Top weekend here, the food is excellent and service is floorless, really friendly. We will definitely be returning. The PG Tips needs swapping for Yorkshire tea, is my only criticism. 😀

We visited after walking in the Peaks with family, the bar staff were very pleasant & friendly, we had a super time thank you.

Absolutely delicious food in a beautiful environment.

Went to the sir William Hotel today and was amazing.
extremely friendly staff one of which informed us it was her first day but was a natural, very pleasant and professional.
we have two autistic children and the ladies were very helpfull and accommodating.
fantastic food and good prices will definitely be back for more

Just had a lovely 4 night's here. Cracking base for walks, good food and staff very helpful. Particularly Angela who couldn't do enough for us.

Amazing little hotel in the heart of the Peak District. Great warm welcoming, great food and hospitality. Highly recommend as a good base to go out for some walks.

My father passed away Tuesday. Booking. Com phoned then to see if I could 're book the owner refused. I phoned and he said same thing. Wanted me to phone Friday and sat to see if the rooms had been 're booked if they hadnt he will charge me 180pound. And just said about losing money. I have just lost my dear father and he didnt even say sorry for your loss. Disgusting…

Have refused a refund to a good friend of mine who lost her dad this week, how unsympathetic is that.

I was not in the hotel so I cannot say anything about that. The interior is not timeless but just old. Staff was not friendly at all, … the food was really worthless. When you want to visit this place, … please only drink a beer.

We only eat here but is was a disaster! 2 complete meals tasted like “nothing”. I think it was food from cans warmed up in a microwave. Nice garden but with very poor picknick tables.

We have never been disappointed with the food or hospitality at the Sir William. Terry, Helen and all their staff are excellent hosts. The atmosphere is great and the views are stunning. Great place to eat.

The staff was friendly, the food was not bad, the sleeping room was good. The location is great, near many amazing walks. But for the similar price there's Maynards in same location and looks to be better.

Had a one night stay at The Sir William after a long day of hiking. It was certainly value-for-dollar, and I was pleasantly surprised by the level of comfort of the room. The room was clean and the carpet soft. The staff were friendly and would check that you are enjoying your meal even when it gets busy. However, the wait times can be slightly long due to the few staff available. Overall, a pleasant experience and I would recommend for the friendly staff and the charming, rustic atmosphere.

Quaint hotel a tad off the beaten track but ideally placed for travellers wishing to be in the heart of the Peak District.

Nice food and lovely service but a bit pricey for my budget!

Stayed locally with a large (20) group of friends & came here for dinner & drinks — a lovely place, great food, friendly & helpful staff (we hadn’t booked! ) & the landlord even gave a few of us a lift back to our house as I was on crutches due to a knee op.

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Breakfast was really nice and staff were really welcoming.

The location is fabulous, the staff were so helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the food plentiful and of very high quality. Quiz night on the sunday was challenging and the hand pulled ales satisfying. Breakfast here really sets you up for the day and it's a perfect base from which to explore the rest of hope valley. Finally, if you're a gin connoisseur like us you will not be disappointed with their selections!

We were there for a private function. A set price three course lunch for £23.40 a head. Food was flavourful, portions were generous, staff were friendly and attentive. Decor a little dated, but bright rooms and clean. Would happily use them again.

Great friendly place to go and stay or just for a meal. Nothing is to much trouble for them. They make sure you have everything you need and will definitely be back.

Stayed over night with my wife and our big chocolate lab. As soon as we got there we were shown to our room which had a fabulous view over the valley.
Everyone was great, nothing was to much trouble. We had a lovely meal in the bar at the night and we were allowed to take the dog with us.
They have both dog friendly accommodation and rooms where dogs are not allowed. It is the same in the dinning room. There is an area where dogs are not allowed which accommodates everyone.
Would not hesitate to go back or recommend to others.

