This lovely old hotel needs some TLC & a thorough clean in the reception areas & WCs.
Charging £10 per person for a shop bought scone, jam & cream & cup of tea is just a rip off.

Fabulous food, lovely wine and helpful and friendly staff.

Headboard on bed was filthy, furniture broken, handles on drawers missing, didn't use shower as shower head was green, stains on carpets. Looked as if room hadn't had a good clean for months. Avoid this hotel like the plague, very expensive to get shite. Only thing that was good was breakfast. Told staff on reception what we thought, no apology, guess they must be used to it.

The female manager that was looking after out wedding party was not very friendly and it was pretty clear that the staff didn't appreciate her leadership. The room was ok, but not £100 ok. It felt like they were understaffed and a little overwhelmed.

Very understanding and helpful. Excellent atmosphere. Service was superb.

The room was tidy and quaint. The TV woukdnt turn off from the remote but this wasn't a big issue. Parking is limited and costs £10 a night. Very close to local shops and cafes.

Doesn’t even deserve a star. Apauling service from restaurant/ bar staff. Came for a few drink after Henley regatta as wanted to go somewhere a bit nicer that the pubs, service was awful. Then after being told we couldn’t sit in the outside area (only nice place you could sit) after buying the over priced drinks I was appalled by the rude waitress telling us it’s a private area and almost pushing our group of friend out the way. Surely on a regatta week renting out the patio is a ridiculous thing to do? Absolutely shocking the way were treated and the foreign lady in the restaurant was so rude we left without finishing our drinks, wish we never set foot in the door to be honest. Massive same as have stayed before but awful service from the miserable old foreign lady, shame I didn’t get her name because she is a discrase to the hotels reputation. Will not be returning and nether will our friends.

Visited during Henley Regatta week. Called in for a quick gin & tonics. The place is very quaint, I. E. Squeaky floorboards. Reception and bar staff seemed unfriendly but if your willing to pay over the top it was an escape from a very busy & crowded outdoor scene. I would revisit, but not go out of the way and rush to get back there.

The location is excellent, right on the river at Henley. The building is historic but just feels a little tired, it is clean but just a little shabby. The shared areas were all clean, the bar had a lovely pint of Bombardier and was all good. The room itself was a good size with a comfortable bed but the heating was on high with no obvious control, TV remote had dead batteries and the bathroom while large in size felt cramped with a small bath and shower arrangement. Rearranging the bathroom could easily give a bath and a separate shower but the water pressure would struggle as it was barely a trickle. That and £10 per night parking seems excessive to me when the room wasn't exactly cheap. Breakfast was pleasant but nothing special or memorable. Had been highly recommended so was a little disappointed.

Room was spacious and bathroom was a decent size. Fittings were a bit 'worn' and some TLC needed (e. G. Spotlight needed replacing, sink tap needed tightening). Room was nice and warm and road noise wasn't too bad.

Staff polite and welcoming, very good service, delightful afternoon tea — a good place to come and relax. The treatment rooms are also excellent.

Sleeping there for work reasons 2 nights, never will come back again, and here are some reasons:
— Powercut during 3 hours from 19:30 to 22:30 messed up the organization of the next day. They said that all town had no light, but it was only the Hotel because I came looking around. No emergency lights in rooms and some corridors, only my mobile phone light.
— Room is old and left away. Carpet really dirty and old. Details in the room are old and left over, not cute old. Big spider web in the ceiling over the bed. Light of the shower red, could not see anything inside.
— Asked for a beer to kill time during the powercut and they bill it, not a single detail after all the mess they had.
— Came late, at 23:00, no one at the reception and had to wait long until I could enter.
— No one at 7:00 in the reception when I had to leave.
— Recepcionist (old lady) really mean, not nice.
Really expensive for what it offers.

One star for the nice view on river Thames, one for the historic room, don't go bere in winter time if you like comfortable temperature.

For such an old hotel the rooms are fine. I like the old decor but carpet a bit worned out and bath tiles can do with some cilit bang grime and mold cleaner. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is a total let down though. All in all I would stay here again.

This place is beautiful the town is beautiful, it makes you kinda fall back in love with England for a brief moment. Set right next to the river Thames, amongst other obviously listed buildings showing of their originality. The rooms are what you’d expect old but very clean with modern features. Weatherspoons a stones throw away a posh one where all walks of life can enjoy a cheap meal. The only fault was breakfast. Tea is served you can’t make your own. It was awful. My brother asked for egg on toast but please butter his toast, the young European waitress had no idea what he was on about so he made his own and when the eggs came his eggs on toast was not buttered. Eggs Benedict was good. The entrance to the the breakfast room is a standard door size and both girl and boy are stood on either side of the inside of the frame facing each other like soldiers outside Buckingham Palace. It’s so weird walking between them both staring at each other saying good morning. The girl was polite and made an effort the young boy not so good. So over all an Amazing setting massive potential. An English town that still feels and looks like England which is rare down south. Parking at rear around the one way system £10. I would however recommend.

We ate at the bar, and the food was good old fashioned pub grub. No complaints because of the overall experience and service being fine. But this isn't the eighties and it's in Henley upon Thames.

Visited the restaurant for boxing day lunch. Delicious food and great service. We had a range of dishes from the menu and all were excellent. The staff were able to adapt the menu for a special diet. Lovely quiet spot for lunch right beside the river.

Needs a lot of time and money spent on it to get it to a good hotel.

