PURPOSE FOR STAY We booked for 3 night stay in order to attend a course within The Bloomsbury area. Aug 2017 AREA From the Mentone to the Bloomsbury was a good 30 min walk, but there are lots of black cabs to hail, expect to pay approx £6 per trip. Being close to Russell square u will find a Tube station n lots of places to eat n drink. The British Museum is 20 mins walk away n there are lots of cycle hire ranks in the area if u wish to venture out. PARKING We found a great car park in Bernard street. So much cheaper than anywhere else. It's only a 10 min walk from the Mentone Hotel. HOTEL FACILITIES With no lifts… it's a hell of a climb with the cases n we were only on the 2nd floor. We both agreed we wouldn't have wanted to have been on the 3rd 4th or 5th. BEDROOM We had a double rm. It was out the back, so not much of a view but it was modern, clean, tastefully decorated and a reasonable price. Sadly the Bed was horrendously hard, it was like sleeping on Bedrock. I have an expensive pocket sprung at home so it was a bit of a shock to my spine. There's a TV. Chest of drawers, 1 bedside cabinet, wardrobe, sofa and coffee table for the Kettle, tea n coffee facilities. Bring yr own biscuits! Wi-Fi Poor. It was very slow and kept dropping out. BATHROOM… It was extremely small, no bath just a shower n the toilet was in a corner so u had to sit on it sideways with yr knees touching the sink. Very Ltd soaps provided, so bring yr own. They only supply Hand Towels n a shower mat, so definitely bring yr own Towels too. PRIVACY There are no net curtains, so u are forced to shut the curtains or pull the blind which forces u to get ready in artificial lighting. So get dressed first Ladies. So you can do yr makeup in natural light. NOISE It was hot so we had the windows open wide all night. The noise outside was normal for London so it didn't bother us. However insude was another story. We had a family next door to us n they were coming n going constantly as they had another room booked above us, where their teenagers were thumping around on our ceiling most of the evening. We did complain to reception but it continued until early hrs of the morning. My guess is. It's an old hotel n therefore has very limited soundproofing. BREAKFAST The Dining room was down a set of very steep n narrow stairs, right next door to the kitchen in the basement. Definitely not suitable for the disabled or the elderly n young children. It was extremely narrow in there so get up really early n get in there quick before it fills up. Table service was available for the Full English Breakfast n if u wanted Continental, u could help yourself to pastries, cereals, yoghurts n juices on the side table. The food was cooked very nicely n the staff were very helpful n friendly. WOULD WE GO BACK If they invested in a lift, a comfortable bed, a larger bathroom, some soundproofing and offered room service… I would definitely stay again! =0)