Couldn't recommend the Sir WIlliam highly enough. Room was great, food and beer excellent and the staff and owners couldn't have made us more comfortable. They helped dry out all of our wet clothes for our second days hiking and even kindly posted on some belongings that I'd accidentally left in my room. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would.

The pub is coming and nicely decorated with an excellent selection of well kept real ales. Or did was cooked to order and impeccably presented, and very tasty too.

We are a group of walkers and called in for a pint or cup of tea. We were delighted to be given plates of chips. Very welcome after a long walk. Thank you landlord.

Food was very poor, not home made, expensive for what it was, would be better at a chain pub! Probably good for a pint but should avoid at all cost for food.

Stayed for 2 nights The main problem was the Bass from the pub stereo vibrating through the floorboards until 1.30am, Breakfast is 8am until 9am and the cleaners start at 9am. I enjoyed my food but my girlfriend didn't enjoy her vegetarian options, You have to walk through a cramped bar full of the locals every time you want to come or go. The tables were sticky. Nice view from our window and made the most of it regardless.

The hotel is situated in a picturesque village and it has stunning views. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. There is a relaxing atmosphere and the rooms are well decorated and comfortable.

Nice hotel right in the middle of the peak district park. Perfect for walkers and those that want to get away from the cities for a weekend.

Amazing place. In the hands of a new owner (9 months) who is slowly working through an extensive list of renovations but despite that, is a lovely place with great food and views to die for.

Only been here for a meal. There was no atmosphere. The bar staff/waitress was abrupt. The decor is dated and tired. The food was terrible worse than any transport cafe with frozen chips and peas, everything seemed to come out of a packet or can! The cost for 2 for starter, main and 2 drinks was over £50! Disgusting! Definitely a place to avoid! We certainly won't be going back.

Only stayed a few days but lovely hotel, very clean and tidy, staff very friendly and helpful. Wonderful location. Although we had the standard room it was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was also excellent. We were there with our daughter, son in law and little baby and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Very good value for money.

Had a lovely Sunday roast, all home made and delicious, including a home made cheese cake for desert. Lovely view. Polite staff. Price was reasonable, not cheap, but worth it.

Used to be a posh pub years ago, much frequented by the horsey and sports car brigade and it's still got an upmarket feel about it but now more as a hotel than a pub. When we went in as four grubby hikers we were made very welcome and did not feel too out of place despite the genteel blue-rinse ladies sitting nearby. We enjoyed the fine valley views from its rear windows and had pretty decent sandwiches and ale for lunch which although pricier than usual, was less than we expected for this type of establishment.

The new management have completely transformed this pub and it now serves excellent food. The beer is always well-kept too.

The Sir WIlliam is now under new management and has been refurbished and I had a great stay with great food.

Grim. Do not go to this place! This is the worst "hotel" I have ever stayed in. The room was not clean: filthy carpet, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, piles, yes piles of dust in the shower room, filth all around the shower cubicle — you only had to put a wet finger on the edges to see the dirt that came off, yuk! No heating at all, so cold as well. It was so bad, but we were stuck having booked for two nights, so we had to stay. There was no bath mat, one sachet of body lotion and one small bottle of shampoo, neither of which was replenished; the decor was in vogue about 1960. Little point in complaining as place was like Bedlam when we arrived and staff stressed. I understand from other reviews, many of which paint much the same picture as me, that this place has had a recent refurb, but I could see no evidence of this. The room was tatty with real DIY cupboards etc. The staff were off-hand, not a smile to be had from them, poker faced the lot of them. Eat there, not on your life? We didn't even eat breakfast but were still charged for it. Only found out the kitchen was shutting at 8pm on our first night because we asked — no information offered to us at all by surly staff. No greeting on our return in the evening and a curfew of 12.30am with no offer of a key and certainly no night porterage. The one redeeming feature was the view from the window — however, the curtains so thin and the morning sun was so bright you needed to shield your eyes to continue sleeping.
