Been coming to the black swan for years. It has gone down hill over the last year or so. We haven't had food there for a while apart from during lockdown but I put the quality down to short staff and short supplies. We had lunch today and the food was so overpriced for what it was. We had lamb which I know is pricey but you'd expext it to be tasty. £4 for a side of chips that was raw. I kept getting told we couldn't order food for the tables on the grass, only the patio yet there was only about 5 or 6 tables that either people were sat on or reserved. There was a table of about 8 people that were just drinking, in my opinion should have been asked to move to make room for people wanting to eat outside. I know it's bank holiday and was a lovely day but the staff really looked like they didn't want to be there. Definitely not worth the drive out anymore which is a shame as it used to be a lovely place.

We had a lovely lunch for my mum's birthday. The food was great and the staff were excellent.

We came here today as a group of 11 for Sunday lunch and drinks and all I can say is it was 10/10, food was quick and delicious, the staff very friendly and tentative and the pub it self has a lovely feel. The price was very reasonable for the number of people and there’s a good choice of drinks couldn’t fault the place and highly recommend the place, will definitely be coming back, may of found out new favourite pub/restaurant.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, staff very pleasant and attentive I’m booking for Christmas Day on the strength of that dinner, my one little criticism the sweet was a little on the miserly side.

Why have so many tables when you cant serve them all over 20 minutes waiting for only 3 drinks Could be a great pub of service was faster!

We had a meal in the marquis! The food was lovely and staff were lovely! The only thing was YES it was winter and we were told it would be cold and to bring a blanket or thick coat etc BUT they could have had bigger heaters OR even fitted heaters on the wall of the pub! Also we felt a bit out of it because there wasn't even Christmas music playing! A bit more thought into outside eating wouldn't go a miss! I'am sure it would benefit the Black Swan by bringing more people into eat outside! Just a thought Black Swan!

What a disgusting place, we turned up for just 2 pints of lager for my 30th birthday and got refused because it was too busy, the place was half full with no one outside. Crazy way to run a business.

Food was lovely and fresh, we had the steak and ale pie. The pub was spacious with a restaurant at the rear, a great outdoor seating area to be enjoyed on maybe not such a wet night with storm Francis. Staff were very pleasant and full of smiles. We will be returning again. Thank you.

Safe environment in the current circumstances. Great beer garden good for children too. Excellent food and drinks. We stayed overnight the room was very comfortable.

Staff going out of their way for my bthday They brought surprise cake singing to me happy birthday how good were they thank you. Your menu a little limited to my last visit but food still good thank you once again.

A warning, if your on a diet be prepared to break it because the food here is excellent and plentiful, the staff are very pleasant and attentive and the surroundings are very pleasant, all in all a very pleasant dining experience.

Great place great food great atmosphere.

Well we set out expectations high after reading the reviews. The food menu looked fab pub looked lovely and girl behind bar was very obliging. We chose the veggie stew, halloumi kebab and chicken kebab. We waited and waited almost 45 mins (didn’t mind this as we where expecting nice fresh food)
Eventually the food came. The halloumi kebab was ok although the fries looked a little incipid. The dresses side salad was limp and tasteless. The chicken kebab was just dry chicken breast on a skewer, hasn’t been marinaded and again incipid chips and a limp side salad. Some of the meat was so dry it was given to my dog. At £14 for this meal
I’m sorry but I expected better after such a long wait. Both dishes where under seasoned. My vegetable stew was just awful, it was dry, most of the veg was uncooked and again a lack of seasoning. We are having a break away and was hoping this would be our place to eat as it’s a short walk, but we won’t be returning. Nobody came to us to ask if everything was ok, my daughter just wanted to go home after eating chips and a flatbread at £14 as the rest was inedible.

Fabulous pub and with really great food and great staff.
The chef missed off one of our mains. The manager let know what had happened and our food would be delayed. She gave us a free pudding for the inconvenience which was so nice of her.

Had a lovely meal. And the singer was great. Haven't been there for a few years… Well worth a visit.

Like the pub and great for kids to have a play, food was ok but nothing special, little bit overpriced for bland food.

