Spent the Xmas week at the Alton House. Very friendly staff and a good Boxing Day lunch in the restaurant. Plenty of parking and a short walk to the town centre. Hotel has lots of character, rooms are clean and well equipped.

Anne at the restaurant is amazing. Excellent experience cxx.

6 of us for Sunday Carvery today — excellent meal, delightful Staff and lovely surroundings. Have not been here for years but already looking forward to returning in November.

For the second year running we held our charity ball here, and for the second year running they did not disappoint! Amazing team, efficient, friendly and so helpful. Just want to say a big thank you to the whole team who helped us make last night such a success. Over £3000 raised to help people living with cancer. Thank you again to the whole team at Alton House.

Have just been for lunch to celebrate my 70th birthday. Fantastic attentive staff, attention to detail and food was excellent. Thank-you.

Nice so far. Old fashion, needs some tlc. Not the cleanest but for the price it's OK. Quite a few big cobwebs/ dust webs on the blinds. Few spiders too. Kettle is slow too. Bath and bath. Shower is in front of the above the knee hight window with no blind. Outside is the car park. Tv work and the bed work, that's all I'm worried about.

Came for a afternoon tea. It all was a little bit dry, but lovely sandwiches. Beautiful dinning room although the background music was very… eclectic. And the mirror in the ladies bathroom was not very forgiving lol.

The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when asked. Rooms are tired, especially carpet, as are the towels and the mattress protector was stained. Shampoo and body wash were provided but no conditioner or body lotion. Breakfast was good but items not replaced when empty.

My room was spacious and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great, and there's plenty of parking. Very satisfied.

Visit today was to attend the monthly lunch held by Probus. We are a group of retired business men who meet for lunch & socialising. A guest speaker gives a presentation / talk on a subject which they may have worked in, or have a special interest in. We have a 3 course meal which is always enjoyed by everyone. On a personal note, I've been there for evening meals with friends & the standard of food & service has never let me down. There's plenty of free parking & you must register your car at reception to make sure you don't get fined but doing that only takes a minute or so.

We found Alton house hotel charming with an excellent meal in a busy but not overfilled restaurant. I was surprised as I had been told the Hotel was down market. I beg to differ. On the day we visited we had free run of the hotel, it was clean and yes the layout is not the smooth path of a new hotel but this just added to the charm. Very pleased and will visit again for afternoon tea. Thank you.

Modern but still quaint, Alton House Hotel offers something for everyone. We used a function room for a family occasion and the service couldn't be faulted. Thank you Alton House Hotel.

I attended a work meeting at the hotel. Plenty of parking. Hotel was well presented. Meeting room was fine. It was a good experience and I would use them again. Cannot comment about food and rooms as was only there in the day.

Lets start with the reason I'm giving two stars is because of the friendly staff. So, where shall I begin… I got a room with two single beds for 3 nights. The bed I chose, had a mattress, which was way beyond expiry date. The mattress should have been replaced ten years ago. The room itself wasn't clean. I found a long black hair next to my pillow and a stain on the bed. The soap wasn't supplied in the bathroom, which I found out next day, when they supplied it, and the shower was broken. So, no warm water for showering. The bathroom isn't clean. The floor is curling up at the ends, and there's black dirt and behind the shower tap as well as fungus. The same black substance is also under the toilet. The next morning I mentioned the bad mattress and the broken shower at the front desk. It would be fixed. When I got back around midnight, the shower was now only max heating. The mattress wasn't replaced either, only the bed was made up. The other bed was a bit better, but also old. Asking the night manager about a shower I could have a shower in a unused room elsewhere in the hotel. Not ideal, but at least more helpful then the current similar situation. Next to my room were 2 plates with food leftovers. The hallway smelled because of the food leftovers. The next morning they were still there. And the smell too… Then there's the breakfast. I've traveled quite a lot, and the breakfast in the morning isn't worth the money.

Food good but portions tiny, while the beef was excellent, two roast potatoes and a very small Yorkshire pudding don't make for a Sunday lunch.

Classy, clean, excellent service and very welcoming. Cooked breakfast is slightly limited but the evening menu is outstanding with choices to suit everyone's taste. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Had our Wedding here. Had an amazing day. Food, Ceremony and reception was fantastic. Nick the Wedding coordinator was so helpful and worked hard. The staff that worked that day worked very hard and were a credit to the hotel. Our stay was lovely so was the breakfast. Cannot fault it in anyway.

