Reviews of Cumbria Park Hotel 3*
Excellent hotel, large bed, clean rooms, nice meals and great staff. The only negative was only 2 plugs in room, one for TV and one spare. A much needed four way extension. Thanks, Vinny and Annette, Liverpool. Stayed 9th to 11th June 2022
Have had dinner here a few times now recently and never been disappointed. High quality food, good drinks selection, decent prices, clean environment and excellent customer service.
Great service from staff and excellent food.
Beautiful interior, amazing staff, room was big, lovely modern bathroom, large bed. 100% recommend. They even got a birthday balloon in the room for arrival as I had requested (hubbys bday) went out their way to make our stay amazing. Stunning hotel!
We knew that we wouldn’t arrive until very late because we had a long drive. The staff were very helpful. The room was very clean. The breakfast was great my son had a cooked breakfast and I had the other. So much to choose from, the breakfast staff were also very helpful. Definitely value for money. For us it wasn’t far from the Cumberland Infirmary (which is why we stayed there) Not far from Hadrians Wall and Scotland. If I have to go up that way again I would definitely stay there.
Just had a lovely overnight stay at the hotel. It was perfect for our visit to see a show at The Sands Centre in Carlisle. After parking the car in the large rear hotel car park we were given such a warm and friendly welcome at reception. Our room was spotless but rather dated… refurbishment is currently taking place. We then enjoyed a delicious early evening meal in the bar area before walking just 10 minutes to the Sands Centre venue. No cost or stress with carparking! 😁 Breakfast was fantastic, and throughout our stay the hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Thr Cumbria Park as a place to stay and we'll hopefully be back soon to see another show! Thank you.
Lovely staff, beautiful hotel, breakfast was spot on, would most certainly be back.
Lovely staff excellent food 5star.
We came New Years we and had a lovley meal we thought we would try the Sunday lunch was lovley we will definitely be back brilliant service too x.
Just had a lovely Christmas family meal today. The staff were all so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious will definitely be returning.
I stayed here for one night this week and it was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful from the outset. Brilliant that I could park up in the morning before check in and next day on check out it was ok to leave the car there until later in the day. Room was clean and spacious, the important thing the bed was amazingly comfy nice size bathroom with a bathtub. I will certainly return there when visiting the city and have already told others about it. Thank You to all staff especially the lady serving breakfast, (I think she was called Jenny? ) who was so helpful.
Been to a Christmas party night.
Fab venue, delicious food, great music!
Highly recommended
Well done to all the team, it was a pleasure… thank you so much.
We had the pleasure of holding our daughters 18th birthday here and an amazing time was had by all. Staff extremely helpful and friendly and Wendy made the whole experience easy-nothing too much trouble absolutely faultless would definitely recommend.
Lovely suite, staff very friendly, restaurant very fairly priced, overall a good stay, will be returning again.
Stayed overnight on our trip to Scotland. Very pleasant experience, staff very helpful and courteous, rooms small but very comfortable. Bed very comfortable. Food was excellent. Have stayed here on four occasions now and will definitely stay again. Thanks to staff and management who make it so enjoyable!
Lovely room friendly staff location good.
Really pleased with our stay. Hotel and room are kept very clean (which I found reassuring during Covid). Staff super helpful, accommodated our last minute dinner request. Dinner was top class — taste, presentation and also very reasonably priced. Convenient location with minutes walk to the supermarket and takeaways.
Clean. But dated decor in need of some tlc. Beds very comfy. Eve meal was good. Could have not had the cooked breakfast. Good value for money all round. Nice staff.
We had an incredible take out Sunday lunch last month and can’t wait to visit the Hotel for an ‘in-house’ repeat performance as soon as we can.
Thank you for my 2x Sunday dinners from the competition win. They were delicious and the Yorkshire puddings are huge and very tasty ☺️
Had the most amazing Christmas day dinner at the Cumbria Park. Food was absolutely outstanding! Staff were very obliging & friendly. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you to all the staff who made our Christmas day memorable. 5 star rating from us.
