Really friendly place we have been coming to for years! I always get very nervous with our two dogs but they’re always so welcoming. Also loved the REAL fire they had going. Felt very cosy and had a happy atmosphere! Most of us had Roast and the food was served in great time! Attentive staff too!

Lovely food and served fairly quickly considering how busy they were. Starters mains and 4 drinks for two people for £40. Would definitely go back.

Bit disappointed last night. The last night before lockdown, that the menu was still the limited one there has been for a few months now … pity there wasn’t a Christmas menu to choose from & that the fire wasn’t lit.

Always such a friendly welcome. Makes you feel like a local no matter how new you are!

Nice place to stop during a walk along the river. Covered outdoor seating and extra hidden garden at the back for busy days. Expensive drinks. Haven't eaten there.

Location location location yep it's a great location and a very quaint old beautiful building in a Tiny Village full of quaint old beautiful buildings I managed to get a parking space but after an hour or so the car park was full people were parking all up the road. It's very tight parking sometimes needing to reverse out car park and up the road to get out. For the price I expected more of the food believing it to be gourmet I ordered the chicken two ways which is the closest I could get to Sunday dinner the red cabbage tasted very strongly of cloves and I ended up with a mouthful of cloves which was not nice as they've all been left in there one, piece of chicken was mainly bones and fat the other piece was lovely but no crispy skins. The parsnips were lovely cooked in honey but the Yorkshire pudding was bit crisp and needed lot more gravy. It was nice but average. Need to book as gets packed.

Very relaxing environment. Good food overall. Wasn’t super impressed by the Sunday roast though. Meat was tough and chewy. Decent value, but not amazing.

One of our local pubs and certainly the favourite for my wife. She loves the HSB (even though it is now a fullers brew as oppose dto the original Gales. Recently refurbished and quite nicely without detracting from its historic charm. Also glad to see our favourite guy back behind the bar… You k ow who you are and will always go get my 2 bottles of 1845 from the cellar. Thank you. So, leaving the history, the charm and avoiding the numerous Chelsea tractors in the car park at weekends… This is a brilliant pub and recommended.

Nice pub with a good range of ales and great food. The pub got busy while we were there and serviced slowed down a little while we were there but overall it’s lovely and worth a visit.

This is rare find these days, a proper authentic pub. The food is great, I've eaten here a couple of times and stayed once. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Top pub, located in centre of picturesque village of Sonning. Venison casserole with herby dumplings was worthy of a Michelin star. The pint of Fullers Front Row was refreshing and full of flavour. Atmospheric beams and fire. Staff welcoming, they made big fuss of our dog, giving him biscuits and attention. Highly recommended.

Beautiful 600 year old pub in picturesque setting. Very friendly helpful staff. Had dinner and stayed here on our anniversary. We were upgraded to the nicest room. Dinner was very nice. I had the chicken fajitas and my hudband had the pork belly. Chocolate brownie dessert was amazing. Good selection of wines and prices are reasonable.

Lovely pub, good service, terrible food: overly salted risotto, wedges way too spicy and the chicken, leek and ham pie was actually steak but was nice. Expensive for mostly very poor food. Wouldn't recommend or go back to.

This was a first visit for me… and on a snowy Sunday afternoon! The pub has an. Overwhelming warmth on arrival. And the food was first class. I would certainly recommend this place to all of my friends.

Me and 9 friends went for a Sunday dinner there. The atmosphere was great, all our plates were empty at the end and the staff were welcoming. Whole heartedly recommend visiting, been there 3 times now and it's never disappointed.

Really nice British food, and other pub favourites. The beer isn't bad either. But the big attraction has to be the actual building. It's an amazing old pub. Worth a visit just to see it.

Great food, lovely area for walks after a good hardy meal, nut toast to dye for and 100% get the brownie. Price range of ££-£££ would recommend.

I'm staying locally and this place has a pretty decent rating so I thought I'd call in for tea and I'm glad that I did! It's a lovely little pub, very traditional and cosy. There's a guy inside with a mega fluffy dog that loves a stroke, oh yeah, and the food was lovely! So many places manage to do a rubbish job of making a pie, but this was great! Stuffed full of chicken, ham and leeks, plenty mash, gravy and a huge pile of greens! If I lived nearby, I'd be here every weekend. Highly recommend this to any fellow travelers! :)

A proper English pub. Real ales, low ceilings, friendly staff, nice ploughmans for 2. Parking limited on site but more available nearby.

Although its tucked away and difficult to find, the satnav took me right to it. Its a really nice old-style pub with great food and ales. Food can be pricey but the quality and portions are very fair. Would recommend!

Have just spent 4 nights I must say most of the staff very friendly and helpful the room we had was the Oxford I will say cosy! I would have liked a little more room and had to keep clothing in case as no cupboard space, plumbing also needs looking at. But we had a great time and overall a great little inn and pleased we stayed.

A local took me here on a quiet Sunday evening for a quiet pint. The staff were relaxed and friendly, not only to regulars, and the ales on tap were good. But it's the building itself that most impresses: a beautiful cosy pub with fires and candles, and quiet corners.

Superb menu and service. Never disappointing.

I had the stake and ale pie with cabbage and roast potatoes, it was the best meal I have every had The meat was so tender and everything was hot would eat there all the time if I had the money and would recomend it to everyone.

Fantastic welcome. Loads of character. Great beer and good food. Can't wait to come back in the summer and soak up the atmosphere outside.

Frank Newcastle (Author) : I visited the Bull Inn in the beautiful village of Sonning. The pub too is very beautiful. Wooden floors, beams, several fireplaces. I ordered rabbit pie and Chiswick ale – an excellent meal. The waitress was nice and friendly. Good atmosphere. A well-run and popular pub. I’ll be back.

Lovely little pub restaurant in a beautiful, picturesque area near Reading. The food is a really high standard — proper gastropub fare — and the proper traditional pub ambiance is lovely. Wood burning fire smells gorgeous too :).
