Called in today for a Carvery & Dessert 5/5 Carvery was fantastic great quality, hot and fresh veg Service — Lady serving never smiled never or spoke Desserts — Carrot Cake — Very dry and hard around the edge — left all except a bite full Cheese cake again very disappointing Also left it So for a lovely lunch Carvery it perfect Desserts appalling dry and unappertsing However spoke to manager and he sorted the desserts out So almost perfect!

Our stay was fine. Lovely pub good beer and good food. The breakfast wasn't brilliant but it hit the spot.

Excellent service and good food. Pleasant clean environment and good service at the bar. A average busy Wednesday night. Carvery looked delicious with goidcsized helpings.

Had the carvery for the 1st time in ages here. Lovely selection of well cooked meats & vegetables. Bonus for me too as a Coeliac. They only serve gluten free gravy!.

Dreadful must have been the worst meal I have ever had all the food was dried up and it was like eating rubber. Used to be really nice so I think it must have change hands, the toilets was disgusting to say they do food. Had to put one star to get my review on otherwise its no stars from me or the wife, we just got a refund and wiped ower feet on the way out… once its sorted we will return because we know it can be nice…

Lovely atmosphere and rustic modern decor. Food was good especially the pudding.

Being an employee there I can say that the food is amazing and the service we give is quite good. People who leave are leaving with a smile and a filled stomach, we leave everyone satisfied… hopefully.

Disgraceful place! Food was fine but the sour faced bint behind the bar made the whole experience most unpleasant! When I am spending my money, I do not expect to be made to feel like an inconvenience. I’d recommend providing your staff with some customer service training.

We had a fantastic stay, lovely room and food was nice. Plus they are biker friendly would definitely recommend to anyone.

Not visited for a while and decided to give it a go with my partner and 2 young kids. The kids eat free was no longer an option so we opted for a large carvery a medium carvery and a small carvery with the appreciated option of a bowl to give the odd item of food to our 10 month old to try at the table. On the whole, everyone was disappointed with their meals. There wasn't a fantastic array of veg on offer and what was available looked tired and of poor quality. The sliced carrots were discoloured whilst the peas and sweetcorn were dried out and bland. The new potatoes were inconsistent — some cooked some not — and the roast potatoes could best be described as roast potato shaped chips. They certainly didn't look roasted. They had the appearance, taste & 'quality' one would usually associate with frozen roast potatoes which had been deep fried. It would be interesting to see if this is the "standard" at busier times or if this is just a cost cutting measure in the week. The gammon I had was quite salty, and the turkey my partner had was predominantly fat, so this too was a let down. However, the staff were friendly, the stuffing and the cranberry sauce were both very nice as were the balloon shaped Yorkshire puddings! There was also an issue with my soft drink not being fizzy nor lemonade flavoured which was quickly rectified.

Nice clean pub, friendly staff food however I expected better for the price, £3.99 for a kids meal which had 4 dippers on it a few chips no drink included. My friend and me had a medium carvery there wasn't many options for the meat either beef, turkey or gammon all 3 looked OK. I haven't been to this pub before and if I'm honest I probably won't be going again.

We stopped for a drinks and a snack on the way home. It was ok, nothing special. There was an event going on at the same time (funeral or christening), which meant there was a lot more people at the venue than expected. Food came out quick, we had a sharer. It was ok, but just microwave grub really.

Difficult to find your way into the place off the busy roundabout. But once in food good staff efficient and friendly.

Went in for a carvery during Monday Lunchtime. Its very nice and spacious inside. The food was excellent, all was hot and we weren't queuing for very long at all. They offer 2 medium carverys for £10, which we took advantage of. They also offer refillable soft drinks for £2.95 which you get refilled at the bar. There is plenty of parking and a sheltered smoking area outside. Had a very enjoyable meal considering it wasn't planned.

Really nice pup. Excellent staff who were very helpful and friendly! Food delicious! Managed to be seated without prior booking, really good about that.

Genuinely do not like leaving bad reviews so only do them when I feel I must. I Went for a meal with my partner and son on my birthday 23/12 I chose this pub as I had always liked it, this opinion has now changed. The food was awful, possibly one of the worst meals I have ever had the prawns still frozen the salad brown, my mixed grill was 90% fat the steak was meant to be medium it came out really rare. I did complain to the waiter politely as it was not his fault I saw him then tell the manager. The manager made no attempt to speak to us or ask what was wrong he just glared as if we were the problem, I did not want a free meal I just wanted to express my disappointment after so many good meals. Take my advice guys find somewhere else to eat. Companies need to wake up to the fact customers are so important, I work in customer service and every day I make it my number one goal to ensure customer happiness, without the customer you have no business. Sort it out guys.

Fabulous carvery lovely price. If you want pigs in blankets ask when paying for carvery otherwise you'll miss out.

Great staff. Great location, great sharer platters… main menu is not amazing but worth a visit.

Great place to eat. Good food and desserts to die for (if there's any room left that is) and being a Marston's good beer too.