What a Gem! Food outstanding. Very welcoming place all staff very helpful. Especially Charlotte c who was our SERVER Knows how to treat customers and clued up on anything I asked her. Will DEFINATELY be returning.

What has happened to what was one of the best pubs for food and service? The new menu is not only limited but way over priced! Don't get me wrong, I don't have any issue with paying for good food but £19 for a kebab and a bowl of frozen chips! Shame on the manager, obviously it's become a case of money over quality. I hope some of the reviews are taken on board before this once great venue becomes yet another cash cow. By contrast, the service was excellent.

Went last Sunday afternoon, the service was awful… Our starters arrived before our drinks after waiting 45mins. The manager then blamed the staff team instead of taking responsibility. The Food was awful, dry Yorkshire puddings re-heated roasted potatoes and frozen vegetables. Some food had to be sent back as salad and chips were missing, when the deserts we ordered they had the wrong sauce on, the menu stated chocolate but arrived with raspberry! They then managed to make a complete hash of the bill as we were a large table and wanted to split it (which we made clear at the start) Awful experience, complete waste of time and money. Such a shame as we loved eating here. Won't be back unless the chef, thetsraff team and the menu is changed again! ☹️☹️☹️

Visited 6 months ago and impressed so returned. Considering a Tuesday evening and it was quiet the service was poor. Introduced to server and shown to table but they never returned to take a drinks order as advised they would. Only taken with food order after 15 minutes. After an hour waiting (with no info on delay) food order chased. Although advised being plated up and take 2 minutes it was a further 15. (1.25h in total for two main meals, no starters) No apology for delay when brought out, no check back after a few minutes, no return at any point during meal to ask if wanted more drinks. On paying bill mentioned about the delay (not looking for discount or comp) just to highlight after past good experience, and again no apology offered. Such a shame given previous good visit. It will be a while before try again.

Went for a family breakfast today. Took over 10-15mins to get our drinks. I had asked for my bacon (crispy & no fat). Food arrived over 30mins of ordering it and my bacon had lots of fat on it. Sent it away & it came back burnt. I asked to speak to the manager as we werent happy from start to finish. The manager turned up as if he had worn his clothes from the night before & just said 'i'll take it back to the kitchen' and asked if I wanted another bacon sandwich. To which I answered no. No sincere apology, or offered any free drinks or anything else. Poor managent, poor food & would not return again.

Lovely pub. Beautiful area for children to play with play equipment, a zip wire and large grassy area. Nice food but choice for lunch wasn't brilliant especially if you only want a sandwich or light bite. Couldn't fault the service on this occasion.

After a very disappointing visit a couple of months ago, my Dad, mum and I went last night for dinner — it was my dad's birthday. We had a much better experience. The staff were polite and helpful (although a little under-trained on the menu details). I was a little disappointed that the menu was pretty much the same as my last visit but at least everything was available and we didn't need to wait 45 mins for our food to arrive. It arrived after about 15 mins from ordering which was very acceptable to us. All-in-all, an improvement…

Great place for anyone to drop in or stay for dinner. Kids live it too. Football goals and a play ground. What more do you need?

Food is always spot on when I come here with work. Staff are friendly, atmosphere is calm. You can go for a pint in the other side, or come for some food. Winner…

A qaint country pub, there late afternoon early evening, catching commuters on way home. Decorated nicely with a large eating area that can accommodate around 100 people comfortably… Good atmosphere with good clientele…

Best pub for miles. Has excellent food in both restaurant or pub. Caters for all. Games area to one end. Quality decor. Lovely outdoor beer garden with duck pond, kids play area (not on top of seating area) and great BBQs in summer.

Lovely pub in a lovely village where I grew up. Unfortunately the new menu wasn't as good as it has been in recent years. Maybe it was an off day. Still a great place to call for a drink, especially if you have the kids with you.

Our stay was fabulous. We wished we'd booked for more days. We dinner and breakfast. Very good value. I had battered cod. It melted in my mouth. The quality do the food was excellent.

