Had a table booked for 2pm today, arrived 5 mins early and ordered drinks. Our food ordered was taken at 2.10, main meals only. We left at 2.50-no food had arrived, no explanation and nobody came to see if we wanted more drinks. When we told the waitress we were leaving she just said “ok then”. Not really what you would expect from such a pub!

My husband and I ate here mid week in February, very quiet as storm Dennis was in process but we were made to feel very welcome. Our meals were excellent, my husband had the haddock and I the lamb. Both were delicious. For dessert we had white chocolate and ginger cheesecake which was heavenly and Banana sticky toffee pudding with peanut caramel sauce — all I can say is Mmmmmmm. Beautiful pub in quaint village, I imagine it gets very busy in Summer.

Advertised for lunch till 3 pm but only had sandwiches and chips available, very abrupt and unwelcome barman. Put a dampener on an otherwise magical place to visit.

A lovely establishment in a beautiful village. Only stayed the 1 night. The rooms were lovely, quite quirkily laid out due to the age of the building. The bed was really comfortable, and ensuite was great. Breakfast was lovely and filling. Would have loved to stay longer but the real world beckoned : (Hopefully will be back.

Stayed 2 nights for a wedding. Lovely pub set in a quintessentially British Village. Room was small but comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Had an evening meal which was good but a bit pricey. Staff were great throughout. Would recommend.

Beautiful hotel with great charm set in a stunning village… all elevated with great scones with copious amounts of cream.

We ordered the the sharing Ploughman’s lunch. What we got was: 1 slice of thin ham, 1 dry pork pie (cut in 1/2), 4 slices of Cheddar, 3 pieces of bread with 1 small rock hard butter so couldn’t butter the already falling apart bread, 4 pickled onions, 4 thin sticks of celery, a few various salad leafs and lastly, biggest portion of chutney. If any member of the serving staff would have asked if everything was ok I would have told them that at £12.00 it was the most over priced meal I’ve ever eaten. Bar staff were friendly but the serving on staff couldn’t even raise a smile. They also had a large number of flys. I have given the 3 stars for the location.

Staff opened the garden gate so we could access pub garden with buggy as it's an old building with steps and stairs and fairly narrow access inside. A high chair was provided for us. Staff also assisted us to move indoors when wasps and heat in garden became too much. Another staff member fetched some more butter when we requested it. All were polite and accommodating, though it would have been nice if they could have been a little warmer in approach. Only one staff member of the 5 we spoke to cracked a smile at us. We ordered 2 sharing platters (one each for my husband and I) plus extra bread. We were glad we did this because we found each sharing platter too small to consider sharing as a main course — we were glad to have one each. The ingredients were all good quality and clearly home-made (bread, chutney etc). We were disappointed the meat platter did not have sliced egg on it, as promised on the menu. My husband enjoyed his Somerset ale a lot. All in all a good visit to Castle Combe, a stunning village, and a good meal.

We visited here for one drink. Great place. The wine we ordered was incredible. Would defiantly visit again.

Famous Pie dry tasteless and when requesting gravy was told 'if you want gravy you'll have to pay extra for it'. I rarely provide reports and normally praising but had to register this. 20 discerning people left very disappointed. There are other pubs and restaurants near bye so my advise is to use them.

They are a bunch of crooks. I went there twice last year over the summer (once with immediate family and the other time with friends from the US) and both times they added extra items to my bill (that I did not order) to try and get me to pay more. The first time it happened I was suspicious, but put it down to being a mistake — and I asked for a refund. However the 2nd time they did it (on my second visit) it became clearly obvious that they are out to take money from people. To make matters worse, even though I have a refund receipt no money has ever been returned to my account on either occasion. I've still kept my receipts. Definitely avoid this place!

Disappointed. I was looking forward to going back to Castle Combe for 12 years, but made the mistake of staying at the Castle Inn. Last time I felt this unwelcome was in a government-run resort in Africa… They don’t have a reception area, so we had to check in at the bar, and the bartender was busy pouring drinks and taking food orders so we kind of felt in the way. I’m sure he is a nice person, but he doesn’t seem to want to be bothered by guests checking in etc. He has enough to do at the bar and in the restaurant. We were told that we have to wait until 3 o’clock before our room will be ready (we were there at 11 in the morning) If they were fully booked, I would have understood since check-in time is only at 3 o’clock. BUT they have 12 rooms and we only ever saw 2 other people staying in the hotel, so they could have just given us another room. Plus, our room was extremely noisy — we couldn’t take an afternoon nap or sleep late in the mornings because of the noise. I really recommend that they get a receptionist — someone that can welcome the guests and make them feel welcome during their stay. No one said goodbye to us, we left the key on the bar counter and left. It feels like all the focus is on the Manor House and the Castle Inn is just something running in the background. I’m amazed at all the good reviews they have…

I popped in here for a quick lunch whilst visiting the village. The prices are fairly high, £7 for a sandwich, but the food was ok. I particularly liked the vegetable crisps that came with it. The bar area is fairly traditional with good views of the village and market place. The art on the walls is a mix of modern and retro. The Castle Coombe race track posters are great. The Inn also offers accommodation. I found the barman was helpful, and friendly.

