Our time at Thornbury castle was truly amazing. We were married there and the events director did a wonderful job preparing everything. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful. The staff was so helpful and kind. It truly is a magical place.

Wonderful experience. We stayed at the King Henry VII room and it was amazing, with windows facing the court, a beautiful four poster bed, a comfortable living-room, and heated floors in the bathroom. Now that I’ve visited during summer, I want to come back late fall!

Had a great time at Thornbury Castle who were good enough to hire my band The Walker Close Band a beautiful room to shoot some promo videos in, the staff were very helpful and the venue and grounds were inspirational — can’t wait to pop back for a proper stay! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had an amazing big birthday afternoon tea with my family. Setting is fabulous and the sun shone so we enjoyed the grounds too! Staff were very pleasant and helpful for our party of 9 plus two babies and a sausage dog! A special day indeed!

What a magnificent stay we had. From the minute we arrived every staff member made us feel special and welcome. The room was incredible and beautifully designed, the bed was so comfortable and the linens felt luxurious. We had the tasting menu for dinner which was absolute perfection. The chef is exceptional. This hotel has thought of everything you may need or want. The decor was just beautiful and made you feel transported into a magical time of elegance. The staff were professional and knowledgeable.

Had afternoon tea bought by a family member, from Buy a Gift using a code.
Food was lovely but the receptionist was very rude. I was NOT told we needed to bring the voucher (as I had already redeemed it & called to confirm the booking). When the waiter came over he quoted “I need that voucher code as the receptionist is having a meltdown about this”. Highly unprofessional and we both come from customer service backgrounds.

It is an amazing experience! We stayed in the bedroom of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn in the 1500's. We used the stairs that they used to get to the dining room and gardens. I've already recommended it! Our 12-year old granddaughter was with us and she was treated so nicely!

Stayed for 1 night for a birthday celebration for my partner, would highly recommend, the food was amazing, the service from all staff was very attentive but not intrusive the room we had was out of this world. Well our stay was absolutely breath taking! The building is historical and stunning, a Tudor lover like myselfs dream come true! Staying in the Dukes Bedchamber was so emotional, such a great experience. The food was out of this world and the staff were attentive and welcoming. I must thank Meg on reception in particular, what an asset to the castle, she clearly loves her job and was so kind in showing us around and offering her knowledge on the building, thank you so much, it was such a pleasure to meet you! We can't wait to return xx.

Firstly I would like to thank the friendly and welcoming staff, who went out of their way to make our experience one to remember.
Thornbury Castle is beyond words! But I’ll try. It’s such a unique experience, the authentic feel is like no other hotel. Everything about our stay was perfect!
We stopped in the Plantagenet Room, which we had requested, and it did not disappoint.
The food in the restaurant was out of this world, and they were very accommodating when it came to me being gluten free.
Nothing seemed to much trouble, the staff were always in high spirits and encouraged us to make the most of our time there.
It was surprisingly quiet, and we only really saw other guests at dinner and breakfast, which was lovely as we felt like we had the place to ourselves.
Our stay really was a dream come true!

Continuous rest, some lasy walks around the grounds, eating delicious foods and sitting by the fire places (they have them everywhere ☺️) … Lovely friendly staff… so we're both feeling at home in this peaceful place ☺️… Not to mention that most people only book for a night or two so we're now feeling part of the family here, all fully relaxed including the resident castle cat

Such a lovely cosy and friendly place to stay. Loved relaxing in the sitting rooms in the large armchairs with the roaring fire. Nice coffees, but the best part about it all is they have a resident cat that strolls around called Matilda. Perfect place to stay.

Wanted to visit Thornbury Castle since a young girl and it did not disappoint. Arrived before arrival check in time yet was still encouraged to walk around the castle grounds to take in the grandeur. Historically it is beautiful and well kempt. The gardens are stunning & photogenic. Our suite was amazing, the decor timeless, free standing bath with double shower. The Tudor feel was endless. Not only romantic but a wonderful experience was had. Compliments to the staff who are always on hand to assist. 5 * service.