Wi-Fi Password: password (No caps or spaces) Stayed here and the place was very nice. Apart from it being near a public road, there's nothing much else bad. It has nice rooms which are big and the bath rooms are clean. The breakfast is also really nice and the bar is too.

Stayed here twice now and still as good. Rooms are lovely. Food is delicious. The best are the ducks in the garden area.

It a lovely country b&b the food is excellent the staff is very helpful easy to talk to the landlord is nice the atmosphere is really nice the locals are nice too there a pond on the side of the pub with ducks and swans there is also outdoor sitting area with a lovely view of the countryside.

We love The Swan & visit often as a family, a bit less since they stopped showing the football but even so it's our pub of choice in the area. We called in on Saturday to see what had changed after their refit. During the week it was closed we were interested to see that a 'Tap Room' had been added & hoped that this might mean some more interesting beer choices being added to the bar. Sadly the 'Tap Room' is where a pool table & fruit machine have been added, even more sadly they've taken the place of one of the nicer spots in the 'Old' Swan where you could sit in front of the fire on a chilly afternoon, as we did frequently before Christmas. As for the beer choices they have got progressively worse over the last year or so. There used to be a real joy in walking in & spotting a cracking real ale or two being on, this has almost disappeared completely as Robinsons ales have taken over and become the regular beers. There is the occasional bright spot like the Titanic beers that were on in December but in the main the ale choices now are bland and boring. This part of the country has so many brilliant breweries to choose from so it's disappointing to see such an unimaginative selection on offer. It was also a shame that even after a new lick of paint the same old problem of not enough bar staff remains. There always seems to be plenty of staff milling about the place but there only ever seems to be two people actually serving customers.

Had Christmas Dinner there and was not impressed with the food. Service was good though.

Food was OK but no atmosphere in the restaurant area, only four groups in. However the bar area was busy and the beer was good.

Happy to say that we all had a great time celebrating our Christmas meal,, the food, the abeyance were spot on, well done to Lindsay for the organisation.

Absolutely perfect. Great outdoor area, food was amazing, great wine selection. Rooms were to a high standard, have already booked to go again. Could not recommended enough. Staff were great as well.

The place itself is lovely and the drinks are great however the food lets it down completely we ordered a child's meal which was a sandwich meal and a dessert of strawberry and chocolate ice cream the sandwich was to be shared between two children as they don't eat a full meal to themselves we asked for two plates so we could split the food between them didn't get given the second plate and when the sandwich did arrive it was a slim plate with half a sandwich and a pile of salad on it which meant that they both ended up with a quarter of sandwich each, (the menu should of stated what the meal would be so we could have ordered two) then me and my sister order there two course meal for 14.95 we both ordered there curry covered chicken skewers which we were completely disappointed in it was three pieces of chicken in a large bowl not even on skewers, then the meal was not worth the price itself. Completely disappointed with the food in general and not happy paying 42.80 for the food we received.

Only gave one because can't give less! Curried chicken skewers were so over cooked, dry & woolly "0" points, you can't really mess up a jar of olives, the bread with them was nice. Waitress swept the plates away as we were still eating the starters… My fish was slightly overcooked but that is not the problem, My entire years quota of salt had been put all over the fish and chips! I ate six chips after blowing, tapping and flicking the salt off! I don't eat a lot of salt, I had no option here! Left the rest of the chips and struggled through the fish which was equally drenched in salt! When asked if everything was OK, I said apart from choking from the amount of salt on the chips, no! It was horrible! she picked the plate up and disappeared. We asked for the bill, paid and left! Did I leave a tip? NO! Will I go back? NO! Will I recommend this place? Not even to someone I dislike, NO.

Very nice place with lively atmosphere. Went to have a meal there with friends who were staying there a few days. Great food & friends loved their room.

Beautiful room, check in staff lovely. Breakfast was disappointing. No vegetarian sausages or bacon despite advertising. Had to ask for spoons, juice, glasses. Breakfast staff appeared to be put out by the requests for things that had run out or not been placed. Felt like we were ignored and annoying them. Beautiful room with an amazing bed decor and bathroom. Pub and grounds lovely and a nice distance from everything to be easily accessed but not a busy environment. Would go again but would take my own sausages.

