Lovely Victorian hotel in need of a lot of care! As you walk into reception hotel looks amazing! Staff very friendly. Food nice! It all goes faulty towers when you get to your room! Rooms more 2star than 4 star. Size of room fine even for a compact room. Just needs a major update! For £50.00 a night can't complain too much! Parking cheap less than a fiver for 24 hrs!

Amazing old building. Really beautiful and iconic. Lovely staff and a good breakfast. We had the compact room and even that was a fine size. The fact is that the whole place needs about £30-40 million spent on refurbishments. The swimming pool changerooms need to be demolished, our bathroom windows were screwed shut, and all floors in the hotel are creaky and feel like they are about to fall through.

Lovely old grand building needing a little bit of tender loving care with the paint work. Food was good, plenty of it, rooms were clean and comfortable. I went swimming in hotel indoor pool, loved it. The staff were all so helpful and friendly they made the Palace hotel a very special experience. I would definitely go back again. Buxton is a place worth visiting.

Nowhere near it's star rating Run down, unloved. Room was clean enough. Food was like a cheap self service cafe. Drinks and bar menu pricey. In a great location. Please refurbish quickly such a beautiful building with lots of character.

Check in pretty strict on waiting till 2pm… but it was fully booked the night before. Staff very helpful and still booked me in and all I had to do was come back any time after 2 to collect my key cards. Hotel is old but to be expected cause either is OLD… dated decor but rooms clean… loads of hot water breakfast excellent self service with very very good spread of food. Excellent choice and staff excellent. Grounds are beautiful and virtually in the middle of the town. Easy access to everywhere. Highly recommend.

Good hotel does need some updates. Hotel is up to high standard. Renovations and repairs on going Britannia have made improvements. Town centre Does conferences. Room hire for party's. Holds weddings popular venue for full occasion people get married in. Grounds. Has regular coach party's. Holiday a in peak district. Has fireworks to celebrate. Always busy.

Lovely building in a great location but Britannia Hotels, who run it, very poor. Staff do what they can but obvious philosophy of Britannia is to do everything on the cheap. Our room had a leak in the roof. We were moved but couldn't get in. Took 45 minutes to sort out the key. Towel rail hanging off wall. Bathroom window wouldn't close. We were overcharged and are still waiting for our refund 4 weeks later. They put the credit card swipe you normally do on arrival through as a sale then charged us again when we left. Very difficult to get a response from them. The phone number for customer service is premium rate.

I wasn’t sure whether to give 3 or 4 stars. I would say it is 4 star for it being excellent value — we got a standard double room for 3 nights for 2 of us for £240 which is £40 each per night including breakfast. As other reviews state it is a bit tired — but totally sufficient. Rooms were warm, bathroom clean, bed was comfortable. The whole thing needs an update but it’s pleasant as is with lots of guests and a nice feel. Breakfast was good — standard fare — with enough food and if something ran out, it was quickly replenished. So ignore reviews that say they were hoodwinked/ that it is literally threadbare/ nothing left for breakfast. It’s the best value hotel I’ve stayed in in the UK, in a great location.

Very nice rooms, with comfortable beds and sheets. The bathrooms are also very clean. You can have a typical English breakfast! The hotel has good facilities, for example the gym and the pool. And it's also pretty!

A one star is far too generous. This place is awful and the staff are dreadful. I am still trying to claim back money from them after six months. No customer care. Primitive facilities. Avoid it and go to other better hotels in the area. It would take a whole page to list the problems we had. Should be closed down.

Lovely place, in need of some tlc but maybe that's part of the old girls charm. Some staff could do with learning to smile and greet customers with a welcome rather than a chilly air. But on the whole it was a great place for an overnight stay. Really comfy spacious bedrooms and lashings of hot water.

3 night stay. 1st night was ok, (room 17) smallish room for a pet friendly double, disturbed sleep due to generator noise. When mentioned at reception, young lady on reception was extremely helpful. Moved to room 19, no windows, much bigger room. Quiet part of the hotel. Breakfast was buffet style, and decent. Excellent location for Buxton town centre. Spa was decent, very busy swimming pool and steam room and Sauna, but all facilities were good. Nice hotel.

A nice building but in need of renovation. Rooms feel dated. Good facilities. Reasonable breakfast. Friendly staff. Clean. Excellent location to central Buxton. Would stay again.

The room was a respectable size, and all furniture and decor was appropriate. The bathroom was a little below the standard I expected though. There were a couple of minor annoyances, but nothing too major. The window had been left open, which meant the room was very cold when we first walked in. Closing the window and turning the radiator on soon solved this though. One of the two lights in the bathroom was out as well. Not great, but it didn't actually get in the way so I never reported it. Food was to an acceptable standard. Dinner didn't seem particularly good value for money, but breakfast seemed much better. It is an impressive looking hotel, and I didn't have a bad time. Everything was just very average, so I don't think I'd recommend the place. I'm sure there are better options out there.