One of my favourite pubs in the most beautiful setting imaginable. The food is excellent and served quickly. The staff are friendly and accommodating without being over bearing. Nice vibe for families but also jus a quiet drink with mates. All round winner.

Gorgeous place in a breathtaking location. Food was delicious and served promptly — cooked to my taste — but the best aspect was the manager (I hope), Danielle; she made us feel like at home from the very moment when we put our feet in there. She was extremely lovely and helpful and gave us interesting chat. Definitely an asset that the company cannot lose.

Gorgeous quirky stunning atmospheric! Beautiful old pub with restaurant and rooms. Traditional good old fashioned service, charming polite staff. The rooms were lovely, gorgeous toiletries in the bathroom. Everything spotless. The village is outstanding. Just picture perfect chocolate box scenery everywhere you look. Faultless.

Excellent food in a cosy pub. On a cold rainy night it's great to sit by the roaring fireplace early hearty well made food. The whole experience is added to by the friendliness of the staff.

Really lovely place and excellent food — once you get it. Unfortunately we had to wait ages and I had to chase up the table being cleared — we also go the wrong food at one point. However, I have given it four stars due to fabulous atmosphere and really friendly staff who are clearly run off their feet at busy periods and trying hard to please the customers.

Just poor service which is such a shame when everything else is so lovely. The setting, the general ambience is relaxing and elegant but despite a seemingly quiet lunchtime service we had to ask for drinks to be served after a long wait, ask to order our food, had to chase around to find someone to request the bill and then queue to pay. As one of my party has just messaged ' I don't think I'll be in a hurry to return'. It's a local for me which makes this all the more disappointing.

A very carefully decorated and tastefully furnished place. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It is worth to go and have a coffee or anything else.

Stopped in here for a lunchtime drink on boxing day. Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Good drinks and snacks with a real log fire. Popular place for lunch and was busy by 12. Overall a great place to eat and drink.

We were a large group for a family members birthday and the experience was shocking. So the rabbit terrine starter had bones in, the roast beef was massively over cooked and very dry, then the lemon tart desert pastry was completely raw with the tart cream split. When these individual things mentioned to the staff absolutely zero sincerity or apologies, no offers to amend. The waiting staff were rude and showed no attention to detail, didn’t once ask anyone “how is your meal” “would you like any drinks” etc. Now it’s a real shame as I’ve been here before when there was a different manager in place, and the experience was fantastic, but this time round with the new manager in place, it was horrendous. And the worst thing was there was a chef sat next to me who agreed on every aspect of what was said and sent his food back also, which says a lot. Poor performance for such a well renowned eatery, won’t go back any time soon.

Great service, great food, beautiful location. We were staying in room 7 and the mattress was shockingly bad! Cheap thin and worn out, when I mentioned this in the morning of checkout we were discounted a measly amount of £15 which I don't think reflects the terrible night we had not being able to sleep. That aside, the breakfast was faultless (aside from a dirty milk jug given to me with my coffee), the dinner was delicious. Bar staff were friendly and helpful. The mix of tradition and contemporary decoration create a very homely environment. I would stay again but I would check the bed isn't knackered first!

On arrival we were immediately impressed with the staff service which excellent the rooms were very comfortable and spotless and an en suite to die for. The food in the evening was first class along with a great breakfast. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay again.

Food is amazing and drinks are even better. I can highly recommend the triple cooked chips and the local cider. Staff are very friendly and it's perfect for a spot of lunch.

Classic English Village, nice but no big deal!

Rude staff members, especially the woman who I assume was the manage who rushed us to order even though we had just sat down, and just huffed and sighed at everything. Food took ages to come was informed my soup would be straight out and had to wait another 10 minutes, but before it came out my main arrive. I was red up of waiting, so began eating the main when the soup arrived and they tried to take the main course back. I told them I was fine to have both on the table and got a rude response. Dessert were ordered, and again took ages to come. Seriously how long does it take to make an Eton Mess? Not nearly 15 minutes! The restaurant is trying to be something it is not, and can not be, I would expect a lot better service, especially considering the price that they are charging you. avoid!