Mind blowing venue, makes you feel very regal! The lady on front desk is lovely, very helpful and accommodating! The food is beautiful and well priced. The breakfast buffet has a large selection of fruits, pastries; jams etc. As well as delicious cooked to order meals. The room we stayed in was beautiful and the views from our window were lovely. TOP TIP: check out the library, impressive collection of old books :)

My family and I stayed in this hotel on August 9, 2018. We stayed in the Henry Suite. The room was very large, very unique and impressive. The staff at this hotel were all very accommodating and very nice to us. The food was awesome and the property was amazing. We were especially happy with the hostess "Holly" who showed us to our room and took care of re-scheduling our dinner reservation as we were traveling and arriving later than expected. Holly went above and beyond customer service and it was very much appreciated. We would definately recommend staying at this hotel. It was an amazing experience.

Excellent hotel in a historic castle. The room we stayed in was extremely comfortable and well equipped. Dinner was to die for. The staff are very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Would love to return.

Can’t fault the place. Great history — we stayed in the Dukes Bedchamber where Henry VIII slept with Anne Boleyn for ten nights. Everything was perfect — reception — dinner — drinks — breakfast. All staff very attentive. Room well equipped with en-suite bathroom and separate lavatory. A very enjoyable stay.

Mixed. Lovely surroundings and old building. Friendly and attentive staff. Just that the food didn’t match; being pretty bland and basic. Imagine nicely cooked trout but with boiled vegetables; or a breakfast where granola is left over bits they found in a cereal packet served with berries from the freezer. So definitely do stay, but bring a packed lunch.

Request a specific room otherwise might be disappointed like us, but amazing setting, great service. Sadly for the price, food was disappointing. Lacked flavour and seasoning. Guessing the Head chef had our night off. Didn't live up to the hype for us but we are the exception. Has loads of fabulous reviews. Think we were probably unlucky.

Wow what a place, me and my fiancée loved every minute. The grounds and castle itself are amazing and still very traditional. We stayed in the audley room very nice rooms beds are comfy, free bottled water etc with mini fridge and kettle etc. Had the a la carte dining on Saturday evening was amazing all 3 courses with free canapés before the meal in the lounge. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff couldn’t do enough for you (especially Tiago) he was great. Cheese cart was unreal with a large selection of French and British cheeses to choose from along with a great selection of wines. Breakfast was also great with good selection and a very good full English breakfast with top quality produce. Would definatley recommend to anyone!

The castle is a really lovely place to visit and the staff are very helpful. The gardens are lovely to walk around and it's a treat to visit. Really glad it's on my doorstep!

A beautiful castle set in immaculately kept grounds. A fantastic place for a wedding with excellent rooms, service and food. Can’t recommend this enough.

Lovely gardens, unfortunately we didn't get to explore the castle/hotel due to being told that children under 8 years of age are not allowed inside the premises, the staff did let my 6 year old use the bathroom so that was about all we got to see if the internal setting.

Thornbury Castle is just amazing. We arrived and were extremely well looked after. Our room was The Bedford which was entered via a tower staircase. The room was amazing with a very comfortable four poster bed and huge fireplace. Classical music was playing on the TV which added to the ambience. The bathroom was spotless and huge. I awoke early to the sound of the birds dawn chorus which was magical. The restaurant food was delicious at dinner and again at breakfast. The staff were all amazing so helpful and attentive. I would highly recommend a stay at this beautiful castle.

Held my niece's babyshower at Thornbry Castle this weekend and it was amazing. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, a very special "thank you" to Bonnie who looked after us all and our many requests! The food was delicious and plenty of it. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

Lovely hotel which is full of history. Rooms are large and clean. Staff were all really polite, helpful and attentive. The meals were great. Lots of choice at breakfast. The restaurant is also great for an evening meal. Nice grounds to walk around with a little walled garden. Hotel is close to the village. There is a longer walk which you can join straight from the hotel grounds.

I felt I was being transported back in time. Beautiful hotel and steeped in history with both Mary Tudor and Henry the eighth and Anne Boleyn staying there in the past. The hotel upgraded us so we slept in a four poster bed for the first time. Food great as was service. Fully.