We have been staying st this hotel regularly for a few years now. The staff are friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and convenient as possible. We always look forward to coming here to rest up at night while we are busy looking after family during the day! Happy 2018 to all the staff and thank you for your hard work.

Visited today as part of the Shopmobility 20th anniversary and there was approx 60 of us there for a 3 course Christmas meal. We cannot fault the Alton House hotel in any way. The food was stunning, well presented and delicious. The service was excellent and professional. The building is very welcoming and spacious. The staff went out of their way to engage and help with any request. In our experience when visiting different venues, Christmas dinner prepared for large groups tend to be underwhelming but certainly not in this case. We would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a similar experience.

Easy to find. Lovely decor. Staff friendly. Function rooms a good size. Buffet provided was lovely.

Went to a wedding here. Excellent staff, venue and bedrooms. Small leakage due to heavy rain.

Attended a wedding, service was excellent and staff very friendly, food was good and bar has a good selection of drinks, I did however notice that the interior of the suite the wedding was held in could probably do with a little bit of a spruce up. The location is excellent as slap bang in the middle of Alton and easy access to the town. Parking is adequate although the car park was completely full due to the wedding. I wasn't an overnight guest so cannot comment on the rooms.

I came with my sister and 2 friends for Afternoon Tea on Wednesday 18th October and I wish to record how very disappointed we were. It was her 80th birthday treat. The tea consisted of only 8 scones (not homemade) and 4 tiny squares of lemon drizzle cake! The sandwiches were terribly unimaginative, extremely small and some of which definitely tasted of ready made sandwich fillers. The fillings I would describe as sparse. My sister requested a cheese sandwich without mayonnaise or chutney this took a record 15 minutes to produce!

Disgusting white haired woman! Didn't have any respect for our privacy re booking and pre payment error. Then after travelling over 300 miles to find the room awfull. Fusty out dated stained furnished. The bed was lumpy. The bathroom was mouldy and smelt mouldy too. Photo evidence has been taken. I felt dirty when I left. Wont ever go there again. Travel Inn are so much cleaner and nicer staff.

Nice room and good service. However the drawers of the room were not cleaned, they had moldy bread and cheese in. They seemed mortified by this when notified, and quickly cleaned them. The room was also very cold. The breakfast was excellent.

We took friends for a carvery today. It was our first time so we were a little worried as you never know with a carvery, but wow It was amazing the best we have ever had I will recommend it to everyone. The meat was beautiful we can actually say it was the best bit of beef we have ever eaten! Our friends loved it! Plus the dining room looked beautiful fantastic decor! Thank you so much we will back very soon!

Dusty room. Rust buil up on roll holder. Bed runners old and need a good clean OR don't use them. Carpets not at all as in the picture. One individual on reception had attitude and needs customer service training. And data protection sense.!

Had a wedding walking distance near by and stayed for 1 night … May 2017… easy parking (just remember to register car at reception) lovely, helpful, polite staff … they went out of their way to help and deal with our requests. Newly furbished dining room, lovely breakfast. Overall value for money. We didn't have any complaints or trouble so 5 stars ✨

We had our wedding reception at the Alton House in March this year and they were amazing throughout the whole process. Through the planning process all of your needs and requests were catered to and accommodated perfectly and on the night the staff were a big party of making our night the amazing time that it was. I highly recommend them.

When I booked my room I advised the bookings clerk I was disabled not only did I have a room on the first floor (had to climb stairs as no lift) the room itself was not adapted so I could only have a sink wash I could not use the shower which was not great considering we were attending a wedding! The bar service was exceptionally slow, that being said the staff were friendly & welcoming I don't think the rooms are worth the charge as they were somewhat dated & not the cleanest for example the bed throw on our bed was covered in what looked like fluid marks… just pleased we didn't have to sleep with it next to us.

Staff went out of their way to give us a lift to Jane Austen's house when the bus failed to pick us up. They were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The rooms were lovely and the bathtubs deep! I would happily stay here again.

This hotel is mediocre. Shabby furnature. Corridors not cleaned regularly. Dirt in bathroom. Shower strength very poor… dribble. Musty stale smell. Awful coffee with breakfast. Generally feels like it needs investment.

Staff were very friendly, drinks weren't badly priced.
