Stayed here on our way from Tucson to Dallas in June 2018. Adequate room for my wife & me given the price — best deal in Van Horn. The manager was friendly and helpful, room was clean and had the necessities. No frills or extras, just the basics but again, fine given the price. I would stay here again. Note: the railroad tracks are directly behind the motel so you will hear the whistle blow at times, but we got used to it.

Cool owner/operator not updated inside but worth it. Nice little place great location in between authentic texacan food places.

Clean, serene & quaint. Very reasonable rates. No coffee in the lobby, but so what? Bring your own! I loved this motel.

Been staying here a couple times a year for last 13 years. Place has always been very clean. Beds are comfortable and you get microwave and fridge with rooms. We stayed at this place twice on our trip out to Texas, once going there and once coming back. We received the same room which we liked very much. The beds were super comfy, clean rooms including bathroom, nice working shower, and a great location. The owner was very nice both times and he chuckled when he saw us return for a second time to stay at his hotel. We would definitely stay here again for any road trip we may go on in the future and in the area. Had a great stay both times. And the price was perfect, even for one night. If we needed more nights, I’d still stay here.

Very pleasant old school roadside motel with actual keys not keycard. The beds were hard and not very comfortable. Very clean with no bugs and the price was extremely reasonable. Mom and pop shop owned since 1984 so definitely willing to stay there again to support an american owned local business.

The gentleman was nice and the price was very cheap. Had the room been in better shape and the fridge cleaned out of frozen ground turkey that expired a year ago and Orange and cranberry juice, I would have rated higher.

The train travels almost through the room.

Pleasent staff, room was clean, no signs of any kinds of bugs. It is a budget-oriented motel, so you may see things like cords hanging about, uneven paint lines, etc. This is expected for the price point. The bed in my room was rather hard. My back was hurting and I didn't get a very good night's sleep. I could hear the trains going by, but they were not very disruptive. Definitely not loud enough to wake me up. Not a bad little place, definitely a great price point for the room.

The room I was in didn't have a deadbolt or safety latch. I wasn't concerned about that but others might be. The sheets and pillowcases had hairs on them. I asked the front desk man for fresh sheets and he happily provided me with some. Besides the sheets, the place is modest but very clean and comfortable. Great price. Friendly service. I'd stay here again. 5 stars if it weren't for there issues described above.

Best deal in Van Horn. Family run, affordable, clean and friendly. Free internet, mini-fridge, good cable. My room was in good condition. Plenty of hot water in the morning. Sometime in the night, a train rumbled by. It wasn’t disturbing, it was peaceful and made for good dreams.

This hotel is cheaper than motel 6 and is a lot nicer for the money. The room was clean and well kept, the bed was new and comfortable, and the man at the front desk was nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Clean place, decent room. Had ok tv. Ac worked well and bed was comfy. Seemed to care that I had a nice stay. Would recommend as inexpensive motel.

Price and safety were my priorities after driving in from San Diego as a single female. I hit the jackpot with desert in. The owner was super professional and nice making me feel safe. I had the best sleep on the bed. The room is humble but clean with basic needs met.

Rooms are clean. Owner is very nice. Just a Mom & Pop style motel, no breakfast or coffee. Located next to the railroad tracks in what looks to be a dying town, that has charm. We'd stop here again.

Super clean motel. Owner was courteous and even recommended a few places to eat. I would stay again. Nice oasis in the middle of the desert. Glad I picked this place.

Room was clean, checked in the hotel at 3 am and service was pleasant. I would stay again when we head back down.

It's cheap and a place to sleep, but don't expect great service or a quality stay. Adequate for crashing out when passing through.

Minimal appliances but cheap. Not very well maintained but customer service was good.

This is a 50's motel. Yes it's old, and shows its age, but the room was spotless, warm, and it had a good mattress. And it was half the price of all the other sold-out hotels. Would stay there again. It's Van Horn Texas, not a vacation destination. If you want a 3-star experience, this isn't it. If you want a comfortable, inexpensive night before you hit the road again in the morning, consider the Desert Inn. As for the other reviewer who claimed bed bugs — I have allergies and often wake up with swollen eyes in hotels which is a sure sign of sloppy cleaning and dust that is allowed to build up in the corners. I did not have these problems here. And we certainly didn't experience any bugs of any kind.

Whatever you do! Do not stay here. Don't be a cheap skate because you will pay with your own blood. This place sucks. It's 3:45 in the morning 7/31/2014 and I'm sleeping in my car. I woke up only to find myself covered in bed bug bites. I woke my buddy and sure enough, his bed was also full of bed bugs. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Do not stay here.