We went to the restaurant on 9th July 2017. We had the Sunday roast featuring roast beef (no seasoning), Yorkshire pudding (burnt), cauliflower (tasted of metal), honey glazed parsnip (somehow did not make it onto the plate), with a teaspoon of gravy. All for £35. Terrible service. Daylight robbery… somehow they were fully booked, I guess they have no competition and new tourists go there everyday… what an embarrassment.

Service was a little long, but the food was absolutely fantastic. Best meat pie ever! The place looks really great too.

The nicest place I have ever had the good fortune to stay! Our room was out of this world (we had #4) the bed and bedding were divine, the bath luxurious and the staff were very friendly … absolutely LOVED everything and would recommend highly :)

My wife and I stayed for two nights. Fantastic location but you certainly pay for it. £145 per night, bed and breakfast, for a very small room up in the roof space (room 9). Really steep stairs to reach it and then enter through a tiny door. I felt like a Hobbit. Low beams in the room but fortunately I only cracked my head once. A small double bed which was not very comfortable. We ate there both nights but again it was expensive for average food. The wine prices were astronomical, £9.35 for a 250ml glass of house Sauvignon Blanc and ££8 for a 175ml glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. On the bright side we had a wonderful waitress, Sophie, who really looked after us well.

So much history surrounding the area. The village itself has appeared in numerous movies and films. Very nice place to come and have a bite to eat and a drink. Highly recommended.

Awful Stay. The Castle Inns owners certainly like costumers recognise their status which make for a very uncomfortable visit. Very expensive food & drink. If you plan to visit Castle Combe please take my advise and eat at the White Heart. Top Tip. Try not to stay in room 6. The neighbours have a large dog that barks if you have your room window open. We where treated to the owner of the dog telling us to be quiet and close the window, this was at 14.30 on a Monday afternoon. The only noise coming from our room was the TV. Because we did not oblige my family was then subjected to the Lady's son displaying martial arts with 2 large knifes. At the end of the display which lasted for at least 1 Min the Son starred menacingly up at our window. Fortunately my son managed to catch the whole episode on video. We complained to the Owners who moved us to another room. I will never return to this hotel and have posted the video to YouTube for others to make up their minds. I'm sure the Castle Inn Management will reply with some put you down comment as they have done with other bad reviews on Tripadvisor.

Found this hotel after bath being fully booked for a weekend away. I found it had everything we needed. We had champagne on ice delivered to the room for arrival, the wine is expensive compered to other drinks. We eat in the restaurant and had the homemade lamb pie which was out of this world. Rooms are clean and the Wi-Fi was brilliant. As soon as you drop into the village the phone signal dies so Wi-Fi was very handy to contact the in laws who had the kids. We have a nice glass of port in the room when we come back on Saturday. Overall 5 stars, there's also a pub next door with cheaper ale and the village is perfect. Ideal for a romantic weekend.

Having read the reviews I was very excited to take my partner to the Castle Inn Hotel. As promised, the village is beautiful and the room was well presented and comfortable. However, I was very disappointed by both the dinner and breakfast meals provided. The dinner menu perhaps overstretched itself but ended up being badly prepared and used low quality ingredients. When I discovered at breakfast (overcooked fish and low quality yoghurt) that the eggs used were from battery hens I was quite shocked. No hotel/restaurant which claims quality should use such poor (and unethically sourced) ingredients. Next time I would take the financial hit and go to the Manor House Hotel next door, which is apparently much better.

Great food and warm welcome. Only problem was no parking. We had to park on double yellow lines.

We stayed here one night to attend a wedding across the road. The staff were lovely and very helpful, the room was spacious and clean. There are beautiful exposed beams and old fireplaces everywhere. We had lunch in the pub, which was good food and reasonably priced, and there was a impressive breakfast menu. We were wuickly served at both and had no complaints with the food. Well worth a stay/visit.

Took a family from Singapore here for lunch during a day-tour when stopping was limited by the weather. Not normally here at lunchtime so this was a first visit though had passed many times. Greeting was professional and within seconds a table was being laid for us right by the log fire. Drinks (including good choice of beers) arrived very quickly and excellent food also arrived promptly — — and no qualms about an extra plate so one meal could be shared. A really memorable experience for all the right reasons — would not hesitate to recommend.
