I have been going to the Inn at Palmetto Bluff since it opened. The management changed to Montage and it has been down hill since. Two years ago I booked a 5 day stay for July 4th. The place was under total renovation-which was never mentioned to my travel agent. We left after 3 days. The GM — Marcus Jackson gave me a 3 day complimentary stay for the same type of cottage I had for the July 4th nightmare stay — a May River king cottage. Upon arrival this past Thursday I was told that my cottage was not yet ready. After waiting over an hour I went up to the front desk to ask what the delay was only to be told that my cottage had a gas leak and I would be "upgraded" to the new Inn. A May River cottage is the best they offer at this property. Clearly my complimentary May River cottage went to a paying client and the management felt that since I was there I would take whatever crumb they offered me. Of course I was told that no other May River cottage was available. I told the Director of Rooms we would rather leave than stay in a different room that was guaranteed to us. My travel agent was not able to get us a flight until Saturday morning. After constant screaming at the Director of Rooms he found us a lagoon view cottage. Still not what was guaranteed us. I was told that "maybe" they could move us to a May River cottage at some point during our stay! I was traveling with my 81 year old Mother and 2 service dogs. And who wants to spend their time changing rooms? We had a completely miserable 2 night stay counting the hours until we could get out of Palmetto Bluff. Given what had happened — again I cancelled all the plans we had made, dinner, spa, Grace cruise. I refused to spend any money at a property that had treated us badly not once but twice. The GM — Marcus Jackson — should have ensured that our stay this time was flawless. Instead he was full of excuses and lies. Everything that made this property special has been changed. You cannot even take a golf cart to your cottage anymore and the price went from $25. A day to $75. A day. Really! The Executive Vice President of Montage Hotels offered us another complimentary stay. Are you kidding me? The last 2 stays were horrible and I am going to have travel expenses only to be disappointed again? No way. The southern charm and hospitality is all gone under Montage management. I will never return to Palmetto Bluff nor stay in another Montage property. Go elsewhere — where your business will be valued. It definitely is not valued at Montage Palmetto Bluff…