Nice meals, excellent chef.
Had beautiful roast beef dinner takeaway today, myself and daughter thoroughly enjoyed it, even gave us pot of extra gravy without asking for it.
Good sized portion of food, meat was melt in mouth too thankyou.
Had a lovely lunch again today.
Very friendly staff and good food.
Homemade Black Cherry ice cream was delicious.
Noisy room, free upgrade to superior room but no idea what was superior about it. Old fashioned decor, horrible bathroom, creaky bed. Not value for money. Instant coffee for breakfast that was too weak to make its way out the pot! Average breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Alarm went off during the night repeatedly jarring us awake so got dressed and went downstairs to be told the chef was smoking in his bathroom triggering fire alarms.
Starter was cold and only small and not bruchetta but muffin,
cod was lovely chips were way too salty and fried new potatoes, steak pie was hard and chewy wouldn't have paid full price for it.
Really enjoyed the safe but natural feel to the environment. Meal was fantastic. Steak pie melted in the mouth friendly and very efficient staff. Definitely recommend.
A rare day out yesterday spreading some VE Day cheer to some friends who are doing amazing during this lockdown. The afternoon teas were brilliant and delicious, can’t wait to come for one once you reopen — с Simon Webster.
Amazing afternoon tea. Great customer service.
Thankyou so much.
Amazing customer service, excellent VE Day Afternoon tea for myself and my daughter. Beautifully presented and delivered with a smile and a treat. Thank you xoxo.
Excellent food and lovely staff.
Friendly helpful staff. Comfy bed and room, breakfast had plenty of choice and cooked breakfast lovely and hot. Champion cocktail makers on Saturday night were James and Josh. Will definitely be back, should be 4 or more.
The food was lovely and service was great.
Just had afternoon tea here, it was amazing! The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The staff were lovely too x.
Very nice meal, excellent staff. Good service and fair wine list, will be back in the near future.
Absolutely delicious. We never went into Fells restaurant as we were eating in the bar but we had a look in Fells. Its stunning a lot of hard work and total dedication has gone into this. The Cumbria Park Hotel is such a beautiful place. The staff take a lot of pride in their job role, the manage of Fells told us all about how it came about why it was called The Fells. Our meal was delicious, perfectly placed on clean white plates. Cutlery was all clean, napkins nice and crisp and a beautiful happy waitress served us.
I wish you all lots of luck for the future in The Fells restaurant and all 9f the Cumbria Park Hotel.
LOVE this place. Staff very efficient and so friendly. Feels AMAZING to be on the site of Petriana, the LARGEST fort on Hadrian’s Wall. Clean, food amazing, good prices. Great atmosphere.
Came here for food tonight and it was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and the staff just couldn't do enough for you. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back again. This place doesn't get enough credit.
Stayed here with my husband for 2 nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The receptionist man was nice and welcoming. Hotel is clean with an easy walking distance to the centre with shops. There is a free parking at the hotel. We always managed to find a free space to park. Restaurant serves great food. We would definitely stay here again.
Went for Funeral Tea today Friday 12th July 2019. Tea coffee water brought in, put on table, food brought in put on side table. No one came near or said what too do. Staff left room. In the end we helped ourselves. Sandwiches like DOOR STOPS, no filling and no finesse, masses left. Jelly type cake cut into 3”x1” x2” melted when you tried too lift them. Sadly been too a lot, but would stay away from this place. No service or care, sad for family.
The food is really good. Staff are lovely. Hotel is a little dated in places but room is clean and warm. What more could u Want for the price.