We were able to take our dog. Very few places around Henley where we could take her. The room we had needed a little loving and the water needed to be hotter but the staff were friendly and the main building was good and I can forgive most things as I had woofy with me.

The rooms are old and not very warm. Parking is difficult and scarce. All things considered, a bit over-priced if you ask me…

Met to do a wedding viewing, lovely place right near the river. Beautiful building inside and out — make sure to ask about parking before staying!

Nice location. A pleasant slightly old fashioned hotel. Car park easy to miss and they charge for parking.

The room I had was quite small but nicely furnished with a bath and a shower. Was clean and tidy.

Service was ok. Rooms were clean but hotel needs a complete renovation. Poor value for money.

Staff didn't know any English had to repeat yourself 4 time over to get through to anyone, poor food and service. Room was nice though.

Friendly staff, but sadly the Afternoon tea did not live up to our expectations, sandwiches great and nice fresh bread, cakes rather dry and the scones were rock hard and slightly burnt. Tea/Coffee luke warm. We had a wonderful time as friends do when out together but sadly the food was a let down especially for the amount of money we spent. Also we were the only people there so no atmosphere.

There was no one at reception to let my parents in at 1am, so they had to bang on the door for almost an hour. The receptionist eventually came out, didn't apologise, and said he was busy doing other jobs… shame as otherwise a nice enough place.

Just came for a brief visit, very welcoming style and entrance, really nice look to the place and a comforting interior. Would definitely consider coming back for a proper stay.

Beautiful building, deceptively spacious, easy on-site parking, pleasant staff. Option to sit outside or in. The cream tea with bubbly: decent quality Prosecco, nice tea, sandwiches light and fresh, if slightly unimaginative. Absolutely scrumptious fruit scones, warm and crisp outside, light inside, plenty of jam and clotted cream. Good value for the Groupon price but wouldn't want to pay the normal price of £30 ph. A good venue for a wedding reception or other party.

A fantastic hotel for a splendid afternoon tea, with a fantastic array of sandwiches and delicious mouth watering cakes with a glass of champagne and tea or coffee to finish.

Not overly impressed with the food or drink offerings.

Stunning view of the river, lovely old hotel. Room could benefit from a little TLC, and limited parking, but would definitely stay again.

Really disappointed with this hotel. We stayed on March 25th 2017. Breakfast choice was poor and Lukewarm. There was a function happening with a disco, loud music till the early hours of the morning, it was impossible to sleep before 2am. Had to use the light from our mobile phone to find the keyhole to unlock our door as the corridor lights were not working. We stayed with other friends and family occupying 5 rooms. All of us have complained about the poor standard experienced. I wrote to the hotel 4 days ago and they cannot be bothered to reply to my complaint. My advice stay away certainly not worth £135 per night find another hotel.

Lovely venue with great furnishings but service was really below standard. For afternoon tea I had to go to reception and wait until I could "catch" someone (no one was ever on reception). When the waiter asked if we'd like tea or coffee we asked for a menu of the tea's and he said there wasn't one! When I asked for fresh mint he seemed to think this request was quite difficult to deliver on. I'd imagine The Red Lion management is trying to cut costs by utilising cheap non-experienced staff from abroad which doesn't suit the image the hotel attempts to exude.

Went for a massage at the treatment rooms of the Red Lion, very good.

I felt like I was staying at my British great grand mother. Lovely.

Despite making arrangements to park my car. I had to stop outside the hotel and get them to open the gate, even then I was informed that parking was on a first come first served basis and I had to take my chances. The bed was uncomfortable. Returned to the hotel after midnight — the bar was closed and a pile of dirty plates and glasses were piled up on it. The staff at the hotel largely were clueless and no proper training seems to have been given. The breakfast was equivalent to that provided by a rather seedy 2 star hotel. The coffee was stewed and you had to make your own toast. As you can gather I will not be back.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would like to return back, Room 209 was lovely room, all the staff were very helpful, but need some training at Bar. Overall experience of the hotel is very good.

This hotel looks great from the street and reception but the rooms are very poor. Having booked over six months in advance we we hoping for something special but were allocated a tiny closet loft conversion. On entering the room we were very supprised to see a bath in the middle of the very small room space. The room was too small to walk around the bed and you could not even open the closet doors as the side table blocked the doors. We were unable to unpack and left the next day. Out side the windows were a ladder against the wall and piles of builing rubbish. I reported these things to the reception on checkout and they made excuses rather than saying they would resolve any issues for the next guests. Very disappointing and this is also an expensive hotel. See the attached pictures.

The Hotel is great, but didn't used all the facilities.

The hotel had excellent service, would definitely stay again.

I enjoyed the decor and ambience of this hotel. The coffee was lovely and staff were prompt and attentive.

5 of us went for Sunday lunch, at £13 for starters and mains it sounded too good to be true and it was. The waiter was inattentive, we were put in the car park and the starters were so small a sneeze could have blown them off the plate! They were more suited to an awful Weatherspoons pub, not a Henley Hotel! We wanted the waiter's assurance that the Beef would still be rare and the Lamb pink given the time (2.30pm) so thankfully he went to check, returned and assured us it would be. No surprises, it was like shoe leather, the veg was raw and accompanied by TWO bone dry potatoes. To make matters worse the waiter spilt wine drops onto my bf's lap and didn't apologise! Overall POOR execution, AWFUL food and SLOPPY service. Never returning.
