. At the price paid, you would anticipate a little more availability to use the spa pool area. We were slightly disappointed that the times were restrictive. We ended up planning our day/night time activities around it, effecting when we could eat out… if we wanted to get reasonable use of the spa area. It is a city where you definitely want to venture out as much as possible! This hopefully doesn't detract from incredibly helpful and friendly staff, beautiful location, exceptionally clean rooms, nice bar area and areas to relax.

Fantastic experience. The staff (including the Hotel Manager) were just perfect and really made us feel so comfortable. The spa is incredible and the junior suite was perfect for me. The dining experience was very memorable too. I'm going to be visiting again and can't recommend it enough.

Lovely stay here at the beginning of October. Rooms are large and spacious and the spa is out of this world. Will definitely return. Only downside and a slight oddity I have never come across before in a five star hotel is that the gentleman who parked my car would only accept cash. I would have liked to added this to my room bill as it was to go onto expenses. However I didn't want to make a fuss. Very expensive at £38.00 so will probably use the public car park next time.

Lovely stuff, super kind and helpful. Very nice room and beautiful spa. The receptionist James was extremely kind a real gentleman. Diana the spa therapist was amazing and super professional. Perhaps the price per night is definitely not expensive considering what they offer. Highly recommended 10+

Came here a couple of times. Once when they had a special lunch offer and this most recent time for our anniversary. We had the tasting menu. Really enjoyed it. Not too busy as we had it quite early and the food was lovely. Tried a few things that we don't eat very often (rabbit and duck) and the dessert was amazing (though we were really fully by the end of it). Very nice for a treat place.

The Gainsborough is a wonderful spot to stay in Bath. Centrally located, with a world class spa, stellar rooms and superb staff, this hotel made our stay in Bath a 5 star experience. I would recommend it and would gladly return.

This was our second visit to The Gainsborough and once again everything about the stay was perfect. I cannot fault the hotel facilities or staff in anyway. We stayed for two nights and had spa treatments on the Saturday which meant we got full use of the spa facilities all day. The facilities are impeccably clean and well maintained with staff replenishing towels etc the minute they are used. Despite being a Saturday in summer holidays it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The 1hr custom massage was the best massage I'd ever had and left me feeling fully relaxed. We will definitely be back!

Soooo luxurious! Spent hours enjoying a leisurely afternoon tea. So chic. Staff absolutely lovely.

Very attentive service. Large rooms with very comfortable furniture. Room service tastes great. Amazing location.

The service was passable but the food disappointed. I started with a smoked salmon dish that somehow was completely devoid of flavour — how they managed to get salmon that tasted of so little I'm unsure. Having also tried the ham hock however, I was glad to have picked the salmon as this was somehow worse. The main courses and desserts had minor issues, but the complete disaster of the starters coloured the whole experience and recovering from this would have required something special — which was lacking.

I went there on bank holiday. I had to wait in two hours queue. Steam room and sauna are not as hot. Was overcrowded. The main attraction is a top roof swimming pool. Your visit is limit for two hours only. Good value for money. Definitely will not go there again.

One word, WOWZERS! Everything about the Gainsborough exceeds expectations. The building itself is incredible, but the true gems is the staff. Everyone from the front desk to the waiters and spa team were well mannered and bent over backwards to accommodate our every need. The spa itself is next level, we truly felt a weight lifted off our shoulders after our sip in the mineral baths and treatments after. Would recommend the valet parking service if you are driving as Bath is a labyrinth of one way confusion.

Pros: complimentary access to the spa area, though very limited hours. Especially liked the (proper) sauna. Convenient location for walking around Bath. Cons: cleanliness level "just okay". Don't expect to get the sort of individual attention you may see in some review photos.

Amazing hotel with soft close everything. The staff are so professional and go out of their way to impress. Breakfast was included and it is normal continental breakfast. Loved it.

We had a fantastic time. It was the night of our wedding so when we arrived it was very late and we where shattered. The staff were so helpful and kind and got us to our room! The heated bathroom floor was epic and we have a bottle of bubbly on the house which was just ablously lovely. We also have the full English in the morning. Everyone was so poilet and the food was really tasty. It really topped off everything!

Stayed here for my partners birthday. We were given a complimentary room upgrade which was very nice. The spa is very impressive and well worth a visit if you stay at the hotel. The service at the hotel is of a very high standard as are the rooms. I'm sure I will return to stay again.

Me and my husband went for the day on Saturday. Was a absolutely amazing day and we both throughly enjoyed it. All the staff were great and so friendly not a single staff member walked past me without saying hello or smiling. Very relaxing atmosphere and the treatments were incredible! The best treatments we have ever had anywhere! All very professional and all round a lovely spa to visit. Will be back soon. Thank you to all the staff who made our day that extra special.

Wish I remembered the name of it. It was Italian. The professionalism and kindness of the staff throughout was so impressive. I was groggy on arrival after a late night and even with this, the staff were so friendly. It didn't take long for me to de-stress and have a fantastic spa day. We plan on returning this year to spend a week at the hotel.

Really loved our stay here. Staff were really friendly without being over the top or disingenuous. Our evening meal in the restaurant was superb, couldn't really fault it. Will definitely be back to this gorgeous place!

Nice hotel, lovely spa (but expensive and hotel guests only get free access for a couple of hours), lousy restaurant — really bad! Eat somewhere else.

Beautiful impeccable rooms, attentive friendly staff and service, amazing spa, we would've loved to stay many more nights! Spa is miles better than the public Thermae. Unfortunately and only downside was, that the breakfast wasn't included, which we got told by the time of payment and it was pretty overpriced. 25GBP/person.

Hotel is nice with a wonderful bar and bar manager. The concierge seems disorganised and there is no separation between the doormen and the Concierge. The spa is more expensive than the top spas in London and doesn't deliver value for money. The treatment rooms are sparse and boring with staff only moderately trained. Complimentary massages can not be booked on Friday or Saturday. The pool is stunning and well designed but is not open to guests during the day. This is a shame and probably should be explained slightly better. Rooms are big and we'll furnished with good bathrooms. However they are quite dark.

We had a lovely weekend break at The Gainsborough Bath Spa. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was splendid. The spa facilities are so beautiful and relaxing — we would highly recommend the spa. Thank you. Our only criticism would be the cost of breakfast and massages which are rather expensive. It would be much better if breakfast was included in the price of a room. Our bed was rather high, so a person with arthritis/disabilities might struggle to get in and out of bed.