Great food and drinks. Seen to straight away, no waiting around for tables or food orders. It's great that you have Hop House 13 on draft too.

Great place to stay and eat. The rooms are all modern, clean and well equipped (note, no aircon though). Staff are great — always pleasant and cheerful — and there are plenty of them so no waiting to be served. Food is a good mix of pub classics and some great modern interpretations. Sometimes there are maybe one or two flavours too many in some dishes but really not much to complain about. Good guest beers which change regularly. Possibly the only negative if you are staying over is that in the summer especially it's a lively, busy pub. Can be a problem if you want an early night — depends how light a sleeper you are.

Really nice place to spend a couple of nights, rooms were nice and clean and bed was very comfy. If you don't feel like going out they have a nice pub with enter in an evening plus a lovely restaurant. Would stay here again.

Used to love this place in the summer, able to sit outside with my small dog and dine, but am not allowed inside so impossible to place an order for food or go to the toilet when on my own. I heard that they were allowing dogs into the bar area, so emailed to ask, they have not bothered to reply. We will continue going to Swan with 2 nicks at Dunham, they make us very welcome and food is better.

Menu and service were OK. Nothing stand out. But I would try it again if I were back over that way.

Food was slow to arrive and when it did the onion rings and chips were dripping in oil and completely inedible. The restaurant was cold. The food on offer is no better than pub grub but at overinflated prices. If you are paying these prices you expect the food to be perfect. Waiting on staff were good though. To be honest the worst meal I've ever had.

When it first opened it was fabulous from staff to food excellent value for money. Now portion's smaller prices more expensive staff disorganised. From 4 star for me a local to only 2 star. I and my family want to feel satisfied after spending a lot of money.

Beautiful place to dinner or just to take a drink in the garden. The cajun salad is really nice. The downside is that you can't eat in the garden. Friendly staff.

Sun shining, fancy a beer? Superb family setting with duck pond, climbing frames and football pitch for the kids and a good choice of real ales on tap for the dad's. Good food and nightly entertainment (poker, quiz, karaoke etc. ).

It's the best place nearby if you want to eat something. I find it a bit expensive for the area but the quality of the food is really nice. The hamburger is really nice and for a quid more you can double it. The downside is that they are not let you anymore to eat something outside the restaurant, that's quite awful if you want to stay outside.

Firstly we decided to "go back" to the place where we had our first date 3yrs ago to have a meal and celebrate our time together. We went in and booked a table in a quiet corner a few days before the day. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the refurbishments which were impressive. However when we went to be shown to our table, we were met with blank faces and mutterings of "we cant find your booking". Oh joy. After some panicking looks and countless "I'm really sorry about this's" we were told they'd had a shuffle around and we were shown to our table. It was what we had asked for. A table in a quiet corner. Phew! Without sounding bitchy, we eventually got what we ordered and enjoyed the main course immensely. Unfortunately the sweet (cheesecake) was very tiny and not great, the cheese board came without butter but was resolved. Conclusion. We had a lovely time but the food was very expensive and we called at the chippy on the way home.

Fantastic food fantastic atmosphere fantastic range of Real Ales and great value for money. The newly built hotel rooms are modern spacious and very comfortable and again great value for money. Wether your out for drink and a meal or away on buisness or a short break The black swan caters for every occasion. Thank you to Stuart and Suzie and there team for always making our visits very enjoyable.

Absolutely wonderful food and service, we stopped at a near by campsite and used this pub one evening, the staff were very smart and polite and extremely helpful, providing a fantastic service that any business owner should be proud of! The cask marque was displayed at the door (always a good sign) and I have to agree that the quality and temperature of the beer was spot on! The menu choice was small but adequate having something for everyone and ensuring that the quality is absolutly phenomenal. (the chilli prawns with lemon and lime were the tastiest ive ever had! ) I often eat in Michelin star hotel restaurants and the quality of the food at the black swan was better. Well done everyone keep it up! Jason k, stoke.
