Just had a family get together here today and it was fabulous. Staff and food were great.

This was our second visit to this hotel. Although the hotel was virtually empty we were given a room above the bins so had the dustman crashing around at 7 in the morning plus the phone just kept ringing from 7 am as well and we could hear it in our room. Generally we like the hotel and the fact it is a bit old fashioned is to our taste. A couple of tweaks would improve things, a hook on the bathroom door to hang clothes on and a full length mirror somewhere in the room. Air let out the top of radiator in our room, but for me the most important would be a mattress topper to soften the feel of the very very hard/firm mattress. Very clean, bathroom a good size.

Lovely old hotel, friendly staff, comfortable, clean room and a great breakfast. Only gripe, TV had no reception and it wasn't that cheap.

Very very disappointed with this place. Was looking forward to staying here as reputation is very good but it fell well short… Night bar staff was a great guy … very funny and excellent host … breakfast staff was more interested in what they were doing later than about the service… breakfast was very average… won't be staying again in a hurry … sorry!

Christmas meal with girls from work. There were 12 of us all together and we had ordered our meals before going. I had soup which was vegetable and was very flavoursome. Followed by roast turkey dinner. When it can the portions were very generous and the meal looked lovely. Veg came in a separate dish (parsnip, sprouts and carrots) as I only like carrots I asked could I just have carrots and that's what I got. The whole meal was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are always friendly. It's nicely decorated for Christmas and the Old Hall is good value for money.

Facilities and housekeeping service is very poor. Had to wait several days before my towels been changed rather than hanging the dirty ones back on from the floor!. Not enough power outlets in the room resulting in choosing between a bedside lamp or your phone charger. The TV in the room is very small and you might need a binoculars to see anything on it in the distance. Internet is a serious joke and I'm not sure why would they even advertise that they have one, its slow and keeps cutting out! Food is expensive for what it is. First and last visit here for me…

Nice surrounding, but the food was a bit pricey.

We went for afternoon tea. It was lovely and served promptly. Would have liked to be offered more milk for the coffee but it wasn't a disaster. Nice treat for our date day.

This is one of the Hotel's that you don't see very often. We as the family just love going there. It's a place you can relax and enjoy the good food, and the staff are very professional in what they do. In the winter when it's cold and wet, it's always nice to sit in front of the coal fire whilst having your meal and a glass of wine. Well recommended.

Best prawn sandwiches, I go on a Thursday get lunch and go down the street for frodams market day on Thursday.

We had a delicious meal in the restaurant. The staff are always lovely and friendly. The on site parking is convenient too.

Situated on the main road through Fridsham. The old hall has character and charm. Seemingly very popular with the cream tea crowd. I stayed overnight in one of their suite. The room was clean and the staff very friendly. Breakfast was also very good. Would stay again.

Easy to find, unsure about parking as I arrived via train, rooms where warm and beds well I want to take mine home with me had great nights sleep wide selection a restaurants locally. Breakfast was great would give 5 star but never believe in perfect.

Nice cosy place place, with friendly staff. Good location which isn't too far away from Runcorn, and a variety of different places to eat near by (didn't try the hotel meals). Decent variety of food for breakfast also hot/cold. Rooms are a good size, classy but a bit bare, small TV, no ironing board or no T + C facilities in room.

I stayed there on the 04/09/2012 in room 6. Left room to get a meal after a day at work, upon return the room key would not work. Staff tried to open the door and they were very helpful. They could not open the door, so I was told I had to wait for the owner/manager to arrive. I was told this could take about an hour, and had to sit and wait for this length of time. When he did arrive a staff member told me this door often sticks, but that the manager/owner knew how to open it. I stood and watched but he was also unable to open it, then proceeded to get a ladder to try and gain access through the front window, I explained it was painted shut, I knew this after checking the fire escape route for this room, and finding one of two escape windows not useable. The owner/manager insisted abruptly that it would open, only to find it would not. He then ran at the door forcing it open with his shoulder. Then accused me of tampering with the lock before leaving earlier. Had it not been so late and taken so long to get into the room I would have told him to refund me as I was leaving. He walked away without an apology. Next morning at breakfast he was on duty and completely ignored me. The staff in the hotel were very helpful and apologetic, but unfortunatley he let the hotel down with his rudeness. I will not use this hotel again.

Was very tired — having travelled extensively that week with work — and dropped by recently on my way back home to Chester with my other half. Had no real expectations other than to be fed. The service here was simply outstanding — as close to Grosvenor Chester as you could get. The food was very good. A very welcome surprise and extremely, extremely impressed. We'll be back at some point.

Booked a superior room but it was a bad room — cold and dark, damp and depressing small 4 ' bed used as a double, no. Fire, notes, or other customer information in the room. Difficult, away from the room with a Labyrynth of corridors and find. Traffic noise heard all night — Windows old style type perforated side in designs and sound settings allows. Expensive restaurant and the Cook knows the difference between a medium rare and well done steak. Also the waitress knew whether a wine was Rosé or red! Ignorant managers and mostly unfriendly waitresses, the extremely nervous and rushed seemed. The cleaning staff were the friendliest people in the hotel which we come tomorrow after our stay. Here we went to the birthday of my husband and our common wedding day — very, very disappointed with the whole experience.