I took my fiancee here for her birthday and this place is perfect for a nice romantic weekend. The staff are amazing and couldn't do enough. My partner especially liked the birthday card waiting for her. As with these places it's the small things that count. The room was as near to authentic as it possibly could be then there is a luxurious bathroom to relax in. Both a plus on my part. So if you want more than amazing staff and a beautiful location the food is another level. The food was exquisite and the waiting staff are more than happy to help. The food was as good as any I have had that includes popular Michelin starred TV chefs. You can tell the waiters have master their art in the business over a long time. So to cut a long story short if you are wanting to spoil your partner or just have a relaxing stay away I would certainly recommend this place.

Had such an amazing experience at Thornbury Castle. A one-night stay, and to experience the history is awesome. I hung my cot last night in a 309-year-old wardrobe. It's just stunning. Highly recommended, with outstanding service. Breakfast was made beautifully and the buffet options we plentiful. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

This is definitely a royal castle. A beautifully decorated building exquisite fine dining experience. A special treat venue for special occasions.

Lovely place. Nice room. Attentive staff. Lots of history. Food was not as good as I would have expected. Stayed in their midweek celebration package which made it more worthwhile.

Great night, food was excellent they even remembered it was my girlfriends birthday and brought out a surprise cake without me asking. Only reason I'm giving a 4 is that the mattress in our room was very soft as a result we both had a shocking nights attempted sleep. Sadly however much I want to go back we cannot get past this issue. Firm mattresses please and we will be there again :)

HORRENDOUS! While the outside of the place is lovely and quaint, the service and interior is completely amateur. Broken toilets, old tired rooms, and the staff are incredibly unhelpful and verging on rude. Food is really bad too.

Mini-moon — kindly upgraded to a suite. Lovely building, grounds and restaurant — OK "! First world problem alert! " — they had run out of Venison! but the partridge was amazing :-). Four poster bad was awesome and the staff were all great.

At Thornbury Castle the staff truly strive to make you feel like royalty. We stayed in the castle for two nights and the experience was unforgettable! From the afternoon tea served in the library to simply exploring the castle grounds, everything was extremely enjoyable. The staff in particular was very friendly and helpful. Stefan and Pedro were our servers for dinner and made us feel right at home here! My wife and I also renewed our wedding vows here and the grounds were absolutely stunning for our pictures!

The dinner here is amazing (all foods) and the atmosphere is very relaxing! They old style of the rooms gives a great experience and a range of activities are available (old English styles) like archery and croquet.

After getting married at Thornbury Castle two years ago (which was incredible! ), we returned for our wedding anniversary yesterday. We stayed in the Henry Viii suite, which is huge and opulent, with an amazing 4 poster bed, walk in wardrobe and jacuzzi bath. There was even an anniversary card waiting for us, along with a special complimentary pudding with dinner, adorned with the words 'Happy Anniversary'. Such a special experience! Our meal last night was delicious, as was the afternoon tea we decided on today. The staff are so attentive and friendly here — they really do go the extra mile to make your stay special. I cannot recommend Thornbury Castle highly enough — we will definitely be back again! Thank you for making our stay so memorable! Lizzie & Frank Armstrong.

Wow. Seriously. WOW! I was so impressed and happy with our stay at Thornbury Castle Hotel, I just am nearly speechless. We specifically requested the Plantaganet room, and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. Natural stone walls, hanging tapestries, big (working: gas) fireplace, spacious bathroom, and a luxurious 4-posted canopy bed. It truly was a wonderful hotel room. Check in was seamless and easy, and our host not only helped us with our bags (up the winding stone staircase) but he happily pointed out all the room amenities. The room was nice and quiet. But I suppose that is expected when the walls appeared to be two-plus feet thick (approaching 3? ) and solid stone. It's hard to find a downside, but one must remember that it's an old building. For those who must hear a 'negative', I offer this: Our back window by the fireplace looked over the car park and when early-risers started their day, their car engines starting and driving over the gravel woke me up from a sound sleep. No big deal. Breakfast was very nicely done. My food was hot and delicious, and my daughter's waffle was scrumptious. The brewed coffee was very nice, as well. We did not eat dinner at the Castle, although I have heard that the menu is tremendous. As a wonderful destination for a romantic weekend away, or a surprise for a child who gets to sleep in a real castle, the Thornbury Castle Hotel is, in my opinion, in a class of its own. Go there. You will not be disappointed.