Wow. Hoodwinked! The hotel advertises itself as a 4* venue (both on the booking sites and on its own (and boards outside the hotel). This is NOT even. Close… Staff suggested the hotel is NOT now starred/rated at all… (I was told this when questioning the room. Standards) … The room we stayed in was apparently 'standard'. The hotel we previously stayed in had a bigger bathroom (this is no exaggeration). The carpet was literally thread-bare. Again no exaggeration! The building has much potential and is in a good location. Staff are friendly … but are 'tied' with what. They can and can not do to improve the situation (apparently) … The four star advertisement is apparently to remain (against. Their wishes). I see this as blatant trading standard/miss selling issue… Britannia hotels obviously have no ethics… I have stayed in better standard hostels and far nicer hotels with lesser (genuine) ratings.

Bit dated but clean Foyer very impressive! Upgraded room to executive free of charge. Spacious room, large bed, great view just a bit dated and tired especially in the bathroom but clean and great for the money. The swimming pool area not great but gym okay. Evening meal 3 courses help yourself buffet style was okay but not fantastic. Breakfast really good. Overall clean hotel in great location definately would stay again but eat out next time.

Lovely building that needs refurbishment. It offers comfortable accommodation at reasonable price. Good breakfast and friendly restaurant staff. Bar is not brilliant but there are plenty of lovely pubs out of the hotel.

The exterior looks very grand as does the foyer and bar area. The room was nice except for parts of the end suite being unclean. We understand that we were wedding guests and that rooms were turned around quickly. Staff were very helpful and polite though and possibly the best nights sleep we've had in a hotel. Recommend it for a wedding.

Hotel was conveniently located in Buxton in the town centre and right next to the shops and restaurants. Room was fine, nothing special but what you would expect for the price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only small complaint was having to pay for parking. Because of its location this is probably necessary but I feel that guests shouldn't have to pay! Having said that, it was only £4.50 for 24 hours and it was made clear on the booking site that parking was available and not free. Otherwise would recommend for a short break!

This hotel exceeded expectations. It was in an excellent location, just less than 5 minutes walk to sine of the best restaurants and the shopping area. The room was quite large and well equipped. The decor isn't too suit all tastes, for those used to a premier Inn you may feel disappointed, however I was glad to see they hadn't cheapened the character by trying too hard to modernise. It was very clean and tidy, kept well daily and all the staff were friendly and happy to say hello. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will be staying here again.

Splendid hotel now run by Britannia so beware! My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights 13/14 October 2017, parking charges of £4.50 introduced with no guarantee of a space — weekends are a nightmare. Functions with loud bands, discos with no regard for hotel gusts staying and being kept awake until 1pm sometimes. Helpful staff who despair at Britannia seeking profit first with scant regard for their guests… not good!

The hotel a bit of a disappointment when we initially arrived. Parking was £4.50 for guests — personally I think it should have been free. The lobby was busy and looked very dated. Check-in was straightforward and the staff were friendly. When we went up to the room, the door had seen better days and was in dire need of a lick of paint. However the room was very nice (if not a big on the small size). The bed was gigantic and very comfortable. Possitives: The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was nice and of a high quality. The bed was very comfortable. Negatives: The fee for the parking, dated lobby and corridor.

Beautiful and enormous hotel. Large rooms and comfortable but needing a bit of attention. Excellent deals to stay here and food was enjoyable but not striking. Self service at dinner and breakfast with plenty to choose from. Situated close to the town it is an easy walk to the centre and there is much to enjoy.

A great deal of money has been spent on the public rooms here, and they are truly splendid. Unfortunately, however, similar sums have not been spent on the rooms and facilities, which therefore do not match the splendour of the public rooms. My room had nowhere to put a suitcase — not an unreasonable thing to expect in a hotel room — as the surfaces were either too small or covered with stuff. Bathroom needed attention, water flow slow: 10 minutes to run a (pale yellow) hot bath is too long. Restaurant gave a fair breakfast, with only limited fresh fruit. Dinner was well cooked, but the menu choices a decade out of date. Staff, on the other hand, universally polite and helpful. Finally, by way of information only, at the age of 69, I would guess I was at the average age of guests, or perhaps slightly younger.

Nice location and hotel. Bed was firmer than I am accustomed to and the T. V didn't work. Some of the rooms are a bit on the small side but the food is good and has some good facilities available e. G. A gym and a swimming pool.

Surprisingly good for a huge chain hotel. Rooms OK, good size, we had a great view. Service very friendly Iffy points… a little tired throughout. Food was unnecessarily aired. Very much a lottery when fresh hot food was brought out to the buffet. I would definitely stay again though, next time go earlier for the meal!

