A pleasant hotel with friendly helpful staff that are always willing to help. Good size car park & even though it caters for many guests it felt very peaceful despite the large number of guests staying. It does what it says on the tin.

Two words to describe my experience at the Mercure Hotel Lovely and Beautiful. The are always clean and well presented. The stuff are the best, they will go out of their way to make you welcomed and feel at home. I'm diabetic so I need my medicine to be in a fridge, so what they did is they put a fridge in my room. Can't thank them enough for this. So if you want to experience the complete hotel package, come over to the Mercure Hotel Wigan.

Rooms nice, friendly staff, good breakfast but very hot on the top floor with no aircon.

This hotel is the most I'd really expect for an inner city hotel. You can tell straight away that it wasn't designed to wow. The rooms are a good size, very clean, warm but well ventilated. The bed was very comfy and everything worked. Loved having a bath, many hotels are sticking to showers and its a shame. The staff were very polite and helpful. A bit of investment could make the site a lot more attractive.

Staff were superb, all round. A light needed replacing, a maintenance dude turned up to find someone had already done it. Rooms are comfortable but getting on a bit.

Great place to stay close to the town centre staff was helpful and polite. Breakfast was brilliant and the evening meals are nice aswell definitely worth a stay.

Good city-centre location, with free Wi-Fi and plenty of parking. Beds not great — a little too soft… and my "King Size" was actually 2 beds put together! No wardrobe for clothes, just one SMALL shelf up high to put your folded stuff. But it IS quiet and not noisy, so you'll get a decent sleep. A word of caution: the buffet breakfast isn't always available; it's only when they have at least 20 peole in hotel. So we weren't impressed this morning…

Booked a table for a Mother's day meal for 9 adults and 2 children, the table was set out lovely, the menu had plenty of choice the food we had was excellent and all the staff were very plesent and friendly. All 3 mothers fully enjoyed there day. We will be back again soon.

Hotel was inviting and the staff were fantastically attentive. Room booked was very run down and the technology wasn't up to standard to deliver a business presentation. Drinks offered were a bottle of Buxton and Squash however hotel looked pleasant throughout.

After hearing bad reports of this hotel was a bit nervous but it was lovely. From check in staff to bar staff to kitchen staff and cleaning staff the service was excellent. The food was gorgeous compliment to the chef. Will definitely stay here again.

Rooms were double booked. Half our party were sent to a different hotel. Other room was situated next to some kind of intermittently running motor that was very annoying and quite loud. Very dated and incredibly dark rooms that were not inspected before a new guest visited, broken light in our bathroom. Showering in basic darkness. Another room from our party had drawers full of tablets, medicine, sweets and rubbish. Expensive bar with limited offerings.

I was paying my wedding off. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Very accomidating and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Plenty of parking space. Close enough to the centre, but far enough away, to count as a good location. Limited bar selection at usual hotel prices. Food servery is compact but replenished quickly. Staff are friendly & make you feel very welcome. Rooms are a good size, with most standard facilities, as expected. No air-conditioning in my room, but a wall heater & window made for a comfortable stay. Lift & stairs to upper floors. Unsure of their provision of disabled rooms but it is wheelchair accessible. Room numbers may catch you out on first stay as leading digit, usually indicating floor number, is +1. (100 is on Ground floor, 200 is First floor, etc. ). Only criticism would be the lobby outside my room had a stale tabacco odour. Unsure if this is just the building age or rising air/smog from smokers corner outside. Thankfully it did not permeate into my room. All other areas I passed through were fine, well ventilated & odour free (except the restaurant of course).

I have stayed at this hotel and it was very clean and the beds are comfortable. Staff are very good and really friendly. I have had christmas dinner here for the past two years and really enjoyed it.