This is an excellent and individual hotel set in very historic and atmospheric buildings that have seen all sorts of guests over the centuries (including Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn! ) service is very good and they have some real grand rooms and suites of which we've enjoyed several. We didn't stay on this occasion, but popped in for an afternoon tea which was delicious!

The surroundings are amazing, peaceful. Rooms are wonderful also you feel immersed in the history. How many people can say they have stayed where Henry Vlll and Anne Boleyn has been. They stayed 10 days, I could only afford two.

Great place with excellent food staff very friendly and helpful grounds are beautiful. Food is excellent. Bar is very expensive but if your staying here then that should not be a problem! The rooms are cosy four poster beds and decor is of the old period style but very honely and haunted! In all a great place for weddings meetings etc. Overall 5 star.

Made us feel very sad. It is our one year wedding anniversary today. As a wedding gift we were bought an afternoon tea voucher at Thornbury Castle. We booked and were looking forward to this as an anniversary treat. However. Our voucher is 3 weeks out of date and Thornbury Castle are absolutely unwilling to show any compassion. I know the T&Cs say 1 year… we hadn't realised this till today… but all the same. This is just very sad for us, and sad for our friends who spent £50 on the voucher, which is now wasted.

Thornbury Castle Hotel was great. We had the afternoon tea with champagne, and it was on point. The location and ambiance was lovely, the sandwiches, cakes and scones were delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

An absolutely amazing hotel, great service, rooms are spectacular, dinner was great, but with all good chefs, leave you wanting larger portions. Had a tour in the morning from the lovely Valerie who knew loads about the castle, and informed us how we were literally following in the footsteps of Kings, a great end to our visit!

Great room shame about the restaurant! Me and my husband stayed here and had the tasting menu. I told the waiter when ordering the tasting menu that I had a nut allergy yet this wasn't taken into consideration. I had to return one dish and had to leave a desert out as it contained nuts. I told the head waiter this and got no apology! We was then charged for an orange juice and extra beer we didn't have. I had to find a waiter to deduct this as we hadn't had them. On arrival bk into London and checking the bill there was an extra £16 on our bill. I called to question this and was informed it was for a cocktail we'd had after dinner. We went to bed after dinner so this is somewhat concerning someone had signed it to our room! A big note to check your bill at all times as some obvious negative activity happening at this place & doesn't make you want to revisit.

Very good food, service during lunch was a bit slow but overall a great afternoon.

If you are looking to score the jackpot with brownie points take your lady here. The setting and the whole energy of the place is very special. It's steeped in history. The food is amazing and the attention to every detail is outstanding. We will be back to visit very soon.

Stayed in the amazing Howard room, as I requested! We had a fantastic night, the service was superb and the experience was great! A tad more clarity on the room upgrades before booking would be great but after auch a night I left a very happy man.

Staying here was one of the highlights of our family's trip to Europe in July! It is a beautiful, authentic castle. Very charming! Wonderful landscaping! Terrific staff! We spent two hours exploring the surrounding flower gardens and ruins the next morning. Our children, ages 13, 16, and 22 thought it was great too.

Surprised my wife with a stay in the Duke's Bedchamber during our trip to the 2012 Summer Olympics. Champagne on ice ready, along with some chocolate truffles. The grounds were beautiful, we visited in mid August, as was the rest of the castle. Felt like royalty, well worth the price (which was considerable). Staff was most accommodating, helpful and kind. Would definitely stay again.

It's a Von Essen Hotel so my expectations were high. Mrs Penguin was exited at the prospect of staying in a Tudor castle. The hotel did not disappoint. Valet parking. Luggage straight to the room. Well appointed room, very comfortable bed. Drinks provided quickly and well prepared. Champagne and canapes in the rose garden Not quite Michelin food but certainly "excellent" Beautiful surroundings and very professional staff. Only slight point: Parts of the hotel are a bit in need of decoration.