We booked this hotel to stay in the night before and of our wedding & booked our wedding meal here too. Staff were lovely and super helpful, meal was amazing & everyone commented on it. However upon check in I was asked to pay balance of rooms & girl told me it was a pre-authorisation. Checked my bank balance and the £1477.50 was pending to leave my bank. All good. Upon check out the receptionist (different to one upon check in) asked for the balance to be paid which I questionned and explained the first one had done this etc & it was pending to leave bank, lady said yes but she needed my PIN number to approve the transaction. Done this and left. Went away and returned home 4 days later. Went to pay for food shopping for us & our 5 year old daughter & card was declined. Check account & im — £400. (I have no overdraft). Check and the hotel have taken money out not once but twice! Leaving me 3 days before my home wedding reception & leaving myself and my husband and daughter without any money or food or fuel as all our money was in this account. 1 week before payday. Absolutely livid right on phone to bank, bank day they asked for it twice and bank approved twice. Hotel reception phone rung out many times. I emailed lots. Heard back from someone who left a voicemail stating it should be back in my account by now & she doesn’t know what’s went wrong but she’s off home now. I’m not being funny but you’ve left a family with £0 how is that acceptable.
Great reception, friendly and great knowledge of area.
Happy friendly staff, always someone willing to help. Meals well priced and very tasty with variety of choices. 5 stars are just not enough to give. Will definitely stay here when visiting again.
Generally a pleasant stay, although the place wasn't busy when we stayed there. The staff can't do enough for you, although the breakfast staff seemed inexperienced. Zero sound or light insulation, and a broken radio alarm clock that can't be turned off and which buzzed through the night gave the impression of a place lacking ongoing quality control.
Stopped here on business in a superior room. For £75.60 room only there was absolutely nothing superior about it, the decor is like being stuck in the 70's. The bed is the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept, you can feel the springs in your back, the room also overlooked the main road (superior? ) There was a smell of disinfectant in the bathroom that lingered throughout the whole room. I had an evening meal which was ok but a little off putting as everything on the table was filthy. The salt, pepper and vinegar pots, the cutlery, wine glasses and the glass drink I was served. I stop in hotels across the UK 4 nights a week but for this place to charge what they do is not value for money at all. I would have mentioned this at check out but was not once asked how my stay was. The 1 star is for the friendly bar/ restaurant staff. I certainly won't be stopping here again!
Great hotel. Clean room comfy bed and friendly staff everything you need travelling between the 3 peaks.

This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
The hotel itself looked amazing So modern but up to date.
So to start with waited approx 5 minutes to check in as no one on reception. I assume they were smoking or something Eventually got key to room. Walked into room and thought wow. But on closer inspection not good. The bed had 3 hairs on it even though it looked clean Plus when you sat on it it creaked. Went into bathroom. There was a hair in shower and a used b…ottle of body wash in it. There was a poo stain in toilet and the towels smelt and felt damp.
When I unpacked my case there was crumbs in drawer. Housekeepers don’t care. The following night I went back and the towels were wet and the same hair was still in shower I put towels on floor to be changed
As for rest of hotel the service was ok but the food was not that good. Breakfast was ok but needed to be warm at least.
After breakfast went back to room and could hear what I assume to be housekeepers laughing outside. They were disgusting I’ve not heard talk or language like it.
For a hotel this place is a joke for the price. They need to sort staff out. Yes laugh and have a joke (swear if you need to. But remember there could be children stayin) I will never stay again and will inform colleagues and my boss that this place is a no no.
This hotel is a shambles, firstly the rooms are vile, if you like wood chip wallpaper then you might enjoy staying here, when we went into the room we noticed a crack on the bathroom door, never thought much of it as the place was a dive, bathroom tiles painter a yellow colour to try hide how dated they are, hand sanitiser that you would get in a public toilet attached to the wall next to shower… you get my drift, we thought right, we are here for 1 night, came in around 11, we and I hold me hands up had a small argument over fish and chips. When we went to check out the next morning we were told someone had complained about the noise… we admitted we had a heated argument and tried our best not to show our embarrassment in front of the guests behind us, we have now had a £100 taken from our bank, manager called my husband and basically gave him a tirade of abuse! We are now getting the blame for the crack on the bathroom door!
