Review of Malmaison London 4*

After looking around for a special place to spend our honeymoon, and loved our stay at the one in Edinburgh we decided to pay for a £500 p/ night room for our week in London. Our previous stay in Scotland was only for around £150 p/night was a decent sized double with all the amenities we'd want. The weekend before we had just stayed in a honeymoon suite for around £500 for the whole weekend. Needless to say we were expecting great things and what better occasion to! The 1 star rating obviously shows you how disappointed we were by it. From initial entry we were greeted by a less than friendly welcome from an un-enthused reception staff. Who had wanted full payment up front. After telling them we had to wait for our wedding cheques to clear we agreed on a partial payment after saying that no communications prior had said payment up front. Only saying the opposite and that payment would be at the end of our stay. The room was far lower than our expectations and only having a bigger TV than what our previous stay showed. I understand property prices in London are at a premium but when you pay double your house cost for the month, I would expect better. Nothing special was in the room bar a few pieces of fruit. The room offered several selections of complimentary help your self half empty bottles of medium cost spirits. Unless you could stomach the £3 per can of soft drink to mix them you would have to go with neat whisky. Not a problem to me but no real other option for my new wife. I understand that "extras" are not to be expected and the service should be value enough but I always felt we were being looked down on and until we mentioned our room number we were getting shunned to every corner of the non inclusive breakfast room. So we left our honeymoon with lovely memories of our days out but an awful tarnish from our most expensive nights. So I leave you with 2 warnings. First to stay away and the second is if you do stay, to ask for a licensed black cab, Every time we ordered we were given an unlicensed taxi that always was more expensive and a lot less friendly taxi service. Also make sure the room you are staying in, is what the lovely pictures on the website show! Otherwise you can get stung like us.
