Pictures do not do justice to how disgusting this hostel was. We booked the Airbnb room which you had to go onto the roof and then up scaffolding stairs to. To be fair, the room itself wasn’t atrocious. A bit odd, a bath in the open with a double bed and a bunk bed altogether, sheets had a few stains but weren’t too bad. The rest of the place was more problematic. It’s a grotty little pub (with cheap pints albeit) with a mouldy, revolting-smelling and filthy hostel behind it. Although Jemima who checked us in was nice and helpful and it was located right in front of the cliffs of Dover, this couldn’t quite make up for the state of the whole place. Quite dodgy clientele and staff (black eyes, expensive cars transporting odd packages), sometimes felt a bit seedy, who knows what was really going on behind the scenes. At no time during our three nights was anything cleaned. The smell in the kitchen and bathrooms made me want to vomit, and were very dirty. Our allergies went crazy with the mould and deep smoke smell. Avoid at all costs for your health and well-being. ‘First and last’ time here.