Nice hotel, comfortable, clean and in a good location. A little dated in terms of decor and a bit of a rabbit warren in terms of layout. Full English breakfast was good. Beer at the bar a bit pricey but decent. Friendly, helpful staff.
Clean and classy. The food options at breakfast are solid and the dinner menu is quite good. Reception service is great, but restaurant service needs some work. The sign outside indicated the restaurant was new, so I suspect some training of the wait staff would go a long way. The food at dinner was quite good, but service was slooow.
We upgraded to a superior room which was ok as it was at the back of the hotel as there is a main road out front. The bathroom has just been fitted but the shower was broken and the temperature was so hot you couldn't stand under it. When I complained the gave us a shower to use in another room on the floor below and right over the opposite corner of the hotel, but as we were going to a show and we were running out of time this was the quickest option. Decent door closers would be better to avoid the late night door slamming. I know that its not their fault that the fire alarms went off at 6.30 Sunday morning and they dealt with the guests professionally getting them all out to the car park but for us that was the icing on the cake and checked out cancelling breakfast. They didn't even offer a discount for having to hike to another room to shower. On the plus side the hotel seemed clean enough but we won't be stopping here again.
Good value for money. It's a converted terrace so enjoyed the twists and ups and downs! The Roman connection was unexpected. Friendly staff.
Stayed here on the way up to Oban — enjoyed the stay, rooms perhaps a bit dated and the bed on the small side. Highly rated the hotel, however they accommodated us last minute and customer service was excellent.
Nice hotel, better than 3 star. Great staff and facilities, good location. Rooms a touch dated.
Clean modern hotel staff friendly and great service. Bedroom on main road a little noisy. Enjoyable evening meal and cooked breakfast. Would certainly recommend to others.
Stayed here with my partner tuesday & wednesday night. Location of the hotel is in a ideal place 15 min walk to centre. Superb staff. Excellent price for the double room we had. Very clean. Lounge area is great to relax with a beer or 2. Will deffo be back.
Nice since refurbishment but the kitchen was too busy to be able to make us some chips and the car park is hard work.
Very nice 2 night bed and breakfast stay, paid extra for 3 course dinner for two on first night, very good meal (choice) and quite reasonable. Very nice bar area, again reasonable prices. Good choice at breakfast, full English was lovely. Plenty of parking space at rear of hotel. En suite bedroom comfortable enough if a bit on the small side. Would stay here again.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel! Although some of the fittings and carpets are slightly dated this hotel exceeded my expectations. We were treated incredibly well by the really friendly staff and the food was the best suprise! Absolutely delicious, fresh, and wholesome.
Room floor was soaking wet with water coming thru the wall. In all fairness we did get a refund however a 3 star hotel should be better organised than letting rooms out like that.
Great hotel well priced and a good location with good free parking. Breakfast was excellent.
Nice place. Pleasant staff. Room prices not bad eirher.
Location was fine, good parking in car park. Room was fine, heating worked well. Found it to be clean throughout. Shower was awkward to work out, no soap/shampoo in the dispenser, and very little/none in the sink dispenser. Beds were bad, one merely uncomfortable, the other very uncomfortable. No extra pillows in room. Cooked breakfast was lackluster. Wont stay again but we managed for one night.
Friendly well run hotel. The bar has a Cask ale on tap which was very good. Large free car park at the rear.
Not bad but smelled of smoking in the bedroom corridor, room tiny although advertised as the largest rooms locally. Breakfast cold and I sent it back. Staff very good, parking good.