Overall hotel looked pretty good from the outside and inside lobby, but the bedrooms didn't match at all. Staff wasn't helpful, and hint of racism was shown. The food was good overall and the facilities were average, showers cold and toilets didn't flush. Overall I would not recommend this hotel.

Very poor experience, definitely not a four star hotel, maybe used to be 'grand' 100 years ago but is now run down. Hot water in the shower was coming and going and water didn't run off. Still they charge four start prices, a cappuccino sets you back £3.50. We had a light lunch and it was shocking poor and took long to arrive although nobody else was ordering food. For the same price you can find much better accommodation in the area.

Hotel looks good from the outside but once inside not so good. Very tired and in need of refurbishment. Not 4 star quality at all, more 2 — 3. Wouldn't stay there again. We booked 5 nights twin room but the twin beds were zipped together and the bedding was king size sheet but the duvet didn't cover it as it was a smaller size than the duvet cover. Told reception we booked twin bedded room and was told it would be put right but it wasn't. Booked online and paid in advance for whole stay bed and breakfast but on check in was asked for payment for room and for breakfast. Showed them the e-mail confirmation and that was changed on their system. Only one lift for the whole of the hotel so spent a lot of time waiting for it to arrive. Room not nicely furnished, tired dated furniture. 3 coach trips arrived when we were there so impossible to find a seat in the lounge in the evenings. The rooms are nothing like the photos on the website, carpet was not plain in our room but a very bush brown and orange pattern and the room was very dark not helped by the dark date furniture.

Our recent experience in the Britannia Palace Hotel in Buxton was beyond horrible. Neither me nor my husband ever thought that there could be a place that calls itself a hotel but offers a service and hygienic standards that any cheap B&B would be ashamed of. 1) We arrived on Friday evening around 11 p. M. Tired of the working day and the long travel. We checked in at the hotel, paid in full for the room, the breakfast and the car parking. And only then the receptionist mentioned to us that our room might be noisy. Because, you see, the Britannia Palace Hotel is a luxury hotel, and it has a night club with loud music, but not enough money to make the rooms soundproof. Instead of going to bed at 11:30 p. M. We had to enjoy the torture know as the "music box" till 1 a. M. The music heard in our room (full floor above the night club) was so loud we were able to heard every note of this cheap pop cacophony. Calls to the reception did not help — we were told that the night club will be open, and the receptionist "will try to do something". Whatever he did made no difference at all. If he did anything — because our further stay in the hotel showed us that staff there is good at one thing only — saying this sacramental phrase "we will do something". Without actually doing anything. My husband even went down to this night club — and found it empty. The loud music was played for an empty room. And still no one bothered to turn it down.

Overall for what we paid for 3 nights, our experience was positive and we enjoyed staying at the hotel and using its facilities. The gym and pool were to a good standard. We did think that the staff were a bit slow checking us in and out and preparing our room. Also the standard double room we stayed in was smaller than what we were expecting according to photographs on the website.

Booked standard room, large and comfy. Cleaned and towels changed daily. Good breakfast and ate dinner on one night all good. Staff friendly and attentive despite an obvious shortage. Didn't use pool gym sauna spa so can't comment. Overall very pleased would recommend.

Not good value for money. Do not be fooled — this is not a four star hotel and when we complained and used this as an argument they were quick to tell us that it has not actually been accredited. Like many others have said, the exterior is extremely nice (minus the bright red sign at night) however the inside is very dated. We paid for 3 rooms. Two of which were fairly acceptable and we were happy to pay the full amount for. The other room that I had (room 11 I recall) was on the ground floor, which you had to walk through multiple servants corridors that looked more like a hospital than a hotel. The room itself was terrible, which I imagine was a converted broom closet, barely fitting a double bed and backing onto the unloading bay which coupled as the staff's smoking area. There was also a strong smell of chlorine in our room, from the swimming pool. We initially waited 10 minutes or so to get our key and then immediately decided to complain after seeing the other two rooms we booked for the same price. We were told that due to other upgraded following complaints there were no other rooms left. We ended up getting moved to another room that was similar to the one we complained about, which was slightly better in that it didn't smell and was a bit bigger. This room (room 18) didn't actually have any windows. We could tell when complaining that the staff were slightly embarrassed and I have no doubt that this happens on a daily basis.

Lovely Victorian Hotel with amazing decor and architecture! Service could be improved on, the staff were very professional in there jobs but not very forthcoming with information to help with the stay here. For instance upon arrival we were not informed about dining in the hotel and had to go to the dining area to find out how to eat there. More info on check in please.

Great hotel. Yes, slightly dated, but it really doesn't upset or inconvenience you as some reviews may suggest. The hotel has great character and is in a beautiful town. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful (with the exception of the gatekeeper of the breakfast hall). It's great to sit out the front on a summers evening and have a bottle of wine or two. The swimming pool could do with some more lighting but operates as it should. We'll be going back to buxton later this year and if they have any rooms available, we'll be staying here!