Definitely the worst Mercure my wife and I have ever stayed in. We booked 2 nights a week apart, going to and from a holiday. Both nights the room smelt stale, the hall outside was constantly stinking of smoke and the bathroom wasn't cleaned/tidied/restocked (toilet roll and shower gel/shampoo) properly. Asked at reception for extra milk packets for a coffee in our room and were told to ask at the bar, where we had to wait five minutess for a small milk jug, which was only about a quarter full when we did get it. Then the breakfast. The first time we were asked to order what we wanted for it to be 'cooked fresh' for us, nice touch but a shame that the only fresh thing on 2 plates were the poached eggs, which were under cooked. Skip forward a week to our return journey; we tried to remove the breakfasts from what we had booked but apparently that's not possible? So anyway having paid for breakfasts, we were determined to eat something half decent. Not much joy there, the bread for toast looked stale, and the cereal and fruit choices were meager. The hot breakfast options were worse.

Staff great friendly and helpful. Room was large and clean. Bathroom the same.

Very lovely hotel with friendly staff (excluding the cleaner lass I asked for a towel off and she told me to go ask the person doing my floor who I couldn't find). Had a very comfortable stay and should I want to stay in wigan again, this will be where I go to stay over. Food quality is a bit nasty. Especially the nachos, really really poor rating on them.

Desperately needs a refit. Pleasant staff. Comfortable beds. But definitely of its time. With very basic food on offer, a 'canteen' feel your the restaurant and dated corridors with florescent lighting. One (tiny) lift to ferry large numbers of people up and down but strangely a rectangular 'lift-shaft' sized alcove on every floor where the pair of passenger lifts SHOULD be… Could be so much better with a bit of investment from Mercure…

Good venue for a professional event, always fresh coffee available and a good lunch.

Great service. The decor is a bit out dated and rooms are bit dark. The food and drinks are good and the staff are friendly.

Had a 1 night stay here on the 26th August 2017 and found it very enjoyable. Reception staff very welcoming, room spacious, large bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, bed comfortable and area very quiet even for a Saturday night. Would certainly stay again!

Perfect balance between friendly and anonymous — felt very private but reception staff were keen to help. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable, though bathroom had a couple of maintenance issues (toilet bowl was cracked, and during my shower a bath tap fell off and hit my ankle). So in all, good, just slightly more attention to facilities needed. We didn't eat there, so can't judge the food.

Oak hotel very welcoming and friendly staff on duty. The hotel is situated in Wigan town centre and has a large car park. The hotel has is very clean and has modern facilities. Good quality restaurant and food. Would promote this hotel for meetings, seminars etc.

Lovely rooms, great location, powerful showers. Didn't go to bar so no opinion on that. Young man on reception at 3am was fantastic! Deserves a medal for putting up with us in our drunken state, nothing was too much trouble for him. Cheers mate!

Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff. The room was comfy though the bed was a wee bit soft… great service, though. Watch out for the pricey room service charge but they were more than happy to put a tray together for me to take to my room.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now, and both times have been fantastic. The room is so spacious and the bed so comfortable. On my second visit, I had made an error with my booking; I had booked a week in advance of the night I actually wanted. The receptionist on duty that evening (John), was very accommodating and managed to find us a room last minute. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying over in Wigan. For the money you pay, it is excellent.

A nice modern hotel close to the center of Wigan. Our room was looking a bit tired though and ready for a refurb (1 power socket? ). We had a very nice evening meal in town so could not comment on restaurant but the breakfast was disappointing. There was plenty of meat for a full English but little else and the tray of scrambled eggs was crusty under the lights. Overall the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the restaurant staff a bit less so. The hotel is also a fair way from the motorway which makes it less than perfect for an overnight stop but the dining options in town compensate for this.

Venue was fine for seminar purposes, service was a bit slow with refreshments, but food was fine. Venue had free parking and is easy to get to.

Nice clean rooms perfect for a not-so-pricey hotel. Only negative is there was on 1, yes 1 plug sockey. In 2016 two people have multiple gadgets in need of charging. Free Wi-Fi was great too.

Perfect location, very close to town centre, you cannot ask for more for a 3 star hotel, helpful staff and great food.

Comfortable room, excellent service, delicious breakfast, great value for money.

Recently stayed at this hotel and felt it was definately in need of a face lift. It smells old and worn especially in the bedrooms. The bed was like sleeping on a brick with a plastic mattress cover to finish it off. However it was in easy access to the centre and places to visit. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was ok but a bit over priced. Not my best experience and over priced.