Had our Xmas dinner here yesterday. From beginning to end we were treated lovely. The waiting on staff were brilliant so attentive. The meal was delicious couldn’t fault it the whole party loved it. We weren’t rushed. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by us all. Massive thanks to all the staff & chefs! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First day here the room I was given was dirty so they moved me into a new roomlooked nice later that day I told them the bath had no hot water running and again they moved me the next day I had breakfast good start then by 2 pm most of the staff walked out leaving only the female reception there and the chef alone then we was told that there is no longer an evening meal as the chef has gone so most the guest staying had to make there own way out of the hotel and try find a place to eat tomorrow is Christmas day and as well we are told sorry no food as there staff has all abandoned the hotel so again we will not have food as all the places around there are already booked up and the local shops will be all closed so again nothing to eat for Christmas day so again we have nothing to eat I asked for the name of the owner of the hotel so I can make a complaint but the girl there only gave me a name no phone number or email address this hotel is not worth going to even the wedding reception that took place around 1 pm ended early as they had no staff looking after them I can see a lot of disappointed guests I will never go again.
Room had another persons hair on the bed linen & shower tiles, brown smears on bathroom tiles, carpet not hoovered & another guests toenails on the floor. Reported to reception & only with my pushing was I given another room. Dirty towels refolded and put back for guests to use, dirty cups left, reported continually to reception — no apologies & the only way I got clean towels was to take my dirty towels to reception. I was then told that reception could do more and that the manager who had been off would deal with it. No response from the manager and when I asked at reception, I was told she had left for the day. I then e-mailed my issues for the attention of the owner as private and received an email from the manager who had left work that evening saying she had read the e-mail and not passed it onto the owner and that she had to get all staff members stories before she could update me. She sent me two further e-mails that evening with an aggressive tone and no further information on my complaint.
Stayed in a suite which was large and comfortable. The room decor is quite 70s, which may be to the tastes of older visitors. In a great location for shops, and a short walk from the city centre. Price was fair.
Good hotel with in-house bar.
Clean room and bathroom.
The rooms are quite old and feel consumed. The water has a fairly intense chlorine flavor and the toilet flushing does not deserve the name. The duvet slipped out of its shell during the night as it didn't have a shutter in the end.
Otherwise, the reception was very friendly and the room large and quite clean. Our demand to receive a room without a foot part has been addressed.
The General Manager, Linda prefers that her guests, including a small child, freeze in a drafty room than move the bed away from the window. Room not made up or replenished. Rooms musty, smell of damp and stale cigarettes. Very low shower pressure and temperature unsteady. Good location but not much else about this hotel is. We will again spend this night sleeping in our coats in his freezing room. I will not recommend this hotel, nor will I ever stay here again.
Good hotel. Easy parking. Friendly. Rooms fine. Some areas need attention, but nothing major. I would use it again.
Cumbria Park, is out dated, short staffed, our room was a bit small but workable the bathroom was small out dated, and very small the toilet didn't work good, and our used any dirty wash cloths and towels were folded and put back on the sink and towel bar! Our sheets were not changed during our 3 day stay. I have to say I'm surprised when reading the raving reviews, not sure who really wrote these!
Stayed here for 3 nights on room only basis. Booked a superior room but were upgraded to executive room free. Nice room very clean and comfortable bed, although did get quite warm but there was a fan in room. Only thing there was a small skylight and we were wakened early with the light coming in. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would do again if in Carlisle. Would recommend.
Good location, room was satisfactory and well equipped except for a lack of plug sockets. Good bathroom with jet bath and basic amenities. Very good breakfast menu. Did not experience dinner as stopped serving early.
The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre and the rooms are clean and reasonably appointed (except for a lack of plug sockets! ). Dinner and breakfast services finish earlier than is convenient though.
We found this hotel through Trip Advisor, looking for a hotel close to Carlisle at a reasonable price. When we arrived Carla on reception was very welcoming and quickly got us checked in and off to our room. Our room was very nice, the bed was very comfortable and the room had everything we would expect from a 3 star hotel. We did not eat dinner here but did have breakfast and was good value for a full English. Would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.
Great staff. Rooms are pretty standard but the atmosphere and friendliness makes this a great place to stay. Food is good too. Breakfast is absolutely awesome.