Lovely food, excellent barstaff, plenty of space inside. The prices are excellent too. We have even changed our original booking from elsewhere to here for our Xmas dinner. Wheelchair facilities are also excellent. Plenty of seating and outdoor space, and even a play area for children outside.

Excellent venue for lunches and evening meals. Carvery is well worth a try too. Always leave happy.

Brilliant place for a carvery, great food and good value (as is the rest of the menu) can get busy at times but you can reserve tables.

Good food and prices. The children got bored not much toys or activities.

Disgusting experience! Food was cold and the service was dreadful. Complained to a staff member about our food and we were given £21.55 back from a waiter but the manager didn't even have the disency to come speak to us. And the woman at the bar gave me alcohol free cider and a Pepsi when I clearly ordered a normal cider and a diet Coke. Wasn't listening and was condencending towards me! Will not be going there ever again, better to go to the cherry tree farm (lovely food and staff)

The night porter was very very helpful and friendly, went the extra mile to help A+++ highly recommended, Best travel lodge I've been to by far!

Accommodation is excellent very clean. Nothing too much trouble for the staff especially Debbie. She was extremely helpful and a great personality. She is a credit to Marston's Inns. Will definitely return.

Had a lovely stop over here whilst visiting a very sick relative in Derby Royal hospital which was close by. Accommodation and food first class & very friendly top class staff. Highly recommend this venue.

The waiters and the bar staff are very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The bar staff especially Marilyn? Has excellent customer care service and deserves a big thank you. The food is excellent and value for money. It is a nice atmosphere. The other day we had a carvery and it is the best we have had eating out. Well done to all staff and the chefs.

Excellent food, family priced. Specials at various time of day. Variety of food. Buffett with portion selction according to appetite and budget. Outdoor seating… picnic benches, outdoors not suitable for fine dressed. Limited handicap seating due to raised floor areas. Reservations needed for special occasions. Highly recommend. Vegan items on menu for halal appetites.

Came in expecting to get a carvery but the veg looked dry and not very good. Noticj choice for gluten free of you don't eat peas and corn. Ended up having lasagne which was very peppery. Whilst there another table complained about the food no one appeared interested.

Accommodation is basic but good and more importantly clean. When I was there last it was having the bedrooms redecorated. The breakfast is very good and the standard of food overall is also good. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Fabulous! Excellent food, hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble, and the ALL the staff are polite, thoughtful, and extremely helpful. Added bonus the cakes are delicious.

We ate dinner at The King's Highway a couple of days ago. It isn't too far from where we live, so we're not exactly strangers to the business. I'm not sure where to begin with this review. I think know I'll go for good points and bad points. Good points. It's situated on the inner ring road at the entrance of Kingsway retail park. Waiting on staff are mostly polite and helpful. The ambience is good with a cosy feel about the place. Bad points: Barstaff are mostly unwelcoming. It feels like they're doing their job under sufference. Sometimes it's difficult to get served at the bar, even at times when the pub isn't busy. I always get the distinct impression that it's an effort for bar staff to be pleasant. The carvery: Has to be the worst presented carvery I've seen. The management would do well to observe their rivals Toby Carvery to see how it's done. Foodstuffs are never cooked properly. More often than not the joints of meat are dry. We tend to go there to eat from the menu. Even though they are mostly Ping meals, they are beautifully presented and don't taste too bad. Though over priced. If you're looking for a quick fix it's not a bad place to visit.

Average pub grub carvery. Not best but not the worst. New menu out so will have to see what is like.

Thank You, Danny and staff for a wonderful "Mothers Day" treat… We had the carvery, and the beef was delicious, a large range of Veg, and the lovely big "Yorkshires" we also had a melt in your mouth lemon and mandarin sponge yummy! OK carvery not bad for the price.

Just back from the kings highway, carvery superb as ever, this must be the best value carvery in the country, staff great, comfortable and good atmosphere, already booked for xmas eve dinner for wife and I and boxing day for all the family (11)

Pub itself is quite nice. Food and service are poor, food took ages, was cold when arrived. Food is very cheap, not worth what you pay for it. Got food orders wrong that hadn't even been altered. Had to repeatedly ask to get what was missing from my order. Won't be going again.

Dreadful carvery, adequate otherwise.

Food is fairly well priced but reflects on the quality service is ok and never seems overly busy. However the drinks are over priced a bummers coming in at £4.10 a bottle. Been here a few times to see if things have changed they haven't so only 2 stars.

Cheap but pretty standard. Weekday carvery is very cheap and you get good portions. Don't expect the best food. Except decent food at a low price. Good for families.

Ive got to say I and my wife was not impressed by the size of the portions of the food from the main menu, not good value for money, my sons kids meal was really bad, his stodgy dry potatoes from a packet were badly mixed, and when I asked the waiter he did not know if they was from a packet or real! his chicken nuggets (and I use the term chicken loosely) seemed re-heated and was dry. From what I witnessed of the cavery food, there potions seemed better value for money, so if you go try that.

The Kings Highway is excellent value for money. There is a good carvery with a choice of meat and vegetables. There is also a table menu with lots of popular dishes. The children's menu has all the usual favourites. The seating area is large but it can got full on Sunday lunchtimes.