The hotel is on a really busy road but from inside the building we were unable to hear the traffic at all. There was ample parking to the rear but to be fair we walked everywhere as it's in a pretty central position. The room was ace, beautiful, well cared for, dark wooden furniture and a whirlpool bath. We also had a lovely balcony. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful.
Stayed for a one night stay lovely hotel staff were very friendly. Room was nice and clean bed comfy but the noise from the traffic kept me awake as we had a room on the main road. It was nice there was a bar to have a drink so we wouldn't have to stay in the room. Breakfast was very nice and filled you for the day. Would stay again if ever in Carlisle and would recommend to people.
We stayed here last night and have done a few times before. Have never had any complaints. Staff very friendly and everything very clean. New decor in bar area is lovely though I'm also guessing there is some finishing touches still to be done. We didn't have evening meal in hotel but we thoroughly enjoyed cooked breakfast. Only niggle was no side plate on table and couldn't find any. All in all we would recommend hotel and we will definitely return.
The rooms were creepy, the TV was difficalt to operate, very angry check in lady, only one plug in the whole room and they failed to give me a wake up call almost making me miss my ride.
Cumbria Park Hotel was lovely! Had all the amenities we needed and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The price for the room was good, but the supper was a little expensive for the quality. Excellent bakery across the street!
Great value. Incredibly comfortable and spacious. Would stay again.
Christmas lunch. Party of 12. Wheelchair user told stair were only access. Missing one place setting concierge and waiting staff argued not so we had to involve duty manager twice to confirm. Starters incorrect staff member very rude to point of being asked to not return to table. Another staff member (apparently ANOTHER manager) almost as rude, forced food on us when manager said she would return to confirm food order. Members of party told they were having food they had not ordered. Almost left. Duty manager who tried-one of the few reasons for the necessary one star rate, provided a round of complementary drinks-almost all soft, which were room temp. Starters were okay rest of meal was awful food looked hacked at with a blunt object, some raw/part cooked, some overcooked, most tasteless… Only really touched starters and coffees. On complaint at end of meal the feedback form was illegible staff member had to complete. Operations manager who responded JESSEY BAL who has provided the first rating on here I note!?! Did not really accept the feedback when he responded and offered a 50% discount for a meal for two as a "goodwill" gesture for our party of 12! Wow will never go back.

Absolutely loved the place — Great rooms and even better food. Will be staying again.
Arrived at 14:30 the room was not ready, the reception staff apologised and we had a drink and waited. After an hour someone came and told us our room was ready, and again apologised. At this point we wern't bothered, these things happen. We went to our room left our things then went out for a meal. On returning to the hotel and pulling the sheets back it was obvious that the sheets were not clean, and had that been slept in look, (bearing in mind we were an hour late getting in the room was a little annoyed to say the least) by morning I decided not to say anything thought if must have been a oversight and went to breakfast leaving our dirty towels in the bath as the sign says to d, if you want clean ones (I suspect that these were not clean either on our arrival as there was a make-up mark on one of them) when we got back that afternoon I thought the towels looked used and realised they were damp, on holding it up it was the same towel that had been hung up (the sign says put towels in the bath and they will be changed), and no toilet paper had been left either, we went down to reception and the receptionist was very friendly, apologised and said she would put clean towels in our room straight away. It was a shame, I usually stay in premier inn or travel lodge as I visit Carlisle a lot. I thought it would be nice to support local business.

We had our wedding here on 16th July. Wendy was brilliant from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble. The venue itself was beautiful and we were blessed to see the sun shining on our special day. This meant we had use of the new courtyard area for our welcome drinks. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. I spent the night before the wedding in the hotel with my maid of honour. The room was spacious and had plenty of room for ourselves and flower girl to get ready. The staff were brilliant, even bringing up our takeaway when we got peckish while getting sorted! The rickerby suite which me and my new husband stayed in on the wedding night was beautiful! I made use of the amazing free standing bath, only thing that could of made that better was some bubble bath. Other than that I couldn’t recommend the place more, not only as a wedding venue but as a hotel in general.
